EP 6.0 SP2 to NW Portal SR1 migration

I am doing EP 6.0 SP2 to NW EP SR1 migration following How To .. Guide Version 9.00- july 2005.
Page 40, 4.1.1 item 3. Location the KM software components on the NW'04 SR1 installation DVD, in the folders at ...\EP-KMC\. choose and redeploy all the software components in these folders.
I assume that this means component DEV EP-KMC directory and KMC directory. I should redeploy all SDA files in all directories under KMC which are FS, J2EE and JDDSCHEMA.
Questions:
Do I need to redeploy ear files in APPLICATION directory under J2EE?
If I follow the check list it just say redeploy SDA files, I should not do it.
If I follow item 3 in page 40, it require redeply all the software components in these folders, I should do it. I should also redeploy files under DQE and PORTAL and TOOLS since they are all under EP-KMC folder.
If How to guide do not specify the folder \EP-KMC\ and the next sentence, I know what to do. It just confusing me. Is there anybody has done the upgrade can give me a idea?
By the way, according to SAP note #732458, after completion of the portal migration,I must re-apply CM&COLL SPS09 patch 3. But it did not tell which step it should be done. Any advice?

Hi Xaiobo,
I do not remember the exact folder names, but the idea there is that you should redeploy <u>all</u> KMC SDAs again.
(afterwards, the Migration Tool will deploy the EP SDAs automatically).

10.0 to 10.3 are not tiger. 10.0 = Cheetah, 10.1 is Puma, 10.2 is Jaguar, and 10.3 is Panther. Ironically 10.3 is the fastest of the bunch.

MDM iView problem from Business Package in Portals SR1

Hi,
I installed MDM Business Package 3.0 in Enterprise Portals 6.0 SR1. When i execute the iView in Portals, its asking me to download the security file. When i change the iView property from WebGUi to WinGui, its working properly.
Did anyone faced the same problem.

please turn off the Accessibility option in your portal personalization options (upper right corner, Personalize -> User Profile -> Activate Accessibility Features:
(Screen reader required) -> turn it off.
Does it work now as expected ?

LDAP loadbalancing EP 6.0 SP2 / Patch 35 portal based on J2EE 6.20

Currently our EP is using LDAP authentication against a DNS alias which utilizes round-robin resolution to the domain controllers in our environment. We occasionally have an issue where a windows admin, or DNS admin takes a server down for maintenance. It seems that upon startup each j2ee server process will attach to an IP. If the server becomes unavailable the authentication requests will fail dropping entries in the ume logs.
Our intent is to move toward a high-availability setup detailed in:

Does anyone know a method of determining which IP address a j2ee server process has attached to? If we could determine the IP's it would greatly simplify our testing efforts.

In the cluster administration, the Server IP column reflects the IP of the OS instance on which the server runs. The question is relative to which LDAP server each server process grabs from a round-robin type resolution.
Any other thoughts?

SAP R/3 4.7 SR1 Migration to MSCS cluster environment

Hi all,
We are planning to move our existing standalone server R/3 production server to cluster environment.
I have some queries regarding this migration
Our R/3 system is running on SAP R/3 4.7x1.10 SR1 on Windows 2003 and Oracle 9.2
1. Central Instance has to be installed in local disk or shared disk
2. Is it correct to R3load procedures to export data from old server and import during Database installation
3. Presently our server is running with kernel 640, but for the new installation kernel will be 620. So when can i upgrade kernel immediately after central instance installation or after CI and DB Instance installation.
Give me some inputs

Hi, the best place for your questions would have been the forum SAP on Windows.
However, here the answers.
1) CI must be on a shared disk
2) Right, if you don't change the database platform and its release you can also use backup/restore
3) Right. You can also perform the installation with the latest NW04 installation master

After creating it is building successfully using deprecated dependencies.
I need to resolve those dependency before deploying into 7.31 server?

Hi,
Did you find any deprecated API in class files(*.java), It represents like below image.
Then you have to find relevant jar and replace with a new one.
Second option is to create new external library with required jars(Replace deprecated jars with new jars) and give reference to existing dc.

Portal Content migration from EP 6.0 to 7.3

Hi Guys,
We are upgrading NW ortal from 7.0 to 7.3.
Some of the content on current portal (7.0) is from EP 6.0 , and we want that too to migrate to new portal 7.3.
The content includes some XRPM Business Package and Cprojects stuffs.
Please suggest what should be approach for the same. What difficulties/challanges we might face ?

try with theme editor -> import and export
This would have happened because of version mismatch. The standard themes will be automatically updated but the custom theme is of older version. It is better to recreate the theme.
you have to export themes to a zip file and then import this exported theme into the target portal.
I hope you should redesign the old custom themes as they may not work peoperly due to version mismatch.

