EP 5.0 SP4 - best version to upgrade

Hello Experts,
Our client is using EP5.0 SP4 with SAP4.6C version and IIS server, but present requirement is to upgrade this version or to support maximum number of users(around 20 k users more, so in total it has to support around 35 k users).
Could anybody please let me know how we would proceed with with, I mean I have to understand myself answers for the follwoing questions.
1) What is the best version and system configuration to support around 30 to 35 k users.
2) What about the current SAP version. ( SAP4.6c), do we need to upgrade this as well ? or can we use the same SAP version and only upgrade EP to someother version. If so, what will be the impacts on EP and SAP.
Also, please send some links regarding the same.
Thanks in advance

fundamentally you are talking about a major upgrade here.  Because of the version of EP5.0 you are on - it is not trivial.
Technically you dont have to upgrade your backend systems but it is highly recommended for scalability and stability purposes.  There may be licence / support considerations to think about - cant really comment because sometimes it depends on your relationship with SAP.  If you ask SAP they will blind you with the complete upgrade - you can however safely move to EP6.0 whilst maintaining your backend systems as is.
To be honest id recommend you move as quickly as possible to a Netweaver platform across the board.  Unfortunately for portal you only really have 2 options - (1) the upgrade path which is patch to EP5.0 SP6 then migrate to NW2004 (essentially to at least EP6.0 SP9) and then optionally on to EP7.0.
(2) Depending on the amount of iviews and content you have to move - you might consider starting again - it may take less time than the upgrade path !!!!!  You can always transfer your content out into the filesystem (make it an FSDB).
Not trivial and needs careful planning.  You have to bear in mind the change from EP5 to EP6 is a massive shift architecturally - you may find some of your portal content no longer works at all.  EP6.0 to EP7.0 is a MUCH smaller issue since the bulk of the architecture is the same.

Want to upgrade iMac os x 10.5.8. suggestions as to what next best version I should go to?

If it is a PPC iMac (G4 or G5) Leopard 10.5.8 is as far as it can go.
If an Intel iMac, read on:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

  • What is the best way to upgrade iTunes?

I'm currently running iTunes 8.0.2.20 to work with my iPod Touch 2G and Nano 4G. All is working quite well so I'm rather hesitant about upgrading. But more and more content is requiring an upgrade to the latest iTunes version. If I decide to take the leap, what is the best route for upgrading, ensuring that my music is not lost and that I can revert back to my current version if something goes wrong? I know to backup my library. I try to do that regularly. Should I uninstall my current version and all other Apple associated programs, download new version and install OR do the upgrade from within my current version of iTunes?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is a good idea to back up the library files, iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music library.xml before upgrading. It shouldn't be necessary but your never know... You may be glad of it if you want to downgrade.
If you want easy downgrading, save the last iTunes set up file if you have it, maybe rename it iTunesseteup8.exe so it isn't overwritten by the new installer.
It is safest not to upgrade from in iTunes.
Download the installer from the Apple site and save it on your PC, then run it from you PC.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
The installer takes care of any uninstalling that is needed.

  • Best Version of SQL Server to Run on Windows 7 Professional for Large Data Sets

My company will soon be upgrading my work PC from XP to Windows 7 Professional.  I am currently running SQL Server 2000 on my PC and use it to load and analyze data large volumes of data.  I often need to work with 3GB to 5GB of data, and
have had databases reach 15GB in size.  What would be the best version of SQL Server to install on my PC after the upgrade?  SQL Server Express just won't cut it.  I need more than 2GB of data and the current version of DTS functionality to
    load and transform data.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Its difficult to say what would be best for you. You can install SQL Server 2012 standard edition because that is supported on Windows 7 SP1, enterprise edition is not supported. SQL Server 2012 express has now database limitation of 10G which does not includes
File stream size and log file size but does not provide SSIS features.
Just have a look at features supported by various editions of SQL Server it will help you in deciding better
I inclination is towards SQL Server 2012 because its now with SP2 and more stable than 2014( my personal opinion)

  • Question on best version of CUPC to use with CUPS 7.0(8)

    Hello
I just loaded CUPS version 7.0(8) and was not sure of the best version of CUPC to use on the client/
I saw there is a engineering release for CUPC 7.1.1a but I can find the reedme they mention that talks about specific fixes in that version.
I also downloaded CUPC version 7.1.2 and 7.0.2 just in case.
I am using CUCM version 7.1.5
    thanks

I would go for the latest 7.1(2), if TAC identifies an existing defect it would require an upgrade anyways as no fixes will be provided for those older releases. So not really a point in starting off with those old releases for an initial deployment. For that same reason you may want to load 7.0(9) on CUP. Both CUP 7.0(9) and CUPC 7.1(2) are fully tested releases and not engineering specials.

