EP5.0 to EP7.0 KM applications

Hi,
My client has a few applications accessing KM APIs that were functioning properly in EP5.0 but won't function in EP7.0. What needs to be done here exactly to make these applications work in EP 7.0. Does it require use of new KM APIs? If so, how to go about this? Please help.

Takeover from EP5.0 to EP7.0 SP8 (Iviews & Theme)

Hello all,
I am quite new to Enterprise Portal.
I just set up the EP 7.0 with SP8, Roles, Worksets, Pages, Iviews. Everything is running fine. I was even able to take over the KM of our old EP5.0 via offline ICE export & import.
The old portal comes also with some custom iviews and an custom portal theme. No Idea who design and programmed it.
Do you have some hints and/or how to's to take over the theme and especially the custom iviews and their data - or are they not compatible with EP 7.0?

you cannot directly upgrade from EP5 to EP7 .
My suggestion is better go for fresh EP 7 installation and manually migrate the cotent from EP 5 to EP 7. This scenario is better if the content is not so complex.
Otherwise you need to upgrade to EP 6 server and then upgrade to EP7 server.
You can develop custom applications with more functionalities than ep 5.

SSO to web application

Hello all,
Okay, I'm trying to accomplish SSO between EP5.0 and an existing web application and am having little luck. Basically, the web app will be called in the portal and I need to somehow pass the web app the userid/pswd that is stored in a user mapping entry in the portal (userid is not the same as the portal userid). In retrieving the usermapping info, the pswd is encoded (obviously for security reasons). So, anyone have an idea as how to a) get the usermapping info and b) pass it to the web app. (I've tried using a session cookie, but it does not appear be globally visible).

I'm not familiar with EP5.0, but I think maybe using URL rewriting can accomplish SSO.
But I am worry about if this method will encode the password.

Is sapjco.jar still valid in EP7?

I'm migrating some EP5 iViews to EP7 and want to know if I should still include sapjco.jar in \dist\PORTAL-INF\private\lib or whether this have been superceeded by another .jar in EP7?
Strangely enough we are running EP5 iViews on EP6, and have a version of sapjco.jar from Service Marketplace. Should I continue to use this or is there a newer version of this jar delivered with EP7? I searched by EP7 installation jars but couldnt find sapjco.jar as part of the installation.
Any advice appreciated.

Yeh, I got it working. I was just doing something dumb. The UI to insert it
will be a nice addition. Overall, I love the app. It has more than doubled
productivity for heavy web UI stuff

What is the equavelent of AL08 at EP7?

Hi!
In R/3 (ABAP), we can see the user distribution accross the application servers via t_code AL08.
We have an EP7 with multiple application servers (Java only). Where to see the on-line
user distribution accross the application servers?
We know we can access this info from Visual Admin. But how to do it via EP7 itself ? Any other
place to go , e.g. an iView?

Portal Activity Report is a good place to find user information
go to User administration > Activity Report
Although remember that this portal activity report can hinder the performance of your portal. deactiviating this can cause an improvement in the performance...

MSS-Leave Request Approval Error

Hello All,
We have implemented UWL within our organisation and we are using it for approving Leave request.The leave requests are appearing in the task list but when a user clicks on it he gets a error message as below.We are on EP7 sp12.
Application error occurred during request processing.
Details: com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.sal.core.DispatcherException: The requested deployable object 'com.sap/ess~lea' and application 'LeaveRequestApprover' are not deployed on the server. Please check the used URL for typos.
Exception id: [0017087D873900490000001F0000139000044508CF7E13ED]
We have checked 'com.sap/ess~lea' and they are working fine.
Has anybody encountered this message.

Are you able to run com.sap/ess~lea' and application 'LeaveRequestApprover'
from Content Adminustrtor -> WebDynpro -> Application
for the same user..
If this is Dev/Test system then assign Content admin roles and see if they are working for this user....
If answer is yes, then look for WAS properties of the system which you have used to register in UWl. If that is directing to WD applicatino server. If no, then please maintain the entries.

How to handele this Exception

Currently I am working with SAP EP7.0 Web application Server, and now I am implementing model by using Web Services.
I imported the Web Services model successfully but when i execute this i got Exception like:
Service call exception; nested exception is: com.sap.engine.services.webservices.jaxrpc.exceptions.InvalidResponseCodeException: Invalid Response Code: (401) Unauthorized. The requested URL was:"http://suresh:50100/EmpMaintenanceWS/Config1?style=document".
Note: EmpMaintenance is my Web Service.
I have the table in Database(Employee Maintenance Table), I got this exception when i want to save these details in Database. I got the values in UIElements of table but I didn't got this in Databsae.
Could anybody help me to resolve this bug please!.

As Manoj rightly said, please check the Web Service first through navigator.
The error that you have mentioned, comes when the Web Service is a Secure Web Service, ie authorization is required to access the functionality of the Web Service. This can be verified, by access the Web Service thru Navigator.
If, the Web Service is Secure, then you can use the following piece of code, to set the Username and Password.

Could not retrieve iView - Error: - -2147024891

Hi,
We r using EP5.0 and we have some applications runnning on EP5.0 which will call some transactions from a SAP HR system. Everything was working fine till yesterday. Suddenly we are getting the error "Could not retrieve iView - Error: - -2147024891" when we tried to use those iViews today. One of the iView's functionality is like calling the Transaction "PZ01" in SAP(who's who).
Can anybody tell me why this is happening? Thanks in Advance.

