Entourage deletes gmail

I have successfully configured Entourage to check my gmail. I have set the gmail to "keep Gmail's copy in the inbox" when messages are accessed with POP. Also, "POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived"
Also, entourage is set to "Leave a copy of each message on the server (but to delete messages from server after they are deleted from this computer"
The problem is...I access my mail from an Entourage on my laptop and on my desktop MAC, both. Whichever one accesses the mail first, makes it so that the other can no longer download the gmail mail item.
In other words, the "Online Status," the yellow envelope, goes away after "Send & Receive" on the Entourage and it makes it seem that the item was deleted off the server.
BUT the item is not deleted off the server - if I log into web gmail the items are all still there. For some reason gmail will not let my Entourages download the mail more than once.
I do not have this problem with Cox mail - I can download the mail into both my laptop and my desktop. I do not have problems with duplicate downloads.

Gmail POP access doesn’t work as a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies:
1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
2. To make already downloaded Gmail messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which will cause everything (and I mean everything) still there to be downloaded again. Alternatively, if you only want to download the last 30 days of mail, you can configure Mail in “recent mode” as described in How should I use POP on mobile or multiple devices?.
3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by the corresponding Gmail’s setting alone.
4. Messages created and sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were incoming messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent -- as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
5. Messages created and sent using a POP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in 4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. They would, however, be downloaded if Gmail settings were changed as described in 2 above.
6. As a particular case of 5, messages sent to yourself will appear in your Inbox on the web, but cannot be downloaded by either the same or any other POP mail client.

  • How do I delete Gmail messages in iOS5

I have my Gmail account set up to push (as an Exchange account) to my iPhone 4S.  Unfortunatley no matter how I try to delete email messages they are always placed in the All Mail folder, and I never see them in the trash.  Has anyone had any luck deleteing Gmail messages from iOS5?

I just figured this one out.  Go into settings/mail, contacts, calendars.  Under the Accounts section choose Gmail.  Then there should be an "Archived Messages" slide switch...it's on by default, slide it to off and you should be able to delete either by swiping to the left when you are in the "Inbox" view.  If you are actually reading the message at the bottom there will now be a "trash can" icon to delete the mail. You should be good to go now.

Ignore him!  Syncing will not solve this.
if this just started, it may also resolve on its own.   A reboot may resolve it quicker.
When you delete, are you confirming the delete by taping "done" Or "delete"?

  • IPAD 2 deleting Gmail and putting or syncing for big pond email

    Hi all,
For some reason I can not delete GMAIL on my wife's IPAD and want to sync it with our home email account BIGPOND. Just wondering amongst you guru's out there if some could please help us.
    cheers Mick

    Are signed up for iCloud?

ICloud does more than store a backup once in a while.   It keeps your devices in sync.
If you changed a password on one device, it will not be changed on the other until you change it in settings.

  • How can I stop my iPad deleting gmails from their servers?

I have an iMac and Mail with which I have happily been downloading mail from some gmail accounts.  I have the setting "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" unchecekd so, as I want, downloaded messages remain available on the gmail servers.
However, now I have an iPad, I find that when that downloads an email from gmail, it deletes the server copy - which I do not want.
But I can't find any setting on the iPad where I can stop this happening!
The only work-round I can think of is to stop downloading gmails to my iPad, which rather defeats the purpose of having a mobile device!
How can I ensure that copies remain on gmails servers unles and until I deliberately delete them?
    Thanks.

Thanks, Diavonex, but that is already On and my iPad panel looks just like yours.  Is it possible that what I think is deletion is in fact merely the gmails moving somewhere else that I have yet to discover?
I have been thinking about this, and I may be able to add more information which might help with a diagnosis.
The accounts affected are IMAP accounts.  Now I confess here that I have no real idea what IMAP/POP accounts are, but it may be relevant.
Also, on the iMac most if not all gmail emails get passed directly into user defined folders using Mail's Rules, so virtually none remain in my inbox.  Nor, for that matter, do I ever delete gmail emails off the iMac unless they are clearly junk.
On the iPad, however, things are different.
I do not use the iPad as my main device, and I use the emails received thereon for general review only, any real responses or work arising is done later back on the iMac.
So, when I have read emails on the iPad, unless they require action before I get back home to the iMac, I tend to read - and then delete them.  They move to the iPad's Trash where they remain until I decide to have a purge of old deleted emails and then delete them from Trash.
Could that be what is happening?  Is the act of deleting them off the iPad, either into Trash or later from Trash itself, be the cause of them being deleted from the gmail servers?
Would setting Rules on the iPad (if indeed that is possible) so that gmails go direct into a folder other than my In-Box be a possible solution?
A solution would also be, I suppose, not to download gmails to the iPad, but that would defeat the object of having a tablet, even though I use it more for information rather then action!

Then I installed HP Scanjet Full Feature Software and Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6 from HP support page:  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=sj-78355-5 &cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&product=3236366&sw_lang=

    Does it help?

