EP - bad performance after restart
Hi Guys,
i have some troubles with EP performance after restart.
When the user logs into EP after restart, the loading of the pages takes really a lot of time.
After some time are the pages cached and the performance is OK.
Is there some way how to overcome this drawback?
Some intial caching would be great but i don't
know how to set it up.
Could you help me with solving of this issue?

Bad Performance after 10.5 upgrade
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum, this is actually my first post!
I own a MacBook pro, intel processor, and I just recently upgraded to 10.5, I have only owned my macbook for about a year, and mac is new to me. I am a unix admin at my normal 9-5 so I do know how to navigate around the os.
Here is my question;
After upgrading to 10.5 I noticed that the performance of my macbook decreased a bit? apps that normally opened withing a second, now take a few sec. just about every aspect of my system has slowed down about 20-30% from my previous 10.4.XX os. Is there anything I can change on the Mac to help boost speed? for example the new os is a lot more graphic intensive, is there anything I can turn off or stream line to help reduce the memory and cpu usage??
I use my mac for Work 99% of the time, running LightRoom and Photoshop, so I don't need the interface to be pretty!!

Paul.No. Choose a user document in finder such as a photo, text document or other file created by you in an application. Right mouse click on this file and select Get Info from the menu. At the bottom of the Get Info you will see the permissions box. Do not try to change anything here. If you try and have serious permission issues, Finder will crash and you will have to relaunch it.
RUN DISK UTILITY FIRST AND CLICK ON "REPAIR PERMISSIONS" NOT "VERIFY PERMISSIONS". IT WILL TAKE A WHILE TO RUN...ANYWHERE FROM 10 MINUTES UPWARDS...

After using terminal and checking my settings with the commands given by "FromOz" I used the following terminal commands (username is your computer user short name).

Please read all of these threads and their associated links carefully before taking the risk of using Terminal if you are not an experienced user. I am NOT one. But the previous threads helped me fix my problems.

Bad performance after analyze index
Hi,
I have a range partitioned table which recently I had to added new partitions to. After adding new partitions a particular query I had running on it started doing full table scans instead of using the index.
I read somewhere that you have to disable the primary key prior to adding new partitions and renable after completion. This I did and true, the query was using the index again. However as soon as I analyze the index, the full table scan is back.
I even tried to analyze the table using:
begin
dbms_stats.gather_table_stats
(user,'tablename',
method_opt => 'for all indexes for all indexed columns size auto',
cascade => true);
end;
Still the query doesn't improve.
I am using 9.0.1.3 on Solaris.
Any ideas on this as I'm stuck at the moment.

Equium A100-338 - bad performance after display driver installation
The display driver recently updated and since then the performance has been terrible, and the windows experience rating has gone right down. I can no longer use a lot of programs, and the internet and programs that are still working are running horrendously slow.
I have looked for the old driver, according to the dxdiag, and it is no longer available. Any ideas?

I tried the roll back, but the driver had been installed prior to the earliest restore point. it took me a while to work out what the problem was. -
Bad performance, nvidia 6800GT, v.180.22

The following text was written for some minutes ago.. Turns out, I got some new (strange) information. Please read the update below.
Just though I'd help out people who might have been in the same situation as I was; after upgrading to kernel 2.6.28 and nvidia 180.22 driver I got terrible performance when viewing videos. Even Firefox lagged when I scrolled my Twitter page. So, as I was starting to check how to downgrade, I also read nvidia wiki here on Arch linux. It turns out that my xorg config was missing one simple line which made my life better:
Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
I haven't done a thing with my xorg conf since the upgrade, so I dunno why it worked better without these three words with my old driver (v.177.82)
Anyways, hope this helps someone else out too
UPDATE:
Okai, so I restarted my computer and it turned out to be just as bad as before ..What I did when it got better was to edit the xorg cong and restart x with ctrl+alt+backspace.. So, after the restart and when I found out that the video once again was lagging i just restarted x with ctrl+alt+backspace and suddenly I could play videos without lag. wtf? So, if anyone could try to explain this to me, I'd be once again happy. Thank you! :-)

It seems that a cause of the problem can be found in post 12 in this thread.

So it turns out, (II) NVIDIA(0): Detected AGP rate: 8X is only found in the "good"-log This corresponds well with what danielomen suggested too; when I checked nvidia-settings it said PCI on bus type and after restarting X it said AGP 8X. -
SQL Server Performace After Restart
Hi Guys:
We do restart our sql servers once every month to make sure fail over clustering works.Lately we have seen that performance is pretty bad after the restarts.I am convinced its bad idea to restart the box as everything that is cached gets flushed(sql buffer
pool is 500gb).
Can you guys throw some lines on why not to restart SQL Server box;other then what i mentioned.

