Entourage to Mail Problem

I have been using Entourage for emails, but recently switched over to Apple Mail, which I really like. Only problem is in iCal my email notifications are still trying to send using the Entourage program. I think somewhere over the years a script was installed to make it use Entourage to send emails, but I can't remember where or how. I need to use Apple Mail to send them now, of course. How on earth do I change this?

If it was one of these, you may need to re-install iCal...

Just moved my email from Entourage to Mail. Having real problems with getting my signatures to work properly despite sending email as Rich Text.
When adding in a small company logo to the signature, PC's / windows computers only receive signature and logo as attachments.
I've tried all possible fixes I can find including getting a PC user to format the logo but no joy. Has anyone experienced this and any ideas on a fix gratefully received.

Send it as html so the signature is an image source URL

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail

I want to move my E-Mail from Entourage to Mail. I'm using a new MacBook Pro with 10.6.1and wondered if there were any tips I need before I start the process.
I'm intending to use the "File/Import Mailboxes" function in Mail
Also - I have a lot of subfolders which will also need transferring to Mail and am a little scared of messing up the process and losing important messages.
Any advice before I make the transfer will be gratefully received.
    Thanks

I had nothing but problems with it.
I got a roughly 15 GB mail database (roughly 100.000 messages) which I am trying to import from Entourage to Mail using 10.6.1. None of my folders with more than roughly 2500 - 3000 messages in them could have been taken over. None of them. When the import reaches somewhere more than 2000 messages in the actual folder, the import stops and just results all the rest of the folders left empty.

  • From Entourage to Mail

Problem : Entourage exports e-mail addresses under text format, when Mail imports them under LDIF or Vcard formats !
How to import my e-mail addresses from Entourage to mail ? I have a lot of them, proceeding one by one is unthinkable.

  • Entourage opens Mail messages

I recently migrated from Entourage to Mail. So far, all is good—except for one frustrating problem:
If I save a Mail message (e.g., by dragging it to the desktop), it saves fine, but not with the Mail "open envelope" icon. Then if I double-click on that icon, it opens with Entourage and not Mail.
    Two items FYI:
    1. Yes, I have set preferences in Mail so that Mail is my default email reader.
    2. This problem occurs on my desktop unit (MacPro) but not on my laptop (MacBookPro).
I know I can drag the message to the Mail icon in my dock, but I often forget that step and double-click the icon. Then Entourage starts up and opens the message. Frustrating.
    Any/all help appreciated.

You might try rebuilding the "launch services database":

  • Many mail problems

I restored my hard drive from a Superduper backup and now cannot use either Entourage or Mail. In the past Superduper has worked flawlessly so I don't know what happened this time. Entourage keeps saying "Could not change to that identity" and error -5000. After dismissing the error dialog box another box pops up allowing me to choose an identity. There is only one identity and it won't allow me to change to that one. Even if I create a new identity via the dialog box it won't allow me to change to the new identity either.
When mail fires up I get this: Mail can’t open because its index is read-only. I have changed permissions in the get info dialog box to allow me (the admin) to have read/write access and this then allows the program to run but no Viewer Window appears and when I check preferences there are no accounts present and I cannot add any accounts. At the bottom of the accounts preference pane is a message <Do no localize>. I don't remember ever seeing that before but perhaps I just never noticed.
One other thing: Mail will not quit normally, I have to force quit every time.
It would seem to be a permissions problem that is causing all the trouble but repairing permissions does not help.

  • Mailboxes messed up after importing from Entourage: missing header problem

After switching from Entourage to Mail I found that many of my mailboxes are messed up. In Entourage these mailboxes work correctly. I already located the problem, but I cannot think of a solution.
The problem is that Mail uses the info from the mail header (date received and date sent) to determine the order of the messages. Comparing the long headers helped me find out that some messages do not have these headers. Still, Entourage shows correctly when I sent the message.
When Mail imports these messages, the headers are missing, and the message is given the date of import.
Is there a way that Mail can use other info than the headers so that the messages are imported correctly?
Or is there a way to let Entourage copy the sent info into the mail header?
Or should I think in a totally different way?
This thread helped me find the problem, but I can't use it for a solution http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5156540&#5156540
    Thanks for your help!

