EOS Mark III 1D sRAW. When??????

EOS Mark III 1D sRAW support please!
Are Apple going to support sRAW ?
The simple thing would be to shoot in RAW, except i shoot lots of reportage weddings where my clients
print no larger than a4. I return from a shoot with 20 gig of data. If sRAW was supported i could half that, also saving on HD space, backup etc.
I see the new canon 40D also shoots sRAW, so this IS a format Canon are including on new SLR's.
Adobe Lightroom supports sRAW, so why not Aperture?
Come on Apple

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
As I'm sure you recall from reading the Terms of Use you agreed to when signing up to the forum, this is a User to User forum. Apple aren't here, and they won't hear what you're saying.

  • Big black marks after rendering  DNxHD Codec after using some effects, using Eos Mark III footage on FCP7

    Dear All,
I hope you can help me. Working on an IMac with FCP 7. It's the first time that I am using footage shot with Canon EOS Mark III. I did not expect this to be such a problem as it was almost impossible to edit with the footage, as I kept on getting the beach ball and then it would crash. Finally fixed the problem by downloading the DnxHD Codec and was able to do a rough edit on a compressed timeline to make the job faster and show a rough cut to the client.
Now I am trying to cut an HD version, where I'm using the same footage with matched timeline settings and when I don't do anything and render it, it looks fine. The minute I use an effect (e.g colour correction or a simple crop) and render, I literally get big black blotches or marks all over the image. Any advise on where I should look to fix the problem?
    Many thanks!
    Amanda

Convert the footage to ProRes LT before editing.
Your camera shoots H.264 and Final Cut Pro does not like that one bit.
You can use FCP's Log & Transfer function to do this (you might need to install a Canon Plug-in first) or you can do the conversion in Compressor.

  • PS CS6 does not recognize my EOS Mark III

It is no problem to use the lens correction in PS CS6 with my EOS 7D and the 24-105 IS L lens. Using my new EOS Mark III with the same lens, Photoshop does not recognize the lens. And in the dropdown menu, where you can normally choose the camera type, Canon is no available (Nikon, Pentax, Sony... are available.). Why is that so? Lightroom 4 has no problem with that issue.

    Hi Noel,
I know fairly little about how Adobe accumulates lens profile data, but I have always thought that it's at least in part user-submitted (though I'll be darned if I've ever run across a description of how to do it).
You should hopefully find informaion here:

    And can ask questions here:

I don't keep up with this utility so I can't say if it's very active. The last update reads 4/2011.

  • Canon EOS 5D Mark III and Tamron lens

I have just ordered a EOS Mark III body and a Canon 70-200 F/2.8 II USM IS lens. Now I want a wide angle zoom lens to complete the package. I'm interested in a 24-70 f/2.8 lens. Canon's version does not have an image stabalizer and is over $2000. Tamron offers the same focal and aperture in their 24-70 f/2.8 with an image stabalizer for around $1300. Are there any issues concerning using a Tamron lens on a Canon body?

Really folks, when I joined this forum I had no idea it was for only Canon related issues and did not mean to insult the hosts. I am a Canon gal. I also own a Canon 7D. I wish all my equipment could be Canon. I have just spent a great deal of time and money researching and purchasing a Canon 5D Mark III and the Canon 70-200 F/2.8 II USM IS lens. I don’t want to settle for less. But now to complete the package I really want a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. I would have no doubts whatsoever about the Canon even at their price if it had IS. I do not want to regret not having the f.2.8 as I may be in some low light situations during my travels, or the IS as I may not be able to handle a camera and lens of that weight without a tripod. I bought the best tripod I could find made of carbon fiber( I won’t mention the name). It is compact, very light and has a load capacity of 25lbs. I plan on using it most of the time but there will be times that I just won’t have time to set it up.
I have read a lot of reviews and 90% of them regret not having IS. After comparing the Tamron with the Canon on other sites that test different products, there didn’t seem to be too much difference in performance of either lens. Canon was favored as it should be, but for the price comparison and no IS it failed to make that big of an impression. I think the manufacturers of Canon know this and will probably come out with another version that includes IS. As Bob said…“if a competitor's lens is well regarded for whatever reason, it's in Canon's interest to know that and to understand why. And if a Tamron lens makes a 5D3 affordable by someone who would otherwise buy a Sony, I think Canon would gladly take his money.” That’s an excellent point. And Bob, I have considered the Canon 24-70 f/4 but I really feel that maximum aperture over the total focal range is a plus that only 2.8 can give.
Ebbigs 1, I have considered the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 but it doesn’t have IS. The price certainly is appealing, but the Tamron even though more expensive is a better lens (from what I‘ve read). I do agree about the L quality and durability of the Canon lens however and I would buy it if not for the IS. I am getting ready for a long trip and am in need of a wide angle zoom lens as soon as possible.
I came here to find out if anyone knew if there were any issues with the Canon mount accepting a Tamron as I have never used anything but a Canon lens on my Canon cameras. Thank you for reading my rather long winded response and I apologize if I have offended anyone.

  • SRaw support for Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III

I just shot some images in sRaw and was suprised to find the "unsupported image format" message...
I'm using Ap2, 10.5.2 and the latest graphics libraries...
Is this not supported or am I experiencing a unique problem?
I realize the convert to DNG is a workaround - but I'd rather not...

