Envy 17t J000 - Maximum Hard Drive Size and speed

I going to place a 2nd hard drive in the open space in my Envy 17t-j000.
The Maintenance and Service Guide states;
Hard drives Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives in 9.5-mm (.37-in) and 7.0-mm (.28-in) thicknesses (all hard drives use the same bracket)
Customer-accessible
Serial ATA
Supports the following hard drives:
● 1-TB 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm
● 750-GB 5400-rpm 9.5-mm
● 500-GB 5400-rpm 9.5-mm and 7.0-mm
Dual hard-drive configurations:
● 2TB: (1-TB 5400-rpm x 2)
● 1500GB: (750-GB 5400-rpm x 2)
This seems to mean that I cannot use a single 2 TB 2nd drive and cannot use a 7200 RPM drive.
Is this correct? Doesthe bios not allow a larger than a 1 TB drive or the 7200 RPM?
CouldI simply partition the 2nd drive into 2 - 1TB?
Or does the manual simply mean that the standard HP unit is not supplied with larger than these sizes and I could actually use a 2 TB in the 2nd bay?
This question was solved.
View Solution.

It is the latter....the list just says what HP has to sell: it does not describe a system limitation. However, I do not believe the market yet offers a 2 TB drive that will fit in the space available. The 2 TB 2.5 inch SATA drives I have seen are too thick. 7200 rpm or hybrid or SSD; not a problem.
To add a second drive you will need a second hard drive caddy and cable.

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009) - Maximum internal hard drive size and speed?

What is the maximum size of hard drive and speed for an internal hard drive to my Macbook Pro (13 inch, Mid 2009), please?
I bought myself a Technics 1TB, 7200 rpm internal hardrive. Made a clone successfully in Super Duper.
It fits, but It is not available for starting up my Macbook Pro. Not available in System Prefs, but visible and grey in Disc Utility.
Although it starts up my Mac Pro just fine.. but not my Macbook Pro.
Is there a limit of hard drive specifics?
What is the maximum size of hard drive and speed for an internal hard drive to my Macbook Pro (13 inch, Mid 2009), please?

    Thanks for the reply
    I cloned the Technics HDD ( 2,5" HGST Travelstar 7K1000 - 1 TB : HTS721010A9E630) from the MBP.
I tried to boot it up with my Technincs ( 2,5" HGST Travelstar 7K1000 - 1 TB : HTS721010A9E630) installed in my MBP (as my internal hard drive).

  • Maximum disc drive size and speed?

I want to install new enterprise quality boot drives in two MacPro towers before I upgrade to Lion because my Snow Leopard installs have been buggy and unstable.  The current drives offer 2 & 3 TB capacity, 6.0Gb/s interfaces and 64 MB Cache.  I don't know the difference between SATA I and SATA II.  Nor do I know how much the original MacPro (2006) and the 2nd generation (early 2008) can handle.  Will the new drives simply perform at the maximum capability of the internal bus?

Yes, Enterprise drives both typically carry a longer warranty and are actually individually tested. Consumer drives are left to the buyers to do the quality control testing, in my opinion a travesty. But one we can handle by carefully testing all drives before putting them into production.
Mechanically a Enterprise drive is the same as a desktop drive. So MTBF is a factor of quality control and just plain warranty dollars instead of actual life span. They charge more for drives that have a higher warranty and MTBF rating - mostly it comes down to difference in marketing.
Big difference with an Enterprise drive is it has firmware features and functions designed for a multiuser server environment. That means the drive is optimized to enhance multi user access, a stacked command kind of load that no desktop computer has to typically duplicate.
You won't have many issues running standard issue Enterprise drives inside a MacPro. The Intel chipset pretty much ignores all those fancy server features and seems to be capable of handling most of them without problems. Lots of problems attaching Enterprise drives to eternal hosts though, from Firewire to USB to eSATA and even hardware RAID controllers, those features get in the way as often as not.
As long as the Enterprise drives do not have specific firmware for some arcane OEM you should be fine. Personally, I just stick with simpler cheaper desktop drives. I can move them around to external storage as well without having compatibility issues.

  • What is the maximum hard drive size can I install into my MacBook Pro 15 "late 2008 ?

Hello community, I play with the thought in my MacBook Pro 15 "late 2008 equipped with an SSD hard drive. What is the maximum hard drive size can I install? Thank you in advance

The largest 2.5" SATA HDDs of 9.5 mm thickness that I am aware of are 1 TB in capacity.  There is a 12.5 mm thick  HDD that will fit some MBPs.  But I have not seen any of larger capacity.
Are there now 2 TB HDDs available for MBPs?    If so, I am interested.
    Ciao.
Both OWC and Crucial have SSDs of about 1 TB capacity.