No, Mail in 10.4 is not crap; it's actually better and more reliable than Mail in 10.5. So here's what I would do, though this will not preserve any folder hierarchy--you'd have to manually do that:
    1. In your Panther Mail program, choose an account, a mailbox (Inbox for this example), and Select All messages in that mailbox.
    2. Choose Save As… and choose Raw Message Source from the dialog window, then choose a destination (your Desktop) and save the file as Inbox.mbox.
    3. After that file is saved, go to your Desktop and create two new folders: one named Inbox and the other named Mailbox.
    4. Put the Inbox.mbox file inside the Mailbox folder, and the Mailbox folder inside the Inbox folder. Copy the nested folder/file to the Tiger machine if necessary so you can access it from Tiger Mail.
    5. Open Tiger Mail, choose File >Import Mailboxes…, select Other from the list of import options, then navigate to the Inbox folder and select Choose. The file Inbox.mbox should appear in the window; click Continue and wait for the import to finish. You can then move the Inbox messages out of the Import folder to wherever you like in Tiger Mail.
    6. Rinse and repeat for your other mailboxes, changing the names of nested folders/files as necessary.

  • Help move from obese Entourage to Mail

I've put off this transition for waaaaay too long, and now I'm stuck, 'bout 80% through.
My Entourage database was over 7 GB, total. I was lazy for not having switched before, but the fact that each email meant that Time Machine had to back up an ~ 7 GB file (every freakin' hour!), and that it would take a minute or more to run a simple search in my contacts list, well, that pushed me to make the change.
So, I did a little homework and found that there was no way I was going to export the entire database in a digestible chunk for Mail to import, so I dragged each mail folder into finder, individually, and then imported them into Mail. No Problem!
But wait! I go in to my (imported) 'in box' and 'sent', each of which had about eleventy-bajillion emails in them in Entourage, and I find that they're both incomplete. They each start at the (chronological) beginning, but each stops at some random date that is only most-of-the-way through the whole list.
So I go back into finder and discover that both files are exactly the same size... 2.15 GB. I find that to be more than coincidental.
My questions to you are these...
Am I limited to a max export size of 2.15 GB for any one mail folder in Entourage? (if yes, I'll go and parse these mama-beater-sized folders into a few smaller ones)
    or...
Is there another tool that will allow me to export (and then import into Mail) a folder greater than this magical size limit from Entourage into Mail?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you ever compressed Entourage's database? When you delete emails from the Deleted folder, they don't actually go anywhere. They remain part of the database, though inaccessible.
Close Entourage if it's running. Hold down the Option key and launch it again. What you will be given instead is the Database Utility. Run the option first to "Verify database integrity". If that comes back okay, then run "Compact database". This will rewrite the entire database and leave out all of the deleted items. If you've never done this before, your database size could shrink by a lot.
When that's done, I always run the verify function again just to make sure the new database is okay. Then quit the Database Utility and launch Entourage normally. If everything looks okay, quit Entourage and go to the folder in your user account where the database is. You'll find "Main Identity" and "Main Identity (Backed up date)". The second is your old database before the compress and can be tossed.
I go in to my (imported) 'in box' and 'sent', each of which had about eleventy-bajillion emails in them in Entourage, and I find that they're both incomplete.
For this issue, it may have to do with how many emails eleventy-bajillion is. OS X has a limit of something like 38,000 items per folder. If your email count exceeds that, then that's why it got cut off.

