EnzoMatrix: NEW 256 Nvidia GeForce Driver Due May 24th

The 256 Nvidia Video driver (that covers both desktops and laptops) is due out May 24th. I am really hoping that support for our; 760i and 9800 S will be included. Here is the article:
256 Nvidia Video Driver Launch & 3d Vision Postponement
Yeah, they have pushed back the 3-D Vision Surround support until the June or July release of the 256 branch driver. If I am reading between the lines right (and I hope I am) it looks like Nvidia is FINALLY  going to start a regular Monthly  driver release, like ATI has been doing for years and years. Monthly releases keep up with newer games and advancing technology (like DX 11). Let's all send out Happy Thoughts to Nvidia supporting monthly driver releases!!!

Ahead of schedule, Nvidia released 257.21 WHQL today! Here are the links:
                                                Nvidia 257.21 Win 7-Vista 64bit 257.21 WQHL Driver
                                                Nvidia 257.21 Win 7 & Vista 32bit WQHL Driver
Most suprising is that that they only support desktops and not desktop/laptop as Nvidia indicated this 256.xx family of driver would. Mayhaps there are a lot more problems with the all inclusive driver than they had anticipated. Here is more infomation on this driver:
This is the first driver release from the Release 256 family of drivers (versions 256.xx to 259.xx). This driver package supports GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, 200, 300, and 400-series desktop GPUs as well as ION desktop GPUs. Learn more about Release 256 drivers here .

It boots Ubuntu fine.  Arch linux doesn't complain either.  I only found out about the problem when I tried to pacman -Syu straight after the install - there was no networking.  ifconfig had done its job but there was no routing table.  I manually added route add default gw 192.168.0.1 and edited /etc/resolv.conf to make sure I could get to my router but, again, it wouldn't work.  The forcedeth module had been loaded (ethernet driver) so I took a look at lspci (details in very first post) and can see that it's appears to be an issue with the PCI bus (the ethernet hangs off the PCI bus)I ran hwdetect --modules and pasted the output into /etc/rc.conf and rebooted.  Still no joy.
The mobo is an ASRock 939N68PV-GLAN.  It has an nVidia chipset (GeForce 7050 NB + nForce 630A MCP SB).  From my lspci results it would appear the problem is with the 630A MCP.  As Ubuntu works and Arch doesn't I'm perplexed.  And yes I've googled and followed what little help there is around.  Nothing has worked so far.  Hopefully someone will have experienced a problem with either the same mobo or the 630A MCP and they can tell me what needs to be done.

  • Problem with MSI Nvidia GeForce 6800 LE (128MB) when playing 3D games

    Games problem
I have bought a new MSI Nvidia GeForce 6800 LE (128MB) a couple of months ago and have been have loads of trouble when playing games.
In windows, the graphics card works fine. The computer never crashes and everything is speedy. Movies on DVD, Xvid, Divx all play fine without problem, the most I get is the occasional freezing and then windows will be normal again.
The problem arises when I try to play a 3D game. When I load up the game it goes into the menu screens ok, the computer will load up the 3D engine and it will play for around a minute nice and crisp then the screen will go blank and computer will lock up. Then all the drives will go quiet and the computer will make 3 beeps with the PC speaker. Pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL at this point does nothing, nor does the reset button. I have to turn the power on and off.
I really have no clue why this is happening, I have taken the covers off and kept it in a cool area, hoping that it was something to do with over heating, my computer is not overly cluttered and this has made no difference.
I have also unplugged the CDR, DVDR, USB ports, one Hard drive (storage) to see if it was something to do with the power no getting to the Videocard and then tried to play a game and the same problem arose.
I have two games that I have tried, Tiger woods 2005 and doom III, both of which crash in the same manner.
I have tried to be as detailed as I can with the descritopn of my computer below and the power details I'm not sure about so I posted a picture of the power unit to help.
Many thanks for your help in this matter, I'm desperately trying to get some worth out of this card and feel frustrated that its going bonkers only when trying to play games :/
Please tell me if you require further information about the system.

