Episode Artwork

My artwork is showing in the store but not in itunes subscription. I have read and followed the suggestion mentioned in another post that led to http://homepage.mac.com/rfwilmut/notes/faq.html#coverart
When it says to upload the file created in itunes, is this simply uploaded to MY server or resubmitted to itunes? I have uploaded to my server on 2-23-10 but it is still not showing up. My feed url is http://www.grace4living.com/podcastblaster.xml
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=355388285
Thanks

One more try. Can you look at my actual feed and see if my image markers are in the right place? The image markers for the items are my focus.
Thanks

  • Missing Episode Artwork

I have created a series of podcasts for my website using Garageband that went off without a hitch. I dropped in artwork and also episode artwork in the lower lefthand corner in GB. I exported to iWeb with no problems but hit a snag when uploading to the yahoo host.
When I uploaded (using Captain FTP) I got an error message about improper characters being used. I checked the published site folder and it appears that iWeb used commas in creating the files names of the episode artwork for the webpage. Everything else is there and works fine. It's just that instead of seeing episode artwork, question marks remain.
I am really anxious to get this resolved in a hurry. I am a high school teacher and I am uploading student generated podcasts. I'd love for them to see their work online and functioning well before summer vacation. Any advice or tips sent would be great appreciated.

I guess I should clarify what I did to solve this. I used my software to produce the podcast originally, and that is what caused the file naming issue.
I was not able to correct the problem with the software, so I had to rename my files once they were produced and saved to my hard drive. I then deleted the files from the Yahoo! server (the software had automatically uploaded them) and re-uploaded the new files manually through a very simple FTP program.
You MAY also need to manually edit your XML file and change all references to the old filenames to the new names that you gave them.
I know this is a pain in the rear, but as a new podcaster, I have not yet found a simpler workaround or piece of software that does not name the files improperly.
    ~ Tim

  • Episode Artwork won't save!

Hello, I make podcasts on a weekly basis, and for some reason, the previous week's episode artwork just will not save. I've had another person try it and it didn't work for them either. Is there something wrong with the file? It has worked as normal on this week's. I just haven't been able to fix the one from before.
I've uploaded it online in a zip if anyone wants to take a look.
    http://www.mediafire.com/?atxyqtjygxk
And here's the image I'm trying to be the main episode artwork:
    http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=shymnxxgsw3&thumb=4
    Any help will be appreciated.

If I remove the videos from iTunes and re-add them, even the episode name and number are lost as well.
Why are only 4 of the 12 episodes reacting this way? I even tried fixing the permissions.

  • Individual episode artwork to show up for my podcast on itunes?

I have individual artwork for each of my episodes for my podcast, filmception. I can't seem to get itunes to show this artwork for each episode. I read a bit on id3 tags and such, and it's all rather confusing. I've even added the artwork to the files and reuploaded each episode, but no luck. Would adding the artwork in garage band, re-exporting the files, then uploading the files to my libsyn account do the trick. Anybody who can help me with this please tell me the best way to get itunes to recognize my individual episode artwork.
    Ryan

As you haven't posted the URL of your feed it's not possible to check on what exactly you've done.
For artwork to show when subscribing, for individual episodes, it has to be actually embedded in the media files, and it doesn't show until you start playing the episode. It then shows in the small area at the top where the progress bar is, and if you command-click that you get a larger version. (These images do not show in the iTunes Store.)
This page explains the whole process in detail, so see whether it helps you, and if you want to follow up please post the feed URL.

  • TV Show and Episode Artwork

I had 3 episodes of a TV show. I opened each in Quicktime Pro, and created a unique poster frame for each.
Now, I want a generic image for the show itself in the grid view in iTunes (and the top-level menu view on Apple TV). Right-click the show in the grid view and select "Get Info". On the "Info" tab, there's a small box titled "Artwork" on the lower right side. Apple support told me to paste my show image here. WRONG! Doing so replaced my individually-created poster frames done in QT Pro with the 'generic' show image.
What controls the image you see for a TV show in iTunes grid view? Seems to be completely random! Can't I have an image for the show in grid view (i.e., "The Twilight Zone") and then an image for an episode (i.e., the broken eyeglasses for "Time Enough At Last")?

    This has got me stumped.
Apple TV ignores the artwork I choose for the TV shows I have added myself (e.g. not from the iTunes store)
    I've tried:
    1) Pasting an image into the artwork field from the Get Info window
    2) Right-clicking a still image and choosing 'Set Poster Frame'
Despite this, Apple TV seems to choose a random frame near the beginning of the TV show as the poster art.
In iTunes however, the artwork I've chosen is shown.
The problem happens if I stream the TV shows from iTunes, and also if I sync the TV shows to Apple TV. I've tried restarting both the Apple TV and iTunes, deleting the shows from the iTunes library and adding them again, un-checking the shows and re-checking them. Nothing seems to work.

