Entourage Problems?

I had a problem sending an e-mail through Entourage, then it said "Entourage cannot access your data. To attempt to fix the problem, rebuild your database."
I tried that, but it then said "Compacting failed. A read/write error has occurred (-40)."
And now I am at a total loss... Anyone know what I should do?

Microsoft Office Entourage, problem receiving mail

I have set up Microsoft Entourage to send E-Mail but it will not receive E-mail.
Whenever I select the button (Click here for advanced settings) ((in the receiving mail part of preferences)) the advanced settings window pops up, I then click the box (Override default POP Port) then I change to the correct POP port.
I then exit the advanced settings window with all the settings correct, Entourage automatically turns off the override button, I then cannot receive E-mail.
Whatever I do it will always turn off the override POP box
Does anyone know why? And maybe how to fix the problem?

Since Entourage is not an Apple product, you should really consider posting your question on Microsoft's own forums for Entourage, as they would be more focused on the issue than an Apple forum that deals with Apple's own Mail and Address Book applications:

Entourage problem

Hello! I have a sudden fatal problem with Entourage on my iMac. I can't do anything at all without getting an error message: An unknown error (16008) has occurred. It won't let me do a thing - send or receive mail, write a new email, go to the address book or calendar: anything. I can click on a few things and have it seem to work when I first open it, then it freezes. I can only get it to quit by force quitting it. I tried it after a reboot, and no improvement.
Possibly relevant but I don't know how: I just got a new iPhone and used it to get my mail a couple of times. Since then, though, Entourage has worked.
If anyone can help me get this to work again, I would be extremely grateful!

Well, I am not at all sure it is not an Apple problem. Seems much more than coincidental that I bought an iPhone and used it to download mail 24 hours before this problem with Entourage, a program that I've been using without this problem for more than 5 years.
I gotta say that your response is more or less what I would have expected from someone at Microsoft - don't bother us with your Mac problems. The same amount of effort could have been expended on a helpful solution. Just sayin'. Am heading to the iPhone section to see if someone kind might have had this happen to them and will help me.

Microsoft Entourage Problem

Hey all, I tried setting up my Entourage account today and am having some problems. I normally use my yahoo.com email account to access my email but I figure it would be easier to use Entourage. I tried setting up my account but I'm not too sure if it's a POP or IMAP or whatever. I entered my email address and it automatically set it up as a POP. I enter my yahoo account username and password that I use to login and it tells me that my username or password is incorrect. I don't know what the problem is. Anybody have any idea? Thanks.

Hey Rizzo,
Try the following settings in your entourage account. You are probably having a problem with the need to use SSL (secure socket layer) and corresponding ports. This is not the defaults. You'll need to use the "use authenticatio" and maybe the "advanced" button associated with it. I don't have Entourage open right now and don't remember the exact interface. Good luck!!!

Entourage problem with sent items folder

I have an "invisible" item in my sent items folder. I keep getting an error that says "The action could not be completed. An unknown error (4362) occurred."
How can I get rid of this invisible file?
I often have to force quit entourage because it seems like it locks up.

Mavericks and Entourage problems!!

Hello all.
I have just updated my Snow Leopard to Mavericks via the free offer.
My Entourage has decided to play up on two things:-
• When I open Entourage it automatically opens up a new email to compose = Don't want it to.
• Also, as it launches a warning window appears asking for permission to allow/deny accepting incoming network connections. I have changed the settings in the Firewall pane (as suggested in the window) but still it asks me everytime Entourage opens.
Finally, why when writing questions in this window, does the flashing cursor move up to the last sentence therefore mixing up the words typed?
Hopefully when I type this it will show you.

The issues with incoming network connections and cursor jumping most likely is specific to issues on your machine. It's either a settting or a conflict with a login item.
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
Log into Guest User

Office 2004 & Entourage problem

Whenever i have had my machine on for the whole day and come to open any Microsoft software i get an error message telling me i cant open the program. Restarting my machine sorts out the problem but i am worried as i have reinstalled the software and that has not changed the situation. Is my HD on the way out or is it just Microsoft software. It seems strange that the apps work perfectly most of the day but start giving trouble if the machine has been running all day. Any sugestions would be apreciated. Thakns.

