Envy 6 1103 updated to windows 8.1. Battery drain, driver issues...factory restore?

Hi folks,
I own a envy 6 ultrabook 1103el and i'm just another disappointed user who updated windows 8 to windoesn't 8.1...
i got all that problems that everybody is posting in the forum, so:
-several driver issues: mainly the most relevant seems to be the managing of graphics:..switchable, AMD 7670m .
i manually installed the beta drivers from the amd support (HP support center has not updated the drivers on the dedicated page of my computer) and now it seems working. but i noticed that there is a consistent battery drain... dropped from 5/6 hours to 3.5 hours.
lookin up some posts on the forum, i saw that's a pretty common problem, but i need thi pc for work and the battery life is fundamental for me.
so my question...as far as i know there should be a ssd/partition on my pc with some recovery stuff on it. is it possible to rollback to windows 8 with a factory restore? is there ANY way to have windows 8 back? the computer is quite new, so i didn't even had time to create a windows recovery disk or something like that...

If you are able to boot into Windows 8.1 it should be quite straight forward. The only determining factor is whether r not you did an upgrade or a clean install. A clean install would have deleted the recovery partition and an upgrade would not have done that.
Use the search charm and type in Recovery manager. Click on the HP recovery Manager icon that appears below. That should start the HP recovery Manager.  Click on System Recovery button that is in the I need help now section. In the new screen select factory Image recovery. That will start the process of installing the operating system that you PC was delivered with.
An Alternative would have been to use the DVD or usb recovery media that you shoud have created shortly after you initially setup your notebook. You said you didn't have time.  Well, you did make a choice not to make the time for that important detail. You can still make recovery media if you have not made a set yet. I recommend that you create the usb recovery media. It is far faster and considerably more durable than DVDs.

  • IOS 7.0.2 update causes overheating and severe battery drain

IOS 7.0.2 update causes overheating and severe battery drain. Before the update my 4S battery life can reached up to 2days  now the battery won’t last longer than 2 hours or less especially when its overheat.
Apple should release another update to fix their problem ASAP, also Apple should replace our 4S unit because our battery now is degraded and probably some of the parts are damage because of the extreme overheating caused by Apple update…
Anyone who can tweak this issue please post..
    Thanks

We also had an issue with IOS 7 refusing to accept the Apple ID and password (not the passcode) and this update appears to have fixed that as well. This problem surfaced on my wife's and my son's ioPhone, but not on mine.

  • After the latest iOS update (8.1.2) my battery drains in 4-5 hours, on standby (5S 16gb) - and I'm not the only one

    Hello,
Since the latest update, my iPhone 5S's battery life has decreased significantly.
In the past, I've never ran into any issues. I have my 5S for over an year now.
Prior to the 8.1.2 update, a full battery lasted for about 24h (usage time >= 4h) to 50-60 hrs (on standby, no usage).
However, after updating, I can see my battery decrease in an alert mode ( about 2-3 % every 3-4 minutes, even on standby).
I've tried all the solutions possible, including but not limited to:
    - downgrading to iOS 8.1.1 (I managed to do it, because Apple is still signing the IPSW files). - didn't work, no improvement
    - restoring and updating again to 8.1.2 , starting from scratch (I've backed up all my stuff first, restored, updated, set iphone as 'new' , didn't put my data back on) - didn't work, no improvement
I've also chatted with the tech support today and they diagnosed my device, saying:
    Quoting support operator:
"Good news, it seems that everything for the hardware side —WiFi, Cellular, and Battery is looking beautiful! That is awesome! Some of the software though does seem to be affecting some things I do see. So, we have found out what the cause is. Next step is getting it taken care of so it doesn’t continue. I want to make sure you don’t have to keep worrying about your battery life."
The only fix they offered was restoring and updating to the latest version, 8.1.2 , again. I've told them I've already tried it, but I thought to give it another try. Unsuccessful again, battery still draining quickly.
I've discussed with another operator about 7 hours later, describing my problem and also told them other users experience this issue too:
Iphone iOS 8.1.2 battery drain remains
No iOS 8 Battery Drain Problems Until iOS 8.1.2
These are only two topics I've found on apple support forums, but many others are experiencing this too.
The technical support employee told me that Apple didn't yet discover this bug and if they do (on a large scale) they will issue an update, or a fix.
That's why I ask you all who have this issue to come and post here, to let Apple know we want our devices to work normally again.
I can't use my iphone if, it drains 100% of battery in 5-6 hours without abnormal usage time!! I also don't think it's healthy for the battery to recharge it 2-3 times a day.
Something needs to be done. I regret every day my decision to update to this version of iOS . I will never update again prior to reading other users' experince on the update.
    Please, Apple, do something!
Oh, and by the way, I would go to a service to have this looked into by a specialist, but in my country (and I'm sure there are other countries too) there aren't any Apple services , only shops. And I can't risk taking my phone to a local GSM repair shop, I don't trust them.
    Hoping for the best,