  • Podcast Episode and Chapter Artwork Lost in Export

I have been trying and trying to export my podcast to disk, but when I do, only the audio content comes through. The episode artwork and the chapter artwork do not appear. When I drag-and-drop the episode into iWeb, "Drag Image Here" appears where the artwork used to be. This is the first time this has happened I have not changed a thing about how I produce my podcasts.
While troubleshooting, I also tried to export to iWeb. Then the audio content and episode artwork appeared, but none of the chapter artworks did.
Please help! My listeners expect my podcasts every Sunday morning. Thank you!
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm also having a problem with this, although for me it's compounded slightly by the fact that I'm not even sure where I would view the podcast track.
The podcast track does not show up when I play the file from my disk, nor when I subscribe to the podcast via iTunes from my server. It also doesn't show when viewing the .m4a file in either Quicktime Player or in a web browser (via the QT plugin), nor in the Finder preview when I Get Info... (but I can hear the audio portion in all cases).
Is there any way to check if the podcast track is actually contained in the exported file? It's a 30 second .m4a file and weighs in at 616kb.
My export settings in Garageband are for Video Podcast, I have publish podcast checked, my podcast track is visible and there is no video track. My podcast track is 7 pictures, and I've set named and assigned urls to all of them, and selected Episode artwork and named and written a description for the episode.
I've tried a couple things like hiding and re-hiding the podcast track and such, but to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas on this? It's starting to make me annoyed =)

  • How is the Episode item artwork generated?

    Hello!
Does anybody know how the episode artwork of a video podcast is generated? (in the list of podcast episodes for example on the iphone)
I have 2 to 3 minutes video podcasts, whose first 8 seconds are the logo, then moving elements. But out of the last 6 episodes, in 3 the artwork was the logo, and in 3 it was some still from the following part of the podcast.
    What's the principle behind this?
    Thanks in advance.

I believe setting the "poster frame" will let you control the episode specific artwork, and if not then stop by these locations for more info:

  • Why is itunes changing series photo/artwork for episode photo/artwork?

Whenever I update a new podcast in itunes, the series artwork is substituted for an episodes art work? Does anyone know how to stop this so that the series art work/photo will remain the same even while adding episodes? I am using iweb to publish.
    www.mysticalmoments.org

Make sure that the episode artwork is added to the actual file's metadata. Instructions for adding art to the file in iTunes are listed in the tech spec here:

  • How can I clean up my artwork?

I have a new podcast.  The individual episode artwork shows up, but there is no artwork for the entire podcast.  Also, when in iTunes, one of the episode's artwork appears as the entire podcast's artwork.  How can I change these????

What I said above applies to the iTunes application when subscribing. Don't confuse that with the Store. The Store page for your podcast draws the image from the 'itunes:image' tag in the top section of the feed (before the first 'item' tag) and isn't necessarily the same as the image(s) embedded in the media files. If you don't see an image in the Store it's because you don't have one correctly referenced in the feed.
How you get the image into the feed depends on how you're creating it. if you're hand-writing the feed - not many people do - the method is shown here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/itunes/tag/image.html
if you are using a program or online service to create your feed you will need to investigate their documentation on how to provide an image. If your feed is the one here:
    http://web.me.com/mertler/Dr._Mertlers_Podcasts/Dr._Mertlers_Podcasts/rss.xml
then you are using iWeb and it has not provided the feed - I believe some templates don't include the image which you add to the web page, but if you want to ask about this could I refer you to the iWeb Forum.
(Please post your feed  and Store Page URLs when you have a query, scrabbling about in the Search doesn't always work reliably.)

  • Artwork Issue (newbie question)

    Hi guys,
I have just submitted my first ever podcast but have a couple of questions re: the arwork.
    the feed is at http://www.new-images.com/podcasts/feed.xml
the link to the podcast in the store is at
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=299792878
Now, if I look at the store, I can see the jpg I created is shown and I like that. But if I subscribe, I get a thumbnail of an episode shown as the main podcast artwork. Any ideas what I have done wrong?
Also, how to I give each episode artwork?

When you look at the iTunes Store page for your podcast you see the podcast image you have referenced in your feed file. However, when you subscribe to a podcast and select an episode you don't see an image.
This is because the display is for 'cover art' belonging to the individual episode rather than the entire podcast. The artwork for this is embedded in the audio file rather than referenced in the feed file.
To embed an image in an audio file: having created an image (ideally 600x600):
Open iTunes and add the audio file to the library. Select it and hit command-i. Select the 'Artwork' tag. Drag your image to the space. Close, and when you play the track you should see the artwork. Drag the file out to the desktop and upload this version to the server. You can delete the copy in iTunes if necessary but if you are storing the file elsewhere you should replace it with this new version (which looks just the same, and note that the cover art does not appear in the QuickTime Player).
If yours is an 'enhanced' podcast - e.g. m4a with chapters and an image for each chapter - then the image for the first chapter will show when you select the episode.

