Along those lines... Are there any other clients that involve windows(non-server)? like FR studio? I don't have Financial reporting configured but as part of the upgrade will attempt to configure it.
Also regarding maintenance release: Is it using the regular EPM installer with a choice to perform a maintenance upgrade? or does support provide something special?

there is a doubt for me on ORACLE software installation. i.e. who will install ORACLE software on linux production environment. either system admin or else ORACLE DBA.
If DBA means, whether system admin will share the oracle root password.,
If SYS admin means how DBA parameters during installation.

Since every version of Oracle available now (except 11.2) needs patches, a new installation should not create the database right away. Therefore, a software-only install is the most reasonable thing to do. And if no DB configuration parameters are required at s/w-only time, then it makes somewhat sense for the SysAdmin to do the install.
Therefore, it makes sense to me that the two groups (DBA and SA) might want to work ... together. (ROFLMAO)

so far the installation and configuration worked well.
However, in shared services under the essbase node there are no applications available .
The same is when I try to priovision a user (for apps).
Can someone give me a hint how to take a closer look to solfe the problem.
Evething else seems to work fine. Essbase is up an running and it's accessible via the EAS console.

I have tried to install and config a EPM 11.1.2.1 like this:
All Servers Win208R2.
1. Http and J2EE Server
2. Essbase Server
3. Others Server
4. RDBMS-Server (Repository)
However the the OPMN process on the essbase server does not start and thus I cannot go the next steps in my install/conifg process.

- We can also manage load balancing via the WebLogic Admin console, and as you have noted by the OHS as well - which I am not familiar with...
This is a newbie question - wouldn't having 3 different agents managing load-balancing complicate things..? As the WebLogic server sits on top of the OHS, I guess they work together to provide load-balancing and configuring the WebLogic for clustering/load-balancing should affect the OHS configuration as well. Is this how it works at the high-level or is it more complicated?
The EPM System Configurator creates the required cluster and adds servers to the cluster when we deploy the Web applications in the final step of the configuration. So we need not manually configure WebLogic for clustering. But when and where does one configure load-balancing..?

CS6 to older, or newer to CS6?

Weird error: "Cannot write file summary in a read-only environment"

Disclaimer: We are using an old version of bdb - 3.2.76 but are not able to easily upgrade.
We see this occasionally in production. From looking at the code it looks like critical eviction is happening since more memory is used then the limit we set then eviction is happening but then failing since the env is read only. I'm just wondering how it got to this point. we set the max size (je.maxMemory) to 1572864 bytes.
This is not urgent but is adding noise to logs so any suggestions would be welcome...

It is strange to me also that this is happening in a read-only env. Looking at the code, we don't prevent this sort of eviction in the 3.2 release or later releases. Yet we've never seen this problem before.
This sort of eviction only happens when writing is occurring. Of course, in a read-only env there is no writing. The only way I can think of for this to occur in a read-only env is when there is a very large recovery interval -- the amount of log between the last checkpoint start and the end of the log. This can occur if you didn't close the env cleaning when you last wrote to it, or if the last checkpoint just happened to be very large.
So one thing you could try is to ensure that you have a small checkpoint when you write to the log, before opening it in read-only mode. To do this, just before you call Environment.close, call Environment.checkpoint(new CheckpointConfig().setForce(true)). This will do one checkpoint before closing the env, and then another during the close. The last checkpoint should be small.
If you can't do this, or it isn't sufficient, you could increase the je.cleaner.detailMaxMemoryPercentage env config property. This is the max amount of memory (% of total cache) used for the information that is being evicted. Since nothing can really be evicted in read-only mode, there is no harm in setting this to a much higher value than the default (2). I would try 10. This doesn't reserve or waste any memory, it just prevents this sort of eviction from occurring until a larger part of the cache is used. This is probably the simplest solution.
A third approach is to simply accept that this sort of eviction will be attempted, but try to prevent the exception. If you're willing to rebuild JE (and you're not a supported Oracle customer -- please contact us if you are), then you could simply replace the 'throws' statement with a 'return null' in src/com/sleepycat/je/cleaner/UtilizationProfile.java:

I have following settings to open an read-only and non-transactional environment.

Currently the database size is ~200MB
Is it possible to reduce the time to open an read-only environment ?

