EOS Utility on Mac with Original 5D

I am trying to tether my original 5d on a Mac running OS 10.8.x. I can tether a 5D mkIII, but not the 5D mkI(original).
Is there something I am missing, or has the original 5D been excluded from the newer software?

Hi whphoto!
Thank you for posting.  The newer software that is required for your EOS 5D Mark III and OS 10.8.x no longer supports the original EOS 5D.  In order to download the images from the camera, you will need to use a card reader.

  • EOS Utility for Mac - no "Live Mode" in Focus menu (70D)

    I recently began using the EOS Utility (v. 2.1.4) application for remote shooting, and I'm having a difficult time following the instructions for manually focusing the lens. With the lens switched to AF, and after the EOS Utility has opened to show the Remote Live View window, I drag the selection rectangle to the portion of the image where I wish to focus, then click on the magnifying glass to zoom in. According to the instructions, the Focus popup menu should include several focusing options, one of which is supposed to be "Live Mode" which then allows you to use the arrow buttons to step focus the lens.
    Unfortunately, "Live Mode" does not show up in this popup menu. I see "Quick Mode" and a variety of AF related choices, but "Live Mode" is no where to be found.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem?
    Thanks!

    I have no actual knowledge of that procedure, so consider the source. But I'd think that for it to work as you intend, the lens would have to be of the type that allows itself to be manually focused while in AF mode. You don't say what lens you're using, but not all lenses fall into that category.

  • EOS Utility not working with Windows 10

    Hi all,   I just upgraded to Windows 10, and immediatly ran into the problem that is described in this thread about Windows 8: http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Software/Eos-Utility-problem/td-p/1189 After reading that thread I decided to unplug the other USB devices I had in the computer at the time (Garmin Watch, USB key, smart phone) and turn off the camera.  I then turned on the camera and ran the EOS utility and it found my camera and worked correctly. Clearly this problem is still not resolved, but that simple work-around gets me downloading my pictures again.  There are a lot of other things people tried in the above thread, but I just unplugged the USB devices and was good to go.

    Well......your option works... but i found another solution, bit of searching but it works.Through the startup folder of windows the eos utility will auto start when starting windows.but if you edit the shortcut in the startup folder to start "eos utility 2" (leave the rest of the shortcut in place) it will bring up the utility apparently in a different mode (or another version of it ) that will recognize the camera as soon as you conect it (and switch it on ) have not yey found out how to start it in the system tray but will keep looking

  • Canon EOS Utility downloading issues with 7D mk2

    I actually have 2 different 64GB cards. One CF and SD. So if one craps out raw is on SD.
    Yes directly from camera to PC. Battery is full. No overheating as far as I can tell.
    Going to try few more things....

    TCampbell wrote: ... So far as I can tell... Lightroom wont let me touch the images until the entire import process is finished...  Sure it will. Just try it! You also can set up Lightroom to "watch" a particular folder for new images and even to automatically Import them, creating folders as need, saving copies, changing file names, adding copyright info and such. I don't do this because I don't use LR for downloads. I just drag and drop, then Import into LR from the folder I created for the images. I shot nearly 3000 images at an event last Sunday (it was a short day... only about 6 hours... some days I shoot upwards of 5000). Anyway, six 16GB CompactFlash cards full. Each takes about 15 minutes to copy files off it, so ended up a couple hours work downloading, Importing, sorting and then renaming them. (I prefer to do these things "hands-on"). I was already editing some fo the first images while the downloads and Importing were being done in the background. Then the "real work" started, going through all 3000 making selections, doing minor adjustments, crops/straightening, and then making watermarked proof copies. I've been at it for 3 full days and will probably need most of today to wrap it up. My original 7Ds "only" shoot at 8 fps... but one of the problem with high frame rates is all the post-processing work it makes for, after the fact! ***********

  • I am running my canon camera on the EOS utility program for mac, and i was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut to start video recording, instead of using the mouse.

    I am using EOS utility for MAC to run my canon camera at work. I have a foot switch connected to my macbook that allows me to take snapshots with my foot while i work ( i am a dentist and i have my camera hooked to a microscope). the way i did that is by programming a keyboard shortcut that snaps photos on EOS utility, to the foot switch software.
    So my question is: On EOS there is a video recording function, so i was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut or if i can create a keyboard shortcut for the start/stop record function for video recording..

  • Canon Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility not responding

    Have been using both Canon DPP and EOS Utility since Dec 09 successfully. Installed Snow Leopard in Jan 2010, still worked fine. Installed Aperture 3 in August and now the Canon software keeps shutting down on me. I contacted Canon and they said it is Apples fault (since 10.6.4) andthat it is because I am running Snow Leopard.
    How can this be when it worked for 4 months fine?
    Is this an issue with Aperture not wnating any ohter editing software?
    I have a Canon EOS 50D camera and was exporting through the Digital Photo Professional software.
    thanks to anyone that can help.

  • EOS Utility update issue

    Hi all.
    I recently purchased a Canon 600D and I wanted to start experimenting with timelapses.
    I have done timelapses before using a 450D and the Canon EOS Utility, which I found to be perfect for what I needed.
    I have installed the EOS Utility that came with the 600D, but that "cannot be used with my current operating system", which is Mac OS X 10.7.5. I have read that a number of other people have had a similar issue, but that their problems were solved by updating the EOS Utility using the 2.13.0 updater which is available for download from the Canon website. This is where my problem lies.
    I have managed to download the update installer, mount the .dmg file and get access to the installer. However, when I click on the installer, it extracts the files and then nothing. There is a little movement in the dock as it it's trying to do something (looks like a question mark comes up and then disappears again) but then nothing. This installer was downloaded from Canon's website, so assume it's not corrupted or anything like that?
    Any help or advice would be massively appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Matt

    Hi - Just wondering if you have figured out a solution to this problem. I am having the same issue on OSX Lion and have had no resolve after hours of searching through internet forums.