No (usefull) answer from SAP yet. For me it looks like the problem is to be found in the communication between IIS and J2EE (SAPJ2EE) because other web-applications on the IIS and the J2EE are working.
Did anybody install MS Security updates before reboot/the problem occured? We did but the uninstall of this update didn't help. The error code is generated by the IIS (I assume) - you can find this error in the MS KBase (http://support.microsoft.com) too. But it didn't help me a lot

Getting errors on EP7.0CE NWDS while deploying the Application

Jus now i installed EP7.0 CE SP3 n NWDS7.0CE , for deploying the app from NWDS i did the same thing like
windows--> preferences -->SAP AS JAVA n their i given the host name n Instance number...
but when am trying to deploy applicatio itz giving the following error
com.sap.ide.eclipse.deployer.api.APIException: ConnectionException,cause=[ERROR CODE DPL.DCAPI.1144] NamingException.Cannot get initial context.
Reason: Exception while trying to get InitialContext.

normally it should not be required to deploy JSF 1.2 with the application as WLS has JSF 1.2 installed. So only make sure you deploy 11.1.1.7 to the WLS server it is supported with

Import from an EP5-BSP-Application into EP6 SP12

after the import from an ep5-bsp-application into the ep6 sp12 installation, no text will be displayed by the checkboxes.

Hi Tafkap,
Once you have created the par file you have to first deploy it to your Server to store it to PCD.
http://<server-name>:50000/irj/servlet/prt/portal
<b>Note:</b> There will be input box where you have to give the path of your par file. It will be having the heading as:
<b>Please specify a Portal Archive file (PAR) and press "upload" to store it into the PCD.</b>
1) Login to the Portal.
2) Go to Content Administration.
3) Go to Portal Content. Right click it and you will find option (New from PAR).
4) Create New from PAR -> iView.
5) Now a list of PAR files deployed on PCD will appear and there you will find the PAR file which you have also deployed.
6) click on it and press Next.
7) Enter the Name and ID whatever you want.
8) Finish.
9) Now you can see the iView with the name you have mentioned. Right click it and preview it.
10) Or just click the iView and then click on the preview option.
Now you view the page in your default browser.

EP7 Sizing :db Instance and application servers SAPS splitting

We are about to install a SAP EP7 EHPA in High Availability Mode.
Database : Oracle 10.2 on HP-UX.
The sizing has been performed, we require 10000 SAPS.
We will perform a distributed installation on several servers :
DBInstance on a dedicated physical host, and Applications servers on other machines.
Therefore we still have to decide how the required 10000 SAPS should be splitted between DB host
and the others hosts. For example : 30 % DB and 70 % Others
I'm aware that it is specific to the EP usage but I just want to have an overall idea
I tried to find that kind of information on SAP benchmark, or HP websites but didn't find anything.
Any help on this question will be apreciated.

Hi Raoul,
you are absolutely right - it depends on how you use EP. If you expect a lot of data in your database you will need to use a higher percentage. Maybe you should also think about the data source configuration for user management you'd like to use. This can contain a lot of data if you use database only with a lot of roles, groups and users. Another point would be how you like to archive log files. The portal may produce a lot of log files - depending on your settings and on the activity at the portal. If you like to archive them for a very long time you will need a lot of space. Another thing is portal activity report for example. It generates a lot of data in the database for weekly, monthly and daily aggregation when there is a lot of activity in the portal. Maybe this helps you to decide...

Hi Jasmine,
It's not possible deploy a Java EE aplication developed in SAP CE 7.1 into EP 7.0 because the XML descriptors have differents formats. Try to use the export options over your applications and maybe you will found some options to help you.

Are EP5 Java iViews Supported on EP7?

Hi,
Can anyone tell me whether our Java iViews, some of which are still in EP5 format Eclipse projects, are still supported and will run without modification on EP7?
If not, do we need to import them in NWDS for EP6, and then from NWDS for EP6 to NWDS for EP7?
Or can we import EP5 PARs directly into EP7 NWDS?

Hello Steve,
Ofcourse it is always recommanded to import EP5 project to corresponding NWDS (EP6/7) and compile the sources against the target EP-Version(EP6/7) .
This ensures that all classes you are using are still available on the target system.
So if your target system is EP7 then you need not check with NWDS EP6, you can directly import into NWDS EP7 and then add the EP7 sources to compile.
I am sure you will see some classes/methods depricated or missing!!

ESS/MSS applications from ECC 6.0 on a SL as ECC 5.0 + EP7.0

Hi all,
We have a "strange" situation on the client and I need you help or guidance.
We are implementing Portal and ESS/MSS on a system landscape as ECC 5.0 for the back-end system and EP 7.0 as front-end.
My problem is if the ESS/MSS iViews which have the data source as ECC 6.0 or higher are available and if yes how their behavior will be on such environment? We should expect errors or bugs or lousing functionalities or restrictions on it?
Perhaps the first point will be if we can implement them? The client wants specific applications like time accounts or appraisals. I should mention to you the client has decided to make an upgrade of the back-end system to ECC 6.0 but is not decided yet when. In the meantime we already start the project for ESS/MSS base on the current system landscape.
What do you think?

I got my answer. You may implement XSS applications as for ECC 5 even on EP 7 but you'll face limitations in functionalities and face lots of tech issues and abnormal behavior from xss applications. Not the ideal system landscape.