The answer is yes you can and should do it in some cases. You can repopulate of SQL Server buffer pool partially by
executing the same operations that populate it in the first time like stored procedures or other queries.
In my case I actually develop a small client GUI application to control a table which include all the actions that you want to do after the reboot.
You can create a job, which executes those stored procedures / queries, and when scheduling it, choose an option to start whenever Server Agent starts, since your agent also starts automatically,whenever your SQL Server restarts.
This is build all the Execution Plans and other information in the buffer.

Time Machine backups only work after restart
Hi
Getting frustrated as Time Machine backups only work after a restart. Work for a few hours and then get stuck with Backing up: XXMB of XXGB. I have left it on this for many hours ie overnight without completion
I have a Mid 2014 MBP 13 in running 10.10.2
I backup onto an external USB via a hub.
Things I have tried with review of Pondini great site which has helped with different TM backup problems.
Disk permissions and repair of SSD on MBP (were errors but did not solve issue)
Direct USB connection
Backup via Airport Extreme
Re-index spotlight
Reformat USB disk
New USB disk!

Backup completed successfully.1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:

You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:

The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. iTunes RADIO is not working.
“iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again.” Try as I may, as many as ten attempts, trying to connect after restart, after shutdown, nothing works. Just so …
iTunes STORE not “connectable” with my otherwise perfectly-working internet connection, viable, up and running for all other uses.
Simply put, firstly, I can't connect to the internet when I click on Radio. People are quite suspicious that this is Apple incompetence or your company's famous arrogance for this commonly-suffered problem that you won't or “can’t” fix.
Read the many web comments and you won’t be pleased with yourselves: the suspicion is that if you ruin internet radio on iTunes, Apple will somehow make more money on music downloads, etc. Bull.
Also, thirdly, my old playlist of 20 or so internet radio stations in the Ambient category STILL PLAYS !
Then fourth, I installed the latest available version of QuickTime Player 7.app Version 7.6.6 but it didn’t solve the problem either. I had QuickTime Player.app Version 10.2, but substituted what Apple website said was the latest, LOWER NUMBERED QuickTime Player version of 7.6.6
Fifth, I can't connect to iTunes store no matter what I do or what user group's advice I try. So I can’t buy or download anything from iTunes. Bad for business.
Sixth, I updated to the latest version of iTunes but this weird problem remains. All suggested Apple fixes or user group fixes are useless. Where is Apple’s famous technical competency, vaunted customer support?, and user-friendly product reputation? Get it back, please.
Solve this problem of yours ASAP for us, your numerous disgruntled, dissatisfied customers of iTunes. You can do better, should, and really –in all fairness- must.

IMac - Display doesn´t work after restart
My iMac 21 Display doesn´t work after restart. If I turn it off and 1 hour later I want use it again the iMac shows the white screen with the mac logo and then the display goes off. I connected an external display to check if the iMac was ON and with the external display I can login and do everything but the iMac Display doesn´t work .
If I turn it off and wait 3 or 4 hours and then turn it back on the display works OK.
This is very strange behavior I have spent hours and hours trying to fine the solution or a similar issue but nothing so I am looking help here at apple.com
BTW When I bougth the iMac 21 there were some spots over the display so the display was replaced by the provider. The warranty has expired by now.To tell you the truth, I don't know if they have to repalce the LCD panel or what they do for a bad backlight. In this reality of block or assembly replacement it probably involves repalcing the panel and not the backlight component. Don't know what it would cost. You'd have to ask that of a service center.

After updating to 10.10.3, now my Macbook Pro 15" (mid-2014) will not stay logged in. I log in after restarting, and it will stay logged in for 3-5 seconds then immediately log off and go back to the login screen. Any help?
By the way, I also updated my Macbook Pro 17" (mid-2009) and it seems to be running fine, though I haven't tried to restart it and log in. I'm afraid I won't be able to get this one to work either if I do.Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
File adapter: file_name with counter, stable after restart J2EE

we are on XI 7.0.
in a receiver file channel we have to create file names with a stable counter (7digits).
The payload is IDOC flat file after ABAP mapping (not XML format).
The bad thing with the counter is that it is not stable. After restart of J2EE engine the counter starts again more or less
from the beginning (also described in a FAQ OSS note).
Does anybody have an idea how we could realize a stable counter for file names that also increases the counter after restart of J2EE. Is individual programming necessary? module ?
We thought about SAP number ranges (DB) but how to integrate this in the file channel. Also generating the the number in ERP and send it in the IDOC to XI, but after the ABAP mapping to IDOC flat file we cannot use the payload for variable replacement.