I Have the same issue on a brand new iPad mini 2. My battery is only lasting up to 5 hours. I went on chat with Apple last night and they said my battery is fine and its a Safari issue. I'm literally losing 1% every 3-4 minutes. I tried recalibrating my battery, signing out of iCloud, shutting off all locations, turning off background app refresh, restoring network settings, restoring all, and finally restoring from iTunes with no luck. This is just awful. I got this iPad so I could use it on my long flight for a trip I have coming up, and unfortunately, it's not going to last that long, plus I'm concerned about how many times i will be recharging my battery because of this since battery's do have a life cycle dependent on the number of charges. This is frustrating and needs to be fixed ASAP and addressed by Apple.
By the way, Apple told me to bring my device to the Apple Store because it's still under warranty. That's great and all, but I'm going to waste my time if there is no fix for this issue.
Ok so you want Apple to address the problem, but yet you don't want to take it to them just in case they can't fix it? What if they can fix it? Complaining here certainly won't fix it.

  • T60p Windows 7 (x64) Atheros WiFi driver issue

    Hello,
The new Windows 7 supported Access Connections driver support matrix says the Microsoft provided Atheros driver is the one to use with Windows 7.  However, I can't get this driver to connect on a T60p.  I tried with two access points (Linksys and Apple) with security all the way off and all the way up through WPA2-Personal (AES).  No dice.
This is on a system that used to work just fine under XP (x86) and the lenovo provided wireless driver.
So I then tried the Lenovo provided Vista X64 Wifi drivers under Windows 7 and the WIFI seemed to work fine except for a resume issue (see below).
I verified this state of affairs on two separate T60ps.
    Question(s):
    1) Am I losing out on anything by using the Vista x64 drivers under Windows 7?
    2) Does Lenovo know about this issue?
The reason I believe this is not an optimal state of affairs is that I had an issue when I resumed from sleep or hibernation.  The wireless network would not reconnect.  After a reboot, it would connect just fine.  I trolled around the net and found a solution to this where you put the minimum CPU speed to 100% under advanced power management in the control panel.  After that the Vista driver does fine when resuming.  But this makes me feel like I'm burning battery for no good reason other than to prevent an issue for when I resume from sleep/hibernation.
    Any ideas?

Go into Device Manager and check the The Power Management Properties of the Atheros Network Adapter. Look to see if the adapter is powered off during sleep. You might try keeping it on and then see if you can lower the other power settings.

  • IP4S Battery Drain Was 8% hour.  Restored As NEW PHONE Via iTunes Battery Drain Now 1% per hour!

RE:  iPhone 4S rapid battery drain out-of-the-box.
I had been experiencing a battery drain of 8% per hour.
Apple's software update did not make it better!
I then restored my iPhone 4S as a NEW phone and now my battery is draining at 1% per hour with all settings at maximum for battery drain.
Apple could have done more to make millions of customers happier customers.

Thanks for sharing.  Restoring the phone first from backup then as new is one of the standard troubleshooting steps outlined in the User Guide.  Too bad more people like you don't realize this.

  • HP Envy m6, Updated for Windows 8.1, hard drive needs to reboot

    Hey,
I've just updated my software to get the new Windows 8.1. On completing my updates, I recieved a message saying my hard drive has changed and that I need to reboot it. How do I do this? Do I risk losing my files? HELP
    HpEnvym6beats

Hello hpenvym6beats. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. I understand the computer provided a message, indicating the hard drive has changed. It shouldn't become a huge issue, as it does occur sometimes, after completing updates. Just turn off the computer and turn it back on. Your files should not be lost, after completing this task.
Please respond if you have any other questions or concerns.

  • NK1 update does not fix NG6 battery drain

Just saying the biggest and most common problem wasn't fixed. NG6 sucks the battery and NK1 doesn't improve. Hard reset / factory reset is not an option. Changing from GPS High Accuracy mode should not be required. I was running that before the update. The only thing that helps somewhat is to go to the task manager and clear the memory on the ram tab frequently.

    hi
they keep deleting my posts about that, but what helped me tremendously was simply switching off SIRI competely...
My phone died within 4-5 hours (new, clean install, the third new hardware in a row)... and since I switched off SIRI it holds the battery for over 24 hours even if I use it a lot...
told it to the Apple Store 'geniuses' today in Berlin, hopefully that info makes it into the next update.

