Entourage vs Mail + Address + Calendar

I just switched to Mac world from Windows world. I would like to decide if I should go with Entourage or Mail + Address + Calendar. As I need to import everything in Outlook to either one, I am seeking experience users' comments which one is more appropriate for me in a long run. Thanks!

Entourage is a powerful information manager that incorporates mail, contacts, and calendar into one entity. With OS X Mail, iCal, and Address Book provide separate applications that provide basic tools but not the more advanced capabilities of Entourage. Entourage is closer functionally to Outlook but for an individual user who needs more advanced information control.
Moving from Outlook to the Mac, whether to Entourage or other utilities is not simple because Outlook does not provide a common database for transfer. The best tool to use is Outlook2Mac.
If you want basic tools for email, todos, and contacts then the OS X tools should be fine, and they are well integrated with one another. If you need more powerful tools then you would prefer to use Entourage.

  • Moving from Entourage to Mail/Address Book

Hi, I am currently using Entourage 2004 where I have my Mac account and two other email accounts syncing. I was interested in using Apple Mail, Address Book and iCal instead. Is there a way to export my email history within all of the folders and subfolders to Mail from Entourage? Likewise, can I bring in the contacts list and calendar in Entourage to the Address Book and iCal?
    Thanks.

BDAqua, I have one IMAP and two POP accounts. So as you may know, Entourage splits the two different eMail configs into two separate folder trees. Will Mail, bring in bother folder systems?

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail, iCal and Address Book

    Hi
I am currently trying to figure out a smart/safe way to move from Entourage to Apple Mail.
    iCal
I successfully imported all my Entourage Calendar items into iCal. This created a "folder" under the "Home" and "Work" folders already in iCal called "Entourage".
However, I would imagine that if I delete anything in Entourage's Calendar, this will also be deleted in the iCal "Entourage" folder.
    *_iCal question_*
How can I move all of the items in iCal, so that they remain there permanently, even if I delete Entourage and its content?
    *_Address Book_*
All address book items in Entourage were synched with Address Book.
    *_Address Book question_*
If I unselect the option to synch Entourage with Address Book, will everything remain in Address Book, or will they be deleted, when I trash the data in Entourage?
    Mail
I have no idea how to import my email accounts and folders (I only have 3 emails in my Inbox - the rest is stored in folders located under the Inbox) currently located in Entourage into Mail.
    *_Mail question_*
Any clues as to how to do that?
Many thanks for your thoughts and responses.

  • Need help with Mail address book and calendar.

    Hello,
I am a new Mac User. I just purchased my first MacBook. My goal is to switch totally over to Mac for both home and work. I was able to get the mail program to pull down my exchange mail, however it does not appear to have taken in my address book.
My goal would be for my machine to totally sync up with my mail, and calendar the same way that my iPhone does. Is there a way to do this?
If I can't get my contacts and calendar to "sync". I will not be able to use my Mac at work.
Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jason

I do not believe you can sync your data between Outlook and Address Book and iCal. You can transfer data using a third-party utility, Outlook2Mac. However, you could integrate with your Outlook account using Entourage, one of the Office 2008 applications. You would have to purchase Microsoft Office 2008.

In Mail.app, try pulling down the File menu and select the "import mailboxes" item.
To sync your PDA, use Apple's iSinc. Info on iSync is available here ...

  • Calendar invitation e-mail address garbled

When creating iOS Calendar invitation e-mail address is garbled by iOS. Have anyone seen the same? This is different than other reported bugs in this forum with topic Calendar invitations not sent.
This is how I did invitation.
    1. Create invitation
    2. Invite by entering e-mail, NOT contact, example: [email protected]
    3. iOS will notify that mynameadrcom is not a valid e-mail address, i.e., e-mail address with ALL dots and @ removed! See picture below, with parts of address hidden.
I have the same bug in ML 10.8.2. However, no warning, no logs, "only" effect is that invitation is NOT sent.
    Best regards,
    Claes

I am attempting to give access to two new users and both have received the e-mail invitation. However when clicking the "Join your IT team on Spiceworks" link they eventually timeout/"This page can't be displayed". The links begins with http://track.spiceworks.com/track/click/... (the click tracking links are very long) and never redirects to the local server. I added a user two weeks ago without experiencing this issue.

  • Is there a way to use Apple Mail/Address Book/Calendar with a Microsoft Exchange Server that requires a client certificate ?

