EOS 5D MarkII Raw won't open "Unsupported format"

I have downloaded the trial Aperture 2.1.4 and also downloaded and installed the latest RAW 2.6 update. I'm running OS 10.5.4. As far as I read here unless I'm shooting sRaw my photos should open, But no luck. Sometimes I get the "unsupported format" notice. More frequently just a small thumbnail size image appears on the full screen.
Clearly I'm doing something wrong. Please help.
Thanks.

Thanks for everyone's reply. It seems that the card I used was first formatted in my EOS 5D and then just placed in the 5DII. While these files work fine in Bridge and Photoshop, Aperture would not read them. I took the same card and reformatted it in the 5DII. Aperture now seems to read the files.
On further searching it does seems that the card format could be the issue. I'll keep working on this and give an update.
Thanks.

  • Camera Raw won't open or open any Raw files...CS6

Using a macbook pro and just installed CS6, trying to open Raw files, but they won't open and camera raw won't open either.
If I try open with photoshop it comes up with the message "Could not complete your request because of a disc error." Iv been on Disc Utility and everything seems fine with disc.
Everything is up to date, cameras I use are Nikon D700 and D3100 and these are supported so it isn't that it needs updating to support these camera models..totally confused as to what to do..any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Camera Raw won't open certain JPG files from Bridge, others open in ACR with no problem.

Edit: This was orignally posted in the Photoshop > Macintosh forum, which I failed to realize was read only. Thanks to a PM headsup, I'm reposting it here. Thanks
I've searched the internet and the Adobe forums and cannot find a direct answer to what I'm dealing with.
The issue I am having is that Bridge CS5 (current version 4.0.5.11) will open some JPG images in Raw with no problem and others nothing happens at all. All the images come from the same source (Fujifilm Frontier SP2000) so I really don't understand why Bridge ignores some of them as being openable in RAW. For example, say this roll of film has 36 images. If I "Select All", right click, and select "Open in Camera Raw", it will open whichever it deems acceptable in RAW and nothing happens at all to the others (The RAW dialog will, for instance, only open 10 images instead of all 36, and the remaining images are not altered in any way).
I've made sure that Photoshop is prefering Adobe Camera Raw with Supported Raw Files and in Camera Raw Preferences I have the box ticked to Automatically open JPGs with Settings but nothing helps.
My work around is to one file at a time in the Photoshop Open dialog, selecting an affected JPG file and have it open them as Camera Raw instead of Jpeg.
Any ideas? It's done this for quite a while and I have no idea how to fix it.
    Thanks.

  • Camera raw won't open my raw files from bridge.  Mac user, camera, Nikon D800, latest camera raw update is installed.  Help!!

I don't get a photo preview in bridge of my raw files, just the NEF file thing.  Then when I click to open them I get a message that says:  "If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via Help > Updates"   "If the problem persists, visit the following link for more information: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111".  I can't seem to figure out what to do!  Help Please!?

Usually the problem with a newer Nikon camera is that the NEF files have been transferred or viewed with obsolete Nikon software, like Nikon Transfer for View NX, and those change something in the header of the raw file that makes it unrecognizable to Adobe products.
For new images, the solution is to either stop using Nikon products to transfer and view your files or update your Nikon products to be as new as your camera.
There is a utility to fix this particular corruption here:

  • Camera Raw won't open in Photoshop CS6

Wanting to begin using the Camera Raw plug-in for PS CS6, I find that it isn't active. (1) In Bridge CS6, the ACR icon in the top menu is grayed out; (2) after clicking a JPEG image file in Bridge, then right-clicking it, there's no option to open it in Camera Raw; (3) using Bridge's File menu, there's no Camera Raw option visible; and (4) in PS CS6, going from File > Open, then choosing "Camera Raw" in the Enable options drop-down list, each JPEG file is grayed out.
My attempts to activate Camera Raw involve (1) downloading DNG Converter 8.7.1 and (2) attempting to download ACR 8.3…Adobe Update. That second effort failed, getting this error code: "Camera Raw 8.3(CS6) U44M2P7". I currently have AdobeCameraRaw7.0ALL and AdobeCameraRawProfile7.0ALL installed on a Mac running OS10.7.6.
I don't know what else to do. Please tell me how to activate Camera Raw using Photoshop CS6.
    Thank you very much.

