EPM Vs OBIEE

Hello Experts,
What is the future of Oracle EPM ? Right now we are on Hyperion 9.2 and i m stuck in deciding whether to go for OBIEE+ or upgrade to EPM.
Why is EPM used and why OBIEE+? I ask this question because people say that if i need a real time reporting power then I should go for OBIEE otherwise Oracle EPM.
Please guide me gurus.

I think you should plan for OBIEE in terms of reporting. Hyperion is very much a part of the OBIEE and is fully supported by Oracle.
I believe EPM is being phased out and OBIEE is becoming a de-facto standard analytics reporting platform for Oracle.
I'm biased - but I'm selling for what I've bought.
Also, I'm sure your Oracle rep would be happy to provide you with further assistance.

Hello,
Has anyone implemented OBIEE using PeopleSoft EPM datawarehouse. Our client has PeopleSoft FIN and the data is ETL'd to EPM. Now it seems PeopleSoft delivers tons of Ascetial mappings to convert data to OWS (Operational Warehouse Staging) and then populate the Dimension and Fact Tables.
We are having challenge understanding the entire flow. We are trying to implement one module for now. Is there anyone who has done it. Can you please assist in understand the best approach we should take like sequece of jobs we need to run etc.

Peoplesoft EPM vs OBIEE/OBIA

Hello,
I am performing a comparision for a customer related to delivered functionality out of OBIEE. Peoplesoft EPM comes delivered with several datamarts but typically the users have to create their own reports and dashboards using a third party tool. However, I have not been able to find any documentation related to the delivered datamarts and/or dashboards/reports that come from OBIEE/OBIA. My background is more in the Peoplesoft EPM arena rather than OBIEE. Could a more experienced OBIEE indivudal provide me with some quidance on this? Thanks in advance!

OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 authentication through Shared Services EPM 11.1.2 .2

Hi,
Any idea how to get the authentication in OBIEE through Shared Services to work?
We use Native Directory and MSAD in SS, hence we need to get the authentication through Shared Services.
We were able to run this on EPM 11.1.1.3 through LDAP server of Shared services port 28089, surely not working now.
I've tried both of the following but still no luck:

I have not been through this, but hope this helps you though. While we run the System configurator Wizard (EPM 11.1.1.2), we are now having an option to integrate EPM with OBIEE. Have you given it a shot?
I am just thinking, if we could had it configure for us, we could directly access the Subject Areas from OBIEE, just like what Mark had mentioned here : http://www.rittmanmead.com/2009/01/epm-workspace-111-and-obiee-10134-updated/
You could further look into the "SSO using CSS Token" field in the connection pool, too.

Oracle OBIEE and Oracle EPM (Hyperion)

We are planning to upgrade Hyperion EPM version 9.3.3 to the latest verison but we also purchased OBIEE, and Oracle (Hyperion) Planning. I am wondering if anyone has done this and how they all integrate together. My understanding is we have to upgrade from 9.3.3 to Oracle EPM 11.1.2.x and then to 11.1.4.x. Oracle (Hyperion Planning) would be intregated into Oracle EPM 11.1.4. How does OBIEE fit in and where are the integration points?
I am trying to keep the administration to the minimum as well as plan for the future upgrades as weel. Is there any Oracle documenation on this? Has any one done this yet?

You can integrate EPM with OBIEE but as far as I know there are specific versions that can be integrated.

Oracle Business Intelligence Foundation Suite

Hi All,
We recently purchase Oracle Business Intelligence Foundation Suite, but when I go into eDelivery, there is no such download, could you guide me on what I need to download? Do I need to download EPM, then OBIEE? Thanks

It can also depend what and how you are going to use the EPM products as depending on your requirements there is also a version of the essbase suite available with OBIEE
If you don't want the bundled suite which is probably for the best then to install them separately then you only have to go to one place in edelivery
In edelivery select Oracle Business Intelligence 11g then the OS and both the OBIEE and EPM installation files are there so need to go to separate download sections.
If you click the readme button it will display the files for the foundation suite

Configuring integration OBIEE 11.1.1.7 in EPM 11.1.2.3

Hi all I'm trying to finalaze my new virtual machine. According to the document: Oracle Fusion Middleware System Administrator's Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, I'm trying to configure EPM 11.1.2.3 to integrate OBIEE and configure SSO.

Installing OBIEE 11.1.1.7 on existing EPM 11.1.2.3

I've sucessfully create a fresh install of epm suite 11.1.2.3 (planning,hpcm,hfm) on my virtual machine now I want install OBIEE 11.1.1.7
I need suggestion about how to install obiee on the same machine...
1) I need a new weblogic instance on a different port or I can re-use same instance (EPMSystem, running on 7001 port)?
2) I have to install another essbase/studio/easServer/workspace or I can re-use the existing?