I have an Exchange server configured to require a client certificate. Is there a way to configure a certificate for Apple Mail/Address Book/Calendar ? There seems to be no option in the account settings to do that (in contrast to for example the IMAP settings).
    Any help highly appreciated !

I don't know. Try downloading the certificate and installing it in your keychain. See what happens.

    Dominique =)

After you sync with Address Book, and you uncheck the Sync in Entourage, they will not be deleted from Address Book.
For email, open Apple Mail, File Menu, Import Mailboxes..., then choose Entourage.
Or you can drag each folder from Entourage onto your drive, which makes a ".mbox" file which is compatible with many different mail programs. You can import those into Apple Mail (or into Thunderbird, or into Outlook Express, etc.).
You can also use a Gmail account, using IMAP (not POP), and drag'n'drop the emails from Entourage into that, then connect to it from Apple Mail and have them back.
Killing off Entourage is harder. Assuming you don't want to uninstall Office, you'll at least need to go to System Prefs, Accounts, and delete the Login Item for the Microsoft Database. I'm not sure what other steps may be necessary.

  • Find server calendar, e-mail address of directory domain users

I'm trying to automate an action to run on our OS X Server machine to e-mail each user his or her daily schedule. My current plan is to have each user delegate access to his or her calendar to one account, log the server into this account, and write an Automator action to which I manually add each user's calendar name and e-mail address. (Automator makes this process much easier than using Applescript or bash or whatever, as I don't have to deal with parsing the iCal files myself)
However, it would be much easier if I could just tell it to iterate through all of the users in the directory domain, log in as each of them in turn, and have each e-mail the calendar to himself or herself, or something like that. My guess is that it is not possible to script something like 'log in', or that if it were possible, the user variable 'home e-mail address' would still apply to the root user, not the user as whom it was told to log in. However, I can't figure any other way to get a list of calendars and their associated e-mail addresses.
I'll probably have to go the route of manually entering each person's info, but if anyone can think of a better idea, please let me know!
    Greg

On OS X server all the calendar users are listed in the directory, so you just have to search that looking for user with the appropriate ServicesLocator attribute value. Doing that will all you to get the record name, email address and GUID of calendar users. For each of those you then ned to do a lot of work to get their calendar data for the day. That is not trivial to do.
I suggest you right up a feature request to have an option for the server to automatically do this.

  • Deleting calendars & e-mail addresses from iTunes "info" tab.

When I connect my iphone to my Mac, in iTunes launches when I look at the "info" tab there are calendars and e-mail addresses greyed out. (I use icloud so I don't sync my e-mail & calendars on the Mac.) Is there any way to delete those as one of the e-mail addresses and calendars I no longer use. It's not a make or break issue, more of just wanting to clean them out. I am running Lion on a MacBook Pro. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
    JJ

This is all part of the risk of making yourself a public figure.
Your e-mail address is necessary in your feed file so Apple can communicate with you if needed. Since Apple is not going to manually process that address to remove any bot-blocking characters, you need to keep it "real".
Using a gmail or other somewhat independant address can help limit the visibility of your primary address.

  • Calendar Entries change to Device Default rather than associated e-mail address when upgraded

    Hi,
I upgraded my Curve 8330 software to the latest. Once this was done, I noticed my calendar entries are now showing Device Default in the Send To field.  When I try to sync with my Outlook Calendar (2007), it won't sync these particular entries.  In actual fact, the same entries that are in my calendar (that were sync'd prior to upgrade) contain many of the entries that were associated with the e-mail address.  So, I got duplicate entries on my device.
I tried going the route of doing a 1 way sync from my device to Outlook, but it, it wasn't recognizing the Device Default entries.  And I can't go the route of a 1 way sync from Outlook to my Device since I have since made many changes on my device.
What can I do to get the Device Default calendar entries to sync (even 1 way sync) to my Outlook calendar?  I have hundreds of entries and I don't want to have to redo all of this each time I upgrade.  (Not even sure why my calendar entries flipped like this on my Curve to give me this problem in the first place).

Hi and welcome to the forums!
    1. Take a look at options-advanced options-default services.  The CICAL (calendar) and CMIME (messaging) should the email address originally associated with your BB.
    2. Entries in the device default will not sync with Outlook.