  • UCS C series maximum hard drive size

Looking for info on the maximum hard drive size support on teh UCS C series.  I have a C200M2 that I added a 4TB drive, I have updated the server to the latest firmware and BIOS however the server shows the drive size is 2TB.

Hi!  and welcome to the community mate!
Here is the table that shows the supported disk's PID for the C200 server:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/c200m2_sff_specsheet.pdf
If you successfully installed ONE HDD of 4GB and made it work, you were lucky cause I don't see any disk with that size, I have not even seen a disk of that size for UCS yet.
I am wondering if perhaps you installed 4 disks of 1TB and configured them in RAID 1 which would explain the reason for the size to go down to half of the capacity of the array as RAID 1 is a mirror.
Let me know if I misunderstood you.

  • Maximum hard drive size for 350 MHz slot loading?

    Hello,
What is the maximum hard drive size for a 350 MHz slot loading imac?
I am aware of a 128 GB limit on imacs. Does the 128 GB hard drive limit apply to all imac CRTs or just the earlier models?
Here are the specs of my imac:
    Blueberry 350 MHz
    Slot loading CD-ROM drive,
    6 GB hard drive
Is the maximum hard drive size limit of 127GB apply to this particular model?
    Thanks

Yes, the last CRT iMac was in 2001. The first machines with built-in greater than 127 GB support were released in June 2002, as this article explains:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86178
So all CRT iMacs have that limiation.

The 8 GB limit is explained here:

  • Maximum hard drive size for upgrading a dv6375ea?

    Hello to all,
My hard drive began to make noises and since it is past warranty, I will upgrade it. When I had bought the laptop I had chatted with a HP personnel on these support pages, and he/she had told me that the maximum size that the bios allowed was 120 gb. That is the original hard drive size!
Has anyone upgraded their hard drive or does anybody know of a technical value that I should try?
    Thanks for your time,

You can install as large a drive as you can find as long as it is SATA and 2.5" wide and 9.5 mm thick. SATA drives have no BIOS size limit. However, some have occasionally reported issues with 500 gig drives and 7200 rpm drives. I can therefore tell you with 100% certainty you can install a 320 gig 5400 rpm drive in your laptop. My favorite website for laptop hard drives is newegg.com. Don't buy from HP parts; it will cost way too much. You should be able to find the drive I mention for around $80 and laptop drives are also sold at Best Buy, Frys and similar stores.

  • What is the maximum hard drive size for Imac 8,2, what is the maximum hard drive size for Imac 8,2

Am wondering what is the maximum hard drive one can put into this computer. I think it's a 3TB but I read somewhere the drive needs a jumper to bring it back to 3mb level cache. Can anyone confirm these details please? I currently have a 320GB drive installed.

    Hi Robbie,
I found no iMac 8,2, do you mean iMac 8,1 ???
There is no practical limit to the size, the biggest ones made will work fine... assuming the all important SATA 3 Gb/s speed, WD drives use a jumper on pins 5&6 to slow it from 6 Gb/s to 3 Gb/s.
    Some drives do it automatically...

And some do not step down properly at all.

  • Maximum Hard Drive Size

I have the 1.5 GHZ PowerBook G4 17". I can't seem to find any guidance elsewhere on the 'net or on the Apple site on this question:
What is the largest hard drive my PowerBook will recognize?
I see a lot of people putting 160GB hard drives in with no problem but is that the maximum size my computer will recognize? I see 250GB and 320GB drives available - will my PowerBook recognize them?
Thanks for any help people can provide.
    PMac 733, 17 PBook 1.5   Mac OS X (10.3.6)

To be honest I do not know what is the largest drive that the 17" PowerBook will recognise. However it should have no problem with a 160GB drive. Seagate have a 5400RPM 160GB drive which is readily available from online resellers for around $250 (or less).
If you want to wait for larger capacity drives you may have to wait quite a few months as 200GB was only just recently announced. Therefore it will probably not be readily available for a while yet.
Whichever drive you decide upon, make sure you choose do not choose one with a Serial ATA interface as they have different connectors and will be incompatible. The interface you need is Ultra ATA.

  • What is the maximum Hard Drive size that a G3 B/W will recognize

I have a Disk Utility failed Hard Drive in my B/W G3 Power Mac. The Disk Utility was unable to repair it so I guess I will be in the market to purchase a new one. Is there a maximum size hard Drive that a G3 will recognize? I had an 80 GB drive before.

