Environment recommendations

Hey everyone. I was hoping I could get some advice from those of you who have set up a production servlet environment before with regards to what components you are using. As this is a small servlet/jsp application and I am just outta school I don't have alot of coin yet and wish to start off with the lowest cost available. so having said that I wish to place my small app on the web and was wondering which one of these combinations you would suggest or any others you know off, I am not sure of the cost of licensing fees or anything/ or if I need them etc.
win 2k server - tomcat - oracle ?
win 2k server - tomcat - sql server 2000 ?
win 2k server - tomcat - mysql ?
linux - tomcat - oracle ?
linux - tomcat - mysql?
I have a p3 600mhz which I thik may be alright as a starter.
thanks for any advice
Tas

My advice is to go with tomcat & mySQL IT will give you all the power you need for small - medium size apps.
I'll leave the OS up to you, but I think Linux is a preferred environment for hosting. It depends what you are comfortable with.
Cheers,

  • Development Environment Recommendations

For a developer considering moving fm php and Textpad as my text editor (something about 'cold dead fingers' might apply here) I'm looking for recommendations.  With me as a singleton, and no income for the stuff I do, $ is a factor.
I develop under Windows, and have zero experience to date with Adobe products.  Thanks, all

This is for developing Flex applications that use the BlazeDS server? I like using Eclipse with the FlexBuilder plugin. The Java IDE for Eclipse is free and then you would only need to pay for a FlexBuilder license to do your Flex development. I don't have to pay because I work for Adobe
I have heard that IntellijIDEA has support for Flex so that would be an option. I haven't tried it but I'm guessing IntellijIDEA is better for Java development than Eclipse but not as good as FlexBuilder for Flex development as FlexBuilder has been around longer.
    Hope that helps.

  • Music streaming drops, wifi still excellent

    Hi
I have a problem on my airport express when listening to music. Quite often when i browse in itunes on my iphone or mac, it seems like i loose my connection to stream music, this also can occur when i pause music and after a while restart. Only solution on mac is close itunes, on iphone same tricks works when ur lucky but it happens i need to restart phone.
During all of this wifi signal remains excellent ( AE is set as wireless acess point), but the fact that i need to restart itunes makes me believe WIFi is not the problem here.
Any suggestions i'm having latest version of the itunes on both devices.
    Regards, Kris

Both apps require a lot of bandwidth so you may have a problem within your local area network. Meaning you may not have enough bandwidth reaching the devices or some other situation. Because neither products are Apple products and we don't have access to your system I'd recommend contacting the developers and see if they have some specific trouble shooting  you can do. If you have a network specialist in your community (a professional not your nephew or your neighbors 15 year old son)  you also might consider calling them in.
We had a similar issue at my house which was due to the Wi-Fi signal being too far away from the device which meant we had to get a Wi-Fi extender to boost the signal. Without knowing a thing about your environment recommend getting someone that knows more about networking involved.

  • Which patchsets to apply before 11.03 - 11i upgrade?

What is the best way to find out which patchsets I need to apply before beginning the upgrade from 11.03 to 11i? We are running Government Financials and we are only on patchset D for most modules including FND. I am fairly new to apps and am getting very frustrated trying to determine how to get this information. It is my understanding that the patchset levels need to match up and you can't go a lot higher on one module without patching the others... additionally we do have several bugs especially in Purchasing.

If you experience any difficulties with Live Upgrade, please check and make sure that you have the latest Live Upgrade patches installed.
If you are running the Solaris 8 or Solaris 9 OS, you might not be able to run the Live Upgrade installer. These releases do not contain the set of patches needed to run the Java 2 runtime environment. You must have the recommended patch cluster for the Java 2 runtime environment recommended to run the Live Upgrade installer and install the packages. • Information Broadcaster Pre-Calculation Server

We just upgraded to version 3.5. I have a need to broadcast workbooks to several users. I setup a test precaluation server on my PC. I am not sure exactly what the function of these server. Are the workbooks actualy stored on this "server" or the BW Server. Does anyone know what functions the pre caluation server does. Also is there any suggestion of where folks locate this in their production landscape. It seem to only run on a windows environment. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Steve,
To calculate an excel workbook, BEx analyzer is launched and reports are run.  This is done on the pre-calculation server.  The pre-calculation service interacts with the desktop, launches analyser, runs the reports, saves the excel workbook on the server which is then broadcasted.
For a production environment, recommend running this on either a dedicated windows based PC or a shared server.  It should be up at all times otherwise the boradcast will fail.

2-There is a version for 64bits system of the Oracle FailSafe?
2-Failsafe and failsafe manager works under Windows 2008 Enterprise r2 64bits?
    Thanks for all the answer.

1-Can be installed Oracle FailSafe on a Oracle standard edition? or is complete necessary use Oracle Enterprise Edition? 11G.Oracle Fail Safe environment recommends installing database software on a two-node cluster, so it is possible with 11G

  • ROLAND SR JV patch names !!

    Hi all,
New to Logic after using DP/PT for years, really like what I see but..it doesn't come with patch names for most synths ??? REALLY ??
I'm looking for patch names for the basic JV-2080, plus the SR-JV cards WORLD, COUNTRY, POP, HOUSE and ORCHESTRA.
Before you mention Cherry Picker, it doesn't run on my Mac (10.5.8) !
HELP ! This was such a given in DP that I admit I'm a little spoiled..
Many thanks for your any help !!
    Benny.

