I am wondering about the upcoming Windows10 update coming in a few days. the compatibility check says everythign is ok/ready. But my question is, if i do upgrade to Windows 10, will i be able to roll back to Win8.1 if i don't like Win10?I assume since it is an MS/windows update, that stuff like HP simplepass will n longer function? Also does anyone know if installing the upgrade will wipe out the "D: Recovery" partition? I now longer have the HP recovery usb i made", but i made a recovery stick thru windows 8.1, will this stick be sufficient to get back to win8.1??Also i am guessing it is safe to assume by installing the update that i will lose the "HP-specific programs/customizations"?Thanks for any advice. i am pleased with how the laptop is now, so i don't want to mess it up too bad.

Laptop doesn't wake after sleep mode after Windows 10 update

I usually lower the laptop lid when i want to put it into sleep mode; after the windows 10 update, this stopped working. I tried putting it into sleep mode from the start menue. This causes the screen to become black, but power to remain on ( I can see this from a steady light from the power button whereas sleep would have a flashing power button). The laptop's fan also increases in speed. When I try to wake the laptop, nothing happenes; I have tried to use ctrl+alt+delete, however this also does not work. I am ususally forced to resort to a manual shut down via holding the power button for a few second and restarting the laptop. I have tried updating the display adapters, restarted the laptop, and still no result. Does anyone know why this is happenning and how I can fix it?

I was having the Exact Same Issue. The reason I decided to go back to windows 8 was because since upgrading to Windows 10, when my computer goes into sleep mode, I cannot wake it up. I have to press and hold the power button to shut it done and restart. Even if I close my laptop, and reopen the lid, it wont start back up and I have to press and hold the power button and shut it down and restart. After trying to restore my HP Envy Laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 8, it got stuck in a Repair PC Loop and I could not even access the desktop, I tried the restore option to an earlier date and that failed and all the repair options also failed. The last option I had was to do a full PC Refresh, and that one worked. It took about an hour but no data was lost, and only a few of my downloaded apps were removed. An html url was left on the desktop that showed a list of all the apps that were removed. So all I did was download those back and now im back up and running Windows 8.

I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j001tx Notebook and the Touch display doesn't respond to touch after a Windows 10 update. If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system updates, try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix the problem. Here is a document that shows how to update drivers that are not working correctly with Windows 10. Here is a link to your driver page. I would try the section on Driver -Chipsets. Hi, fcullision.I have gone about performing the same tasks as you BUT I am only facing one small problem with the Password Utility; it is missing the ,dll file. However, UNLIKE you, I have performed all the updates AFTER installation of Windoww 10. Microsoft ran a compatibility check which indicated that everything about my system was 100% compatibile and I was ready for the update. Even so, the Toshiba Service Station NEVER has indicated there was a task that needed to be performed before (and now after the Windows 10 installation) or since installation. Therefore, I conclude that you CAN perform the necessary installations provided you have updated all required files so the conversion is smooth and flawless.Good luck!Bi-Ill

Laptop shut down during windows 10 update and now won't startup

Hi, My pc shut down during the Windows 10 installation 2 days ago. Since then I tried to start up the pc, without success.
I tried to press F11 during booting but the laptop just stays with a black screen saying "F11... System recovery", until I shut my computer down.If I press no key during booting, the screen remains black (with a bit of a background light) and stays like this for hours until I shut it down. I also tried to use the trick with holding the power button for 30 seconds when the laptop is turned off (I guess you call it a hard reset?), but that didn't work either. What should I do to get back to the original Windows 8.1? I would like to use my pc again and if possible, to not loose any of my old documents.

Firefox will not open and crashes after my lastest Windows 7 update on April 21st, 2015

After I completed the latest Windows 7 Update I have not been able to access Firefox. Upon opening the program I am given "Firefox has stopped working" message as the image shows. Never had any issues with Firefox before. I have Uninstalled and Reinstalled the latest Firefox version with the same results.
Please guide me to fix this problem

My library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes on a Mac. I can connect from wife's Windows laptop using iTunes for Windows but every time I do, it Updates iTunes Library. Next time I log in from my Mac it Updates iTunes Library in return. It appears I'm experiencing "Update Wars" between the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes. I would like to allow my wife to stream iTunes songs to her new laptop but I don't want any updates from this source... prefer to manage the library from my Mac and not allow Windows to do any thing other than listen to existing playlists.