  • Best approach to upgrade MaxDB AND move to new OS release

What would be the best approach to upgrade Contentserver MaxDB 7.5 on W2K server (32-Bit) to MaxDB 7.7 on Windows 2008 Server x64 (R2?)?
    1.  a) Upgrade MaxDB on the existing installation
         b) Create a complete backup
         c) Install latest release on new machine
         b) recover with backup from existing installation on new machine
    2. a)  Create a complete backup from existing installation
        b) Install same release on new machine
        c) recover with backup from existing installation on new machine
        d) upgrade to latest release on new machine
Both approaches share the problem that you have to run a OS/DB release constellation that is not released according to SAP PAM. The second approach has the advantage that the source system will not be touched and is still available in the original status if something fails. But the main issue is the compatibility question (7.5 not released for W2008, 7.7 not released for W2K)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Matthias

    Natalia,
    thanks for your answer.
    > Do you have Content Server 6.40 ?
    yes.
    > the MAXDB version 7.5 is not released on W2008
    neither is 7.7 on W2K.
    > I recommend to go with 1 option.
    Which would be this one:
    >>1. a)Upgrade MaxDB on the existing installation
So can I upgrade to 7.7 on W2K though it is not released for this combination?
    Best Regards,
    Matthias

  • What is the best way to upgrade from OES2 running on SLES 10

Tonight was so frustrating. I was half way doing upgrade of an OES 2 SP3 (running on SLES 10 sp4). Wanted to upgrade to SLES 11 SP2 and OES 11 SP1.
Is there a way to just patch the server using installation source as the ISOs? Because I was upgrading it the traditional way (take backup, make a clone of the machine, shut down, insert SLES 11 CD, upgrade system, bring it up, OES patch, etc) And I was forced to stop half way because the customer expects things to be done within 2 hours or so with minimal downtime. I have previously patched using installation source but that was only to upgrade the service pack version, not the core OS build.
This is such a ridiculous requirement. Why is it that we can't just install a "move-to-oes-11-sp1" package from online updates? There must be a way to do this through online, but the severs are registered to get updates only for oes2 and sles 10.
Someone help me out this is getting just silly.

    As per the Novell documentation:
    https://www.novell.com/documentation...a/bhu19u7.html
The only SUPPORTED upgrade path from OES2 SP3 64-bit is offline media, or offline network.
I do not know the technical details/reasoning why you can't use the channel, but I suspect there's a valid reason for it.

  • What is the best version of Final Cut Studio

I'm not a pro but not an amateur video maker so I want to upgrade from FCE 4. I focus on action sports. The question I have is whats the best version of FCS? Thanks!

The current version. (Your profile says you're running Snow Leopard. You would want the current version of FCS, not an earlier version.)
What do you want to do that FCE4 seems not to be able to do?
What specific model Macbook do you have? Models with integrated Intel graphics processors are not supported for FCS.

  • The best version of Safari in the version 3 ?

When I upgraded 10.4.8 to 10.4.11 two years ago, I believe all I did was just download from Apple, install -restart. I don't remember doing any archive/install or things that take 1 hour or so to do.
    Is it that simple ?
Also, I did upgrade directly from 10.4.8 to 10.4.11 (did not take 10.4.9 and 10.4.10 )
I mention that because in O.S I remember I had to upgrade 3 version, even if I kept it only for a few minutes, when I went from OS 9.0.4 to OS 9.2.2 (9.1 --> 9.2--> 9.2.2)
It was advised to do so either by Apple or by people here on discussion.
I guess it doesn't matter with OS X. And I went from Safari 3.04 directly to 3.2.1
I have some problems for months now (slow, beachball) which I will post later.
I have another drive that is still on 10.4.8 and Safari 3.0.4 and I want to upgrade that to 10.4.11 and either keep Safari 3.0.4 or something newer.
what is the best version of Safari in the version 3 ? For someone who has 10.4.11 ? Anything from 3.0.4 to.. whathever but not 4.0

Well, you must have been upgrading
    But of course!
not all version are equal; some are stable, some are full of bugs
Never noticed. What I did notice, and continue to notice, is that not all third-party 'enhancers' and input managers are kept compatible with the latest version/s of Safari, and that is the root cause of 98% of problems some users have with any version of Safari.