  • How to delete gmail messages in Mail for Mac

I am using Mail 7.3 on my Macbook Pro with Mavericks 10.9.5.
I use Gmail for my email.
When I DELETE a message in Gmail it goes into the Gmail Archive (and stays in the All Mail folder)- it does NOT get Deleted.
Gmail help says I need to drag each message to the Trash when using Mail as Delete will not work.
    Really?
This is a drag to do, besides there is no Trash folder.
I have a 'Bin' folder and a 'Deleted Messages' folder so I'm trying to use them.
Still for Mail and Gmail not to be compatible for Delete seems crazy.
I have tried changing the Mailbox Behaviours in Preferences but it seems to make no difference.

I Wonder if your sitting there laughing at us as if there is some big conspiracy about selecti all and deleting all from our iPhones and iPads.
    The conspiracy.
Why can we not just not select all in the mail inbox and then delete all, if we do not want to delete every single one of them then deselect the few that we do not want to delete instead of having to select the thousands we do want delete individually.
And if you do make a mistake and delete the wrong emails by selecting all, then go to your trash and reinstate the ones you did not want to delete
I think 99% of us know how to DELETE emails individually, as you put it.
That's just sarcasm and if not then then your not fully understanding the question asked.
I would also say that probably 99% of us want to be able to select all and delete all if that's what we desire.
I would just like a honest answer of why we cannot select all delete all rather than giving me a load of rubbish about encase we delete something we didn't want to delete.

  • How to retrieve deleted gmail in apple mail.

During the process of deleting thousands of emails in apple mail, I accidentally deleted all the email.  Can this be undone or can I retrieve those deleted emails?   The trash has been emptied.

In the mailbox list, below the word "MAILBOXES" and the standard mailboxes (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash, & Junk), you should have some lines like "SMART MAILBOXES", "REMINDERS", "RSS", "ON MY MAC", and a line with the name of each of your mail accounts. Each of those lines may have subordinate lines indented below it, or they may be hidden. Before Lion, the top-level lines would have standard disclosure triangles to their left like folders, but Lion Mail removed that visual clue in favor of a word "Show" or "Hide" to the right that appears only when you mouse over it.
The Gmail Spam folder you seek is two folders deep inside your Gmail account.
    Here's my Gmail account listing:
It has 41 unread messages. If I hover my cursor over the oval with "41" in it, the oval shifts left and "Show" appears. If I click on "Show", I get this:
If I click on the disclosure triangle left of the "[Gmail]" folder, voila!
By the way, this intermediate "[Gmail]" folder is specific to Gmail, Google Apps mail sites, and other mail sites using Google's Gmail code, as is the All Mail folder. Other servers will have their own folder structure.

  • Delete [Gmail] folder in mail?

I just set up a Gmail account on my iPhone 4 and I have a folder listed [Gmail] that I do not want.  Is there a way to get rid of it?  I figured out how to get rid of all the other folders that appeared such as "Spam" and "Important" but I can not get rid of the [Gmail] folder.  Any tips?
    Thanks.
    Thom

You are seeing an intentional but strange feature of GMail...  nothing is ever deleted, and instead remains forever in All Mail.  You probably want to just hide All Mail from Mail, so that you don't have to see it and don't have all those messages syncing back to your Mac.  See Hiding GMail’s “All Mail” from Apple Mail.  There has been one change on GMail since I wrote that, though...  you no longer have to go to Labs and turn on Advanced IMAP.
(Note that my pages contain links to other pages that promote my services, and this should not be taken as an endorsement of my services by Apple.)

  • Deleted gmail acct now can't update software

I don't know if it's coincidence, but I'm trying to update to the newest software on my ipad2.  I keep getting a message stating there has been an error and asking if I want to try again. This has been going on for 2 days now. A few wweks ago I deleted my gmail account which was my log in addy. Coincidence or is this the problem?

Coincidence, unless you also changed you apple ID. ( always a bad idea!). Go to the app store and buy a free app, just to make sure the apple iD is still working right.

  • Forever delete gmail items that flowed into mail?

    I have two email accounts . . . @mac.com & @gmail.com, with both being available in "Mail".
Question:  in "MAIL" how can I permanently get rid of thousands of gmail items that now reside in my archive?
Not sure if this is really happening, but when I delete them, gmail (viewed from their own site), seems to go into overdrive to restore them.
If that's possible - how can I keep that from happening?
btw - Gmail is keenly trying to keep their items from being deleted . . . they want to keep every bit of info on their users.
Regretting that I ever signed up for gmail, I develop a plan to omit it from my life, but for the moment I must keep it open.

  • How to view deleted gmail chat threads after syncing Gmail with thunderbird?

I have recently synced Gmail with Thunderbird in hopes of retrieving deleted chats. In my inbox it shows the sender as "1294746741783715944@xxx" with no content in the message itself. I'm just hoping that there may be a way to view this message.

There are actually a bunch of these messages dating as far back as 2009 which I can confirm are chat threads and have been deleted through G mail but resurfaced through Thunderbird. I would like to view the contents of these messages.
