Envy IPS 27 Monitor - Flickering

Graetful for any advice.
Monitor now started flickering.
Manifests as a black screen that flashes on/off each second with faint short coloured lines (based on the picture on the desk top) around the edge of the screen.
No changes to system/wires/location etc.
Expensive monitor and just out of warranty so hoping that this is fixable.
Many thanks,
AdamS22

  • Envy 32 screen flickering

I'm going to buy Envy 32 monitor but there is some concern regarding widely reported screen flickering issue in this model as well as other monitors having the same LCD panel from AUO (like BenQ BL3200PT and Samsung S32D850T). For example http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1041333015&postcount=20 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pRIguTbH7Y.
Do you know anything about this issue? Has it been fixed in newer devices?

  • External LG IPS Monitor 23 inch 23EA53 and Macbook Pro Retina 13 erros to display

    Good night,
I bought a LG IPS Monitor 23 inch 23EA53 and connect it with an HDMI monitor spanning works, but with a slight drizzle white and red on the screen, also tested it with an adapter Mini Display Port to DVI, but this unfortunately also this with errors ... after a while it clears hers Monitor LG, what is happening with my Macbook Pro?

    Hi mwc6zp,
I have come across exactly the same issue.  Same monitor, same laptop model and year, same everything.  The only way I can get it to work is by using the standard HDMI input to the laptop.
Were you ever able to work around this?

I just got one of the new Catleap 27" IPS monitors. It works fine in Windows at its native 2560x1440 but arch doesn't seem to be detecting it properly

DVI-I-3 is my second monitor (a regular LCD) which works fine. I think DVI-I-2 is the Catleap. Oddly, the manual says it supports 800x600 but it won't even turn on when X is started. Also it works fine when X isn't started. Whenever I switch to a different TTY my second monitor turns off and the Catleap turns on (albeit at a low resolution).
I've tried adding a new resolution mode with xrandr, but that gives me an error

I've tried various xorg.conf settings and using nvidia-settings, but nothing I do can get it to use a higher resolution or even turn on for that matter. I'm not sure if my dual monitor setup could be screwing with it. I've tried disconnecting my second monitor but that doesn't seem to help.
I found this article, which says that the Catleap's EDID isn't in Linux by default so you can specify it manually. So I set up my xorg.conf.d directory as follows
    # 90-serverlayout.conf

Which doesn't work. The Catleap still won't turn on and the mouse position is all screwed up on my Acer. If I comment out the screen 1 line in the ServerLayout, the Acer works fine on its own.

  • 2014 Mac mini doesn't scale the entire HP Envy 32 monitor screen

I recently purchased a HP Envy 32 monitor for use with my 2014 Mac mini with the Iris display. I get 2560x1440 resolution at 60 Hz on both the DP (1.2) as well as the HDMI ports (using the auto-detected HP Envy 32 color profile) but the display doesn't scale the entire screen of the monitor. Is anyone else using this configuration successfully? If so, what have you done to make full use of the 32" monitor real-estate? I simply cannot find any options in Display preferences (Yosemite) to change underscan options or for that matter within the monitor itself. Is there a particular display profile or driver I can use to fix this issue?

I'm using a 4K compatible DP cable connected to the Thunderbolt port and getting to the max resolution of the monitor. So I don't think the issue lies there. I was able to use SwitchResX trial mode to discover an underscan option that allowed me to scale to the entire monitor screen. Assuming SwitchResX is manipulating core OSX functions, I'd assume there is some display related configuration within OSX that I should be able to tweak in order to scale the monitor screen natively in OSX without requiring any 3rd party software. Any thoughts for how to go about tweaking the display natively?
    Thanks

  • HDMI Monitor flickers

I have an VGA Monitor connected via adaptor to the HDMI port as a second Monitor to my Thunderbolt display. The VGA Monitor flickers and it was suggested to upgrade the firmware. But the system tells me the firmware is not for my system (Mac mini Model A1347 from autumn 2011).
How can I fix this problem?

    What monitor(s)...?
If one has (Digital) DVI input, then you should use it on the HDMI port with the Apple Supplied HDMI to DVI adapter and a good DVI cable.
If both have (Digital) DVI input, then it would be best if the second one was also on a Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay Port to DVI adapter instead of analog VGA.

  • Monitor flickers

    Greetings,
I have a new mac mini with 16 mb memory, 2 T hd and acer 24" monitor connected to the DVI to usb connection. Latley and from some unknow reason , the monitor flickers every once and a while.
Is there an issue with the mac mini? Or the video card in the mac mini? Or is there some issue with the monitor compatibility?

