EOS 350D not recognised

Hi, I've just changed to a new Mac and it won't recognise my Canon EOS 350D - my old Mac does. Both machines are running Leopard.
Can anyone suggest a fix, please?
Cheers
Phil

Did you upgrade the old Mac installation or do a fresh install.
Almost sounds as though support for some cameras is left out of Leopard but retained in an upgrade.
Is it just iPhoto that doesn't see it?
How about Image Capture app?
Have you got a card reader to use in the interim?

Check what you've got 'Communications' set to on the camera's settings - it needs to be 'Print/PTP', not 'Normal' 'Normal' to 'PTP' :

  • Canon EOS 350D does not see memory card--I've tried two different ones. Will not format--err 99

My EOS 350d has not worked since it was shipped to my daughter.  Bought new memory card and camera still does not recognize that a card is in it.  When connected to computer I could see card but it had 0 used memory and 0 memory available.  Now it does not show at all.  Using canon software get same response--no memory card.  Have tried with two different memory cards.  Even formatted one card on PC, still nothing.  Any ideas what to try next--pins look like they are all in correct place.

Unfortunately, the Error 99 code is not a specific error code and can indicate a number of issues, such as battery power issues, shutter issues, etc.  The more I looked into the 350D and memory card compatibility the more I think that may not be the issue.  In all honesty, I'd contact Canon support as you may have to send your camera in for repairs.
Before doing that, though, I'd try this. Restart your camera, wait a few moments then set the camera's power to Off and remove the batteries.  Open the memory card slot cover to make sure the memory card is securely set in the card slot, then reinsert the batteries and turn the power to On. Hopefully that will do the trick, and if not I'd update the firmware for the camera as a last resort and see if that rectifies the problem.  If not, contact customer support.

  • Canon cameras not recognised in iPhoto 11

Hi, since upgrading to iPhoto 11 my canon cameras (Powershot A3000 and eos 350D) are not recognised. The eos shows 'busy' on the screen but does not show up in iPhoto, and the powershot does nothing. The cameras are not showing in System Profiler of Image Capture either, and do not mount onto the desktop (they have never done that).
I have checked the firmware of the eos and it looks as if it has the latest version.
Does anyone have any ideas what to do next?
    Many thanks
    Lisa

I've been away on holiday so it's been a while since I've bothered to try & sort this... however, today I looked through the related software updates for Canon EOS 350D (http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010192.asp) and downloaded 2 updates just for the **** of it (http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0039362.asp?model= and http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0039378.asp?model=) and I'm guessing one of them resolved the issue, because when I connected up my camera and switched it on, iPhoto swung into action and there was my camera!
Yippee!! Normal service has been resumed!

  • Camera connection device not recognised

Bought iPad 2 yesterday and camera connection kit, with express need to upload pictures. When we plug in camera connection get error 'device not recognised' , camera is EOS 350d. Any ideas please?

I havn't got a 350D, but on a 20D I had to change the camera's communication setting from 'Normal' to 'PTP' . Check what value that Communication is set to on your camera, PRINT/PTP or PC connection - it should be on the last of the five setting 'headings' on the camera's settings menu

  • EOS 350D and iPhoto... Need I say more???

iPhoto will not recognise my .cr2 350D (euro) files! I've seen the other threads and the plist fix. They won't work. lthough my question is... If I import with a CF Reader. Will that work? I could rename the reader to EOS Digital Reblel. Would that work?

    Max:
That very issue was posted at MacOSXhints in this hint: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051101035330228&query=canon+350
I think it can be done but you'll have to read the hint carefully. Good luck.

  • Can't Find Or Acces My RAW Files ( Canon EOS 350D

I'm new to SLR Cameras.. I have a Canon EOS 350D So y decided to shoot in RAW. But i have problems and question. If you just go to the camera directory can you see the RAW images? And i cannot find my RAW files that i shot..in my camera i can see them but in Bridge CS3 and PS CS3 nothing...i've already downloaded the update Camera RAW 4. But Nothing So how to work with RAW.. Pls Help me..because i need to shoot again tommorrow so i'm short on time..
    Raizen Albertsz,