Portal content migration from 7.0 to 7.3

Greetings,
We have installed a clean version of 7.3 portal environment (vanilla).
I have transferred all 7.0 portal content (most of it - WAD reports & ECC transaction iViews) to 7.3 environment by using standard transport mechanism.
After I execute any of those transferred reports iViews, I receive a portal exception, which doesn't appear in the default trace log file, or any other log file whatsoever.
My question is - is there a special procedure to move standard portal content (like WAD reports) to 7.3 environment, or a regular transport would work as well?

There is no special procedure to be followed for transport mechanism. But make sure that the installations are made correctly and the system for communication has been created and tested the connection successfully in Sys admin -> Sys landscape
Paste the exception which you are getting. Also where did you look the logs?

WSUS 3.0 SP2 master server cross-forest migration impacts

    Hello to all, I'm preparing a cross-forest migration and have one WSUS 3.0 SP2 master on source forest placed in root domain. This master has 16 replicas scattered among child source domains. As I plan do migrate member servers using MS
tool named ADMT 3.2 and considering that I will firstly migrate just root domain member servers to target forest, I need to know:
   1- Will WSUS 3.0 SP2 master server work after it's migrated from source to target forest? I mean: can all its replicas still access and donwload the necessary patches from it? Will its configuration be in place (groups, schedules, etc) ?
   2- Should I need to change source domain clients WSUS GPOs to point to the just migrated master server (new FQDN name)?
   3- Is possible to change my just migrated WSUS 3.0 SP2 to be replica from a master server already present on target forest? How this move could affect its existing replicas still present on source forest?

Fundamentally yes, as long as the downstream servers are updated to use the new hostname and DNS properly resolves that hostname. NOTE: You cannot "migrate" the WSUS role using ADMT. What is your plan for "migrating" the WSUS upstream server?

Probably. Presumably the hostname and IP Address of the server are going to change.

Yes, but that's kind of a cart-before-the-horse move... which brings us back to the original question: How do you plan to "migrate" the upstream server?

Well.. it will introduce a three-tier replication hierarchy for starters, which will slow everything down by one or two days. But, really, I wouldn't worry about that because there's no real need to do this.
Suggestion and attention points will be appreciated.
Install a *NEW* WSUS server in the target forest.
Configure it as a replica of the existing master in the source forest.
Replicate.
When the replication is complete, reconfigure it as an Upstream Server and RESET the Product Category and Update Classifications to what they should be.
Synchronize with Microsoft.
When that sync is successful, enabled regular synchronizations.
Configure clients and downstream servers to sync from the new upstream server in the target forest.
When all clients and downstream servers are working with the new server, turn off the old one.

Portals DB migration SQL Server to Oracle?

Hello, Can EP6 running on Win2000/SQLserver be migrated to Oracle database. I searched OSS but couldnt find any reference (https://websmp108.sap-ag.de/nw-epmig). If possible, what would be the steps involved. Any help would appreciated

It is not possible to change the DB vendor during migration, using the migration tools, but
after upgrading EP 5.0 to EP 6.0 NW2004s on SR1 we can use the heterogeneous system copy to go from
SQL 2000 to Oracle 10g?
No cross platform (operating system) migration. Is this during migration using the migration tools
only? Or even after the EP 6.0 NW2004s on SR1 we can now then do both a DB switch and a platform swicth
(i.e. Windows/MS SQL 2000 to Unix/Oracle 10g?

Portal hardware migration

Hi Expert,
We've copied eitire data (file system level) from Actual EP PRD ( Active Active cluster) server and restored into a standalone system.We've successfully tested other server backup restoration (Java Stack) usng the same process.
Now here I'm not able to start the Despather and it is in starting mode.
I've encountered the error :

Hi,
Check with the configtool that the lockingmanager manager has the correct enqu.host and enqu.port values. I don't think you need entries in the services file...
Also, make sure you have an active network card or loopback adaptor, otherwise the message server can't be accessed

You can upgrade your portal with all usages that you have installed. You need to check upgrade guide as well.
You need to check if there is any custom development on the portal to migrate it to new version.

Problem starting up portal after my computer was upgraded to Windows XP SP2 and security lockdown

Recently our computers in the office was upgraded to Windows XP SP2, and the portal in my local machine stopped working. It was working prior to the upgrade. I'm having a very similar issue with the G6 customization install (XP SP2, .NET version of G6).

I checked the directories and both sets of DLLs are in place and show they match. I also appended (right or wrong) the ptportal_path, portal_home, and source_home paths to my environment. Current path looks like

Copy the SP2 Portal File System and then Migrate??

Hello All,
Is it possible to copy the EP6SP2 Portal FileSystem and the SQL Database on the other host and then migrate start the migration process from this host. I mean to create the export file from this new host(where we copied the fileSystem and the DB). Because anyways we have to shut down the portal while migrating, so i think this can be done..
Any ideas.