Hi,
Open time can be adjusted by checkpoint frequency. You should ensure that when the environment was opened r/w that it was closed cleanly (and therefore a checkpoint was performed). I suggest that if you are unsure if your environment was shutdown cleanly that you re-open it read-write and call Environment.close() on it. Or better yet, just to be sure, call Environment.checkpoint() on it before you call close().
Let me know if that reduces the open time.

Set-up the Airport Extreme in a Windows only environment

Here's the deal. Being abroad for a couple of months, my employer has fixed me a free dial-up internet connection for my temporary home. At work (abroad, that is), I have a broadband connection, so the home dial-up connection is only for very sporadic use, as most of what I'm doing over the internet can be done during the working day, at broadband speed.
It would be neat though, to be able to connect wirelessly on my Dell WinXP laptop over this dial-up connection at home, the few times I'm going to use it. So I thought eBaying one of those nice "old" hockey puck Airport Extremes with built-in 56k modem.
From what I understood, the AE doesn't have a web-based configuration interface, like most broadband routers have, but one needs to configure it installing a software utility, right? Being in a Windows only environment, will I be able to configure my Airport Extreme-to-be using the Windows software on <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75422>? Does anyone of you have any experience with this? If so, could you reassure me that this is actually a feasible idea?
Does the AE dial-in automatically whenever you're generating traffic, by the way, or do you still have to establish the connection manually?

You can configure it that way, but it is easier to use Jon Sevy's Java utility.
Jon Sevy has a Java Utility for this purpose.
You will need Java in order to run the utility

Arch Linux Netboot Environment under grub legacy

I am trying to boot under grub legacy with the following menu.lst entry:

Indeed - more information is needed.
What is your partitioning scheme, is sda6 your /boot parition? Are your kernel and intrd in /boot/grub/? This would be unusual, but it is what that entry implies. Also, where is your root partition specified?
You also don't need the boot command in the menu.lst. I don't know if it would cause a problem, but I've never seen it there. In addition to the links in cfr's signature, you should (have already) read the wiki page on grub legacy.

Discussion - moving to a windows only environment

I am in the progress of moving ZENworks into a Windows only environment
and removing NetWare.
I already have edirectory running on 2003 server and ZENworks running
on the same platform.
I now need to migrate user home directories from NetWare servers to a
microsoft windows platform. You cannot put a \\unc path into the home
directory field of a
an edirectory user object.
So what do you do?
I can think that you need to replace the logon script with a net use
\\server\share\%username and ensure all home dirs exactly match
usernames.
or is there a better way. e.g. move it to a vbscript
What about the zenworks desktop policy objects, 'store roaming profile
in home directory' option. Will this continue to work if the users
home dir field is empty?
NOTE: For the moment i'm keeping the novell client, nw login scripts
although they will certainly go at some point soon. (passive mode or
zen agent only in passive mode)
What is everyone else doing - and don't say moving to oes/sles :-)

Keeping everything same, would probably be the best. While I know very
little about MS home dirs, that makes best sense to me.

No, that will not work correctly. At least the last time I tried it.

If authenticating to AD, then passive mode is probably the best, otherwise
the zen agent will not pass the AD credentials to the MS agent.
Use the Zenworks agent only for deploying apps. Let AD handle policies and
file system access, including login scripts. Things are much simpler that
way.
I know others will have some nice input also.

Oracle Hyperion EPM 11.1.2 Installation on Linux Server Issue

Hi All,
We were downloaded and extracted all zip files (placed in opt/hyperion) from edelivery.oracle.com on LINUX 64 - Server.Before start the installation created new user and assigned to particular group.We are unable to point out the new location for installation, and tried in both GUI and silent installation. In GUI mode the "Browse" option is not highlighted for selecting a new location. It is giving default location eg: some other directory opt/epm.
After finally we found some one already installed EPM 11.1.2 partially in some other directory. But Users are different and Groups (the both users) are same for this installation.
The following error occurred "An existing Middle ware location has been detected .The default location is /opt/epm ".Even we are not able to change the location.
My issue is why it is pointing to older location after deleting all related hyperion folders in /opt/epm.But Seems OraInventory folder files and some files pointing to older location.(We haven't clean that folders).Can i delete those folders as well?
Any inputs would be really appreciated.