The Disk Utility was unable to repair it so I guess I will be in the market to purchase a new one.
If your only problem was that Disk Utility was unable to repair it, that means the software pointers in the Directory are messed up pretty bad. That does NOT mean the Drive has failed, and does NOT mean it needs to be replaced. You have two options:
    A) Get a better Disk repair Tool, such as Disk Warrior to apply to the problem. Your directory and all your data may still be saveable. Do NOT install any utilities onto the drive you are trying to save. Run them from a CD or another Drive, if possible.
    B) copy what files you can to another drive and reinitialize your Drive. CAUTION: This will erase everything on the Drive. If you choose this path, I recommend using the Write Zeros option at this point. It will take hours, plan accordingly. It will take many more hours to re-install the Mac OS and your Applications.
If you do not have another Drive, and want to get a bigger one, that is fine, but you should do so with the understanding that your old one may not be dead.

  • Maximum hard drive size for HP HPE-180t

Is there a way to have the entire space of a 4TB SATA III (6Gb/s) drive show up in Windows 7 x64 running on an HPE 180t?  I installed one such hard drive on my HPE-180t, and the BIOS only saw 2TB of space, and the drive did not show up in Windows.  HP Diagnostics tools (run before Windows starts) reported the following error "communication with device failed".   The motherboard and bios info is shown below.  SATA mode is set to RAID.   The hard drive itself passes all the SMART tests in BIOS and seems to function fine.
There are two separate problems.   The communication error above, which needs to be solved first, and the "only 2TB showing in BIOS" problem.   Can the 2TB problem be addressed with another BIOS on this motherboard or some BIOS setting on the existing BIOS?  If so, what is the BIOS and/or settings?
I looked through HP online support today (including google searches on the HP support forums) and did not see the answer to these questions/problems.

  • Maximum hard drive size for HP Pavilion Elite e2980t? I put in a 3TB, but it shows up as 800GB

I installed a 3TB drive, but it shows up in the bios as 800GB. What is the maximum supported size?
I suspect that the HP Pavilion Elite e2980t cannot accept more than an 800 GB drive. This is consistent with the product selection choices that are available to purchasers.
    Can anyone confirm?
Are there a set of drivers I can install that would work around this limitation?

    Hi:
If you are using the drive as a boot drive, your PC probably does not have a UEFI BIOS, so it can't recognize all 3 TB.
If you are using it as a data drive, go into the Windows disk management tool, format the drive GPT, and windows should be able to see and use all 3 TB.
Please see this white paper regarding UEFI & GPT.
While this applies to business desktops it is also relevant to consumer desktops as well.

  • HP Envy 17-1050ea - Second hard drive size?

    Hello
I've recently bought a refurbished HP Envy 17-1050ea and want to add a hard drive to the second drive bay. Online forums and information suggested that I required a 2.5" drive. So, I've bought a 1 TB drive and a suitable drive bay caddy, opened up my laptop and found that the drive is physically too big to fit: it looks like the bay is for a 1.8" drive.
Have I massively misunderstood something here?
    Thanks for your help.

Okay, Mumbodog, it's time for me to be embarrassed... I rewatched a video online and I've overlooked that the hard drive fits underneath the ledge that's there. It was a tight fit due to some foam rubber buffering so it wasn't trivial, but not too arduous either. I've finally got it working and the drive's formatting now.
I'm sorry to have wasted your time over something that I should have checked more thoroughly.
    Many thanks.

  • Tiger & Maximum Hard Drive Size?

    Hello,
I have an older Mac tower - 733/2gb ram with an eSATA mod. Is there any limitation on the size or kind of hard drive I can install internally? Until now I've used up to 250gb, I'd like to install something greater than 500gb.
    Thanks for the help!

    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ACARD/AEC6880M/
this RAID card will allow you to combine 2 500GB PATA drives (not sure if any larger PATA capacities are available) as one large volume, with faster read/write performance than a single drive. The striped RAID option joins Master and Master drives on separate cables, and Slave and Slave drives, so you could have 2 striped RAIDS, and use one to back up the other. this card will also work with OS 9 (might not matter to you)
you will also need longer cables
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet%20Technology/TCBAGP/
For internal SATA you could put in two of these PCI cards:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet%20Technology/TSATA/
to support 4 internal SATA drives. I don't think any of the SATA RAID cards support OS 9, and they are a little more expensive.