  • T3i mavericks - EOS Utility update not working

    I recently upgraded to MAVERICKS.  I downloaded and followed the instructions for updating eu2.14.10x-installer.dmg.zip but I am still getting the error message "cannot be used with this version of the operating system"  ????

    EOS Utility is now up to v3.x.  You may want to update to the newer version.
    I was on Mavericks  using EOS Utility 2.13 with no trouble, but I am now on Yosemite and had to upgrade it to v3.0.  When you install 3.0 it actually installs both the latest 2.x series (2.14) as well as 3.0.  It seems to auto-decide which one to launch based on the attached camera.  However... both EOS Utility 2.14 and 3.0 and they are with the new OS.
    You might just want to upgrade to 3.0.

  • I want to de-install mac-excel test version and get the error message: you have not the privileges to de-install. Please login with the Mac-OS account you have installed mac-excel originally'. I don't know this account anymore. I am sysadm

    I want to de-install mac-excel test version and get the error message: 'You have not the privileges to de-install. Please login with the Mac-OS account you have installed mac-excel originally'. I don't know this account anymore. Possibly it does not exist anymore. anybody out there who can help ?

    Hi, I may suggest to activate the root account and try the uninstall process from that account. To do so, you have to:
    Go to System Preferences a open up the Users pane;
    On the left side of the pane, you shuold see Login Options;
    Enabled editing option clicking on the lock (it will ask your password);
    Once the pane is enabled, you should see something like Server Account Network (sorry my OS is in italian, so I don't exactly know the right translation), and right next to it a button;
    Click on that button, and a new pane shows up. Click on Open Directory Utility, and on the upper bar of OS X click on Edit;
    Select Enable Root Account (you can set a password, or not);
    Done that, you should log out and when the login window show up, type on the user field "root" and the password you choose;
    Theorically, from this account you will be able to unistall the application.
    After completing your task, I reccomend you to disable the root account, just by loggin in your personal account and repeating the steps I described before. Hope it helps

  • Problems with Canon EOS Utility & Canon 5D Mark II

    Canon EOS utility cannot see my 5D Mark II connected via USB.
    I've installed the latest 5D firmware (1.2.4), latest EOS Utility (2.7.2) and i'm running Snow Leopard 1.6.2.
    When I open EOS utility it cannot recognize the camera, neither with Snow leopard default photo import application.
    How can i solve it? Already tested the usb cable and all the option under camera menus...

    Yes, just started using this and noticed pretty soon afterwards. Seems to happen when I start clicking around or doing anything that uses the processor more than just surfing the web, but that's just anecdotal. I immediately stopped and started using MPEG Streamclip, but I really want the timecode.
    Most recently, I had Log and Transfer open, transcoding some 7D footage, and a few of the clips didn't come in—they were left with the red stop-sign symbol/exclamation point. When I clicked to "retry," it stopped importing the current clip and started on the clip I retried. I clicked "retry" on another unimported clip, and again, the clip import stopped and the new clip began processing. I let it go through and, after the checking the footage, I discovered it had been incorrectly named the first clip's filename! Needless to say, I hand-checked every file to make sure it was the right duration (a few weren't), deleted the files from the Capture Scratch folder, and reimported—making sure I didn't touch the computer.
    I hope they fix this bug, whatever it is.
    BTW, I've experienced it on two separate Mac Pros.

  • Will the EOS utility for the Rebel SL1 work with the 40D?

    We first bought the Rebel EOS 300D many years ago and then upgraded to a 40D at my wifes shagrine (heavier) and have now bought my wife a new Rebel SL1.  I would like to be able to download all three camers on my computer Win7 and her's WinXP.  I'd like to know if the new discs that came with the SL1 has an EOS Utility application that will handle all three or at least the 40D and SL1.
    Thanks much,
    Bob

    Hi, RobTrek6500!
    The version of EOS Utility on the CD that came with your Canon EOS Rebel SL1 will allow you to download photos from both the Rebel SL1 and the EOS 40D, on both Windows 7 and Windows XP.
    Unfortunately, the "Original" EOS Digital Rebel, known internationally as the EOS 300D, is no longer supported by current versions of EOS Utility, and going to an earlier version will cut out support for the later-model cameras.  EOS Utility's setup does not support having two separate versions on the same computer, so we recommend sticking with the newest version as it will be the most convenient for you.
    The best workaround for this is to use a memory card reader for the original EOS Rebel.  Many desktop computers have CF card slots already built in, and if you don't already have a CF card slot, a CF card reader can be purchased for a low price at almost any electronics store.  This turns your CF card into the equivalent of a flash drive, and image files can be dragged and dropped onto your computer with ease.  Meanwhile, you can continue to use the current version of EOS Utility to download images from the Rebel SL1 and the EOS 40D.
    We hope this helps!

  • Is the canon eos rebel t3i compatible with Mac osx 10.9.1?

    Is the canon eos rebel t3i compatible with Mac osx 10.9.1?
    I am trying to transfer my photos from my camera to my Mac.
    I have downloaded the software for the camera to my Mac BUT it cannot transfer the photos.
    EOS Utility states that it cannot be used with this version of the operating system.
    I am running on OSX 10.9.1
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    I would try uninstalling the canon software and then just plug your camera into your Mac. iPhoto should be all the software you should need.
