EOS Utility & 60D Display Mode?
When I select Zoom, 2 Display Mode buttons show up in EOS Utility. One is a Camera button which switches to a quality suited to focusing while viewing the camera's LCD monitor. The other is a Computer button which switches to a quality suited to focusing while viewing on the computer.
When I click either of these 2 buttons, nothing happens. Is there more I need to do to make the buttons work. I do a lot of macro photography and want to get the best focus possible. My Tamron 70-300 lens is always set to Auto-Focus, but I adjust focus manually in EOS Utility.
I'm using EOS Utility 2.14.10b in Vista Home Premium & WIN7.
Your help will be greatly appreciated,

EOS Utility for Mac - no "Live Mode" in Focus menu (70D)
I recently began using the EOS Utility (v. 2.1.4) application for remote shooting, and I'm having a difficult time following the instructions for manually focusing the lens. With the lens switched to AF, and after the EOS Utility has opened to show the Remote Live View window, I drag the selection rectangle to the portion of the image where I wish to focus, then click on the magnifying glass to zoom in. According to the instructions, the Focus popup menu should include several focusing options, one of which is supposed to be "Live Mode" which then allows you to use the arrow buttons to step focus the lens.
Unfortunately, "Live Mode" does not show up in this popup menu. I see "Quick Mode" and a variety of AF related choices, but "Live Mode" is no where to be found.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Thanks!johnpurlia wrote:

I have no actual knowledge of that procedure, so consider the source. But I'd think that for it to work as you intend, the lens would have to be of the type that allows itself to be manually focused while in AF mode. You don't say what lens you're using, but not all lenses fall into that category.

Canon Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility not responding
Have been using both Canon DPP and EOS Utility since Dec 09 successfully. Installed Snow Leopard in Jan 2010, still worked fine. Installed Aperture 3 in August and now the Canon software keeps shutting down on me. I contacted Canon and they said it is Apples fault (since 10.6.4) andthat it is because I am running Snow Leopard.
How can this be when it worked for 4 months fine?
Is this an issue with Aperture not wnating any ohter editing software?
I have a Canon EOS 50D camera and was exporting through the Digital Photo Professional software.
thanks to anyone that can help.EOS Utility Updater for Mac OS X

Language(s): English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish -
First, I love my Canon 60D, however the EOS Utility v2 running under MacOSX 10.9.3 has a frustrating quirk not present in EOS Utility v1.x.
Each time I manually run the EOS Utility the darn thing insists on installing itself on the Mac's list of user software to run when the system boots up. On a Mac this is called a "Login Item". You can, and I have, deleted the EOS Utility "Login Item" entry in System Preferences --> Users & Groups --> Login Items (tab) List of Login items. When I reboot it is not running in the background, which is what I want ... for lots of reasons having to do with overall OSX system stability.
However, when I connect my camera and manually run EOS Utility v2 everything works fined EXCEPT once again it insists that the utility should be run in the background anytime I bootup my Mac and re-enables itself on the Login Items list. This is not the utilities perogative. All other apps I've used understand this. They might install themselves on the Login Items list when you first install the app, but if you delete the entry on that list the app will respect your choice and will not force itself back on the list just to run the app.
QUESTION - How does the user disable this re-install on OSX's Login Item list behavior. If this can't be disabled I will downgrade to EOS v1.x or use a 3rd party app until enough users complain to Canon. I could understand if Canon wants to default to running in the background when the user first installs the software, but if the user specifically removes the entry on the Login Items list, the app should respect this user decision.
Thank you.Have tried uninstalling Canon EOS 2 utility, re-installing from scratch after a power down and cold reboot of the Mac (OSX v10.9.3), however I experience the same problem from EOS as before. No other utility on my Mac or any I have heard about has displayed EOS's rude behavior; re-asserting itself as a background task at bootup when the user has specifically tried to disable this action.
Another person who posted a comment on this thread mentioned that on a PC, EOS-3 demonstrated a somewhat related characteristic; it installed itself to run in the background everytime the PC was booted, however there was an EOS preferences field that disabled this function. So it seems odd to me that Canon thinks auto-enabling itself as a bootup background task on the computer is unusual behavior for EOS. You just forgot to include a field in MacOSX EOS preferences to disable it. Nothing is perfect, but please update the utility now that it has come to Canon's attention.
I have looked thru the Mac version of EOS-2 and have not found any similar way in EOS preferences to disable EOS from always enabling itself to run in the background when it is manually run. This is rather a bother each time EOS is used - to always have to use MacOSX System preferences to tell EOS again... and again.... and again... and again.... and AGAIN ... to leave my OS system bootup settings alone.
If there is no way to disable this unfortunate characteristic I will start posting notices on several Mac user and photography websites seeking other user's advice to disable EOS auto-startup or warn them about this problem so they can find other camera file transfer utilities as I will be doing. Very unfortunate. -
10.7.2 breaks Target Display Mode
You might find that Target Display Mode stops working after you update to 10.7.2 The solution, discovered by JohnAtBurn in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3363289, is to use Disk Utility to repair permissions. (This may be the first time repairing permissions has actually fixed anything.)
Tight VNC Viewer runs on Windows 7 and is used to connect to PCs running VNC such as Mac OS X with Screen Sharing enabled. Tight VNC has never been installed on the Mac OS X box.
The only difference between when this worked and when it stopped working is the 10.7.2 update which seems to have broken VNC. -
I just purchased the 70D and want to connect it with my Macbook for easy file sharing, but my laptop does not have a CD-ROM drive. I downloaded the utility off the website, but it won't allow me to run it without the CD-ROM that came with the camera. Anyone know how I can install the EOS utility without using the included CD-ROM?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Canon will let you download the contents of the CD.
Go to their download site here: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_70d#DriversAndSoftware
If you are running Mavericks then tell the download site that you're still running Mountain Lion (10.8) because they haven't released new software but everything I run works fine.
Pick the software section and it will display several download choices -- most of which are updates and assume you have the base version installed. But... one of them is named "EOS Digital Solution Disk Software..." with a version number and will say it's for Mac OS X. The description states this is for users who cannot use the Canon provided CD (your situation).
When you select this download, at some point a window will pop open and ask you to input the serial number of your camera. Once you have that base software, you will only ever need to download the latest updates in the future and those do not prompt for serial numbers.

