EOS 70D : Slow shutter speed when LCD screen turned on

Hi !
Need your help. I am beginner & I have new 70D camera. When LCD panel turned off, the shutter speed is quite fast. When I turn on LCD Panel, the shutter speed automatically slows down & sounds annoying. The pictures are same in both cases. Also, the high speed continuous photo shoot, the shutter speed slows down when the LCD panel is turned on. Please help me to fix this.

There is nothing wrong with your camera.  It is working as it should when using LiveView.
There are two different types of Auto Focus:
1) Normally with a Film SLR or Digital SLR, you look through the optical viewfinder and view your scene through the lens of the camera.  Behind the lens a mirror reflects the image up into the optical viewfinder. When using the viewfinder the camera uses "Phase Detection" Auto Focus. With PD AF the image passes through a transparent part of the mirror to PD AF sensors below the mirror.  When you half press the shutter button the AF operates and when you fully press the shutter button the mirror flips up out of the way to allow the image to reach the image sensor behind the now open shutter curtain. While the mirror is flipped up, you can not see anything through the optical viewfinder.  This all takes place very quickly and makes a fair bit of noise from the action of the mirror flipping back and forth and the shutter curtain opening and closing.
2) When using LiveView on a DSLR, the rear LCD image displays the image. In order to for this to happen the mirror must be flipped up and the shutter curtain must be fully open.  The optical viewfinder becomes useless and the only way to see anything is by looking at the rear LCD screen. Auto Focus is no longer done with Phase Detection sensors below the mirror and now used  Contrast Detection Auto Focus is used by reading the focus right off the image sensor.  This type of AF is slower than PD AF.
The difference in sound is only because the mirror is already flipped up as soon as you press the LiveView button and all you hear is the sound of the shutter curtain clsoing and then opening up again so you can once again see the image on the LCD screen  . The actual shutter opening and closing speed is exactly the same.
Here is more info on how Phase Detection AF works:

  • I turn on my a1300 camera then suddenly its lcd screen turns green..why?

i turn on my a1300 camera then suddenly its lcd screen turns green.. icons on the screen is in color green and its larger than the usual size of the icon...

Hi, sounds like Graphic card or VRAM issue. Does it get better once warmed up?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode).

  • Slow internet speed when using AirPort

    Hi
I guess this may have been discussed before, but I could really do with some clear advice on the subject. I own a 2007 Mac Pro with an AirPort wi-fi card fitted by Apple as an option when I bought the machine. However, for some time now, I have experienced problems with my wi-fi connection when on the net.
Firstly, there's the signal. When I switch the computer on first and then access the internet, all four bars on the AirPort icon on my desktop are in black. However, after a while this starts to drop to three or two - sometimes even just one. The connection speed to the net decreases as the bars drop. When all four bars are filled in black, my connection speed is still not very good. My Mac Pro is not really far from my AirPort Extreme - in fact I have tried my old Windows XP based laptop in the same room and it appears to be fine provide better access speeds (even though it's an older machine)!
Secondly, my Mac Pro doesn't seem to like my 8 digit WPA-PSK security key on my modem (accessed through the AirPort Extreme base station). When I disconnect and try to re-connect to my network (as sometimes this helps my connection speed when it's low) the Mac asks me to punch in my key. I do this and it never seems to recognise it. Tried changing the password key through my modem's settings via an ethernet cable, yet still - when asked to type in the key when trying to access wirelessly - it is not recognised.
Can anyone offer any advice?? I have a Netgear modem/router with an AirPort Extreme 802.11n base station. I purchased my Mac Pro June 2007 from Apple.
    Thanks

I know cable connection is faster than bluetooth. But BT connection shouldn't be that slow.

  • Why my songs get stop when the screen turns dark

i have problems like this. when a song is playing and if the touch screen turns dark, my song is being disconnected. i have to press the on button and to touch the play icon on the screen again

Your headphones are not fully inserted.  The white part of the headphones should be flush with the headphone jack, meaning no silver from the headphone's plug can still be seen.

  • Extremely Slow Download Speeds when MacBook Pro is not plugged in.

I have a MacBook Pro 17" that I bought in May of 2007. I have Verizon High Speed DSL service. I have a Netgear wireless router. When my MacBook Pro is plugged in to a power outlet, it has very fast download speeds. As soon as I unplug it, it slows way down. I am talking like 2 or 3 minutes to load a page that would normally take about 1 second. Is there a setting I can change?

i have a similar problem. My MBP is taking a while to load pages. I dont know if its my internet speeds or my computer.