  • Best version of Photoshop Elements

Can anyone tell me which version of PSE is the best to use with SL? Until yesterday, I was running PSE3 on Jaguar. I now have a new computer running SL and I use PSE a lot. Seems with everything I've read, I haven't been able to determine the best version. Thanks for your help

I did not upgrade to SL. I actually had someone buy me a brand new computer running SL!
Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry I wasn't clear: if you do an upgrade to SL on a computer that had PSE 4 on it, PSE 4 will keep running, but it's very hard to cajole it into installing from scratch in 10.6.
    Enjoy your new computer!

  • Best way to upgrade iTunes?

What's the best way to upgrade iTunes? I have an older version right now and I want to upgrade to 9.2. Do I simply install 9.2 over the same directory as my 9.1.1? Do I lose the library and settings?

Do I simply install 9.2 over the same directory as my 9.1.1?
    Yes.
Do I lose the library and settings?
No, but as when installing or updating any application, you should make a backup.
You can backup the \Music\iTunes\ folder to keep everything (playlists, music. ratings, videos, etc.) that is important.

  • Best way to upgrade from Jaguar to Tiger?

I am upgrading from Jaguar 10.2.8 on my G4 DP1.25 machine to Tiger 10.4.3 and would like some advice on how to best do the upgrade before i start. This is my first time doing any real OS upgrade on my mac.
I used to do it all the time on my windows pc box and i'd always reformat the harddrive and start with a clean slate so to speak. That usually yeilded the best results for me. Should I start from scrtach on my mac as well or do the Archive and Install?
I am upgrading to Tiger so I can install latest version of Final Cut Production Suite and be able to take advantage of OS updates - so any thing that will help keep machine running clean and fast will help in the long run.
I have two internal drives and can make plenty of space to do backups if need be.
Thanks for any help you can offer! ~Matt
    G4 DP1.25   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Thanks for the comments thus far "scb".
I don;t have disk warrior or techtool or the like - should i just use the first aid on the install DVD for jaguar or tiger instead?
I have a lot of third-party software and utilities installed in jaguar - most probably aren't compatible with Tiger so would I be better to erase and install after I backup my data? I think i'd rather not have all this stuff get uselessly brought into the new install of Tiger. Fresh and clean is probably better in the long run right?
I'm just worried that i'll end up like a lot of other people in this forum with start-up or other problems after the upgrade. I don't think it will be a problem - the mac is pretty much a stock unit except for some software, an extra 120gb harddrive, and all the RAM is now third-party "Kingston brand" (my original apple ram died 1 week after warranty expired - argggg which caused me 3 days of discussion room surfing and a call to apple tech support to realize that i needed to go buy new RAM). All that to say i just want to be sure i do it right and don't get stuck having to spend many days/hours fixing problems... i'm a bit of a pesimist when it comes to upgrades.
    Additional thoughts?

  • Which is the best version of Discoverer with Oracle 9iAS ?

I have been told to find the best version of Oracle Discoverer for ORacle 9iAS - for
the ORacle Financials and HR (E-Business suite ) ?
Can anyone direct me to the manual where it explains the integration of
ORacle Discoverer with E-Business suite ?

    Hi
You can only use Discoverer 9.0.2 with Application Server 9iAS. This is because Discoverer 9.0.2 is an integral part of that server. However, Discoverer 9.0.2 was never certified against Oracle Applications so you cannot use it to connect and run with 11i.
I would question why you are trying to do this because 9iAS is desupported as is the Discoverer version that goes with it. You should upgrade your AS to 10g 10.1.2 and take advantage of the latest version of Discoverer.
Please take a look at this posting on my blog: http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com/2006/04/april-2006-oracle-discoverer-patch.html
which lists all the versions of Discoverer along with the correct patch levels and desupport dates.
The integration of Discoverer with E-Business Suite can be found in a number of documents on MetaLink:
    313418.1 - discusses Discoverer 10g and 11i
