Envy Recovery Manger without restore the entire HD partitions

Question

Product Envy Laptop win 8.1 
 as soon as i get my new laptop I resized my System C: Partition from 900GB to 150 Gb to be able to install another OS ( Linux ) on another partition  , and i wanted to be sure that if i will recover the OS using HP recovery manager my other new User Created Partition including Linux wont be destroried .
so i tried booting by F11 and run  the Recover Manager to recover only the System and its driver ( Not the entire factory recovery ) but it didnot help , as it  also destroyied  the entire HD and restore the 900Gb back .

it said 
If the size of the OS partition (usually C was reduced below a minimum size requirement, other user-created partitions will be removed and stored data will be destroyed.
but i think that 150Gb is more than enough for system . so what does it mean by  the minium size requirment !?
and how can i resize and shrink my System 900Gb to be able to create  new partitions  and then recover   the OS only recovery without destroy all my newly created partition !

Hi,
If the HDD failed, you have to replace the whole HDD and rebuild your machine. If you wish to recover C: only, you have to build C: only, not the whole machine. One way to do is to clone/backup/image C: . I normally use O & O DiskImage to clone C: before conducting a big test. At the end of the test, I simpy restore the image back to C:
