EPM silent configuration

Hi,
Does anyone have experience using EPM silent configuration?  I see more value for silent configuration than installation.  It seems very useful since passwords can be changed but wanted to know if any gotha.
Thanks.

Hi
I have been using silent installation and configuration and we have semi-automated the process.
You can generate the XML files and use installTool.cmd -silent "RSPfileLoc" and configTool.bat -silent "RSPFileloc"
I did not see any issue major issues but a few issues what I found were as below
1. Registry lock is not released if the configurator was abruptly closed
2. Multiple configuration attempts leads to multiple entries in Windows registry
3. Ensure the WL is on before you start the deploy (This can happen even in GUI based setup)
4. If you are automating it on windows , I did not see a direct method where one process triggers after the other  . Since they open a new Window .

Since it is XP, you should not select ohs,web cache and em. Try again without these and see if it goes through.

  • EPM System Configurator runs for hours

    Hi experts.
Have you ever experienced that your EPM system configurator runs for hours?
I have an 11.1.2.1 installation, and a few months ago, I applied a Reporting & Analysis patch which requires a redeploy of FR, framework and web analysis.
The redeployment took more than 1 hour 20 minutes when it usually takes around 10 minutes.

I checked the CPU and memory log at the time of the deployment, things seem to be normal.
Since i will be applying another patch on Reporting & Analysis soon, I am preparing the work plan and rundowns and I am trying to estimate how much time I need to do this patch.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
I did some researches on my own and found out some article saying the following:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/epm-tips-issues-73-up-399995.pdf
On page 103, it says something about the cluster or IPv6 problem. I don't think the IPv6 is our problem, and I couldn't find the log inside of my configtool log.
    Thank you.

If it only happened once and then all the other occasions it was fine then what is to say it will happen again? I am not sure how easily you are going to find your answer to why it happened on that occasion, I know I was deploying a web application the other day and it took 30 mins when it should only take a few but this was on a shared vm infrastructure which could have been the cause.
    Cheers

  • EPM 11 Configuration with SQL Server 2005

    Hello,
I am having a terrible time trying to get the EPM System Configurer to communicate with SQL Server 2005 Evalution. I keep getting the error "Cannot open database "server" requested by the login. The login failed." I have the windows firewall turned off. The protocol TCPIP is turned on and other protocal are turned off. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

As John mentioned it is supposed to be supported in a future release. That version would be 11.2 -- there will be a version coming out before 11.2 and it will not support 2008.

  • How to run a silent configuration for Forms and Reports 11g ?

    Hi all,
I've run a silent installation for Oracle Forms and Reports 11g R2 in Windows 7 64 bit.
I made it using a response file called install_only.rsp. Now I want to run the configuration also in silent mode.
How can I do it ?
I know that I can use a template called configure_only.rsp. However, i don't know what is the correct syntax for the command to start configuration.
Should I use the same setup.exe installer and inform configure_only.rsp as response file ?
The command below is the appropriate command for this task:
    setup.exe -silent -response configure_only.rsp
Or is there another way to be followed?
    Thanks a lot.

Alright, I eventually found the answer.
Configuration must be run from directory on windows.
    Command is shown below:
    <FORMS_HOME>/bin/config.bat -silent -response <path-to-response-file>

  • EPM system configurator "hangs" ...  noob question.

I have just installed EPM 11.1.1.2 on a WinVista laptop, and am having an issue with the "Shared Services and Registry Database Configuration" step of the System Configurator process. I am using the following params:
    Database Type: Oracle
Server: AXE -> this is my hostname on windows.
    Port: 1521
SID: XE -> i have Oracle 10g XE installed
    Username: system
    Password: password
After entering these params, I click 'Next' and the Configurator just keeps churning endlessly in a limbo state... i.e. it neither proceeds to the next step, nor gives me any kind of error message.
MY database is installed fine - I can login to it, run SQL queries etc without a problem. Also, I am in an administrator role in Windows.
Appreciate advise from the experts and others. I am a noob and have never installed/configured Essbase before.
    thanks!
    Akshay

    Hi Akshay,
I have seen essbase alone working on XP and also Vista ( but , its definetely not a recommended OS). Other Hyperion products like planning ,HFM ...etc they find it very difficult to run on Xp's or Vista's for sure
Rather than wasting your time in debuggin, tweating with an unsupported OS , I would recommend to straight away start your work on 2000 or 2003's . It ll save your time .

