EP Migration - Transport Package Question

Hi,
Is there any report from which we can pull out details like what are all the objects that were migrated from the portal on a certain date or within a particular date range? If one wants to know what all objects were migrated to the production system within certain date range or under a particular Transport Package how do we know?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Santhanalakshmi.

Hi,
On the Import screen ones you upload the epa file, the 'Content to be OverWritten' will be enabled. The 'All' option should override the contents.
Here i generally rename the folder the current folder to a 'Temp' Name and import the package. ones the import is through we delete the folder with the 'Temp' Name.
  Hope that helps.

The bug is Function of Download itself,if anyone have meet this case and help me. I need your help!

    Hi Ree,
As I mentioned in my previous reply it is working perfectly for me. The import is creating the required files in the PCD.
Let me explain how it is done.
    Create a TP
Create a folder and add the required files(Workset, pages, iviews etc) to the the folder.
add the folder with all the contents(select 'Add all objects to transport package' from the content menu) to the TP.
Export the TP. give a name of your choice(removing the numbers)
Download it to the local machine using the dowmload link.
the file will be saved as a <i>TPName</i>.epa in your local drive.
in import, select 'client' for Source for Package Files.
brose and select the <i>TPName</i>.epa file.
upload the file, and you can see the contents.
then import it to the new environment. Now the complete folder stucture will be created in the PCD exactly as you created it for the TP.
I hope you are doing like this. It should work
Are yo able to open the downloaded file with WinZip?
    cheers

  • Creating transport package for CRM Business Package

    Hi there,
I have recently installed the CRM Business Packages 60.2 onto our EP6.0 SP2 server.  I have also performed quite a lot of configuration on the portal e.g. creating new roles, worksets, iviews etc.
We have now installed a new EP6 server which is running on EP6 SP12.  I now need to install the CRM Business Packages 60.2 along with my work again onto the new EP server.
Anyway I have some questions below:
    1) I was wondering whether I could create various 'Transport Packages' using the Transport > Export functionality under the System Administration tab.  So if I create Transport packages which contains the CRM business packages, export these to the server, then on the new EP6 server import these.  Is this possible or is it advisable to install the CRM business package again.
    2) In addition to this say for example I could create transport packages for the CRM business package, can I also create transport packages for the new roles, iView etc I created and import these into the new EP server?
    3) If say I decided to install the CRM Business Package onto the new EP server, but then I imported my work from the old EP server (i.e. new roles/worksets etc) into the new EP server, would this work.  Reason I ask is because some worksets I used in my new role on the old EP server are delta links to the migrated content.  If I only import my work how does it know where the delta links are pointing to?
    I hope this makes sense.
    Cheers
    JoJo

    Hi JoJo,
Can you please give me the link of latest version of CRM Business package for EP 6.
    Thanks,
    Padmanaban

  • Best Practice: Migrating transports to Prod (system down etc.)

    Hi all
This is more of a process and governance question as opposed to a ChaRM question.
We use ChaRM to migrate transports to Production systems. For example, we have a Minor BAU Release (every 2 weeks), a Minor Initiative Release (every 4 weeks) and a Major Release (every 3 months).
We realise that some of the major releases may require SAP to be taken offline. But what is SAP Best practice for ANY release into Production? i.e. for our Minor BAU Release we never shut down any Production systems, never stop batch jobs, never lock users etc.
What does SAP recommend when migrating transports to Prod?
    Thanks
    Shaun

Have you checked out the "Two Value Releases Per Year" whitepaper for SAP recommendations?  Section 6 is applicable.
Lifetime Support by SAP &amp;raquo; Two Value Releases per Year
The "real-world" answer is going to depend on how risk-adverse versus downtime adverse your company is.  I think most companies would choose to keep the systems running except when SAP forces an outage or there is a real risk of data corruption (some data conversions and data loads, for example).
Specific to your minor BAU releases, it may be wise to make a process whereby anything that requires a production shutdown, stopped batch jobs, locked users, etc. needs to be in a different release type. But if you don't have the kind of control, your process will need to allow for these things to happen with those releases.
Also, with regards to stopping batch jobs in the real world, you always need to balance the desire to take full advantage of the available systems versus the pain of managing the variations.  If your batch schedule is full, how are you going to make sure the critical jobs complete on time when you do need to take the system down?  If it isn't full, why do you need that time?  Can you make sure only non-critical batch jobs run during those times?  Do you have a good method of implementing an alternate batch schedule when need be?

  • Transport package creation in EP7

    Hi,
We have recently migrated from EP6 to EP7. While creating transport package in EP7, I found that the "include dependent" option is no more there in EP7. Can someone tell me how do we include dependent objects in EP7.
       Thank you.
    Regards
    Mukesh

    Mukesh,
In the Properties pull down list, select "Export Settings" and click "Resolve References" Radio button to Yes.
References Filter is used to "com.xxx.*"
    Hope it helps.

  • Transport Package

I am having problem with moving contents from one Portal box to another. Our PCD directory structure is something like this.
    Folder
    |___Iview Folder
    |              |__iView1
    |              |__iView2
    |
    |_______Role
Role has Iview1 & iView2 attached as delta link.
Now due to some business requirement, I have to delete iView1. I have deleted iView1 and its reference in Role. My question is How do I reflect the changes in other box? When I create a TP by selecting the <i>folder</i> and using the option Add <i>all the objects to transport package</i>, Folder, iView2 and Role is added in the TP. When we import this package it just overwrite Folder, iView2 and Role. Since TP in other box is just overwriting the object, it won’t overwrite the Iview1 that is delete iView1.
Can we include deletion information in the TP?

