Entourage 2008 Mail Import Issues

Any suggestion on how I can transfer stored email folders on my POP email accounts on Mac Mail over to Entourage 2008?
I have years of emails stored in different folders.

Have a look at some threads having similar mail migration problems:-

  • Entourage 2008 not importing from Outlook 2011

The import wizard in Entourage 2008 is not functioning properly. I am trying to import all the emails, sub-folders like spam, outbox and a few that I have made manually from Outlook 2011 to Entourage 2008. But the Import hangs up after few seconds of processing and nothing is imported in entourage. Is there any other way of importing the emails from outlook 2011 to entourage 2008?

    Hi,
Please try the steps in the link below(if you haven't):

  • Mail Importing Issue

I've imported about 14 of 15 .mbox mailboxes from one machine to another (same verion of Mail) with not a single problem. However, I'm having a problem with one of them. It is saying "No valid Mail for OS X files were found". However, the .mbox folder does contain the .plist and Messages folder (which contains the emlx files).
Any ideas as to why this is not importing correctly when others did?
    Thanks!

Hate to waste space here here, but i fixed my own issue.

  • Switched from Entourage to Mail/iCal issue

I switched to Mail and iCal from Entourage some time ago but I noticed when I email an iCal invite, the icon in the body of the email is an Entourage icon and if I click on it, it opens Entourage.

    if you go in mail,
click mail at the top, preferences, and click default email reader, make sure its mail
you could also make sure add invitations to ical is set to always.

  • Outlook for Mac e-mail import issues

Ok -- I have tried everything and I can't seem to figure this out.  I exported my old e-mail from outlook for windows 2010 into a pst file and then imported that into outlook for mac 2011.  The folders come in but the e-mails themselves are not there.   I am fairly confident the messages are there somewhere in the back background as it took 15 minutes or so to import the whole file.  I tried only importing 1 small folder and it imported in a few seconds so I am pretty confident they are there I just can't see them.  Has anyone else had this problem and can offer any help?

There is a longish way to do this.
In Outlook, Select the folder you want to move (If there are folders within the folder, you have to select each individual subfolder, as the subfolders won't copy along with the main folder, only the messages in the folder will copy). Click and drag the selected folder (ex: inbox folder) to a new folder on your desktop. I couldn't figure out a way to select all the folders, so i dragged each folder and subfolder from Outlook into the folder on the desktop. Once you're done copying all the Outlook folders, open up Mac Mail. Go to File --> import mailboxes. Then select "Files in mbox format" and click continue. Then select desktop, and the folder you dragged all of your Outlook folders into. Hit "Choose." Mac Mail will import all of these folders, and when it's finished, will tell you that they are under the folder labeled "imports" in Mac Mail, and you just have to move all your subfolders back into their main folders.
Like I said, it takes a little while longer than I would like, but it worked for me and now I have all my old mail from Outlook in Mac Mail.
Hope that helps (and that I explained right)!

  • Importing mail information from Entourage 2008

I’m running OSX 10.7.3. I’ve been using Microsoft Entourage 2008 for my mail client but have recently encountered a problem - upon opening Entourage I get an error message that says, “Microsoft Sync Services has encountered a problem and needs to close…”  Regardless of what block I click on the error message will not go away and comes back within 10 seconds or so.  I want to start using Mail, but I want to import the mailboxes I have in Entourage.  In Mail, when I go to import from Entourage it does not work – it says it cannot find the mailboxes in Entourage.  Is there another way I can do this import?  I don’t know where the mailbox files for Entourage or Mail are located. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks.

Use Emailchemy, what you want is not easy to do without a real converter. It is not free.

  • Importing Entourage 2008 mailboxes into Mail.app loses message flags

I'm in the process of migrating my data from Entourage 2008 to Mail, iCal and Address Book. The problem is that when I use Mail.app's built-in import from Entourage feature, the messages lose their flag status (read, unread, replied, forwarded, etc) in Mail.app. Does anyone know of a way to preserve this information? Cheers

Well there are some suggested solutions on here if you search for them. Hoever, I eventually worked around it by just importing a section of my old email at a time. A bit tedious, but it worked.

  • Unable to import email from Entourage to Mail.app

    Hey all,
I have a very large entourage 2008 inbox (the rge file is about 900 MB). I've been trying to import it into Mail.app but it stops halfway.
I suspect Mail doesn't like a email or folder and stops importing. How can I identify the root cause?
    Thank you.

    Ok.
It looks like I figured it out with your help.
I unchecked the folder that was giving me trouble importing. This time Mail was able to import more but failed on another folder.
So I decided to repeat the import process but unchecked whatever was imported successfully and left the rest checked in. Everything else imported successfully.
Is there any way to tally the amount of total messages stored in Mail? I'd like to be able to compare against my Entourage just to be sure. The previous issues I had has left me unsure about the integrity of the migration.
    Thanks again.

  • Entourage 2008 - Importing from Outlook 2007 ???

Hi guys, just got a MacBook Pro this week and I had reserved a copy of Office 2008 which I got today.
It's great because that's what I was waiting for to put my PC on sale
BUT i was astonished to see that there's not the option to import pst files in Entourage ??
I was using Office 2007 for PC therefore Outlook 2007.
The only way we can export stuff is by creating .PST files, so you can backup all your contacts, your messages with attachements and your calendar (which are my 3 priorities).
Using the equivalent application from Microsoft but for the Mac, that is : Entourage 2008, there's not the option to import .pst ?? What the heck ??
So please guys if you know a way to export my stuff (messages, contacts and calendar) from Outlook 2007 PC to Entourage 2008 MAC, please let me know !!!
    THANK YOU !!