  • Outlook Sync Apple Mail/Address Book/Calendar

Anyone knows if Syncing outlook's mail, calendar and address book with Apple Mail, Address Book and iCal is a possible task? I have tried it but one of the machines will ask if i want to erase all data and sync with current system (using iPhone).
What i want to achieve is to sync my work PC and my home MAC so i can constantly work from both locations without having to bring my laptop home. I like to get my work done at night and get everything ready for next day. So when i get to office, i can simply sync my calendar, tasks, and appointments and get to work without having to re-enter the data.

I don't know. Try downloading the certificate and installing it in your keychain. See what happens.

  • Question: best path to sync iPhone with MacBook (Entourage or Mail)

    OK-
Have been putting this off for some time. I have an iPhone that I used to sync with my WinXP laptop. I replaced the laptop with a new MacBook Pro and need to do (2) things:
1.) Migrate my contacts over to the MacBook
    2.) Determine my long-term contact/calendar/etc. sync plan
1.) Migrate: are there any good tips/threads out there for how to do this? Since my iPhone is the only place these reside currently and iTunes wants to bi-directional sync when I first connect... I'm nervous about this! What's the best way to make sure I can successfully get my contacts onto my Mac from the iPhone without losing them?
2.) Syncing: I'm currently using Entourage:Mac 2008. I've read thread after thread about problems syncing between iPhone and Entourage... I understand it to be primarily because of reliance on Address Book and iCal as intermediaries, correct? I wish I could say I could switch to those but the integration of Entourage with calendar, contacts, tasks, etc. is just too useful for my work.
So - any suggestions, pointers, even added utilities, that will help me set this up to work reliably would be much appreciated.
Also - one thought has been to use Google Apps to sync mail, contacts, and calendar. However, I'm not a fan of how GMail accepts every email address as a contact...
At any rate, I'm looking for pointers on any of these fronts. Any guidance would be great!
    Thanks,
    - JBro

I suggest using Apple's Address Book application for storing contact information. If you decide to use Entourage for email account access, contact information, and calendar events, Entourage syncs with Apple's Address Book application and with iCal for contact information and calendar events which syncs with the iPhone.
Before syncing, enter one contact in the Address Book application and one calendar event in iCal. Make these up if needed which can be deleted later. This should provide a merge prompt which you want to select. This will transfer all contact information and calendar events from your iPhone to the Address Book and iCal.
2.) Syncing: I'm currently using Entourage:Mac 2008. I've read thread after thread about problems syncing between iPhone and Entourage... I wish I could say I could switch to those but the integration of Entourage with calendar, contacts, tasks, etc. is just too useful for my work.
There can be problems with this, which relies on a sync services feature included with Entourage that syncs Entourage contact information and calendar events with the Address Book and iCal, which are used for syncing with your iPhone. So there is an additional step and sync function when using Entourage.
If you haven't transferred your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac, you should do so. iTunes includes an option to transfer content that was purchased from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for content that was purchased from the iTunes Store only. Before syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
For all other iTunes content on your PC that was not purchased from the iTunes Store, you need to transfer this content from your PC to your Mac.

  • How to set up a new apple e-mail address when already have an existing Apple ID

    Hello
Thank you for taking a look at my query - I have searched many posts but not found a specific answer to my question - so please help!
    My dilemma:
I am in effect running everything smoothly - I am already on iCloud and have an @me.com mail address.
The problem arises in that I need to change my name (due to a divorce) and hence my e-mail address -  I would like to use my maiden name for obvious reasons!
    So what have I tried?:
I have set up a new Apple ID using a 'hotmail' address, as you need an existing address to set an ID, but would actually like a new 'apple' address. How do I do this? Since I have registered all my devices (iMac, iPad 3 and iPhone 3GS) with iCloud already using my married name ID it seems I am unable to get another appleID? Is this true? Is there a way around this?
    Concerns:
I have many communications with lawyers and ex and various other things I would like to keep on my existing apple ID/mail account (and also itunes etc) I still need to be able to access this information. I am happy to keep this  apple ID active at the same time as having the new ID if this is possible on all the same devices? Currently however I do not know how to do this, i.e. run two mail accounts through iCloud OR ideally transfer my info to the new ID - however from reading around I believe this latter (logical) option may be impossible?
    So:
... I need a knight (or maiden) in  shining armour to help me understand my options, answer the Q's above and provide the steps I have to follow to do this as I am no IT guru! And as there are many similar Qs without a clear answer I'm sure you will gain lots of points!
    Thanking you kindly in advance!
PS. Apple if you are reading this please can you do something about this situation as there seem to be many questions around this issue. Unfortunately divorce and name changes are a frequent part of life these days and it would be good if you can accommodate this!