Benjamin, I thank you very much for your prompt and helpful e-reply!
I've downloaded and installed the ACR plug-in for v. 8.7.1.311 Now, files open in Camera Raw, as expected, when using Bridge CS6. That's great.
    I have two questions, Ben:
1 -- -- Although the first three options that I mentioned above (working from Bridge) are successful, I'm unable to open JPEGs in Camera Raw directly from Photoshop [as in option (4) above]. I'd like to be able to open JPEG files from PS; is there a preference I need to set to get PS to recognize and enable ACR?
2 -- -- Should I now delete all files related to AdobeCameraRaw7.0ALL? Or are those files required to run with the new plug-in?
    Thank you, my friend.

  • AVI file won`t open - unsupported or damaged

I am using Premiere CS5, and did an edit about 5 days ago with .avi files recorded with FRAPS - screen recorder, everything was fine...
When I open that project now, it asks me to find the file because I changed my HDD letter, and when I find it, it says "Unsupported or damaged file"
    I don`t know why?
How it worked few days ago?
The same is happening when I try to import that in new project...
The files has just been on hard drive, and I haven˙t touched them...
I can play them only with VLC...
I tried Digital Video Repair, and show like it fixed the file, but I still can`t open it up..
How can it be that the file damages itself?

    Yep... seen it before
Download VLC Media Player and install it.
In the folder containing your AVI files, create a new text document called "avi2mp4.bat" (without the quote marks). Be sure it has the .BAT extension.
Paste the following into the batch file:
    @ECHO OFF
    for %%a in (*.avi) do "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc" -I dummy "%%a" --sout=#:file{dst="%%~na".mp4} vlc://quit
If VLC is installed in the Program Files folder and not the Program Files (x86) folder, remove the " (x86)" from this line, and save the file.
To run the batch, simply double-click it, or you can drag and drop AVI files onto it, and they will be rewrapped as MP4s with the same filename as the original. If you use the drag and drop approach, you can save this file anywhere on your hard drive, and any files dropped onto it will be converted and placed in the same folder as the original.
That's it; the MP4s will (should, anyway) import into Premiere without any further workarounds.

  • D800 raw won't open in CS6, Camera Raw 7.1

My nikon d800 raw files are visable through Adobe Bridge, but only as a Raw Icon, it does not show the image. When I right click on it to open in Camera Raw, I get a message that says "Camera Raw cannot open this file. If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw Update...".
I am a bit confused because I am using the latest Photoshop CS6 (subscription), updated to Camera Raw 7.1

The files are likely corrupted, then, either by your camera or computer hardware, or by software you are running on your computer.   Posting a file online, or sending it to an e-mail address of an interested user after private-messaging them would help determine if your Adobe software is confused or if the files are corrupt.  Do you have any other way to view the files outside of Adobe software, a Nikon-licensed  viewer, perhaps, not the previews that many programs know how to look at, but the raw-data, itself.
Did you use Nikon Transfer to move the files to your computer?  If so, it is an obsolete program that Nikon has advised people not to use because it corrupts the metadata in Nikon raw files of the newest cameras so that Adobe doesn’t recognize them.
A couple more suggestions for self-diagnosing what might be wrong:
    1)      Copy the files from a card-reader to your hard-drive using your operating system utilities (Windows Explorer or Finder), and then try to open in Photoshop, directly, (using File / Open) to minimize the number of things that have touched the files between when the camera wrote them to the card and Adobe software tried to interpret them.
    2)      Download a D800 raw file from a separate source and see if that file works.  This will help narrow down if it is something about your camera or memory card or cable or reader or transfer process or if it is a misconfiguration of Adobe Photoshop.  Here is a sample D800 RAW file from DPReview:  http://movies.dpreview.com.s3.amazonaws.com/nikon_d800/DSC_0241.NEF.zip  from this page:  http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikon-d800-d800e/33
I can verify that the DSC_0241.NEF file downloaded from DPReview opens in PS-CS6/ACR7.1 and the thumbnail is visible in Bridge.

  • Leica .raw won't open in CS5

Cannot open Leica .raw documents in Photoshop CS5, but CS2 would open them fine. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to have to open everything as .jpg!

    Jeff Schewe wrote:
The default install of CS5 would include ACR 6.0…
Just as a matter of interest, I got my copy of the CS5 Mac Upgrade DVD in the box direct from Adobe via FedEx today, Friday, April 6.  It's labeled just plain ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5, and it installed Ps 12.1 with ACR 6.0.3 right off the DVD.
Just needed to update ACR to 6.6 through the Adobe Auto Updater.
I had never bought a Ps release so late in the release cycle, and my previous experience had always been as Jeff Schewe indicates above.  The recent offer to get CS6 for free motivated me to get CS5 this week, a version I had otherwise fully intended to skip.