Which versions of eos utility are compatible with dpp4 and 5d mark ii?
Which versions of eos utility are compatible with dpp4 and 5d mark ii? I selected "remote shooting" in dpp 4.2.1 and "A compatible version of EOS Utility not installed" msg displayed. (I installed eu 2.14.20 & DPP 4 yesterday)

Robert,Thank you for the timely response. Please note the reply received from Canon EOS Digital Support:Subject: Response from Canon - EOS Digital Cameras > EOS 5D Mark II“Normally, when using DPP 4.2.10, you would need to download and install the corresponding EOS Utility 3.2.10 for the remote shooting feature. However, at this time, the EOS Utility 3.2.10 does not support the EOS 5D Mark II.If you are shooting remotely, you will have to launch the EOS Utility 2.14 and use the controls provided on that application” My other concern is the DPP3 recipe file format “*.vrd” is not compatible with the new DPP4 file format “*.dr4”Decisions Decisions…Thank youhdevaneyYou may be in luck. New versions of DPP 4 and EOSU 3 came out this week. It's probably worth giving them a try. -
EOS utility file name preference problem
I have a EOS 7d and a Rebel XSI for several years.
I have had EOS Utility set up to put
the DR_ prefix on files from the rebel and 7D_ prefix on that camera.
This was done in the preferences Fine Name tab.
Worked like a charm for several years.
Now it does not work, when I plug in the 7D after
having downloaded frm the Rebel, the 7D_ rather thad DR_ prefix
shows up in the name in the File Name tab.
This is true even though the top of the main page says
E)S Utility - EOS 7D
That is, it recognized the camera to be the 7D
but shill has the Rebel preference values.
Am I doing something wrong, or has something changed?JimEngel,
On your desktop, right-click and select [Personalize]. Click on [Display], then look at what the size is set to. Is it set to [Larger 150%] or [Smaller 100%]? Please make sure it is set to [Smaller 100%].
Also, since the settings seem to be reversed, connect one camera and adjust the settings to where they need to be. Then, confirm the settings, close EOS Utility and disconnect the camera in that order. Do the same for the other camera. Are the settings still reversed?