OK, so I realised I was still within my 90days of being able to get support from Apple due to recent iPad3 purchase.
So between what I have gleaned from this forum and what I have learnt from the support call here I hope is a comprehensive one stop shop  answer to the question... "How do I get another Apple e-mail address ?" It's not straight forward but bear with me as you will get a result (also if anyone with IT prowess can offer further advice or clarification please do reply to this so we keep all info in the same place)... right -  we shall begin:
First a few points to bear in mind/wise words that I wish I was aware of before:
You preferably do not want more than one Apple ID so that syncing etc is straight forward. SO create an e-mail address that you will be happy to have no matter what, whether you are married/divorced (and yes it unfortunately could happen...) etc...
    So...
    1. First go to www.myinfo.apple.com, change your country as required and click on manage your account. Log-in. Should go straight to your Name, ID and e-mail tab.
    2. OK you are now presented with one of two scenarios....
    a) If your AppleID and primary e-mail address  is a me.com (or mac.com) then you are unlikely to have an edit option next to this line - follow point 3. Another ID has to be generated, and unfortunately (as Winston Churchill above rightly pointed out, the problem that you will have on the whole is that any purchases you make from the iTunes Store under your previous account, will be inaccessible on many of your devices. - IF however all you wanted is a new e-mail address and you are happy to keep running your old ID at the same time - there is a way around this .... read on to point 3)
    b) If your AppleID and primary e-mail address is not a me.com (or mac.com) then - follow point 4. This is the better option to have, hop skip and jump with glee as you will in effect have the same ID account and syncing will not be an issue. But note that your new ID will not be editable going forward so head my words of wisdom above.
NB. If you already have more than one ID and one of the 'Apple ID and primary e-mail' is editable i.e. 2b) then choose this option to change as it is simpiler to manage.
    3. OK lots of steps here and explanations:
    i) You need to create another Apple ID - there are two ways of doing this a) if you go to your iphone or ipad settings > iCloud > delete your account (Don't worry you are effectively only signing out and not deleting) (you'll be given an option what to do with your contacts) > The page will then give you an option to create a new Apple ID.... follow the steps, and you will get a new me.com  AppleID and primary e-mail address.
    b) If you do not have an iphone or ipad - use your computer: Go to sytem preferences > icloud > sign out of account (again you will be given an option to keep contacts on the computer etc. do what is appropriate for you). An iCloud window  should then pop up - and there is an option to 'Create an Apple ID'... follow the steps, in 2nd step (after date of birth input)  go for the free iCloud  option and do not use an existing e-mail address (e.g. hotmail or gmail)... as it then gets more complicated (I did go down this route as I didn't know any better - so I can explain if you wish to know - just ask) - continue with the steps and you will get a new me.com AppleID and primary e-mail address.
ii) Now assuming you have an itunes account and other devices... and you will want to sync everything across devices... then ensure you log back into your OLD account and use this as your main  account on all devices. This will keep all things synced between devices with no problems.
iii) To get your new e-mail account active go to all your devices and computer and just add the new me.com address as another account:
    a) on iphone and ipad: settings > mail, contacts, calendars > "add account"
    b) on computer assuming you use mail: Mail>preferences>account information> hit the '+' under the left hand account box and fill in the details... You will then effectively have two mail boxes running in mail - your previous and new one. What I have noticed is that you can drag and drop (which will copy) mailboxes you created in your old account into your new account - which is great as you can keep the stored messages to hand and effectively you can taper down use of the old account (or use as you wish) over time and eventually not notice the old account is in the background.
Hey presto you have a new e-mail address AND your devices are syncing itunes, photostream etc...
    4) So - much better option....
    i) create a new Apple ID as per point 3i) above.
ii) go back to www.myinfo.apple.com, change your country as required and click on manage your account. Log-in with old ID. Under Apple ID and primary e-mail adress - click edit and now insert your new me.com Apple ID. This will now be both your ID and primary e-mail address. This is where my knowledge (gleaned from this Forum) stops on this option - as unfortunately it did not apply to me. But I think it will get you where you want!
Hope all this info helps rather than hinders!! It definitely would have helped me
    Enjoy.