  • Assigning Artwork to the Podcast itself

Hi All - I am migrating to iWeb from Podcast Maker.
I export the podcast through Garageband where I assign episode artwork.
My question is: is there a difference between episode artwork and the artwork of the podcast series generally? Can I have artwork for the podcast, showing up say on an ipod when scrolling through podcasts as well as artwork for each specific episode, when scrolling through the podcast episodes?
    Thanks

Two separate issue. The image which appears on the Store page ( the 'podcast image') is referenced in the feed. Podcast Maker will give you a place to insert an image and will upload it and reference it in the feed for you.
The images which appear when you subscribe and click on each episode (caloed 'cover art') are not referenced in the feed but are embedded in the actual media file. Podcast Maker may do this - working from memory I'm not sure - but this page shows you how to do it for yourself:
    http://homepage.mac.com/rfwilmut/notes/faq.html#coverart

  • Assigning and exporting podcast artwork

The podcast artwork that is exporting with my episodes seems to be stuck on the same one all the time.  I'm not sure how to place the correct episode artwork for each new episode of my podcasts in the GarageBank window.  For instance I have one GarageBand podcast project, but then I might have 8 episodes (each with different tracks) underneath.  I have place new podcast artwork in the lower, editing window, but it's indicating chapters.
Is there any documentation on how to do this correctly?
    Thank you,

I think it's not possible to make any cogent comment unless you would like to publish the URLs of both your feed and the Store page; this can be found by control-clicking on the podcast image - or where it should be - and choosing 'Copy link'.  Please include the http:// in both cases to make the links clickable.

  • Apple TV2 4.4.3 bug with TV Show Artwork

After the latest updat to 4.4.3 my Apple TV2 no longer show episode artwork for shows.  I have a large collection of TV Shows I converted from my DVDs and have individual screen shots for each episode.  In the main list it chooses one episode and the artwork from it repsresents the show for that season.  However up to this latest version, when you went into the season and scrolled Episode by Episode the artwork would change with the description.  Now that no longer works.  Is anyone else seeing this issue?
    Thanks.

Sadly I just discovered this same issue with individual tv show artwork no longer displaying on my Apple TV2 after updating to 4.4.3 just a day and a half ago. I was so happy when (around 4.x) they finally had gotten Apple TV2 to display individual artwork for each of the tv shows I had applied it to... now its no longer working again. Sigh. And optical audio still keeps cutting out / dropping completely with both version 4.4.2 and 4.4.3. Hopefully BOTH of these issues can be fixed quickly with a new software update release.

  • Question about changing ID3 images

Hey everyone. I recently changed my podcast artwork. I use Powerpress, so changing the MAIN artwork was quite easy. So for this question, I am referencing only the individual art that is displayed with each individual episode.
I know that for iTunes to recognize a change in episode artwork, that it cannot have the same name as the previous. The new artwork embedded does have a new name but is it the artwork that needs a different name, or the entire mp3 that needs a new name? Once artwork becomes embedded as ID3 I'm not sure if it loses its name altogether. So I need to know specifically what needs a new name for iTunes to update my episode art? Pic name or mp3 name?
    Thanks for your time!

    Thanks for the response Roger.
So just to be clear, I have changed the images embedded in my MP3s. I then re-uploaded them to Libsyn using the replace function. So I now have MP3s with the exact same name as before, but with a new image embedded. Are you saying iTunes will see the image change in each episode even though the name of my MP3 is exactly the same?
So far, iTunes has immediately updated my main podcast image but all my individual episodes still have the old image.
You can probably see what I'm talking about by searching iTunes for Netflix Junkies. You'll see that 'episodes' has different artwork than 'podcasts' in the search results. Do I just need to wait it out? Or rename my mp3s?
Keep in mind, there is another podcast with the same name no artwork. This is not my podcast but someone else's.
    Thanks again!

  • No enhanced podcast with iPad

I've searched around and found a couple of posts in the iPad discussion that seem to confirm my worst fears: you cannot view an enhanced podcast on an iPad!!!! It's a brick! This must be because the "ipod" app I guess cannot carry out the high-tech sequencing of still graphics with the audio. Or did I miss something and Steve Jobs just announced that the iPad will have no artwork created after 1500, lest anything later be construed as too flashy? Apple, please give us back enhanced podcasts-- it's a fair trade for taking the iPad leap of faith.

I do enhanced podcasts for my online students with Keynote and Garage band. I created an .m4p and it plays FINE on my iPod touch, so I can't imagine why it won't work on an iPad.
I get the Episode artwork but none of the chapters. The tracks all show up in the list view, but no images. Also, if I display the Episode artwork, I can't get the controls to appear. Bug, bug, bug.