  • Canon G1X RAW won't open in PSCS5

Even though Camera Raw plug-in lists G1X RAW as supported, PSCS5 will not open the RAW  .cr2 files. Camera Raw plugin version 6.6.0.261
Likewise, Adobe DNG Converter says it will, but will not. Likewise Lightroom 3.
I have seen mention of a beta 6.7 that will, but I am a publisher, and don't like having to use beta software!
Why is Adobe behind on this? The G1X is being sold (I have one), and should be supported in PS and Lightroom
    PSCS5 12.0.4 x64
    DNG Converter 6.6.0.261
    Lightroom 3 3.6 with Camera Raw 6.6

The Canon G1X RAW file format is currently supported in LR4 and should be supported with ACR 6.7 for PS.  There is a release-candidate available for ACR 6.7 at Adobe Labs:  http://labs.adobe.com/ along with the DNGC 6.7 RC.
It is your choice whether to use ACR 6.7 RC (or corresponding DNGC 6.7 RC) or wait for the release version of ACR 6.7.  If you need to wait, then take comfort that there is a beta which means Adobe is working on a solution that should work for you.
Be aware that there is a bug with ACR 6.7 RC when using PV2012 and LR4 so if you are thinking of upgrading to that, soon, then there will be rendering differences using PV2012 until Adobe updates ACR 6.7 to either RC2 or the release version.  With LR3.x you can only use up to PV2010 or earlier and the bug doesn’t manifest, there.

Thanks Jeff, followed your advice. Manually loaded 5.7 Raw update.  It did work. I just needed to purge the cache. then the raw files opened. Thanks you very much.

  • Camera Raw Won't Open B&W Image

I scanned both color negative and b&w negatives to tif files with my Scan Elite 5400 II, using latest Vuescan software.
I can't open the b&w image in CR but I can open the color ones.
I'm baffled, can CR discriminate between color and b&w images? I've tried scanning the b&w several times, using Vuescan b&w settings and also with color negative settings, and the color images open fine. Is there some tag that is attached to a b&w tif file or can CR determine if there is color in the file?
Has anyone had a similar experience or any ideas about why this might be happening?
    Greg

    > Is there some tag that is attached to a b&w tif file or can CR determine if there is color in the file?
In a sense, yes. That is, if you asked Vuescan to scan to grayscale, then the resulting TIF will have only one channel (instead of 3, R-G-B). I suppose ACR wants all 3 channels, so I'd advise next time you Vuescan to grayscale, you instead scan to RGB (even if it's a monochrome) ... or, convert the grayscale TIFs to RGB before ACR.
[Edit: I wonder what would happen if you imported these grayscales into Lightroom, and then asked to 'Develop'(?) That is, are grayscale images campatible with Lr?]

  • Aperture unsupported format

I purchased aperture to work with my RAW photos from my Panasonic Lumix GF-1 which is supposedly supported by the Aperture. After I upload my photos to aperture I get the message that my RAW photos are an unsupported format. I purchased the program about three weeks ago and have tried the updates with no luck. When I look at the photos on Iphoto I can see them. What's up with this?

Do you have the Camera Raw update 3.0.3? Another option would be to convert the images to DNG format with Adobe DNG Converter, a free download from Adobe Labs. Hope this helps

  • Help! My CS3 won't open RAW files from my Canon EOS 7D..

I have always used Photoshop CS3 - I like it and am quick with it, and I shoot RAW files on Canon EOS.
I don't want to upgrade to CS5, however since upgrading my camera to a 7D, Photoshop will no longer
open my RAW files. I've tried to update plug-ins, I've tried to work through DNG [it won't open those either]
and I've tried for hours on end to get an answer from Adobe on the phone. Nothing is working. Does anyone
have any advice for me please? I'm begining to tear my hair out!! Emma

    Hi,
Are you saying your Ps CS3 won't even open the sample DNG file (/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Samples/Doors.dng)? If that's the case then you need to make sure you have the correct Camera Raw 4 plug-in installed properly.
If it is just DNGs generated from your 7D files, then maybe the DNG Converter options need to be tweaked.
    regards

You need camera raw 8.4 for your camera, if it’s Digital Rebel T5 EOS 1200D EOS Kiss X70. It is not compatible with PSE11; so it’s a bit odd if that software was bundled with the camera except that it will work with jpegs. I suggest you download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will editable in PSE11(keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.4
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:
