EO Infinity Rollout

Hi, is there any news yet when a solution to exchange only lines are likely to be rolled out.  Half my town (lostwithiel) is on Exchange only lines, and this is proving frustrating as hell.
Granted I accept that having to close Spotify when I am hosting a webex for a client is a "first world" problem, as time goes on I am hitting my bandwidth ceiling more and more frequently, and just need a light at the end of the tunnel.

Without checking, depends on the size of the exchange, if you have Market 2 and above, with Vm (cable), then its very likely you will have it soon.  If you are on a small exchange Market 1 with no other similar infinity service then you could be in for a very long wait.

  • Infinity rollout stopped at the end of my street ?...

    Hi all,
This is my first post so here goes. Like most people I've been waiting for Infinity for a while now. I already know my exchange has been updated MYLOF, and that my street cabinet (CAB 15) hasnt been. My issue is that the rollout has completely passed by my estate. I've enclosed a map, my estate is boxed in red. All other areas on the map are eligible for Infinity.
I've tried to have a conversation with BT, but that was too painful to describe and resulted in a simple "it's not available in your area". We've even had the entire estate mail shot by BT to signup for Infinity. My estate is a new build, although I've lived on it for over 2 yrs so now that new.
Have we been simply skipped over?? Can anyone offer any suggestions or help?

hi this may explain a little more
Within an exchange area there will be some customers who can't get BT Infinity. There are several reasons why this could be the case:
Your phone line may be connected directly to the telephone exchange and not to a local street cabinet.
Your line may be too far from the local street cabinet to have a stable BT Infinity service.
Your local street cabinet may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
We haven't yet got the council's planning permission to do the necessary work at your local street cabinet.
So, even though you may be within an enabled exchange area, it's possible that your particular line may not be able to have BT Infinity yet. at activation of an exchange not all street cabs are enabled at that stage there is a phased roll out of street cabinets
Our availability checker at www.bt.com/infinity has the latest detail about what speed your line can provide.

  • BT Infinity - rollout not registering?

I have been waiting for the rollout of Infinity to the Bridgend exchange for some time. It was scheduled for 31st March 2011 and I watched with interest the fleet of Openreach vans installing new cabinets all down the road I live on including the the one 50 yards from my house.
They were still on our road in April, and if I remember rightly the date on the website got pushed back to June. Currently it says that the exchange is now rolled out.
Before this the line checker had confirmed that my line was scheduled to roll out on 31st March, but now it says I can't get it and that there are no plans to roll it out in my area!
I understand that not all cabinets for an exchange will necessarily have infinity rolled out to them, but I saw them install the new cabinet with my own eyes, so the usual argument about planning permission etc surely can't apply?
Could it be that the BT database which records the rollout data hasn't been updated for my cabinet?
The old cabinet has the number 21 printed on the front and side, the new one has no marks that I can see.
If anyone knows why this cabinet is not activated can they please let me know.
    Thanks
    Huw

    Hi
below is the list of postcodes that use cabinet 21.
The new Fibre Optic cabinet alongside/nearby doesn't get marked with a number.
The telephone number check is normally the most accurate check.
However if your sure 21 is your cabinet and it's powered up... you can hear the fans running inside it.
And perhaps you know of a neighbour/friend with a post code using cabinet 21, that is getting Infinity/or shows it's available for their telephone line.
That may add up to evidence to show for your line there may be an error on the Openreach database.
It could be worth contacting the very helpful forum mods with this information.
Contact form can be obtained by clicking on the name of any forum mod.... Takes a good few days due to their workload, but you will get a reply.

  • BT Infinity Rollout Schedule Confusion

I recently switched over from Orange Broadband to BT Total Broadband and although I am completely happy with my current package I am really confused why I couldn't go straight onto BT Infinity as my exchange is definitately capable of it because one of the main reasons I switched from Orange Broadband was after I spoke to a BT engineer who was installing BT Infinity in a house oposite to me but for some reason BT Infinity was not offered as an option for my property and I guess there is some kind of rollout schedule for BT Infinity and at some point my land line will be flagged as BT Infinity capable? It just seems like false economy to me as for me to move to BT Infinity now will mean I need to rip out all my BT Total Broadband kit or am I missing the point?
    Best Regards

  • Removal of Exchange from Infinity rollout plans?

    Hello,
I had a look at your area map for the current schedules of enabling areas for Infinity earlier this year, and noticed my area (Rock, Midlands) on the list for December 2012, however it is no longer on the list. I'm 99% sure I saw it as the same day I did another enquiry for Grays Thurrock, Essex and it was scheduled for the same date (The Grays date has since been moved forward to June 30th.
What happened? Exchanges 4 miles down the road have Infinity already rolled out.