I am newbie in infrastructure Hyperion, I'm installing ODI EPM 11.1.2.2 and 11.1.1.6 on Linux redhat 6.3. But I'm having trouble with deployment tools and can not even begin installing ODI, because as below error OS does not meet the prerequisites.
Not'm quite understand the matrix compatibility. it does not report incompatibility with this version. Could you help me?

Light weight Java IDE needed linux only

Hi,
I'm looking for a light weight java ide that will run on linux. An editor with some basic options such as auto-compelte like in jbuilder and eclipse, doesn't have to have a gui designer but would be nice if it could handle packages and such. I'm running 128 mb of ram RDRAM and a p4 1.3 ghz and i'm getting tired of all these ide's not responding every 3 minutes. Could someone please recommend a light ide for java??

I mean why can't you use Eclipse?With only a 128MB of RAM Eclipse is going to struggle. I would second the other posters suggestion of looking at JEdit. But the OP might want to splurge and buy some more RAM, regardless of what editor they end up using.

Why not use Arch Linux only?

Named as an Arch Linux "Linux Addict" (according to my upgraded user profile ), for some times I have asked myself why use other distros than AL, especially RedHat, SuSE and Mandrake. What do they provide what AL doesn't?
One of the roles of RedHat became clear reading Linux Today, though it may not be for the common users but have to admit its impressive (there are three major advances in the new RHEL3 product line....):

let me tell you something i learned by experience ...
i runed SuSE for long time (from 5.2 to 8.1) and what i know they do wrong is: if you have e.g. 6.0 (the most stable SuSE i know) then you can update your packages over internet, but after some time you will be "forced" to buy the next release that is totally differently constructed (7.1, because it uses YaST2 instead of the YaST and other stupid inovations that you cannot easily update from internet) ... and after a while again you have to upgrade by buying the next one ...
sure, you install it in about an hour and everything works, but hey, each package costs some money and this install is each time from quite 0 (because the integrated update often does not work) :-(

i trust only in systems i configure myself ... and since SuSE 7.2 i lost the overview in where you can configure what and why ... and you are not sure that YaST2 will change your changed settings to default
archlinux is fully configureable and does not have a tool that changes files behind your back (well, there is one case: when you update init-scripts with packman without setting in pacman.conf to exclude some files you changed ... but also then you can restore the settings by mv'ing the original files to their right name-links :-)
why using also other distros?
well since arch 0.5 i removed all other linuces from my machine (to save space) and now have only arch and winXP ... xp is used only for watching tv (because hauppauge usb "usbvision" module cannot be compiled with a 2.4.x or 2.6.0tx kernel (but 2.5.x) and because of ebanking software that will not install on archlinux but easily on SuSE and WinXP (need the original sun's java vm, but have no time to construct a PKGBUILD for sun's jdk 1.4)
... and the needed other software i built packages of and installed on my local repository (and also copied in incoming) ... now i'm quite happy with archlinux as an OS (and i hope with a more advanced 2.6.x TV will come too, and java i will find one day time to build for ebanking)

403 forbidden message in linux only

Hi All,
In our project we are accessing one web service from Cisco site,
but recentaly they change their site to HTTPS:// from HTTP://
so they told to us use https from now onwords,
Our local application is on Windows xp & uses tomcat 5.0, and java 1.4, It works properly on wondows environment
But clients application is on linux machine & same tomcat 5.0 & java 1.4, but when we try to access that web service from clients application
403 forbidden message comes & it shows "null" at output.
is this Linux setting problem or tomcat setting problem or do I have to add in java application?? Please help....
Is this right place to ask this question??
Anybody have any idea about this??

ORA-01882: timezone region not found happens on LINUX only?

Hi there...
I trying to use JDeveloper under linux, and the problem I am having is there when I run the application I get the ORA-01882 error. According to the forum, I should set the timezone in the project properties using -Duser.timezone="+01:00" according to the required timezone. I tried running the same project using JDeveloper under windows and I don't get this exception, however under linux I don't seem to fix this. Is there something I am missing here?

thanks for the link, I already found such solution, anyway I solved the problem by using the timezone:
Asia/Culcutta
however if I use a timezone using some kind of a number like
+03:00
for example , then it wont.
What I found is that using +03:00 under windows machine works fine, but using it under linux triggers the error which is strange.