EOS Utility - not launching?
I found out what was causing the problem on my computer. It was AVG Antivirus. EOS Utility stopped working on another computer and no I thought that was very peculiar. I started looking harder at my configurations and starting turning things off. Sure enough it was AVG antivirus. As soon as I disabled it the EOS utility started working. They must have had a recent update that cause the problems because it was working before. No errors in AVG so I am going to have some choice words with them. It is unacceptable to disable a program and not display any notification that you are doing it. I have spent a considerable amount of time troubleshooting this.

Same problem for me too. Camera: 5D III, OS Win7 x64 I tried to "manually" launch "EOS utility 3 .exe" and "EOS utility 2 .exe" from the folders where files are installed but I got the same problem. If I launch EOS utility in folder EOS Utility (which is in folder EU2) I can launch the program but I cannot download images. Only link active is " monitor folder". I have already tried to reinstall everything multiple times (and always re-strarting my PC between uninstalling and re-installing). Any help? Thanks!Uninstall both versions of EOSU and start over, installing only EOSU 3. One of the options displayed will be to include EOSU 2 as part of the installation, so check that option. Then when you start EOSU with its GUI, it will automatically select the correct version - in your case EOSU 3, because that's what works correctly with the 5D3. If you use it on, say, a Rebel, EOSU 2 will be used. One other thing you might do is make sure you've installed DPP 4. (DPP 3 and DPP 4 can co-exist on the same computer.) The latest versions of EOSU and DPP are more closely integrated than in the past, so it's conceivable that EOSU 3 needs DPP 4 in order for all its functionality to work correctly. -
EOS Utility v 2.13.20
I have new 70D connected via WiFi to Win 7 64 PC.
Pairs perfectly with Pairing SW and then auto starts EOS Util
Trouble is I do not want it to start EOS util
Have opened options but Start EOS Utiiltity automatically is greyed out, so I cannot check / uncheck it
Any ideas on how to stop it auto starting other than un installing it?johnpurlia wrote:
Thanks!
I have no actual knowledge of that procedure, so consider the source. But I'd think that for it to work as you intend, the lens would have to be of the type that allows itself to be manually focused while in AF mode. You don't say what lens you're using, but not all lenses fall into that category.

EOS Utility not working with Windows 10
Hi all, I just upgraded to Windows 10, and immediatly ran into the problem that is described in this thread about Windows 8: http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Software/Eos-Utility-problem/td-p/1189 After reading that thread I decided to unplug the other USB devices I had in the computer at the time (Garmin Watch, USB key, smart phone) and turn off the camera. I then turned on the camera and ran the EOS utility and it found my camera and worked correctly. Clearly this problem is still not resolved, but that simple work-around gets me downloading my pictures again. There are a lot of other things people tried in the above thread, but I just unplugged the USB devices and was good to go.
Well......your option works... but i found another solution, bit of searching but it works.Through the startup folder of windows the eos utility will auto start when starting windows.but if you edit the shortcut in the startup folder to start "eos utility 2" (leave the rest of the shortcut in place) it will bring up the utility apparently in a different mode (or another version of it ) that will recognize the camera as soon as you conect it (and switch it on ) have not yey found out how to start it in the system tray but will keep looking

Re: EOS Utility for the iPad?
There is an IOS app but from Nick or On One software but the last time I looked it was $24.95. Plus you need to connect the camera to a WiFi enabled computer. So it is like shooting tethered with the ability to control your camera remotely. Being that I am a street and landscape photog I never saw the value.
SamIf you use one of the more recent generation of wireless file transmitters on your camera then it is possible to "effectively" use EOS Utility on the iPad or any other device with a web browser.
WFT units, usually the Mk II transmitters, support HTTP mode, configure this then browse to the camera's ip address then you can choose remote control, there's a simple version and an advanced version.
I wrote about this on my site in January.

Of course this means you need to get a WFT for your camera that supports the HTTP feature. So if you have the EOS 5D Mark II / III, EOS 7D or EOS 1D Mark III / EOS-1Ds Mark III, EOS-1D Mark IV or EOS-1D X then you are set...

Is there a way that I can automatically transfer every image snap, without having to execute the command on EOS Utility? Knowing that WFT modules on 5D that FTP mode can do this, but 6D onboard Wi-Fi is pretty useless.
Also I realise if I shoot RAW+JPG, it transfer both files instead of JPG only, which takes so much of the time. While transferring files the camera is not functional too. What are you running the EOS Utility on? A laptop? Or mobile device?

I was wondering if there will ever be an iPad version of the EOS utility? I'd rather use my iPad than a laptop to setup a shot with.