It can happen. Sometimes councils prove too difficult in granting Openreach permission to put new street furniture in the area

  • BT Infinity Rollout

Just a quick question . If you are scheduled to get BT Infinity in your area in September 2013 . from previous experiences is it likely to be towards the middle or end of the month that they will start excepting orders ?
    Thanks in Advance
    David

    Hi mccallud
BT Infinity is just BT Retail's brandname for their FTTC and FTTP broadband products.
If your exchange area is being FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) upgraded then to get FTTC fibre broadband such as BT Infinity you will need to meet the below criteria:
    1) Your exchange has been FTTC Upgraded and is Accepting Orders.
    2) Your PCP (cabinet) which your phone line is connected to will also need to be upgraded with a DSLAM FTTC cabinet linked to the existing PCP.
Not all PCPc in the exchange area will be upgraded at the same time, meaning residence in the exchange area may not be able to get FTTC fibre broadband at the current time from any ISP/CP.
You can check by going to http://dslchecker.bt.com/adsl and see if "WBC FTTC" is in the grid of available broadband services to your line/property.
If your exchange area is being FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) upgraded then again Openreach will need to have installed the FTTP infrastructure on your street, meaning that some areas within the upgraded exchange area will not be able to get FTTP fibre broadband such as BT Infinity until the FTTP infrastructure has been installed.
The Openreach Superfast Fibre Broadband Scheme is being rolled out, done and managed by Openreach for ALL ISPs/CPs so BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP whom operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get fibre broadband (FTTC or FTTP or equivalent) as that is up-to Openreach
    Cheers

  • My area is not on the BT Infinity rollout map.

As the topic title says I'm not there.
I'm in the northwest in between Preston, higher Walton and bamber bridge. Both Preston and higher Walton apparently can get it and bamber bridge is due in december.
My area is hoghton and its not there. Does that mean there is no plan at all?

  • Bt infinity madness in gravesend

firstly I'm connectected to the gravesend exchange which is infinity enabled
all local cabinets ie walking distance of my property (aprtment built 2009 before the infinity rollout so connected to same cabs as local housing) da12 2se have been upgraded or replaced by the new infinity cabinets
bt infinty checker can not find my address
enter the address for all houses on the local roads surrounding by apartment can receive infinity
im connected to a cab that has been upgraded this has been confirmed by 2 open reach engineers
so can any one tell me why i cant get it? im sure the  other 300 people in the apartments around me would also like to know.
Also if my line does not support it how can i get a line that does?
also why is it that the bt infinity checker does not reconise the following post codes around my area all recent buit properties 2009 DA12 2AY / DA12 2SG / DA12 2ST / DA12 2SF

Sometimes with apartment buildings there are sub-cabinets in the building which can prevent FTTC being made available to the lines.

Bluntly, it's because BT is an utter joke: their customer service is rubbish; they're deliberately misleading customers into signing up by publishing rollout dates they know they can't achieve; and then they try to hide behind the Chinese walls of Openreach to abrogate any responsibility for their disillusioned customers.
I genuinely believe that BT know - when they sign up new customers with the carrot of Infinity rollout - that these dates will never be achieved.  It's a highly dubious and disreputable practice.

  • Infinity - (Braintree Exchange) How to source info...

My BT service is off the Braintree exchange, which has gone live with Infinity, but naturally not every BT customer is connected to a FTTC box. So, I understand that I need to be patient. However, I have contacted BT on several occasions to simply ask if they could tell me, even roughly, when I could expect Infinity to come to my line, if ever, but I simply come up against a wall of silence and “try again next week” advice. I have also asked BT if I took their Broadband (I’m currently with Pipex) and then upgraded to Infinity within the initial contract period would I be penalised? The response has been, “I don’t know”. Infinity connection issue; I’m in the middle of what is an Infinity triangle which from point to point is no more than 300mts, around that periphery are neighbours of mine with Infinity access so I’m trying to establish why the sub-cabinet (If there is such a thing) that my line originates from is not Infinity enabled? There is a newly installed and very large green FTTC box some 600mts away from me which I think all the “triangle” connections come from (And I would have thought mine) and I assume that feeds the more local sub-cabinets, though they are not visible surface cabinets. Also, I am sure that the existing telephone lines for those around me with Infinity actually need to pass by my home. Sorry to ramble, but does anyone have any advice on how to get information, short of collaring an Open Reach engineer when I next spot one, on the technical aspects of the routing to/from an FTTC box and if I’m on a sub-cabinet that may not be capable of being connected, and a BT contact that may be able to assist? Many thanks, David.