    Hey guys,
I don't want to be repeting by here's the way I worked this out :
    EMAILS
First I installed Thunderbird on my Win computer.
Then I imported from outlook. It took a while since my PST was like 3 Gb.
At first I was crashing it but then I let it work for a try and it imported everything perfectly, but not showing any progress bar during the process.
Second, I searched Thunderbird help for the way to export in MBOX, and it pointed out that I sould get a plug-in, which I did.
Third, having installed the plug-in, I had a tool menu for exporting. Only thing I had to do is select each folder one by one and export them using this plug-in, I only had to add .MBOX extention to every file.
Finally, when you get these files in OS X with entourage, you just drag and drop them in entourage and them import perfectly.
That did the job for me anyways.
    CONTACTS
Send yourself emails of contacts !
I sent myself email (with the WORK OFFLINE option so I wouldn't receive them in outlook) in the contacts from outlook.
As you can imagine, I totally got rid of Outlook, and of Windows actually, by now but as I remember it when you right click on a contact you have an item that's called something like "send full information of contact through email".
So to keep my categories I sent one email per categories.
Back in entourage, I had to save attachements, import them, put them in a category.
Then next email, etc. and so on.
    CALENDAR
I haven't found a way to do this but what I did was : In outlook you have a way to display your calendar events by a list, so I just made a couple of print screen of that list and I put the future events that I wanted to keep in Entourage.
    And the conclusion is :
Well I said byebye to Entourage because I don't need MS Exchange support and I hate Microsoft more and more everyday so I'm using Mail, Address Book and iCal now
But I could easily import from entourage into all of these.
The only microsoft apps I still are the must-have : word, excel and powerpoint 2008.

  • Can't import from Entourage into Mail

I'm trying to import my Entourage 2008 email into Apple Mail 6.0.  Everytime I try I get an error message, "Error - Unable to connect to Microsoft Entourage.  Try opening Microsoft Entourage first, then run the import".  I tried that and it didn't work either.  I exported my Entourage data as a .rge but then when I try to import it, there is a nested duplication of all the folders from Entourage. And I've got too many emails/folders to drag them.  Any ideas or suggestions?

This is too late for Norm, but incase anyone else is having this problem, it may be due to having Office 2011 installed (ignore if this is not your case).
I would find the same error on trying to import from Entourage, and after digging around a bit, tracked the problem to having Office 2011 installed. Once I completely removed Office 2011, the import worked fine.

  • Messages won't import from Entourage 2008 to Outlook 2011

My hard drive crashed on my MacBook Pro that was running Entourage 2008 for Mac. I have a back up of the Microsoft User Data file, and I want to upload it to Outlook 2011 for Mac. When I import the data, it pulls my calendar and complete folder structure into outlook perfectly. However, there are no messages/emails in any of the folders. I've tried it a couple times and same thing always happens. Transfers everything but the messages. The database is 19GBs, so I know the messages are on there.

To exporting Entourage data into Outlook 2011, select "Items to an Entourage archive" option and that gets export everything; mail, folders I've created, contacts, and calendar.

  • Import from Entourage 2008 to Calendar not working

Hi all, so after 11+ years of using Entourage I'm finally biting the bullet and trying to migrating to Calendar/Mail/etc ...
Anyway I'm struggling to get Calendar to play nicely. When I use "Import from Entourage..." Entourage 2008 opens as expected and Calendar shows the "Importing Entourage data..." progress bar for a few seconds but nothing appears to be imported. What am I doing wrong?
    Cheers for any help

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail - can't import Notes

Hello, I am migrating from MS Entourage 2008 to Apple's Mail. I have imported the mailboxes and my accounts and contacts without problem, but not my 500 Notes. I've exported them for Entourage in many ways but can't import them in Mail.
When I drag the notes to the desktop they are stored as [Title].ics and those files can't be imported into Mail.
Please I need some help here as I have around 500 notes to bring with me.
    Thanks

Well because Entourage use a single central database and Mail uses the standard UNIX separate folders method.
Also maybe Apple Discussion thread might help.

  • Entourage 2008 with IMAP mail account - cannot work offiline

    Hi,
i've recently configured an IMAP account (not mobile me) in entourage 2008.
I've configured the accounts to download full bodies from all folders. However if i start entourage offline then i cannot see my IMAP folders and can only access my inbox messages.
when i'm online, everytime i start entourage all my imap folders are empty and i need to open each folder to get the messages downloaded.
i've tried to download the emails in side each folder by right-clicking on each-folder and selecting download full email bodies.
i've tried to create a rule to retrieve emails from the server.
i've tried to edit the schedule to make sure each folder was selected in the advanced options and selected all messages. Strangely enough that setting (in the folder synchronisation window) disappears every time i restart entourage.
i've tried setting up a new identity.
i've tried setting up a new identity on a different imap server.
i've spent hours on google but haven't found any thing helpful except the things i tried as mentioned above.
none of this has been working. i believe i'm doing something wrong as other people seem to be able to work offline with entourage but can't find what.
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks,
    Brett
P.S. I also configured the same IMAP account in Mail.app and all works fine. Entoruage is the my preferred mail client.

Netscape prevents accessing a Netscape webmail account with any email client such as the Mail.app.
You can use the Netscape program only with a Netscape webmail account.

  • How can I access old Entourage emails to import them into Mac Mail after upgrading to OS Lion?il

How can I access old Entourage emails to import them into Mac Mail after upgrading to OS Lion? I don't really want to go back to Snow Leopard in order to access the old Microsoft Applications, but they simply aren't supported in Lion.

In Mail you can select Import Mailboxes... from the File menu. There is an import from Entourage feature.