I found some one with almost the same problem so i am going to change his words a little bit so that you can understand my problem.
I'd taken a few shots here and there this week in RAW + Large format, but wasn't able to find the RAW files. OK, I thought perhaps I was mistaken and didn't have the settings correct & didn't really take any RAW shots.
So I reformatted the 4GB Scandisk CF card (via the camera) and took more shots, all in RAW + Large. Going thru the camera display with Info turned on, I can verify that each one was indeed on RAW + Large. But I still can't find them.
I'm using a cable to connect my EOS Rebel XT (EOS 350D) to transfer the files to a selected folder on my pc. Opening that folder in Windows (I have Win XP)there are only the the JPGs in it. If i open Adobe Bridge CS3 or PS CS3 i would find only the JPGs. Where are my RAW .CR2 files going? I was under the impression they would be in the same folder as the JPG images, with same file number. So that i can see like a thumbnail or something.
I've downloaded the Camera RAW 4.4.1. Upgrade. I did what is written
To install with Adobe Creative Suite 3 or Photoshop CS3:
    1. Exit Photoshop CS3.
    2. Open My Computer.
    3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
    4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
    Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
    5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as in step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.
Note: If generic camera thumbnails appear in Adobe Bridge, follow these steps:
    1. Check to make sure the plug-in was installed in the correct directory in step 4 above.
    2. Start Bridge.
    3. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache.
but still nothing. So what else could i do?
    Raizen Albertsz,

  • Canon EOS 350D .CR2 pics still 'unsupported image format'?

I was releaved to see updates in Mac OS X (10.4.8) and Aperture 1.5 the other week, hoping it would solve my problem, being able to finally work with my RAW files (.cr2) from the Canon EOS 350D (yes, being in Europe these days).
I followed the posts on the forum throughout the summer, which recommended waiting for the next OS X update (which should support the camera in that raw definition file) and I didn't want to use the workaround, which clearly had problems with the colors on the pics.
After all the updates the other week, nothing has changed on my MBP. Still the 'Unsupported Image Format' on my RAW files. On the other hand, I don't see any posts on problems with the 350D camera anymore as well (only on CR2 files in general).
Am I missing something really basic here (tried rebuild library)? Or, have all the CR2 formats gone down the drain on Aperture 1.5?
Any help is appreciated, as I have already looked into Adobe Lightroom Beta and although I don't want to switch, the files seem to work there...

Yes, the import thumbnail is as you describe, the low res. JPG that is embedded in the RAW wrapper.
10.4.8 needs to be installed prior to Aperture 1.5 .... from a functionality point of view. I am not aware of a dependence that says AP 1.5 has to be uninstalled before a 10.4.8 upgrade or any such, not that AP 1.5 should need re-installing after a 10.4.8 upgrade .... assuming it was working correctly beforehand.
But to this last point, since you have an issue which may be related to AP or OS X, it is likely worthwhile updating both and in order.
Final thought. do you import directly from the CF card / camera vs. using an intermediary tool such as ImageBrowser or DP Professional? I am wondering if Aperture is very OCD aboout the image format wrapper and chokes at the least excuse that other apps. and tools ignore.

  • Canon Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility not responding

Have been using both Canon DPP and EOS Utility since Dec 09 successfully. Installed Snow Leopard in Jan 2010, still worked fine. Installed Aperture 3 in August and now the Canon software keeps shutting down on me. I contacted Canon and they said it is Apples fault (since 10.6.4) andthat it is because I am running Snow Leopard.
How can this be when it worked for 4 months fine?
Is this an issue with Aperture not wnating any ohter editing software?
I have a Canon EOS 50D camera and was exporting through the Digital Photo Professional software.
thanks to anyone that can help.

  • Aperture 2 Raw Conversion and Canon EOS 350D? Getting slightly worse?

    Hi,
I have compared a few images I shot with my Canon EOS 350d using the RAW converter in version 1.1 and version 2.0. These pictures showed flowers with special lighting conditions (high contrast, with selective sunlight). Then I've looked at some other pictures.
    * 1.1 shows better distribution of light. In 2.0 a wall was more evenly lighted, where 1.1 showed that there are different different levels of light.
    * in 2.0 one often has to apply 'recover hightlights', where this was not necessary in 1.1. Bright areas on flowers are much brighter in 2.0.
    * in 2.0 dark areas are quite a bit brighter
    * in 2.0 some pixel-size artifacts were introduced. For example on some leaf, darker green pixels appeared that were not there in 1.1
For the images I was looking at (especially when 'played' with light), the new raw converter of Aperture 2.0 seems to be a step backwards.
    What are others' experiences?
    Regards,
    Rainer Joswig

I wonder if the slowness is related to the rendering of the canon raw files.
As an experiment, you might try exporting the raw photos and creating a new separate library with them to see if aperture runs just as slow.
Even if you find the nonraw library runs more smoothly, I am not really suggesting you adopt this as part of your workflow. It just might be good to know if the format is a factor or if something else is causing the laggardly performance.