If you want to run the EPM weblogic admin server and OBIEE at the same time then you would need for them to run on different ports.
You don't have to select the essbase option when installing OBIEE if you have already installed the essbase products.
I would install OBIEE to a different middleware home than EPM and keep the weblogic domains separate.

@obiee N co. 10 GB available disk space is a minimum (3.5 GB for the Oracle software + 1.5 GB for the database + 3 GB for OEL5 + 2 GB swap)
@rnm, It's just a question of training.
As beginner when I compare an OBIEE installation between Windows and Linux, I still like the simplicity fo Windows.
I'm not in the step, the more I use it, the more I like it.
I face some issues with OBIEE that I find on Linux but not on Windows. Specifically, If you take OC4J.
For instance with BIP, in the last version, just start a big work and the OC4J process take all the CPU. Sure, I miss a configuration...

How to migrate files from "ORACLE EPM 11" to OBIEE 10g / 11g

We are moving from ORACLE EPM 11 to OBIEE 10g or 11g .
Can anyone suggest me how to migrate the files from ORACLE EPM11 to OBIEE 10g ?

It would be a good idea to specify the version you are using.
The general plan can be the following:
A. On source db:
1. Generate scripts for the tablespaces where the schema you want to export has segments (again use toad or ther tools)
2.Generate scripts for the schema you want to export (use toad, dbms_metadata or other tools)
3. Generate scripts for system grants, system roles, privileges you have on objects owned by sys, system, quotas on tablespaces
4. If the schema has grants on sys objects that are not part of the default oracle install but were created later and are specific to that particular db (not a good practice, but it can hapen) and your application is dependent on them, generate scripts for them also (I have come across types owned by sys, when migrating an application with Websphere AS)
5. export schema using exp owner=<SCHEMA_NAME>
6. generate scripts for public synonyms and grants to public on object schema
B. On target db.
1. create tablespaces with generated scripts from A.1.
2. create schema with generated scripts from A.2.
3. grant all privileges from A.3.
4. if non default objects on sys needed, create them with scripts from A.4., grant privileges on these objects
5. imp with option fromuser=<SCHEMA_NAME> touser=<SCHEMA_NAME>
6. create public synonyms, grants from A.6.
7. check jobs - if you import with sys or system user, jobs will be imported under this users; drop jobs nad recreate jobs under your schema

OBIEE and EPM install on Same box

I have installed EPM 11.1.2.2 and OBIEE on same linux box with different weblogic domains. (bifoundation for OBIEE and epmsystem1 for EPM).
But will creating these weblogic domains i used 7001 as the port in both the cases. ( for obiee i used basic install where it takes default port).
OBIEE /analytics is coming up at 7001 but if i try to enter with the epmsystem1 .. it denies the logon.. username and password not correct.
I have few questions here :
1) How can OBIEE and EPM weblogic domains be created on the same port : 7001
2) why my epm instance is not coming up at 7001 although i installed it at 7001.
Because of this if i restart my hyperion services .. they wouldn.t come up untill i stop obiee.. so i have to first start epm and the OBIEE and the other way round would not work.
The best way to avoid this would be create these two weblogic domains on differenr ports, but since i was confused with this behaviour.. thought of asking it to the experts.

The easiest way around it would be when you first deploy one of the EPM web applications set the admin server port to something different than 7001 then it wouldn't conflict with the admin server being used for OBIEE

EPMMaster.rpd Fusion Pack migration from OBIEE 10g to 11g

We have successfully installed OBIEE 10g and 11g on Windows 2008 32bit servers. On the 10g Installation, we have applied the Fusion Pack EPMMaster RPD file and it connects successfully to our EPM warehouse. We want to migrate the Fusion pack to 11g which is also setup on the same platform. Per the instructions in the documentation, we have copied the files (RPD file and Webcat folder) to the 11g server. We run the UA.bat file and it proceeds to start copying the files over fom the RPD and WebCatalog to the new system. It completes this process, but then hangs on starting the Oracle BI server - it never gets beyond that.
We will be purchasing the EPMMaster RPD and know it is not available yet for 11g – however we’re trying to get ahead of the curve a bit and manually fix the items in the presentation layer that will not render correctly in 11g

One thing that I noticed – Since the UA tool does not completely finish --
RPD size on 10g – 42,675KB; 11g – 6,375KB
I manually change the webcat in Enterprise Manager to the EPMMaster catalog -this actually caused additional errors on restart.
Has anyone attempted upgrading a delivered RPD to 11g?

This is a known issue that we have worked through with Oracle tech support. The Dimension Deduction.Deduction Sid causes an error that prevents the UA tool from completing the upgrade process. There are a couple of ways around this, but the fastest is to simply delete the Dimension, the two related hierarchies and the fact table that is joined to this dimension. Physical table do not need to be touched however. There are still issues once it’s moved to 11g, but those can be addressed post migration. Thanks much to the Oracle support team for helping us out with this issue!