    Stephanie,
I'm up to speed on the issue of exchange live but only some cabinets being live, but as I've said in my post the primary cabinet at the end of my road is new and is being used for FTTC. What I can't quite fathom is why the FTT cabinet is being used for those who live on my road and roads that spur off it to get Infinity but it can't be use for me. Its a bit like the water main running down my road and everyone is tapping into it but I can't. Those houses before mine, those after and those opposite and behind me get fresh water from that main but I can't. I suppose it's all about logic, I can't understand it; there may well be a simple answer but BT simply can't explain it to me. If I were told that I can't have Infinity because of X then that's fine, but I'm not being told anything other than my telephone number and post code say "no" but your neighbours are can. As I've said, I'd just like to know why I can't access Infinity. I'm sure you can imagine, it's frustrating when neighbours have Infinity and BT email me telling me I can have it only to be told "no" when I call in. Finally, two points. I live in Great Notley which is a new'ish development and those Infinity installations I talk about are part of the same development as me; Another neighbour of mine went live with Infinity yesterday. I asked him to ask the Open Reach Engineer if there was a reason why his neighbour round the corner (Me, 150mts away) could not get Infinity. The Engineer replied by saying he could see no reason why as it's all live in the area but that the problem could be down to BT's post code checker.
The Infinity checker result is below - as you can see its "not currently due to be rolled out in my area".
If you are able to ascertain the reason why I can't get Infinity I'd be very grateful and I'll promptly sign up for BT TBB and await FTTC roll out to my number.

  • INFINITY IS COMING TO BATLEY, FINALLY :D

Hey guys, I havent been on for a while, exams and such etc. Today i thought I'd try and find out if there was any news on the Batley exchange being added to the Infinity rollout program. It turns out that it has! There is no exact date for it yet but it will be available 'calender year 2013' according to the 'future exchanges.pdf'.
I have one brief query though. I recontracted in September, paid the phone line 12 months in advance to get it cheaper. If and when I can upgrade, will the new prcie include line rental even though its already been paid for? Also i already have bt total broadband option 3 which i think is the same price as infinity 2?
    Thanks in advance.

Your line rental is a seperate package from your broadband (phone), you just need a voice package on your line at all times I believe.
There will be no price changes to your line rental.

The range is an indication of the speed that other similar lines across the UK have achieved for their broadband service; this is generally within 1-2 Mb higher or lower than your single estimated speed quoted.
The actual speed is dependent on several factors such as the product option you choose, the processing power of your computer, how many people are using your broadband connection at the same time, whether you use a wireless or cable connection, the speed of the websites that you visit and how we're managing the network. Speeds can be lower at peak times - peak times are evenings and weekends.

  • Cabinets getting installed but checker says no pla...

    Hi,
Some FTTC cabinets were installed around our estate at the beginning of last week, including one next to the cabinet i'm connected to (about 200m from my house).
I spoke to a BT Openreach engineer working at one of them yesterday and he said that one should be ready to go live after he left that day.
However, both the BT Infinity and BT Openreach checkers show no availability of FTTC and the Infinity checker actually says:
BT Infinity is not currently due to be rolled out in your area within the next 6 months. Register your interest and we will keep you up to date about the BT Infinity rollout.
@infinityfibre on Twitter who are a BT partner and claim to have access to Openreach systems also say there are no plans to roll out in our area - which is clearly wrong as they are installing the cabinets and BT Openreach engineers working on it.
As far as I see it at the moment, it looks like the cabinets will be live and ready in the next few weeks but no one will be able to orders because the system says no.
The PCP to Postcode report that's posted here somewhere says this for my postcode:
    Percent Lines: 100
    Uplift: 13.8
    Phase: 6a
It's not just me though - others on the estate are saying the same thing, so it seems to be an estate-wide problem. It seems that the whole roll-out in the estate has been missed from the data.
    Anyone else experienced anything similar?
    Thanks,
    Ian

    Hi,
Thanks - the cabinet went in at the start of last week - there is a trench filled in across to a manhole cover at the other side of the pavement so I guess that's the fibre coming across and it won't have power yet but BT were out at one yesterday so maybe they are doing it in a different order and getting their stuff in before the power goes in.
So you would expect that once it's been commissioned that it will just appear in the checker as available a few weeks later even though it currently shows no plans?
PS: By "It was then about 2/3 weeks before it went live" did you mean you were able to order it? (presumably if the guy with the laptop comissioned it, the cabinet was live then, but it took a few weeks for the message to get through and the online checkers to be updated?)?
Which ISP are you with? - was 2/3 weeks for it to show in both the Openreach and the BT Infinity checker?
    Thanks,
    Ian
    Hi Ian.
They might be getting a batch of cabinets ready.
I still have overhead electric from the poles , so they dug a trench from the pole to the fibre cabinet to get the electrical supply.
As regards the question would it appear on the checker, go back to what I said 2 Alot of people have problems with the checker".
Went Live was when it was available to order, not when they switched on the power. Some people say they can hear the cabinet humming for weeks before it goes live.