  • Aperture support of CANON EOS 350D?

Could you please tell if Aperture supports CANON EOS 350D.
Please note that even if one would expect the CANON EOS 350D to be identical with the Digital Rebel XT they *are not* identical with regard to the latest I-Photo. I can't load photos in RAW format from CANON EOS 350D to the latest version of i-Photo even if you can do it with the US Canon
Digital Rebel XT! So, please tell me if I can take photos in RAW-format from my CANON EOS 350D to Aperture which I intend to buy if it is compatible. When is i-photo going to support raw format in CANON EOS 350D?
    Thanks!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi,
I just came back from a Aperture seminar and I asked one of the Aperture presenters whether there was support for the 350D or not. He couldn't give me a clear answer to that and he was not aware that there was an american version of the camera called Digital Rebel XT and a european version called 350D where the Digital Rebel XT is supported by Aperture.
He did however say that Apple would continue to implement more raw file formats in Aperture as Canon opened the raw files for Apple. His advice was to contact Canon with regards to the 350D raw files.

  • EOS 350D Support

I have been getting "unsupported file format" messages from Aperture using ".CR2' files from my Canon EOS 350D. The Apple Aperture web site shows support for the "Digital Rebel XT" which is the US name for the same camera. Why does Aperture not support my 350D? Is this simply due to the difference in the model name? Does anyone else have the problem with their 350D?
    Confused.
    Thanks David

  • DNG (created from EOS 350D) sometimes unsupported image format...

I've imported some DNG files created from EOS 350D .CR2 files (Compressed, preserve RAW image, JPG preview full size) and I keep getting unsuported image format. Now .DNG files without fill size jpeg preview do show well (these where also created with DNG Converter 3.1).
This jpg preview size shouldn't matter I hoped. I switched to a .dng based workflow since August, all my latest photo's can't be handled with Aperture....

    Thanks for the info!
I hadn't checked out the specific 350D support, since I though (hoped) that once using .dng (without the embedded original .cr2 file), it was a pure .dng thingy, in that sence that it doesn't even have anything remotely to do with the original .cr2 raw file anymore, since that's just the reason why I use .dng.... I guess the .dng implementation in 10.4.3 is not done completely as it should then.
Anway, I'm thriled I can use the compare, select, loupe (simple but well implemented!) in Aperture, which rocks. (There are some gems in Aperture for sure, next to th numerous odities.
    Thanks again!

  • STILL no EOS 350D/Rebel XT RAW Support

I can't believe that even after several small iPhoto updates to 5.0.4 and the newly released Pro photo software Apeture today, Apple STILL isn't supporting the EOS 350D RAW format!! C'mon guys, it's not like it's that hard. It's all very well supplying drivers for 3rd party devices with OSX but you have to keep them up to date - very embarassing to be able to connect all sorts of obsolete DSLR models to iPhoto but not one that was released only 6 months ago.

Phil this is not really an option either as the last update to DNG is not supported by iPhoto, so there is no reason to think that this latest version will be immediately supported in Aperture. Right now apple really needs to work with camera makers to get things in order, otherwise this new program will be just like iPhoto and not kept up to date. It is understandable that the latest cameras may not work, but if you are going to offer a pro app then you should atleast try to get camera makers on board so that they can update the decoder to you immediately.

  • Canon EOS 350D

Leider lassen sich RAW-Bilder der Canon EOS 350D mit Photoshop CS2 nicht öffen. Ist ein Plug in verfügbar??
RAW pictures are not possible to open with Canon EOS 350D. Is there a plug-in available?

Camera Raw 3.1 unterstützt lt. Adobe die Canon EOS 350D und ist bereits in Photoshop CS2 integriert.
Die aktuelle Version ist übrigens Camera Raw 3.2.