Try deleting the following:
HD/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.6B.csstore
HD/Users/your name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
After deleting the two files restart your computer. Then launch Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions.

Entourage Problem and my MacPro

I just got my MacPro and loaded Microsoft Office (latest version) on it. Everything works except for Entourage. When I boot up Entourage the load screen comes up and the menu but the spinning ball spins forever. I finally have to "force quit". I then went to the systems prefs but I couldn't do anything. If I clicked on something, say "sound", the spinning ball spins forever and I have to force quit. when I try to shut or re-boot, the blue screen stays forever. I finally have to do the old push botton stop.
The only way around it is to zap the PRAM. System Prefs works again but if I try to boot up Entourage the same thing occurs. I did uninstall Office and re-installed, did the updates, but the same thing occurs.
Office, including Entourage works fine on my MacBook Pro so I am not sure what is going on here.
Any ideas anyone??

Did you delete the trial version of office before installing the regular version? Have you run all the updates for office?

Microsoft Entourage problem with encypted attachments

For some reason, when I send emails with MS word attachments, the recipient cannot open the document. Is it something to do wih encryption to other non Mac computers? Please help! Thank you.

Entourage for Mac 2008 continuing problems

I really thought I had this problem licked when I found a 10-year old post here with info that solved my receiving mail on Entourage problem. Alas! That no longer works. Now, I have to Force Quit the program, restart and cross fingers! Sometimes it works, and sometimes not.It tries to download hundreds of old emails, or it just hangs and I get an error message of "timed out". When I send a report to Microsoft, it's full of technical stuff of no meaning to me. Question: Since I have all my files (dozens!) of many years in Entourage, what email program can I use with my Mac Pro? I really should change since I'm reading email on ComCast.net now. I'm on ComCast cable for receiving whatever Internet access I have here at the house.Ideally, my new program could import files from Entourage, but is that feasible?Obviously, I'm just a user, not a techie. Any ideas?Thanks.

How can I get Entourage to stop downloading old emails again and again?

I hope this is an appropriate forum to ask a question re using Entourage in Office 2004 for Mac. I have been using this email client successfully for several years. Suddenly, after being out of the country for about 1 month and gone from my home computer, when I launch Entourage it begins to download 5-6000 old emails from several accounts. It has been doing this about once every 7-10 days. This has happened 3 or 4 times since I returned.
I have tried rebuilding the Entourage application several times and this does not help. I have also updated to Leopard and this has made no difference in the Entourage problem. When I initially returned there were a large number of emails to download since I had left them on the server even though I was traveling with a laptop. I am wondering if this has anything to do with the problem? I would greatly appreciate any assistance or suggestions anyone has to offer. Thanks, John

Never mind. I figured it out for OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard:
If you see the Sync menu in the menu bar, skip to step 3:
If you do not see the Sync menu in your menu bar, skip to step 7.
Hold the Option key on your keyboard, then click the Sync menu in the menu bar:
if you see the Sync menu but you are unable to open it, skip to step 8.
Choose Reset Sync Services.
Click Reset Sync History.
Test for the original issue. If the issue persists, or if you are unable to open the Sync menu, follow these steps:
In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
Open Terminal.
In the Terminal window, type or paste the following command on a single line:
/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
Press Return.
Quit Terminal after the operation has completed (when Terminal returns to the command prompt with a $).

Entourage vs Webmail

Greetings -
I'm having some issues with emails that are being sent from our company's webmail account. Our office uses Exchange for our office email accounts and we also use a webmail account to access our emails when we are out of the office. We have 2 Macs on our office network that use Entourage to access company email as well. The problem starts when a user access our webmail account and responds/replies to an email from one of our Mac users. The result is that our Mac users get completely blank emails from any email that was replied to using the webmail account.
If you have any solutions for this, I would be greatly appreciative.