  • Upgrade install to 10.5 Mail problems solution

Ok, I am posting this after 2 days of research why Mail behaves crazily after I installed 10.5 via update. I tried archive and install as well with same Mail problems resulting.
Now maybe this wont work for everybody, but it solved all my problems like a charm resulting in Mail working perfectly now.
After one whole annoying day behind the forums I just thought I should post it.
The basic problem was that my Mail didn't want to receive messages while the progress bars were just spinning infinite. Quitting Mail had to be done via Force Quite to stop it.
First thing i noticed was that if I open "*Previous recipients*" panel I get the everlasting spinning beach ball.
So I gathered that there must be some problem in the communication between Mail and Address Book. I backuped the Address Book database and deleted everything I could find connected with Address Book.
Next step was going to Mail folder in my User Library where I deleted all mailboxes .plists and mails because I had some messages I couldn't delete in Mail app. I also deleted other .plist files.
Then I reinstalled Address Book via additional install and rebooted the machine.
Address Book now contained no addresses. I opened Mail, and bingo everything started working, opening "previous recipients" showed 0 contacts and I starter using Mail without problems.
To finish the thing, just backup Address Book ad voila.
Now, maybe that won't sort out everybody's problem, but it sure did mine. And I had all Mail problems described on this forum while sing Mail.
Good luck fixing this highly annoying Leopard feature!

    Hi,
Same thing here. All printers gone. Archive & Install 10.5 on a 2.33Ghz MBP. Cannot find my network printers. Tried everything I can think of. When I boot from my external drive (10.4.9) everything works great. Leopard also ate my company VPN and won't give it back. Any help would be welcome.

  • Many syncing and e-mail problems.

Hi folks, lots of syncing and e-mail problems here:
Syncing: My phone won't sync iCal (it tells me my phone is disconnected), my safari bookmarks or my email accounts. I've been through the threads here, tried resetting iSync, tried deleting calendars and resetting to 10 days instead of 30 -- still no luck. For e-mail, initially iTunes saw the e-mail accounts but did not sync theml. I tried the one-time advance settings and now it's not even seeing the accounts and still not syncing them. and for Safari, no luck with the bookmarks at all even thought the check-box is checked.
Also, the iPhone won't receive e-mail from any of my POP accounts, even the one I set by hand (because none of the settings synced.) I used the same settings that I have on my desktop, but no luck. I use RoadRunner, so I know I can't send off it. But I went to the genius bar today and they told me to just leave the SMTP server field blank and I should be able to receive, but all I get on wi-fi and edge is a message that says, "Cannot Get Mail, the connection to the server "pop-xxxxxx etc" failed." even on my home netowrk, with five bars, it can't seem to connect. (btw, it does seem to be working properly on my .Mac account, but I don't use that account for most of my correspondence.)
As far as the sync problems, the genius bar told me to reinstall iTunes, which I did with the new update that just came out this evening. Still no luck.
any thoughts? bum phone? some setting I'm not catching? any help would be appreciated.
    Dave
    Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

You will find the iPhone will freak out over any kind of perceived data corruption. Calendars seem to the worst for this (windows or mac)
Test in a new user and try sending info in each direction. If it works - then your phone works fine.
Other users have reported having to basically copy the contents of their calendars into a sticky or text edit window. delete the calendars and create brand new ones. they then just transfer the data back.

  • Outlook emails at work - transferring to mac Entourage or Mail or anything at home !

    Hi,
I use PC Outlook at work.  I have loads of personal emails but work does not allow me to use the "export" function to export any emails from my work system, even if personal (ugh).  So I cannot export my emails or folders as a .pst file (or anything else).
What I am able to do is copy and paste individual Outlook emails on to my personal hard drive, as a .msg file.
Is there a good way I can transfer these .msg files on my hard drive into a readable format on my Mac at home (e.g. I have Entourage or Mail or Yahoo or Gmail)?
I know I will have lost the date/time stamp/ordering system, but I would be happy just to be able to access the email text and attachments (even if not ordered by date/time).  Is this possible?
Apologies if this has been discussed to death on these forums.  I have tried searching the forums but most of the previous discussions seem to presume you can export the files from work, rather than the messy cut and paste of .msg files.
    Thank you.

Oh !  I have now found a discussion thread which recommended this, which looks like a solution: http://www.element26.net/products/shop/outlook-msg-viewer/  .  This forum is great !
But if anyone has a better solution (i.e. a free solution ! ) or a better tip of transferring Outlook emails (without using the "export" function, as it is disabled at work), then I'd be grateful.
    Thanks.

