ENVY 14 USB Not Powered when computer asleep

I recently had to change hard drives on my ENVY14. After reinstalling the drivers off the HP website, I am no longer able to get power to the USB ports when the computer is off or in standby mode(computer is on AC power). This no longer allows me to charge devices via usb or wake the computer from sleep using the mouse. There doesnt seem to be any bios option for this. And Ive tried different power settings and looked at the options for the USB hub within Device Manager. Any input would be appreciated.

@lagrit1023 ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  What you may have happening here is a problem with the power regulation on the motherboard or an issue with not enough amps  from the power supply.
Can you try the power supply on another notebook or have someplace you can take it to be checked?
The only other way to check this if you have already done the battery checks and so on is to get the system sent in for repair.  For this you will have to contact HP phone support.

thunderbolt ethernet not working when computer wake up from sleep.
it will not happen in Mountain loin.

I had this problem on SL and on Lion as well, and it occures for WiFi and Ethernet connections.
In fact the internet connection was not broken as I could ping the destination usin the IP (not DNS name).
In this case the problem was related to mDNSResponder task which handles all dns queries.
It was the most frequent problem in my day to day work with SL and now Lion. It was never fixed by any patch from Apple. I tried almost all voodoo including fresh install, all possible config changes - no solution.
The only version with no problems related to network was 10.5.8. All the other versions had issues of different kind (WiFi instability (lost signal), DNS problems (for wireless and wired connection) sometimes associated with machine sleep and wake up and sometimes with no reason.
QUESTION: Is your problem independent of the access point / router you connect to.
I must say networking was (and still is) the weakest part, besides the other OS X weaknesses I experienced during 4 years of OS X usage.
No problems in the same network with Linux or Windows beeing ran natively on my iMac So hardware is OK.
Software is of poor quality. Not much more to say in this matter.

  • Usb not recognized when windows7 installed on mac book pro retina

    Hi,
I am trying to install windows 7 to mac book pro - retina display with mavericks.
I managed to come to the point where windows installed and starts and I need to install the boot camp on the windows. I am having problems at this stage. Windows does not recognize the usb drives and i cant install the boot camp or connect to the internet, nothing. I restarted the machine several times but still no luck.
When i open it in mac, i can access the usb drive. When switched back to windows there is no usb.
    Can someone please advise?

The USB thumb drive itself is either USB 2 or 3. It's a hardware thing.  Not sure how to tell what type it is through a computer, but some usually the packaging indicates which it is.  Sometimes the drive itself will have it written on it somewhere. You will need to delete the bootcamp partition in OSX using the bootcamp assistant and redo the entire process using a USB 2 thumb drive. After that the process worked as indicated in the boot camp instructions. The bootcamp drivers were automatically installed after windows rebooted itself.
I am not 100% sure that this was the issue, but when I went from using a thumb that I knew was usb 3 to one that I was sure was not, it all of a sudden worked.  It could have also been that it just did not like the usb 3 drive I tried to use the first few times as it was a generic drive from Microcenter.

  • USB not powering external drive on new macbook pro

My new macbook pro retina display is not powering an external 750GB GDrive moblie. Is anyone having this problem?

It seems as if a number of people are having problems with the USB 3.0 ports on the 2012 MBP's - particularly when it comes to external storage devices.
As you  don't have a FW800 port (or, yet, an adapter) the best thing you can do is either return it to your local Apple Store and see if they know of a 'fix' (which I doubt - someone would have posted that by now), whether it's only occurring with some MBP models, and you can always file a bug report with Apple: https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/wa/signIn - you must sign in with your Apple ID.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there have been quite a few people posting here with the same problem.
    Good luck,

  • Hp envy 23 not powering up

Envy 23 touch smart not powering up. There is a power supply like a laptop but larger due to higher power. With the plug disconnected from the pc i switch the power supply on. The power supply works as the little green led illuminates but as soon as I plug the power lead into the PC the led goes out. I think there must be a problem with the main pcb within the PC but not quite sure. Any ideas?

Hi Bob, Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers. Unplug the "brick" power supply.  Hold down the PC's power on button for 60 seconds. Plug the power supply back into the PC and then to the electrical outlet. Make sure that the plug is tight into the outlet. Now try to power up. Check your warranty status here.  If you Pc is still covered by warranty then contact HP Support. HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

  • MacBook Pro will not charge when Computer is on. Can only charge when shut down, MacBook Pro will not charge when Computer is on. Can only charge when shut down

Hi can anyone help me? My MacBook Pro cannot charge at all (keeps showing not charging or not connected) when i am using it. only when i shut it down or let it sleep then wil it begin to charge normally. Does anyone know what to do??