  • Computer Monitor Flickers

My computer monitor flickers if we tap it on the side it stops, then starts up again, sometimes we go hours and not problem, other times it drives us nuts, We have a  Gateway computer, it works fine except for this monitor problem, it was purchased in 2004,  it has  a "nvidia GE Force 2 MX 400 video card, I checked with Nvidia and tried downloading the latest driver but then the computer wouldn't start so I had to go back to a previous date so that the computer would start, do I need to look at getting a new monitor? IF so what sort of monitor would be best, someone said the resolution would not be good on a wide screen, but the only ones I have found at Best Buy and other places are the wide screens.   I hope someone can  suggest a solution so we can enjoy this second computer and stop hitting the monitor
    thanks Lea

I'm having a similar flickering problem with the LG widescreen LCD monitor which came with our first Vista computer (an HP desktop, purchased about a year after Vista came out).  It mostly only seems to flicker when I'm playing games with animations in the graphics (such as Civilization IV or Astral Masters).  The most common suggestion I found (f.ex. in the HP Help & Support area preinstalled on my computer) was to increase the refresh rate.  Doing this has not eliminated the flickering, but has lessened the severity somewhat (it just flickers as vertical lines or bars at 75hz; at the default of 60hz it flickered as both vertical and horizontal lines).  I ran HP's Monitor Diagnostic Tool (which included a simple wireframe animation), and it didn't turn up any problems.
Hockeycanuckjc's suggestions sound pretty practical, and I'll try them.  I've also seen on another thread on this board that Nvidia graphics cards (my HP computer has an Nvidia Geforce 8500GT) can have issues with the drivers, especially after Windows Vista has just automatically downloaded its latest updates -- so it's possible that the graphics card driver could be getting cranky (though I haven't yet confirmed or denied that theory in regard to my own computer).
I think my HP computer is still covered under its Extended Service Plan (though I'd have to check the sales receipt to be sure), but I want to do as much troubleshooting as I can before calling Best Buy tech support, so I'll be able to explain my problem more knowledgeably, and hopefully not have to jump through as many hoops as usual before they authorize an in-home service call.

  • Lenovo Monitor Flickers constantly

    Hi All,
I have a Lenovo L197 Wide connected to a Server 2003 box (also lenovo) and the monitor flickers constantly. The refresh rate is set to default and I can't change it to see if it has any effect.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Cheers
    Andy.

    welcome to the forum.
are you using fluorescent lights nearby?   if so, does the monitor still flicker with the light(s) turned off?
have you tested the monitor on another computer, with a different cable, with a different video card, or a different monitor altogether with the server 2003 machine to eliminate any variables?
if the above checks out then your L197 either has a defective inverter or its backlight is failing.   warranty is your best option in this case.

  • Anyone with an IPS monitor getting headaches?

I just bought a new ASUS IPS (in plane switching, supposedly newer and better technology) monitor after my poor ACD died after 6 years. I notice an increase in headaches and bliurred vision that I never had with my ACD. Does anybody happen to have an IPS monitor and similar problems?

    Try turning the brightness down.

  • Yamakasi Catleap 2703 display?  (inexpensive huge IPS monitor - but is it compatible?

Anyone used a Yamakasi Catleap 2703 IPS display with their mac?  It looks like a great value in the 2560x1600 27" size ($325) but on EBay they state they are not Mac compatible for some reason.  It requires a dual dvi d connection, but I would suspect the mini displayport to dual link dvi adapter would work(  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter)

Never heard of it. When I Googled, my top hits were from eBay. If you're looking for a really good IPS monitor that is Mac compatible (and I think it very telling that the ad states that the monitor is not Mac compatible), Amaxon has the 24" Dell UltraSharp U2412M at a good price. Definitely not a 27", but a very good IPS monitor at a very good price.

  • S-ips monitor - is it preferred ?

I will be purchasing a new monitor. I have recently been informed of ips monitors. I do mostly video and photo edting , in Premiere and Photoshop. I don't know if the ips type monitors will be best for my use. I am considering a Dell ultra sharp model 2411 or 2412 and a HP zr 24 , both are 24 inch .Or would I be better off with a 27 inch " regular" type monitor.
Cost will be around 340 dollars for either situation . I currently use a hp 22 inch monitor and will be getting a new computer optimized for video editing . Whatever monitor I get it must be height adjustable . Thanks , Ray

Be aware that there are different flavours of IPS, although all are still better than TN.  See a recent review of the Dell 2412 on Tom's Hardware http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/s242hl-bid-u2412m-t24a550,3016.html

  • 25bw IPS monitor

Never again will I buy a HP monitor. 2 1/2 months after the warranty expires, a red line appears on the right side of the screen going straight down. Called up the tech support and they try to sell me the same one for "a reasonable price". Why would I buy the same monitor that malfunctions a couple months after the warranty is gone. No thank you. I've had my IPS monitor for over 2 years, not a dang thing wrong with it. Of course I upgraded to an ASUS IPS 27"...which I'm now forced to use because I refuse to use a defected monitor...but yeah. Way to go HP. You just lost yourself a customer.