    OK Guys, here you go:
    https://www.yousendit.com/download/YkxKVWRoZ1BnYU5jR0E9PQ
This is an old Logic file that contains about 200 "multi instruments" with patch names & the appropriate bank change messages. It will take a little work on your part to get these things into your own environments, and there are some basic instructions in the song file itself (should come up in the marker text window).
You can either open this file then copy your needed instrument(s) and paste them into your own template Environment (recommended) - or open each multi's patch list and copy the actual text.
If you go the recommended route, you may need to change the MIDI bank numbers to match your device's card slots if you're using Roland expansion cards.
Hope this helps - this document covers most popular MIDI gear from the glory days

  • Applying recommended patch bundles to a Data Guard environment.

I've learned that there are 3 recommended patch bundles for 10.2.0.4 Data Guard, as follows:
7937113 - 10.2.0.4 Data Guard Logical Recommended Patch Bundle #1
7936993 - 10.2.0.4 Data Guard Physical Recommended Patch Bundle #1
7936793 - 10.2.0.4 Data Guard Broker Recommended Patch Bundle #1
My question is this...should I apply the logical and physical patch bundles to the primary database as well?
    Thanks,
    Michael Anderson
OCP - Bank of the West

That's what I suspected. Now, in my environment, I could never conceive of a situation where I would switch roles between the primary and the logical standby database, so I would only apply the DG physical patch bundle to the primary database but not the DG Logical patch bundle. Agree?

  • Is auto-bw recommended in MPLS TE environment?

    Hi Sir,
Is automatic bandwidth adjustment recommended in MPLS TE environment? The configuration of a primary TE tunnel is as follows:
    interface Tunnel1
    load-interval 30
    tunnel mpls traffic-eng auto-bw
    Thank you.
    B.Rgds,
    Lim TS

It depends on your requirement. And how important is the primary path BW for you.
As the traffic already using the backup path as primary may be depleted of BW.
Since these are all knobs or features, there is nothing like only this or that is recommended. you will need to study and baseine your BW requirements and then go ahead with unlimited, auto or fixed.

  • Recommended DNS zone replication scope for single domain environment

Hi, in my company we have domain/forest functional level Windows Server 2008 R2 - there is only one domain. AD DS is installed on 5 servers -
AD integrated DNS zone is used.
I noticed today that on both forward lookup DNS zones, _msdcs.internaldomain.com
& internaldomain.com, zone replication scope was set to
All DNS servers in this domain and also for one reverse lookup zone. I changed this setting for all these zones to
All domain controllers in this domain but later (10-15 mins at most) I reverted these settings back to
All DNS servers in this domain.
Which zone replication scope for mentioned zones is recommended keeping in mind this is single domain environment? Also could I do any harm to DNS and AD in all when I changed zone replication scope and later reverting it back for these zones? How to check
that dns related informations (zones) are located where they should be in Active Directory and that there is no any garbage in other locations (partitions) in AD database.

    Hi,
All DNS servers in this domain : Replicates zone data to all Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 domain controllers running the DNS Server service in the Active Directory domain. This option replicates zone data
to the DomainDNSZone partition. It is the default setting for DNS zone replication in Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.

  • Recommend development environment for Adobe Drive 4

Looking at what is needed for Adobe Drive 4 and I wonder what the recommended development environment is.
    Would this suffice:
    Adobe Drive 4 SDK
    OSX 10.7
    Eclipse Juno 4.2 64Bit
    JDK 1.6 64bit
Or should I be looking at 32bit versions?
And should I follow what was in the documentation which was older version, 3.6 of Eclipse for instance?

Please take 32 bit application to set up you dev environment, especially, make sure JDK 1.6 32 bit is used.
    Regarding Eclipse, 3.6 is recommended

  • Can you recommend a good source for learning about the Environment

Rather than post a bunch of obviously uninformed thread topics, I would really appreciate some recommendation of some books, DVDs, online vids, etc.
I've figured out and executed some of the basics such as playing the arpeggiator and the midi delay, and recording the output of the arpeggiator/delay to a track, but, obviously, there's a whole lot more (understatement of the year so far?)
The environment seems to be a snakepit of danger - don't want to screw up any projects.
Any recs would be greatly appreciated.

  • Recommended SCCM 2012 R2 Minimum Hardware Requirements For Small Environment?

We plan to deploy SCCM 2012 R2  CU1 and SQL 2012 SP2 for the following purposes and want to use the minimum hardware to do the job reliably:
Keep reports on hardware and software inventory and monitor performance and events on clients and servers.
Deploy operating systems with MDT integration.
Install and uninstall applications on clients on the local LAN (as replacement for GPO software installation during reboots) as well remote laptops on the Internet (we do not have Direct Access do not have Direct Access and do not want to depend on remote
laptops needing to being logged into VPN to reach them).
Install Windows Updates and third party patches and updates (Adobe/Java updates etc.) on local LAN as well as to remote laptops on the Internet.
We only have about 500 clients.  80 percent are on the local LAN all in one building and the rest are laptops for people working on the road and at home who only sporadically connect to VPN.
Can we do it all on one server or will we need a separate server for LAN clients and a different server in the DMZ to reach remote clients?
Will we need separate disks for OS, SCCM and SQL with such a small environment or can it be all on a single physical disk or VM VHD?
Is 8GB RAM, 1 CPU and 500GB disk space enough for this (assuming 50 GB WSUS database and similar amount is OS deployment space for MDT)?

It will work, no doubt. My point was that if you want fast and responsive system, focus on the disk speed. You're good to go with single server, all in the same box.
I understand that it will "work" because I just installed SCCM 2012R2 and SQL 2012 CU10 in a lab in a VM using a single VHD and it is working fine with zero clients.
Should it still work with reasonable performance on a fast hard drive (10-15K drive or SSD) with 500 clients without having to break it out into separate dedicated disks for OS, page file, SCCM, SQL and logs?