When an OWA user replies to an HTML email, the reply may appear blank to an Entourage user. Our Entourage users reported receiving blank email messages just hours after MS KB 911829 was applied to our Exchange server. We're still waiting for a fix from Microsoft.
Steps to reproduce the problem: 1) Send a new HTML email from Outlook 2003. 2) Reply to email from OWA using IE in Windows (the OWA Premium interface) 3) Open the reply in Entourage. Body of message appears as a horizontal line without text.
It appears the editor in OWA's Premium interface (available only through Internet Explorer in Windows) is generating bad HTML. Entourage doesn't know how to handle the bad code. The same HTML message is displayed correctly in other email clients (Apple Mail, Thunderbird, OWA, Outlook). If a reply is sent from OWA using Firefox or Safari (the OWA Basic interface), HTML is converted to plain text and is readable when opened in Entourage.

We are having this problem as well and I can confirm that it happens after installing the KB 911829 patch. After we installed the patch, all our Entourage users reported getting blank emails. So far we haven’t found a fix and I am considering trying to uninstall the Exchange patch since we have no versions of the Vista beta in our office.

June 5, 2006 -- Last week, Microsoft has issued Version 2 of the KB 911829 patch for Exchange Server. The first version of the KB 911829 patch caused a problem with Entourage where users can’t see updates to recurring calendar events. It also causes a problem where Entourage users receive blank email messages.

You will notice that the download has been updated with a 'V2" in the binary name (Exchange2003-KB911829-v2-x86-ENU.exe). This was released on may 31.

Just installed Tiger and having problems

I just installed 10.4.3 with an Archive and Install. Since then I have had a host of problems and tried a variety of fixes. Some have worked yet in general the machine freezes or slows down to an incredibly slow pace. And then I have to restart.
What I have done:
Initial Archive and Install
* Office 2004 products not working, restart cpu, get blue screen
* Start up in Safe mode and get rid of MIcrosoft Office Database Daemon in Start-up Items
* Computer restarts but still sluggish have to Force Quit
Other problems:
Printing to Epson Printer
* Get a message "the printer "(null)" could not be found in your list of printers.
I don't have a printer "(null)"
FYI - I am printing via Airport and have added the printer to the list and picked the driver.
I switched to Mail and ical because of the Entourage problems.
* Mail seems slow and when I am loading a simple no attachment message, I get a spinning wheel.
* Mail Help window has disappeared.
Safari/Firefox
* Slower loading than 10.3.9. Spinning Wheel.
What I have tried:
* Fixed permissions
* Booted from the Tiger disk and repaired the disk. No repairs were done.
Each of these steps solved the problems immediately but as soon as I start multitasking between mail, Office 2004, Safari everything is slow and often ends up Force Quitting at least on program.
What would you do next?
1. Should I reinstall 10.4.3 from the disk with a Basic install? And then upgrade to 10.4.6 to see if that will fix my problems?
2. Or should I do an Erase and Install? (which I am trying to avoid?)
The majority my work is done in email and Office products. Thanks in advance for any help or advice that will get me out of this quandary.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
First see if upgrading Office to the latest release fixes issues. If not, verify that Spotlight has finished indexing by seeing if opening the Spotlight menu reveals that it is indexing or not. If it isn't finished indexing, wait for it to finish.
If that does not solve issues, see this article on fixing font issues. Many have had trouble with whose fonts aren't working right:

Snow Leopard and Entourage

Unfortunately I have to use Entourage (2004). Periodically Entourage Sync Services seems to hog the processors locking up any applications. Can OSX limit the extent of the grab or should I be looking at how Entourage is set up?

I doubt that you can fix your Entourage problem from the Snow Leopard side of things. If you can fix it at all it probably have to be done from the Entourage side of things. Have you asked Microsoft about your problem?
Personally I think looking into how to get rid of Entourage might be the simpler solution.