  • E71 E-Mail Key and Related Mail Problems

Since my E71 was updated to the latest firmware (at a Nokia Service Center) around 6 months ago I have had a number of odd mail problems, which manifest themselves as follows:
After an initial boot everything with mail and messaging works fine as expected. However at least once or twice a day the phone switches unpredictably into an odd mode with the following symptoms:
      1) E-Mail key stops responding to short or long presses.
      2) New e-mails and sms messages which arrive do not appear on the home screen as usual, though they may (or may not) appear as small icons in the top right corner of the screen.
      3) For new e-mails only the title/header is downloaded, whereas usually I have it set to automatically download the first 2 K of each message.
      4) New messages still appear as 'unread' even after reading them. Manually setting them to 'read' works, but only after a long delay.
      5) The flashing navigation key light which warns of new messages/mails gets stuck in flashing mode and will not stop until the phone is rebooted.
Problems 1-3 occur every time, and 4&5 occasionally, but all can only be cured by rebooting the phone, after which it works fine again - for a while.
Since I first saw this problem I have updated the firmware twice (it is currently on the latest version), but the problem persists. I wonder if anyone has seen this problem or has any idea how to fix it? It's a great irritation with an otherwise excellent phone, especially since it was all working fine when I first purchased it. Thanks for any comments or suggestions

For anyone who is interested, I've found the answer to my own question, though not the solution to my problem. After several days playing with mail settings I noticed that when Retrieval settings > E-mail to retrieve is set to 'Headers only' or ' Msgs & attachs', there is no problem. However, if it is set to 'Size limit' with a setting of say 2K or 5K (i.e. just enough to capture the first few important paragraphs of any message) then receipt of many types of formatted mails larger than the specified size causes the mail program to crash, and the OS to switch into the odd mode described in my earlier post.
This is particularly irritating since I travel frequently overseas in Asia where roaming GSM data use is expensive (and there are no caps or limits on roaming fees), and due to the nature of my work my e-mails typically come with long threads and large attachments. Therefore I am left with the choice between:
         A) Downloading mail headers only and waiting till I can find a WiFi connection to find out what the message actually says
         B) Downloading the whole message and paying many hundreds of dollars a month in data roaming fees
         C) Using the fixed mail size limit setting and accept that my mail program will crash several times a day and
require the phone to be rebooted each time to restore normal functionality
Anyway, it seem this problem is clearly due a bug with the Nokia mail software in recent builds, since it worked fine with these exact same settings for the first year I had the phone, and repeated clean re-installs of the latest firmware do not fix the problem. Therefore, if any Nokia developers are monitoring this board you can add this to your bug list, and you know where to start looking for the bad bit of code.

  • Mail problems on Yosemite

    Hi there,
Does anybody know if anything is going to be done regarding the mail problem on Yosemite?
this was a recurring on Maverics too...
Since i updated to Yosemite, mail does not work well on my iMac, i cannot get my mail... but i can send mail.
it does not seem to connect properly to my Pop account.
my mail does work well on my iPhone and other devices.
it was fine after the recent Yosemite update, and now it's back... and very frustrating,
is there anyone who can help ? or anyone at Apple that is going to fix it for once and for all ?
    Thanks.

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail, iCal and Address Book

    Hi
I am currently trying to figure out a smart/safe way to move from Entourage to Apple Mail.
    iCal
I successfully imported all my Entourage Calendar items into iCal. This created a "folder" under the "Home" and "Work" folders already in iCal called "Entourage".
However, I would imagine that if I delete anything in Entourage's Calendar, this will also be deleted in the iCal "Entourage" folder.
    *_iCal question_*
How can I move all of the items in iCal, so that they remain there permanently, even if I delete Entourage and its content?
    *_Address Book_*
All address book items in Entourage were synched with Address Book.
    *_Address Book question_*
If I unselect the option to synch Entourage with Address Book, will everything remain in Address Book, or will they be deleted, when I trash the data in Entourage?
    Mail
I have no idea how to import my email accounts and folders (I only have 3 emails in my Inbox - the rest is stored in folders located under the Inbox) currently located in Entourage into Mail.
    *_Mail question_*
Any clues as to how to do that?
Many thanks for your thoughts and responses.