    Hi,
On the Import screen ones you upload the epa file, the 'Content to be OverWritten' will be enabled. The 'All' option should override the contents.
Here i generally rename the folder the current folder to a 'Temp' Name and import the package. ones the import is through we delete the folder with the 'Temp' Name.

  • Business package  vs Transport Package

    HI All,
What is the difference between Business package and Transport package?
Is there any relation between these two?
What is ESS and MSS? where do we use this?
Please make me clear on above questions.
    Regards,
    sekhar.

Business Packages are presupplied content for a portal, available from SAP or other vendors. They are uploaded ionto your portal. The upload mechanism depends on the version of the portal and the version of the business package.
Transport packages are what you use to move content between your portals.
ESS and MSS are examples of business packages available from the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/contentportfolio">here</a>
You use business packages if their content makes sense!

  • Exporting a transport package

    Hi,
when we export a transport package, an epa file is created and stored in the folder as per settings in the PCD configuration start up file. But then, where can we find details about all the objects i.e. iviews, pages, worksets, roles etc that are a part of the package ?
In ABAP, all the details pertainig to a request can be found in tables like e070, e071 etc. Are there any tables where these details get stored which can be accessed using SQL for JAVA?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Pravesh and Detlev.
I created a transport package, included an iview into it and exported the same, I downloaded the .EPA file and went through the structure of it. The .EPA file has a EPT file for the transport package, EPT file for the iview that i included in the transport package, an xml file called package.xml (which has contents as below at the end of this message)  and a manifest.mf file.
The package.xml file has the details of the objets that were a part of the package. My question is, is this the only place we can find these details or are there any java tables where they get stored (similar to abap e070 and e071 tables) ??

  • Migrating Transports via CHaRM to the same system more than once

    Good Day;
Does anyone know if CHaRM has the capabilities to migrate transports (within a maintenance cycle) to the same system multiple times?
    Let me explain.
    When we move a maintenance cycle (release) through our landscape we move from;
Development system - Quality system - Volume system. Then to production
UAT is being done in both the quality system and the volume system.
Once all testing is complete, we refresh the volume system with a fresh copy of the production system and re-import all the transports. This is to allow our BASIS team to do regression (batch) and load testing.
Is there a way to use CHaRM to migrate the transports or is this something that needs to be done manually (as it is today).
    Thanks All,
    Regards

  • Unable to upload Transport Package in portal

    Hi
Previously i have transported .epa file(Trnasport Package) from dev to acc, it worked fine there.now when iam trying to upload the same in qas portal its getting error like "could not upload file" .can any one assist me with the solution

    Sekhar,
Please check the transport_logger trace (logs/transport.log) to troubleshoot transport problems.
Set the loglevels to analyze the transport problems debug in the pcdstartup.properties file for the categories pcd.tracelevel.basictransport and pcd.tracelevel.GI.Transport
Please check Note 679516: Central Note for the Transport Package Editor
Please check Note 743857: Upload issues in cluster scenarios
Please examine this file for pure UI problems like the editor does not load or an object cannot be added to a transport package. pcd_admin_tools_logger (logs/pcdadmintools.log)

  • Error while importing Transport Package ?

    Hi,
I have created a Transport Package which includes the following things :
    1. Two folders
    2. Two iViews
    3. one .par file
I am trying to Import the above package by choosing the option 'Source for package file - client' and then browsing where my .epa file is placed.
When i click the Upload Button I am getting the following error -
'Error extracting the package file. Check the log file for details'
What can be reason for this error?
    Regards,
    Vikas Khandpur

    Hi Vikas
It is not generally advised to Package a .PAR file into a .EPA file. Because a .PAR file may depend on parts that are not included in the .EPA file which might cause incosistent transports.
You can directly upload a .PAR file into the Portal. Just go to System Administration -> Support -> Portal Runtime -> Administration Console and upolad the .PAR file.
Try removing the .PAR file from the Transport Package and download the exported .EPA file. Import this new file and see if it works this time.
    Hope that helped
    Best Regards

  • Transport layer and transport package

I have a fundamental query on transport package and layer.
Objects are classified in packages depending on the project and put in $TMP or test package else they are local ? Only objects belonging to a transport package can be transported , others are not ? How transport package is defined ? All objects must be a part of transport package else can not be transported ?
ABout transport layer, I understand this is used to define which path objects will take during transport particularly when there are multiple transport routes. But what are the advantages of it ? How we can define it (trx code/menu path) ?
Is it mandatory to use transport package and layers ?

    Hi Mike,
Just to clarify a few basic concepts:
A transport package (formerly called a "development class", a term you may still encounter) groups related development objects. Whenever you create a new development object (table, program, ...) you have to assign it to a package; the object is then placed into a transport request. Alternatively you can indicate it is a local object (its package is then "$TMP") but such an object is non-transportable.
A transport layer identifies the route that transportable devmt objects must follow. Typically in your system you will have two layers: a layer usually called Zxxx (with xxx = SID of your development system) is used for your own developments. Another layer called "SAP" is used for transporting SAP objects, for example changes to standard SAP code implemented via transaction SNOTE and recorded in repairs. Without the "SAP" layer in place, repairs would be non-transportable.
Each transport package belongs to a layer. You assign the layer when you create a new package in transaction SE80. You can change the layer later on, but this is rarely needed and can cause quite a few side-effects. SAP objects always have layer "SAP". The layers themselves are managed in STMS, under "Transport Routes".
    Hope this clarifies things,
    Rgds, Mark