Connect the PC to the library on the NAS. Wait while "updated".
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the media folder is correctly pointed at the media folder on the NAS. If not correct, close iTunes, wait a few moments, then open iTunes again.
Close iTunes on the PC. Do not open iTunes on the Mac.
Copy the library files, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork into an empty iTunes folder on the PC, for example C:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down SHIFT. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the copied .itl file, e.g. C:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
The library should now work properly on the PC, however check the setting for the media folder. If needs be correct, close iTunes and reopen.
Open iTunes on the Mac. It will update again, but that should be last time.

I downloaded the latest important update to windows vista yesterday, and since then Firefox crashes very soon after enetering the portal of any website I visit, and I want to know if the windows vista update could be doing this?

Yesterday (23rd March) my computer appeared to perform an auto update of windows vista and since then every time time use firefox it crashes shortly after entering a web portal (after about 1-5 seconds). It even crashes on the BBC news page which I always use to check stability. I have been using Firefox for years and it has just started doing this. However, I examined the programme files and actaully cannot see a windows vista update for yesterday, but I can see that there was a Firefox update, so now I'm a bit confused. Looking at the program files in more details it appears that there was a very major update of Firefox taking place including lots of file extensions. You should also know that your password recovery process doesn't work. I never got the email that is supposed to help me recover a lost password. I am really disappointed with Firefox doing this. It's costing me time and money. Can you help before I give up and go back to using Windows explorer (ugh!). I have thought of simply removing Firefox and starting again with a new download but that might not solve the probelm and I will lose my bookmarks.

I have an update to my message posted yesterday regarding Firefox crash after vista update. Today it got worse when Firefox wouldn't open at all and Windows explorer also stopped working. Curiously, email was still working, and when I checked another (little used) account on the same PC, I got a perfect connection with Firefox and Explorer. I had to conclude that the latest updates of Vista have interacted with some application only found in my main account on the PC. I tried opening Firefox in its safe mode and I tried opening explorer without Plug ins, but neither worked. Finally I decided the only answer was to do a system restore and wind back the windows software to where it was before the problem. I now have Firefox and explorer restored to working order, but I still don't understand why, because I got a message saying the system restore hasn't worked. Full Comprehension of the cause is beyond my capability, but through trial and error as described above I seem to have fixed it. The suspect vista updates are KB2505189 , and KB2524375.

Java program are limited as Administrator after windows 7 update

I have updated the windows 7.
The java program(packaged by InstallAnywhere 2008 Enterprise) can be executed when I login the system as ordinary user.
but the error will occur when I execute the java program as Administrator,please refer to the below error information.

CD/DVD completely disappears after Windows XP updates

I had this happen twice now, on my 3 year old Toshiba Satellite P35-s605.
The internal CD/DVD drive works fine, then all of a sudden, it completely disappears from the system. Discs do not play, and the drive does not show up in Explorer.
Likewise, it's the same with my external USB CD/DVD drive; it works fine, then it no longer shows up even though the USB "boing" indicates that the computer reads that a device has been connected.
The last time it happened, I reinstalled the original recovery disk. That seemed to correct the problem. It disappeared again after a Windows XP update (I have not yet added any software besides the OS).
Has anyone had this problem, and has anyone solved it?

I have never heard of a Windows Update causing that sort of problem. It sounds like hardware.
Have you ever tried this fix?

Satellite A205-S4607 doesn't start after windows vista update

I was installing windows vista updates, but the battery was low and the computer turned off, then, the computer doesn´t start, only the hard disc led is light but the screen is black, please can you help me?

Thanks for your advice, but the problem is very complicate, the computer doesn't boot up, only the led te HD is ligthing, I removed the HD and the memory but doesn't work, I've read that the problem could be the bios, and the recomendation is remove the battery of the board to reset the bios, but I think it is very dangerous.

T61 no sound after Windows (Vista) update (?)

I have purchased a T61 in December 2007. The sound has always been low and now i have no sound at all. I cannot hear files locally or on the Net -- or any of the computer sounds.
i realize now that it has happened after a Windows (Vista) update. I have done every step but 6.
I have Speakers (SoundMax Integrated Digital HD Audio). The sound keeps defaulting to to Line 2 Muv Enum (Virtual Cable).

Windows 7 Update Error 66A

I have tried several times to install a Windows 7 update but it always fails with an error 66A. Can anyone provide a solution?

I don't know if this is in anyway relevant to the problem here but:-
If a windows update has failed and it is reported in control panel>windows update in the update history then clicking on troubleshooting problems opens a help window with the first entry being "click to open windows update troubleshooter". This program must "clean up" something and the update often then installs. I also don't know if the failed update has to be reported in the history for the program to clean it up.