  • EPM System Configurator not prompting to use existing tables

    Planning 11.1.1.3.
    Oracle Database
Planning database configured using advanced jdbc URL with alternative servers.
Above is what we have installed and configurations settings we are using.
In the short of it, Our Oracle DBA changed the servicename for the Oracle database to go from <SERVICENAME> to <SERVICENAME.world>. Even going thru TOAD we have to use <SERVICENAME.world> now. When they did this our QA environment is now down and we have to reconfigure all of the databases to account for the new servicename.
We successfully reconfigured the SharedServices database just using the option to connect to an existing configured database and correcting the servicename, and it is working normally.
For all other products we will have to use the configure for first time option to be able to change the properties.
HOWEVER, when we use the 1st-time configuration for planning we are able to correct the properties for the connection and set the new servicename, but when we click next I would expect to be asked whether to reuse the existing tables or drop/recreate them, however, the screen just steps forward to the confirmation screen. In the configtool.log I have the following message:
(Oct 28, 2010, 11:18:12 AM), com.hyperion.planning.HspDBConfigurator, DEBUG, Planning tables exist already but will reuse it as upgrade now -- should be 9.3.X upgrade.
We want to be assured that performing the step without having the option to reuse tables will not wipe and recreate the planning system database.
    So:
    1. Why do we get this error when trying to reconfigure the planning database? Can we ignore it?
    2. What steps do we have to take to ensure that the Servicename is updated in all configuration files, and database locations it is in?
    3. Is there any viable way to do this outside of the configuration utility? (For example only editing files and registry)? If so what steps are required?
    I would greatly appreciate it!
    Robert

I am on 11.1.2.1. I was able to find the solution. I went to the C:\Users directory and copy the oracle.instances file from the original temp ID that had performed the installation onto the account that I want to use going forward. That resolved my issue and I am now able to start EPM configurator for update as well.

  • EPM System Configurator 11.1.2.1 Processing re-registration script failed

    Hi,
I am trying to configure EPM 11.1.2.1 on a Windows Server 2008 box against SQL Server 2008. In the process of configuring, I consistently get an error in the Reporting and Analysis Configuration where the step "Processing re-registration script" keeps failing. The Hyperion Foundation Services are running on another server. Any ideas on resolving this issue?
I remember this happening when I first started dabbling with EPM 11.1.2.1 configuration a few months ago and I know I resolved it, but can't for the life of me remember what I did. If I recall correctly, this issue happens only when the R&A components are being configured on a different server than the Foundation Services.
    Thanks
    Dan

    Hi,
I don't know that if this IS the solution, but this is what worked for me.
I was trying to upgrade an earlier version of Reporting and analysis as part of the initial configuration. That was when the error appeared. So...
I uninstalled EPM and re-installed EPM. In the initial configuration I configured Reporting and Analysis to a new database. Then, while R&A services were down, restored a backup of the earlier version to the newly configured database, copy the RM1 folder over from the earlier version and then perform configuration again, this time choosing the option to upgrade from an earlier release. After that, everything seemed to work.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks
    Dan

  • How to do a silent configuration of SQL Server 2005 to a static tcp port ?

    Hello,
I have a SQL server 2005 but after checking the ports of sql server,it is observed that dynamic ports are being used.
I want to install SQL server 2005 and configure SQL serevr to a static TCP port by using silent mode of installation. There are ways to do it using SQL configuration manager and using server network utility but I want it through the silent mode.
Please help to assist how this can be achieved through silent mode of installation.

    Hi AshishB,
According to your description, you want to configure SQL Server to a static TCP port by using silent mode of installation. I recommend you use WMI scripting and the SQL Server WMI provider. After installation, change the TCP/IP port with the script. For
more information about silent installing with fixed TCP port, you can review the following article.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/914f8b72-3164-47ae-91fb-f7ed6f8ea7e6/silent-install-with-fixed-tcp-port?forum=sqlexpress
There is detail about how to configure that manual by launching the SQL Server configuration manager, enabling TCP/IP connections, specifying the ports from the command line, you can review the following post.

The port number in use indicates something is actually running at currently at that port. Make sure you have all services stopped before reconfiguring, check task manager for any residual processes to kill, or reboot and make sure nothing is running.