  • Slow upload speeds when using my wireless N router

    Hello,
I just have a quick question maybe someone can help me out with.  I have my verizon issued G rated router hooked up normally.  I turned off the wifi, and using one of the lan ports ran a cable to my D-link wireless N router.  I wanted to use this router, because it gives me great coverage in my house and have worked great for me in the past.  Anyway, I plugged my pc which has a gigabit adapter directly into one of the four open lan ports on my wireless N router.  Download speeds were consitently between 41mb/s to 45 mb/s which is awesome.  However the upload speeds are horrible and tops out around 3.5mb/s.
Here is where I need someones help.  If unplug the PC's lan wire from my wireless N router and instead plug it directly into one of  the open ports on the  Verizon router, I get the same download speeds, but now i am getting between 30 and 35mb/s.  Does anyone know why plugging into the lan port on the other router kills the upload speed? It has to be something in the settings, because if I connect wirelessly to either the verizon or the Dlink routers, I get the same upload speeds for both usually around 25mb/s.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

You don;t say which D-Link router you have.  A number of D-Link routers have an option called "Game-Fuel".  This is a setting that enables specific QOS settings.  If you have Game-Fuel turned on, that can adversely impact your upload.  Game-Fuel uses QOS to ensure that no one user monopolizes the upstream bandwidth.

  • How do I fix my ipod touch when the screen turns green , buttons are unresponsive and can't connect to a computer

My ipod display screen only shows a green light and the buttons are unresponsive. When i connected it to the computer , Itunes would not recognise it. Please can you help or seggest things that may help.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 5D3 min. shutter speed hidden feature / bug

The ISO speed settings - Min. Shutter speed setting allows setting the shutter speed automatically based on focal length of the lens or manually to a certain value.
The on screen help indicates this setting only affects photo mode.
But when shooting video the camera will still use this setting to determine shutter speed.
This feature can be used to slow down shutter speed when using a long lens (on a tripod)
The hidden feature thus is to go back to photo mode and modify the setting to either get a shutter speed in video mode that corresponds to the focal length or equal to e.g. 1/60, which allows for a lower iso value.
The issue being this feature is very usable in video mode, but the camera hides this setting when in video mode, as it assumes this shouldn't affect video.
It would be great if this menu item could be enabled in video mode too for a future firmware release.
From wishlist point of view I think it would be great if the minimum shutter speed could be set to automatically slow down shutter speed when a lens with Image Stabilization in mode on are being used. A setting that allows to drop shutter speed by 1/2 or 1/4 with IS activated can be handheld and nicely interact with Auto ISO.

  • Macbook pro: Extremely slow upload speed

    Hi,
I know this question has beed raised many times before me, seemingly from hundreds or thousands of users, but none of the threads I have found has lead to any solution.
My new Macbook Pro (15 inch), using Lion 10.7.3, is simply unable to obtain anything but an extremely slow upload speed, when using Wifi. I am using an Apple Airpor Extreme wifi device. My work PC, my older Macbook Pro (13 inch), all tablets and telephones etc hooks up to the same Wifi device and obtain all the speed they should, but my new Macbook Pro is sloooooooooooowwwww and sometimes cannot even initiated an uload speedtest at i.a. www.speedtest.net.
As mentioned, I am aware that there are plenty of threads on this, but I am not aware of any that provides a solution.
Is there a solution or is my new Macbook nothing but crAplle?
    Best regards,
    n

My subscription is 10 Mbps downloadand 2 Mbps download. upload
I get that (10/2 Mbps) on all other devices, other than my new Macbook Pro.
On my new Macbook pro I get 10 Mbps download, but only from 0 to 25 Kbps upload.

  • WRT160N SLOW CONNECTION SPEED

I have slow connect speed when using the WRT160N. I have tried every thing, done dianogstics on connection, router, modem, thru three diffeant software, norton, windows, system machinics. when ising the router some days the speed is amost like using dial up
I use XP, on both a laptop desk top, up to date drivers, both cna use wifi or direct connection by cat 5e, 3 m of ram, a wimax internet server,,,,, (company called Bridge Maxx)
But when I stop using the router and connect directly to the modem no problem works fine,,,,, not sure what to do........ just need my wifi back,,,,so i cna work,

Whats the Version number of your Router, If you have having version2 router, then there is an knows issue with Version2 Router. Downgrading to Build 8 is generally accepted to correct these issues, however Linksys have indicated to several people they do not have the build 8 firmware to give to end users.
This is ONLY for WRT160N V2 routers. This firmware will not work on WRT160N V1.
You can find it at http://audipages.com/router/
Follow the dowload and firmware downgrade instructions on that page.
Once you upgrade the firmware of your router, you need to Reset your Router and Re-Configure all the settings on it back again. Once you do the settings on your router i think this should solve your problem.