You could always try a SMC reset -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 - but I don't believe that will solve your problem.
If I were you, I would take the machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them diagnose the problem. It could be something very simple or it may be something more complex within the power management system.
    Good luck,

  • Audio Driver does not load when computer is powered up

I have a HP Pavillion Elite Model 9600t desktop PC that I bought from the HP on-line site in June of 2009.  This system is running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit edition.
No audio card, using the mother board on board audio with powered HP speakers connected to the Green connector on the mother board.
    Problem:
When the system is initially powered up, it boots ok, but when the desktop is displayed I get the "No Audio Device is Installed" error message displayed on the lower tolbar speaker ikon.
I can then load the "Realtek High Definition Audio" driver using the  recovery manager and restart the system with powering down, and everything will then work ok, untill the system is powered off, then the problem repeats the next time the system is powered up.
The sound playback window under the control panel shows the speakers as  "Realtek High Definition Audio Working, but the "Set Default" button at the bottom of the window is greyed out and not functional.
    Any guidance would be appreciated

  • Thunderbolt drive ejects when computer asleep

This is an issue with a 3.5 GHz Core i7 iMac running 10.9.4 and a Lacie 5 disc Thunderbolt external with a RAID 0 (3x 2TB drives) and a RAID 1 (2x mirrored 2TB drives).
At least once a week, and sometimes more, I wake my computer from sleep to discover that it has ejected the Lacie drive and all of its RAIDs. I have yet to discover a commonality between instances when this occurs.
After logging in, if I launch Disk Utility to attempt to remount the drive, it beachballs and hangs and has to be force quitted. This happens every time that the Lacie drives have been unmounted during sleep. Looking in System Information, however, it does see that the drive is there.
Powering down the drive and restarting it also fails to remount it.
Unplugging it (loathe as I am to do so at the risk of data corruption if there is data being transferred), likewise does not remount it.
Only restarting the computer appears to remount the drive and its RAIDs. However, restart also hangs and the computer has to be force shut down in order to restart.
Running Disk Utility while the drives are mounted passes all of the drives, and the Lacie RAID Monitor likewise shows all the drives as healthy.
Additionally, in Energy Saver, I have "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" unchecked as I understood from Lacie tech support that that could be an issue but it hasn't resolved the noted behavior.
Suspect entries in Console, logged in the middle of the night while the computer was asleep on the last instance of the drive unmount is the following kernel log and then a subsequent fsevent attempt to find the drives two hours later:

Needless to say this is driving (no pun intended) around the bend! Anyone with similar issues or ideas for resolution with their Lacie (or non-Lacie) thunderbolt or usb devices?

    Hi Richard,
    A somewhat similar issue for me, on a 2013 Mac Pro (3.5GHz 6-Core Xeon E5) with my 3-day old G-RAID with Thunderbolt 4TB (RAID 0, 2x2TB).
The main difference in my case is that the computer is not going asleep...one slice of the raid would go offline while I was using the computer, but not particularly that drive. This has happened 3 times in 2 days. The drive icon disappears from the desktop and I get the popup warning me that the drive was not ejected properly.
Power cycling the drive for a *short* period of time does not correct it; the drive does not come back online. Disk Utility can see the RAID set and says one stripe is "missing" and hence the set is "offline".
Most recently, disk utility then beach balled, restart could not kill it, and I forced the power off. However, the other times, if I recall, simply leaving the drive powered off for a longer time seemed to right it. It would remount, and disk utility said there was nothing wrong with it.
I too have been leaving "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" unchecked as well. (About that, every time I enter the Energy Saver panel, the console spits these out:
    2014-08-22 9:14:26.706 PM System Preferences[896]: **** ERROR: *** -[ESGraphicsOptionsController _coreGetGraphicsStateForSelector:]: AGCGetMuxState() failed
    2014-08-22 9:14:26.706 PM System Preferences[896]: **** ERROR: *** -[ESGraphicsOptionsController _coreGetGraphicsStateForSelector:]: AGCGetMuxState() failed
    2014-08-22 9:14:26.707 PM System Preferences[896]: **** ERROR: *** -[ESGraphicsOptionsController _coreGetGraphicsStateForSelector:]: AGCGetMuxState() failed
Makes me wonder if the settings are really taking hold )
Console entries around one of the offline-drive incidents are as follows (I don't think the first 3 or the last one are related):

Since in my case it only seemed to affect one stripe of the RAID set, I am inclined to think it is a hardware problem, but I'm no expert. I've been hoping for it to fail again this evening, so I can collect some more evidence and then just exchange it for another. But so far, it's been working like a trooper.

  • Keep USB ports powered when PC off

    Hi,
I got my first iMac a few days ago and am missing a feature that my PC had. I have a razor mamba wireless mouse that charges in its own dock via USB. I would also like to charge my iPhone 4 from my iMacs USB ports over night. But when I turn off my iMac the USB ports power down, unlike my PC where the USB ports would remain active and charge my mouse over night.
Is there any way I can charge my USB components overnight without leaving the iMac on?

    Hi AlmightySi

  • High pitched whine from netbook when power is plugged in. Does not charge when computer is on.

I have a specific power / charging issue On HP Mini Netbook 210-1077CA. Windows 7 starter ( I think)
    With the computer OFF ...
When I plug in the power it gives a high pitched whine. Red battery light is on, showing it is charging. (computer is off.)
To test the computer I have turned in on after charging for a little while and the % of charge is increasing. Showing that it is charging properly.
    HOWEVER,
    With the computer ON
The battery light turns white and does not stay on, but flashes periodically. Its not a constant flash but a pause of several seconds between a series of flashes.  The manual indicates a Flashing Battery light seems to indicate either going into a sleep mode because there is not enough battery power (however my power is at 14% normally this happens I think at 10%) OR as the manual indicates there is a problem with the battery.
I removed battery, removed power plug and then pushed power button holding for 15 seconds.  No change in behaviour.
I also tried to boot the computer with just the power plug in and no battery. But it would not turn on. I don't know if that is normal or not?? Interestingly the White battery light, while trying to turn the computer on without the battery stayed white no flash.  (but did not turn on either as I mentioned.)
I read a few posts that say that the whining are Capacitors doing some sort of harmonics. Although I have never heard this sound before.
Im sure that this problem is not fans or heat sinks etc. Since in only happens when the computer is off  and charging. In my opinion its definitely electrical. The sound seems to be coming from the center of the netbook or the battery area..
    So my conclusion is ...
    1. Battery has problem and needs to be replace,
    2. Maybe the AC adapter is bad, since it doesnt boot w/out battery (if it is suppose to ??)  Also since it seems when I turn it on it goes from Red charging to white flashing as soon as it starts to boot. Could it be the AC adapter is not giving out enough power to charge and to boot at the same time.
Anyway can anyone help me on this issue. Im not sure whether to start by getting a new AC adapter or new battery. I would not like to buy new both and just throw money at it.
    Maybe it is not either???
    You help would be appreciated.
    Regards.

    I have resolved the problem.
I replaced the AC adapter. Everying works find now. I tested runing the computer without the battery, and it works. So I might add that a possible test for an adapter that is not functioning properly is to try running it w/out the battery. If it does not run its possible that the ac adapter does not work.
    Thanks.

  • Is USB port powered when device is ejected?

I have several battery-powered USB devices, such as iPod Touch, that get their battery charge from the computer. If I eject the device from the desktop, will they continue to receive a charge?

Unmounted but still connected - they will draw a charge until the battery is full.

  • USB not recognized when i plug in Zen Mi

after a lengthly install -- and seemingly successful
i plugged in the Zen Micro and i get this error message

i think it is USB 2.0 (but i am not positi've since i am not absolutely sure where to find that)
i am at a total loss
i dont know if the driver is installed since it just hung on the reinstall and eventually said "already there"
i dont know if it is the computer

Ok lets see if i can help with a few of these:
USB 2 - to determine if you usb ports are usb 2 you must go to device manager, through system properties, then look under usb and if on one of the chipsets it says enhanced then you have usb 2. like "sis pci to usb enhances host controller".
Drivers - i recomend downloading the latest driver set from the creative support website. Here and getting the new drivers installed and seeing if that hel
    ps.
Not recognised - it might be stupid but something like 9 out of 0 computer problems are solved by restarting the computer. may be worth a try, assuming the drivers are ok.
Charging - unless you have the troublesum .0.02 then your computer will need the drivers and to be recognised before it can charge from usb. so im afraid you wont get it untill it installes succesfully.
    hope that helped.

  • Firefox will not start when computer is restarted.

When I shut down or restart my computer, Firefox will not start. I will click the shortcuts, but nothing happens. There is no error message and as far as I know from searching, I have no security applications prohibiting it from starting. Once I reinstall after my computer loads, it works perfectly. How can I fix this so I don't have to reinstall Firefox daily when I turn on my computer?

Hello ShirodieSchone, try to run Firefox once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).
also, if the above doesn't work, see if you can start firefox in [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode#os=win7&browser=fx19 safe mode] by by holding down the shift key while starting Firefox.
Otherwise try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) and see if that helps.
    thank you