You can achieve this by developing a Customized adapter module,
Try to maintain the counter in one of the temporary file in the XI system, read the counter number from the temporary file and increment the counter by 1.
rename the receiver filename with the sufix as counter.
replace the counter number in the temporary file with the latest counter number i.e increment by '1'.

Bad behavior after installing recent updates.
This has gone beyond irritating and is actually interfering with my use of the computer.
I typically wait to install updates, to give the community a chance to discover trouble before I put my machine at risk. Apple updates are, in most cases, spotless and useful but there have been times...
I seem to have found one of these not so sweet spots.
I just installed: "QuickTime" (7.4.1) and Security Update 2008-001 (PowerPC)
At the end of this process the first disturbing problem happened, rather than being informed that I needed to restart the machine at the end of the installation the screen did that awful 'dark window shade' and then put up the warning to hold down the power button and shut down.
I had no choice but to do this. After restarting I ran Disk Utility and Repaired the Permissions. Despite this and another restart for good measure I now have a disturbing problem. In a very periodic way, its about 1 minute, the finder opens a window and brings focus to it, overlapping whatever application I am working in at the time. I have a number of of drives in this machine and each has several partitions. No matter what partition I choose in advance the finder window always opens with the partition chosen that has the OS and applications in it.
Even writing this post is difficult because the window keeps popping up as a try to write.
I opened the console log and found something odd as well...

Thanks in advance.There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them 10.4.10. compliant. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.

If you are updating to Safari 3.0.4 (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail and Dashboard Widgets etc also rely.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.

The bad performance is because you're not specifying the primary keys of the table BKPF in your WHERE condition; BKPF usually is a big table.
What you really need is to create a new index on database for table BKPF via the ABAP Dictionary on fields BUKRS, AWKEY, GJAHR & BSTAT. You'll find the performace of the program will significantly increase after the new index is activated. But I would talk to the Basis first to confirm they have no issues if you create a new index for BKPF on the database system.

Application authentication works fine after restart

I have a problem with an application. when the users start working it works fine. After some time it starts problem.
Login page will not allow to login. As we observed threads start stuck at login page authentication.
Application configured to external LDAP authentication,we verified LDAP sever level performance which is normal.
But when we restart the managed server on which the application is hosted, it works normal.
Authentication process:
Applicaiton checks for username existance in an oracle DB , if it is found then it is authenticated by LDAP.
Observations:
Increase in opensocket count to 250 approx(Native IO is Enabled)
Appllication Authentication level Threads stuck
Session timeout = 3600 seconds
Environment:
Weblogic server 8.1.4.0
OS: Solaris 10
What are the parameters do i need to check in weblogic server ?
If there is a problem with LDAP server application should not work after restart of the managed server.
Also checked that the session bean deployed to check the user id in the database returned result quickly during the issue.
Note: The session bean is deployed on a different managed server(conection pool on different server)
LDAP,DB level query returns are fine when there is issue.Can you first located the problem?
Click on the domain_name, monitoring, health. This shows an overview of all the server and their health.
When you open a certain tree, the heath per subsystem is shows.
In your case (stuck threads) you can click on the threadpool. Now a screen is shows that shows the threads
in the stuck column it is shown which thread is stuck.
You can create a thread dump and than analyze it to see what is being called by the thread -
Bad performance when deleting report column in webi(with "Design – Structure only")
Hi all,
One of our customer has recently upgraded from BO XI to BO4.1. In the new BO 4.1, they encountered a bad performance issue when they were deleting a column in Webi(using "Design – Structure only" mode).
With “Design – Structure only" mode, it took webi about 10 seconds to complete after the customer right-clicked a report column and clicked the "delete". The customer said that they only need to wait for less than 1 second when they did the same in BO XI old version.
The new BO version used is 4.1SP02, installed in Windows Server 2008 R2. (Server with 32 core CPU, 32G memory)
This bad performance happened in both Webi web and Rich Client. (in Webi Rich Client, the performance is a little bit better. The 'delete column' action takes about 8 seconds to complete).
Do anyone know how to tune this performance in webi? Thank you.
Besides, it seems that each time we are making change in the webi report structure in IE or Rich Client, webi need to interact with Server site to upload the changes. Is there any option to change this behavior? Say, do not upload change to Server for when 'deleting report column', only trigger the upload after a set of actions(e.g. trigger when click the "Save" button).

What customer concerns now is that when they did the same 'column editing' action in BO XI R2 for the same report, they did not need to wait. And they need to wait for at least 7-8 second in the BO 4.1SP02 environment for this action to complete.(data already purged, in structure-only mode)
One more information about the webi report being editing is: there are many sheets in the report(about 6~10 sheets in one report). Customer don't want to separate these sheet into different reports as it will increase the effort of their end users to locate similar report sheets.