When the 1D Mark III came out (first with sRaw), I saw someone at dpreview (a sports photographer) saying that for the sort of work he did, the resolution wasn't important, but that it would be valuable to be able to send a smaller file wirelessly (using the WFT-1 or whatever it is called) to his editor. The smaller file size would speed up transfers.
On a 1Ds Mark III, the 5MP sRaw seems more useful to me, as it is more than enough for casual shooting. Though, why you would bring a 1DsIII for casual shooting is beyond me.

  • When will finder show a thumbnail or preview of the raw file images from the Canon 5d mark iii?

I am wondering if anyone has an update on when finder will show a thumbnail for the raw files from the Canon 5d mark III? I've done all the updates possible and nothing has changed, I can't do a quick preview either, it just shows the extension image, not the actual image taken. (The symbol for crw).

I had the same problem for a Canon EOS-1D X and finally got around it by viewing the images in Adobe Bridge. Worked beautifully!

  • EOS 5D Mark III ratings don't transfer to LR 4.1

I can't see that ratings transfer to Adobe Lightroom 4.1, but they do transfer to Canon DPP just fine. I think I've looked through all EXIF and IPTC fields and can't find the ratings data anywhere in LR. Where is it supposed to show in Lightroom?
    My workflow:
    - Rate RAW images in EOS 5D Mark III on compact flash
    - Remove compact flash form 5D and plug in to USB card reader.
    - Import in Lightroom 4.1 using LR's import function (on Windows Vista 32-bit SP3)
I can't see any ratings in LR, but when looking at the images in DPP and in Windows Explorer (with latest Canon RAW codec) the ratings are there. As I can see the ratings in DPP and Explorer it feels like a setting in Lightroom isn't right.
Any help on this issue would be great.

That might be true, but I've read on numerous sites (e.g. http://www.wired.com/reviews/2012/06/canon-eos-5d-mark-iii/, http://mansurovs.com/canon-5d-mark-iii-review, http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/star_ratings_set_in_5d_mark_iii_not_ transferred_to_lightroom_v4) that in-camera ratings are transferred to LR. It just doens't seem to work for me.
Any help on this issue is very welcome.

    Hi WC!
Thanks for posting on the forum.
It is very likely that the issue is with the cards you have tried and not the camera.
You mentioned that you were going to try a faster card.
Were you able to do so yet?
If so, how did the faster card perform?
Do you experience the same issue when recording to a high-speed CF card instead of an SD card?
If this is a time sensitive-matter, additional support options are available at Contact Us.

  • Canon EOS 5d Mark III

I bought yesterday the Canon EOS 5D Mark III, when can I get the Camera RAW 6.7 for Lightroom 4.0?

Several abusive replies have been deleted from this discussion. Personal attacks on other users will not be tolerated.
Support for the 5D MklII is included in LR4.1, and how that works (including sharpening) is of course a perfectly-valid point of discussion. Whether the camera itself is sharp or not isn't anything to do with Adobe software, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I know people who think it's fine, and others who've taken their bodies apart to remove the OLPF. Both are convinced about what they see, and they'd argue about it all night.
If you put three photographers in a room you get four opinions on which camera to use, but let's keep things polite.

    Hi,
I am using my 5D Mark III with the Black Magic HyperDeck Shuttle 2 and I can't figure out how to get the camera to trigger the deck to record automatically.
Any ideas?  I thought I set all the menu settings correctly in camerra with the new firmware.
    Thanks,

  • Upgraded Adobe LR 4.1, CS6 Beta & got the Canon 5D Mark III, WHEN is next dot release Camera Raw?

I Purchased the Upgraded Adobe LR 4.1, CS6 Beta & got the Canon 5D Mark III, Mac Pro server update to Lion, WHEN is next dot release Camera Raw? My workflow has trippled in time because of this issue. I'm so frustrated with having to convert images in a slowed up piece of crap canon software package and then wait another decade for the newest LR to load the images I could crap fire! Come on Adobe, where's the release? After a few grand you'd think we'd get a better response time. As for Canon, they are not consistant with community software sharing and can kiss my *!! because to leave Adobe hanging sux!
There should be new laws that penalize jerks that screw with workflow!
Time is money, let's go Adobe!

"so there are no Adobe staff here to see your rant."
Oh, they're here    and they see it...
    BTW this might help?

  • Any idea when Lightroom 4 will have support for the new Canon 5D Mark III?

I have a new Canon 5D Mark III.  When can we expect support for this camera in Lightroom 4?

It's already in the DNG converter that's posted along with ACR 6.7 Beta.  That indicates probably the next version.

  • EOS C100 and 5D Mark III - How to use together, match settings, etc.

I shoot with both of these cameras and wondering if anyone has a reference for matching the picture settings. For example, on the C100, there is a custom preset setting 'EOS Standard' that I assume corresponds to the 'Standard' picture style on the 5D Mk III. But, what if I want to shoot cinema locked, HDR or some other way?

    percoplus wrote:
As a matter of fact, I had the 5D Mark II bundle at first, and Then I installed the new Mark III bundle with version 3 of the EOS utility. None of it is working - in terms of creating a new preset.
It seems wrong that the window that opens with 'Register User Defined Style' has a drop down with all of the default presets already in the camera. That drop down should not be there, should it? There should only be the choice to import a new preset or maybe edit an existing preset. If you wanted one of the defaults, you would select it from the previous menu window.
For your purposes, I think I'd drop back to version 2 of the EOS Utility. Version 3 is very new and is aimed at compatibility with the rather idiosyncratic version 4 of DPP. EOS 3 has worked well for me so far, but if I were having trouble with it, I'd revert.