  • Shutter locks when using the camera in AV mode.

EOS Rebel T3i - Shutter locks when using the camera in AV mode.  It actually freezes up when in this mode...no it's not just allowing more light in through the shutter but rather locking in the open position.  How can I resolve this? Thank you.

Does it do this in bright sunlight at the lowest f/number?
How do you know the shutter is locked open?
Does it do this on multiple lenses?
How long does the phenomenon last, and how do you stop it?
Do you end up with an image? Is it totally overexposed and motion blurred?
Positive it is not mirror lockup?

  • Motion Blur caused by Shutter Speed 50?!

    Hi All,
I'm a GH2 user. Shoot in 50i-50ss-5.6f. I realized that is an effect such like "Motion Blur" which caused by the low shutter speed as I mentioned (50ss). Search around some forum, it is quite common. In fact, it looks not really comfortable to me! How do you solve this issue or perhaps reducing/smoothen the motion blur issue?
Picture like focus clear & sharp while talent do not move to left or right. Once his/her head move to left or right, there is motion blur after it. In fact, facused while talent did not move his/her head then.
    Thanks!

    David,
Thanks for the prompt reply and confirmation.
Perhaps, 1/50 producing slow shutter speed result--motion blur? It just like a man walk from left to right in front of my cam, and the man will be blur in motion during the recording. It'll only stay focused while the man stop and stand still. Double up the shutter speed will helps this? like 1/100? Might need your opinion.
Some friends ask me "are you shooting a speedy subject?". Not really that speed or fast. Just like what i've mention above, perhaps just walking...turn around...hand up...those might blur in 1/50 shutter speed with fully Continuos Focus Function.
I'm just curious, how could those GH2 friends shooting a Dance Genre Music of MV? They are dancing, moving fast enough...but, surprise, MV is just sharp and stay focused on every person! What do you say?
Is those below's MV consider pretty smooth? Can you tell what's the shutter speed on those? Continuos Focus + Manual Focus in use?
Thanks for now and hear from you soon! Apprciate to your precious time to answer

  • WRT600N slow wireless speeds

I have a WRT600N router.  I have one PC that is connected to the router via a wired connection.  I also have an iPad (3rd generation) that is connected to the router via a wireless connection. On my PC, I went to speedtest.net and determined that I am receiving like 20MB downloads via the wired connection.  However, my iPad only gets approximately less than 2 MB download speeds.  I have tried reseting the router and I do have what I believe to be the latest firmware update (Firmware Version: 1.01.36 build 4).     I also receive the slow download speeds when I try connecting the other wireless devices.  I assume my problem has to do with some sort of configuration setting found in the router configuration page (http://192.168.1.1/).  Can anyone please advise me what to do?  The router is only a few feet away from my iPad so the signal strength is strong.  I just don't understand why I'm receiving such slow wireless download speeds.
    Solved!

This suggestion did not work.  I tried to isolate the problem by optimizing the router's wireless settings. I used the 2.4GHz, set the radio band to standard 20Mhz then set the standard channel to 9. The laptop had the same slow wireless speeds as the iPad did.
This may be due to the IPv6 feature on your computer. One of the solutions may be disabling IPv6. If the issue still exist after performing this step and download speed is fine when connected straight to the modem then reset reconfigure could work, just use WPA2 for the security with AES and a fixed channel for wireless.

  • Very Slow Download Speed

    Hi,
I am experiencing very slow downloading speeds, when I am just normally downloading something in Safari, or downloading a torrent with upto 100 seeders.
The maximum download speed I have seen on my computer is 80kb/s, which is painfully slow for downloading the Adobe trials, when they reach about 1gb.
I have a router, connected to 2 computers, and speedtest.net has told me that my download speed is 1mb/s.
It seems like download speeds are being restricted to 80kb/s, so is there any way to 'unlock' full potential downloading speeds?
    Any help much appreciated!

I think you're making the same mistake a lot of people make.
The maximum download speed I have seen on my computer is 80kb/s
Safari reports downloads in kiloBYTES per second, not kilobits, so that 80KB/s translates to about 640 kilobits per second.
downloading the Adobe trials, when they reach about 1gb
Really? 1 gigabit per second? I assume that's a typo.
speedtest.net has told me that my download speed is 1mb/s
therefore your downloads are progressing at about 64% of maximum. That sounds about right - you won't get maximum throughput for every download - it will vary based on server location, network load and more.