Firstly, thank you for all your prompt responses, I really appreciate it. From the sounds of it, the PSU is ****
    antec
From what I have read, the Antec PSUs have good reliability and ratings. I looked around and saw this one: Antec NEOPower 480W ATX PSU for around £65. I also went read that article posted by Dr Stu, which then stumbled on more articles about PSUs.
    I have a couple more questions….
The rating of my system (http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/Power_Supply_Calculator.php) with all the components running came out to be 422W.  So do you think that the Antec NEOPower 480W ATX PSU would be sufficient for the computer considering I might add more RAM in the future?
Or should I buy the 500W+ one then?
Does anyone know if the Antec PSUs are quiet? My current q-Tec one makes me feel I'm in an aeroplane.
    lucky I read the forum!
I was in Maplins (computer shop) at lunch and thought, that shiny 650W Q-Tec looks nice and there looks like loads of power, that much do the trick. i got to the counter and thought.....let me wait, till i get home from work and read some more on the forum about this PSU issue.
Thanks god I didn’t buy that S***. having read some of the reviews, i would have wasted loooots of money for nothing.

  • Nvidia Geforce GTX 980M Mobile Maxwell Flagship in October ?

Makes me think that the gt72 was quick to release and try out the new build in preparation for the new Maxwell based cards. Kind of a duh! moment for those that picked up the gt72 now when they should've waited a few months, plus an even bigger duh! for those like me that picked up the gt70 2 weeks ago!

    Hello all!
So where can this be purchased at today.  And I don't me clevo or flashed cards pretending to be from MSI, I mean actual MSI authorized cards.  I can't find anyone who stocks them legitimately.  One reseller I spoke to says that they have been asking since November and have heard nothing yet.

  • MSI nVidia GeForce 4200 TI driver problem

Hi.. I really need your help guys..
First of all, I have Windows XP Pro.
Okay, I have this MSI nVidia GeForce 4200 TI card, and wanted to change drivers.
I had 50.xx, and wanted to change back to 40.xx, because it works better with Counter-Strike.
So, I went into Device Manager and went into the video card properties -> driver.
I pressed the 'Uninstall driver', because you need to uninstall the newer driver if you want to install an older driver.
Then my computer restarted, and when it was booting, a blue screen or something came up, with text about my computer was deleting and scanning some files(?).
I don't know what it was uninstalling excatly, but when I got into Windows I had to use a 'VGA driver' or something..
I tried to install the 40.xx driver, double clicked the Setup.exe but when it was begining to install this error came up: 'An error occured while launching the setup. (0x80040702)'.
I don't know what it means, but I can't install any drivers for nVidia?!
I tried the Device manager, and I can't update the 'VGA' ..
It's like my computer isn't recognizing the card or something.. I've tried 'Add new hardware' and everything.
    Please help me!
    Thanks in advance.
    P.S. My PC specs:
    Intel Pentium4 2.0GHz
    Some IBM mainboard
    512DDR
    GeForce 4200 TI
    Windows XP Pro

Generally for nVidia drivers for the VGA, is what I explained above by going to Add Remove programs in control panel and look for the entry for nVidia display drivers.
Since you are asking me this, I fear you may not be at the experience level required to do this as it can be somewhat of a nightmare if all the drivers are not removed completely. This is what you just experienced.
Look at the top of this forum and you will se an Important thread called driver cleaner, by Bonz and then the one above it by me. Go to the DriverHeaven Website and download the DC utility but make sure you read EVERYTHING and understand it before you proceed. If you are confused or not comfortable, then I suggest finding someone that is experienced enough to do it for you.
    It should be pretty straightforward.
    Good luck

  • Upgrade to new Nvidia GeForce 8600m GT

Anyone know if one can upgrade from the Radeon x1600 (in the former high end MacBook Pro) to the Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT (in the latest generation MacBook Pros just announced)?

Right now there is a serious problem with the drivers for the 8600 GT, so even if you could replace the logic board, you'd be going backwards as far as performance and stability are concerned.
I had the older MBP with the ATI graphics and had to replace it due to an accident. I now have the new MBP, which is a great machine until you try to use anything requiring Open GL support as the new card / driver combo under OS X totally blows.
I only wish I could replace my logic board with one containing the ATI chipset.

  • Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT Driver for Vista

    Hi mac-world!
I'm using BootCamp to start Windows Vista on my Mac Book Pro. I recently bought a seperate TFT-Display from Belinea, which I connect to my Mac Book via DVI. This isn't a Problem while using MacOS, but in Vista I can't adjust the resolution of the seperate Display to more than 1024x768 px. I already installed the Belinea Driver, but that doesn't solve the problem.
I am wondering, if I maybe need a driver update for the grafic-card. Unfortunately, Nvidia doesn't provide a driver download, but says, I need to contact my Laptop-Vendor for this issue. I didn't find a driver-download section on this page. Does someone know a solution? Where do I get the new driver?
    Thanks in advance
    regards
    Thorsten

In my case after going through normal Shut Down procedures, I
noted that after I go through normal shut-down-from-Windows, the machine does not power off. I can only turn off the machine by pressing the power switch for a few seconds.
    When I do not press this switch, Windows restarts after about ten minutes;
after, however, I receive a brief report (which I never manage to read in full)
informing me that a software may not have been properly installed or that I
    need a windows update.
This problem appeared long after I installed all the software that I use,
and I have checked whether I'm fully updated (I am).
Lately when I start-up after experiencing this problem, Windows indicates
that the problem is caused by an NVIDIA graphics driver and suggests that I
check for a driver update. I have tried the NVIDIA Website but there was no
reference to the graphics card installed in my machine, namely GeForce 8600M
GT - I only found a driver for GeForce 8700M GT.
I have since solved the problem as rerported in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1492731&tstart=0
However, I stll wonder why there is no reference to 8600 in the NVIDIA site.

Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disables GPU enhancements. Check the video card manufacturer's website for the latest software.
GPU enhancements can be enabled in the Performance panel of Preferences.
Here's the thing - the NVidia graphics driver I'm using is current! It's version 195.62. And here are the specifications of my video card (which is about a few years old).
I am using Windows XP Home 32-bit SP3 with 2GB of DDR2 memory. Processor is AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+.
I've read over the functionality that this error message affects, and I'm not sure I understand it. If my video card is using its most current driver, what the heck am I to do? How badly will this handicap my Adobe Photoshop experience? (For reference, I plan on not doing that much using the 3D capabilities of Photoshop - but it may be interesting one day.)
Also, one bug I'm experiencing is that the Layers window is present, but its contents don't appear unless I click on it.
I'm not sure if I'm open to buying a new video card just to satisfy my Photoshop needs. Any help is much appreciated in overcoming this error and enabling FULLY-operational functionality of Photoshop CS4. Thanks!

Here is a link that may help with old GPU's. Also ensure before you update the drivers that opengl is turned off otherwise PS will use the old drivers.

  • What is the current driver for an nvidia geforce 9800gt gpu please?

    hello
in my pursuit of installing the trial of cs6
i have fired up another desktop computer
    win7 64bit // 8gb of ram // 4 x 7200rpm hdd
it has an nvidia geforce 9800gt  (it is a LEGACY card)
(but it doesn't look like the one on the nvidia website with dual dvi
this one has 1 hdmi, 1 dvi, 1 standard monitor)
    it has 1gb ddr3 memory
installed, the gpu driver is 8.17.12.6658(1/7/2011) (according to gpu caps viewer)
when i check on nvidia's website it says the current driver is this
    320.18 whql (release date may 20, 2013)
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-320.18-whql-driver.html
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-320.18-whql-driver.html
can someone please confirm i'm in the right place if it's not too much trouble
the gpu seems to be working spot on, but i'd like to have the driver on file
    in case anything goes wrong
i'm not one to update unless something is broken or amiss or i need new features
    thanks in advance, j

If that is what nVidia indicates, I don't think anyone here will know something that nVidia doesn't know
I would download the driver to your chosen hard drive folder, if you wish
I also COMPLETELY agree to NOT fix something that is working !!!

  • Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200 drivers not working with my New HD display HELP

Are there any updates for the nvidia GeForce FX Go5200 or generic drivers so i can use my brand new, beautiful, Samsung 226bw HD Lcd??
please help me.. i've searched the internet high and low for support, even called apple care, and i can't find help anywhere..
    please help!!
does anyone know how to modify drivers? many pc users have been able to do it, but i don't know anything about code so please help me
I love my powerbook and don't want to replace it, but this new display may make me do that, i need the 22"'s for designing work and don't want to go back to my 17" display.

I'm having the same exact problem, only I've got the Samsung 225BW. I've spent all day on the phone with Samsung tech support to no avail, and could not reach anyone at Nvidia. Tried all the usual steps to adjust the resolution, but it will NOT reset, neither manually nor automatically, to the "optimum mode" of 1680x1050.
Have you had any luck yet? I've only had my display for a few days, and it will work on 1600x1024 and below, nothing higher.
There is no option in the menu for the 1680x1050! Making me crazy, because somehow it auto-set to the 1680x1050 when I first plugged it into my Powerbook G4, but now will not revert back to that.
Also, I searched for the driver downloads, and the only ones I found were for Windows.

  • Nouveau driver NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 corrupting on GNOME 3

I am trying to get Arch running on my sister's laptop, since she was an idiot and didn't upgrade or update Fedora 14, which caused it to be unable to update at all.
I've had the worst time getting this thing running. But my final unsolvable problem is getting the graphics card to work in Gnome 3.
I installed the nouveau drivers as suggested before messing with nvidia drivers. The nouveau drivers have this severe problem: they don't draw GNOME 3 or GDM consistently. They draw GTK windows and apps fine, though.
    Symptoms:
    The text is garbled.
The top bar isn't drawn at all, or it's drawn with messed up icons and messed up text.
The animated water drop that shows when you move the cursor to the top left of the screen works fine.
So I installed the nvidia driver because this is simply unacceptable. followed all instructions by the book, then restarted. The desktop reverted to the "fallback" method, which was usable, but this indicated problems with the driver (supposed to be 3D accelerated).
Then I did "nvidia-xconfig", and rebooted. The kernel module now wouldn't work. The /var/log/kernel.log read near the bottom of it,
NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 GPU installed in this system is supported through the NVIDIA 173.14.xx Legacy drivers. The 285.05.05.09 NVIDIA driver will ignore this GPU.
Well that certainly isn't what I bargained for. It's nvidia's stupid driver. WORK already!
I'll include another log found at /var/log/Xorg.0.log because I think the DRI modules, whatever those are, may be responsible for this, even though I followed the directions and made sure the nvidia config didn't have any DRI anything:
    loading extension XFree86-DRI
    load module "dri2"
    loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri2.so
    load extension DRI2
    loadModule: "nvidia"
    loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so
Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your system's kernel log for additional error messages.
Don't pay attention to the capitalization. It doesn't matter. The capitalization is correct in the files. I think the problem is to do with something else.
My guess is that somehow this laptop's graphics card is just so d--- old that nvidia forgot about it *sarcasm*. It doesn't explain why the nouvea drivers suck so much on it. Why are they corrupting gnome, and better yet, will it be fixed? Otherwise, this laptop has met its life-span.

    I forgot something.
I uninstalled the nvidia driver afterward and reinstalled the nouveau driver, but I'm having new problems. I've tried to recall what all config files I changed to work with the nvidia driver, and I've reverted them. I could have missed some.
GDM will start, and I can log in but now Gnome 3 doesn't show any GUI controls. Only the background.
Xabre wrote:Well, as noted, you dont need nvidia driver (which is for geforce 6 and newer chips), but  nvidia-173 driver (gf 5 series),  which currently doesn't support xorg 1.11, which is in arch repoes.
Best suggestion, if nouveau doesn't fit,  is to rebuild or find a repo with xorg 1.10 (wiki might help), and the install nvidia-173 from AUR.
Isn't there a way to force the update server to give you an earlier version of a package? And if so, would it automatically uninstall the newer version, and its dependencies and its dependees, and replace them? I've been reading Man pages all day, so I'm really tired at this point and need a little help sorting through the information in my head.