  • For those with battery drain / wifi issues

Many of you have found a temp fix related to exchange email accounts, this is not for you and I'm glad you have found something that seems to be working.
For those of you with battery oddities, something new to try...
See what security protocol your wireless router is using...is it WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.
If you are using WEP, try changing to WPA/WPA2 and re-associate your iPhone with your wireless network.
IMPORTANT: Changing this setting on your router will disconnect all of your wireless network devices so only try this if you've tried everything else to this point and your phone is still acting up.
I've spent more hours troubleshooting over the last couple weeks than I care to admit. I noticed that both my routers at the office and at home were still configured using WEP protocol (older/insecure standard). I reconfigured my office network this morning with WPA and updated the configuration on my phone.
Well....................since doing this my 3GS is acting normal again (normal standby drain, not warm, wifi status bar icon not staying on constantly, etc.). So far NOTHING else has worked for me - restore as new, toggling various settings on/off, evaluating certain apps, reset settings/warnings on phone and in iTunes.
I'm curious to know if it makes a difference for any of you as this issue is certainly 'outside' of the phone itself but would make sense as some incremental firmware releases in the past have caused issues when connecting to different wireless networks.
Please report back if you try and after you've had a fair amount of time to evaluate. May just be another shot in the dark but so far it's peaked my curiosity.
    Nathan

Thanks once again for your post nateinva. Ultimately it was your suggestion that got me going on the right track, but I had one additional variable...
So, after reading your post I did switch my router to WPA2 (which also necessitated reconfiguring all of my wireless devices) and then once again began testing my phone battery life. Alas, it was the same. It would drain inordinately at home on wifi, but otherwise was normal. Next I read something about router firmware, and indeed mine was a bit outdated, so I updated that to the latest version. Voila, now my battery performs as I would hope. I have several mail accounts, an exchange account and a bunch of other stuff going on. I do have push notification turned off. I now lose about 1% per hour which I find totally acceptable.
Many thanks for the helpful post.

  • Windows 7 iMac 24" 2009 driver issues

I am currently attempting to create a boot camp partition on my early 2009 24" iMac. I am using a USB drive with Windows 7 32bit. I have managed to partition the disc, however, when i try to install windows its starts off by asking for a driver for my DVD drive.
I have, like so many others encountered the "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server." error. So i downloaded the Boot Camp Support Software from: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 to no avail.
So i turn to you, how do i access the drivers needed to complete my windows instalation?

Hi there and welcome to the forums ,
I could recommend you to use the windows 7 beta drivers from ATI/AMD. They are avaible from the manufacturer's website. For the integrated card also the intel drivers were fine for me. As far as i know No switchable gfx support yet (although the ati driver has a switchable graphics option ... which freezes my laptop to hard reset ).
    good luck, bye

  • Windows 7 X-Fi Titanium Driver Issue

% On a clean install of Windows 7, after intalling the latest driver for Windows 7 for the X-fi Titanium, 6.00.00.347, I lose one of my my Windows sounds, the "start navigation" click sound. However, if I install the drivers from Windows update, 6.00.00.323, the "start navigation" click sound returns. I have tried both drivers several times and I was able to reproduce the issue each and every time.

: Happens with me as well. And, notice that even when start navigation sound works, it pops a lot if clicked repeatedly.
    Strangely nobody posted any comment here,?in other hardware forums normally Windows 7 sounds issues with X Fi series?are hot topics. I hope this get fixed soon;
    Cheers.

  • Windows 7 installation from USB drive issue

I tried installing Windows 7 through a USB Thumb drive. I got an error message saying
"No device drivers were found. Make sure the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."
    Please help me.

    Hi:
See if either of the driver files I have attached work.
If they don't, I won't be able to assist you any further.
You will have to try each of them separately, because they have the same file names in the folders.
Download, unzip and copy just the files in the folders to a usb flash drive.
With the flash drive and W7 installation media plugged into the machine, boot from the W7 installation media.
After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option.
You should now see the storage driver files listed.
If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.
Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7 will install.

  • Update from Windows 8.0 to windows 8.1

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-A Laptop that came with Windows 8.0 installed at purchase after taking a update to Windows 8.1 the DVD drive now isn't recognized any more. I've uninstalled the dvd driver and reinstalled them and my dvd drive still
doesn't work and my laptop is only 6 months old.

A simple test to determine if it is a driver issue or a faulty DVD drive (yes it can be bad at 6 months old, I have seen them bad out of the box) would be to use a Windows install disk and see if the machine will boot from the DVD. You may have to hold down
one of the function keys to access the boot menu. Refer to your laptops owners manual on how to boot from the DVD drive. Alternatively you can try tapping the F1 through F12 keys until you access the boot menu.
If the drive boots the disk then chances are the drive is OK and your problem is some sort of driver compatibility issues or the resources for the drive are not allocated correctly in the operating system. If the drive does not boot the disk, you have a
    bad drive.
