EPMA shared dimension Aliases

Hi,
We have a EPMA application where few of our dimensions are shared. Our flat file imports have loaded the aliases to one of the dimesnsions to the shared library and everything is in sync with the application. . But we are not able to see those aliases in data form and when we check the application in dimension library for aliases it shows this message"The Associated Dimension ID has not been set for this property."
Update: the aliases are not deployed in essbase for those members.
please do help us out.
thanks,

Was able to find the solution from oracle support link.
*Aliases Not Retained When Copying Dimension From Shared Library [ID 1435928.1]*
Use a shared Alias dimension, rather than using a local Alias. If the alias dimension is a shared rather than a local dimension then the dimension member aliases will be retained when you copy a dimension from the Shared Library to an Application Library.
thanks,

  • Planning Shared dimension in EPMA

    Hi All,
We are currently exploring LCM to do application migration from one environment to another. I have managed to restore the LCM extract (Application Metadata) successfully and deployed a Planning application. However, all of my Shared dimension in EPMA for the Planning app seemed are changed to Local. If I tried to manually change the Local dimension to Shared using Share dimension option, all the properties got overwritten. For instance, when I changed my Year dimension from Local to Share, all the Start Year and End Year properties for the Scenario dimensions were blanked out. Does anyone have any ideas on how to preserve the Shared dimension in LCM imports? Thanks.
    Regards,
    Gerd

Once the EPMA has been migrated just convert the Local dimension to shared.
*"1 Edit the application in the EPMA Dimension Library*
*2 Right-click on the Local dimension in the application > Share Dimension*
*In the options screen, choose to "create a new shared dimension" if the dimension does not already exist in the Shared Library. Choose to "merge as shared" if the dimension already exist in the Shared Library and you want to merge it with the newly imported dimension. Choose to "replace" if you want to replace the dimension in the Shared Library with the newly imported dimension."*

  • Error when importing Shared Dimension through LCM

We are using Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3 with an EPMA application. We have one environment where all of the dimensions are in the Shared Library, and the application dimensions are shared from there (DEV environment). In another environment, we have the same application, but its using only local dimensions (UAT environment)
We are looking to migrate some changes to members from DEV to UAT, but don't want to share the dimensions in UAT (yet anyways). Here is how I was going about migrating the dimensions:
    1. In Shared Services in DEV, exporting the dimensions from EPM Architect from Foundation Services (from under Dimensions (Shared))
    2. In Shared Services in UAT, importing the dimensions from the file system into EPMA from Foundation Services (into Dimensions (Shared)), then using the "Synchronize > From Shared Library" to push those changes to the application's local dimensions.
When I import the file system from DEV into UAT, the import fails and gives me the following error message for the Account dimension (only trying the one dimension for now):
    REPORTED WITHOUT ERROR DETAILS
Here is a link to the screenshot of the error: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12604803/HSS-LCM-Error.jpg
It appears that the LCM import does work as it creates the dimension in the Shared Library, but I am not sure why I am getting this error message.
I also tried to import the exported Shared Dimension for Account directly into the application (rather than the Shared Library) by just moving the "Account" file from:
    <export file name>\resource\Dimensions (Shared)
    to
    <export file name>\resource\Application Metadata\Planning Applications\<appname>\Common Dimensions
And this imports without any errors! I'd rather not go this way as it's more of a manual process, and I'd like to keep it as straightforward as possible.
I have searched the error message on OTN, the Oracle Knowledge Base and Google, but haven't really been able to come across any real information.
Any insight you may have would be greatly appreciated!

More of an update. We have a sandbox environment as well, and I was able to import the Shared Dimensions through LCM without any issue on that server.
I also tried rebooting the server with the issues, but still get that cryptic error message.
I looked through the logs and saw this in the EPMA.log
    2011-03-31 15:51:13,194 [[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '1' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'] ERROR com.hyperion.awb.web.lcm.ArtifactManager - Error code is AWB_WEB_ERR_LCM_IMPORT_ARTIFACTS_PATHNAME
2011-03-31 15:51:13,194 [[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '1' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'] ERROR com.hyperion.awb.web.lcm.ArtifactManager - doImportArtifacts: Error importing 'Account' at path '/Dimensions (Shared)'
Seems to be connected to the issue I am having, but couldn't find anything on OTN, Oracle KB or Google. Other imports to this environment work, so not sure why the pathname would throw issues.
I also verified that EPMA and HSS on all environments are using the same version.

  • EPMA shared library relational representation

I want to use EPMA shared libraries to manually maintain certain dimensions for Planning, but also access that metadata to update other external environments requiring the same hierarchy information. I am running on SQL Server 2005. Hierarchies are managed nowhere else in the company and DRM is not a desired option.
I see HYP_HPLAN tables that contain numeric IDs for dimension members and a HYP_UNIQUE_NAMES table that appears to contain the mappings. Am I on the right track looking at these? How would you recommend going about extracting EPMA shared library hierarchy information into a meaningful table or tables for use elsewhere?
    Thanks for your ideas!

It is not more useful to create metadata first in relational if you want to leverage the user interface of EPMA libraries for the maintenance of manual dimensions. Given the business need for some manually maintained dimensions, I think it is much friendlier to have a key user add members, etc. in a hierarchial interface rather than populate a table (likely based on submission of a manually maintained spreadsheet). In my way of thinking, coming from "old school" Essbase, there is intuitive benefit in having hierarchy modeling tools (App Mgr, EAS). So my question still stands and is based on the desire do use EPMA as that tool in a Planning context.

  • Shared Dimension - Local Dimension - Shared Dimension

From dimension library ,in EPMA Planning application. In entity dimension there is shared member for which the primary member is missing (this is because a group of member are excluded from the enity dimension, which do not belong to this specific application this is making few primary members are excluded ).When i make this shared dimension application as Local by performing detach dimension and the share the dimension as merge as shared,
The share member is changed to stored primary.
    Can anyone explain this phenomena.
    Thanks
    Lakshmi

There was an a assication tagged to the referred member in the Scenario Dimension. Upon removing the reference - I was able to delete the said dimension member from Period Dimension.

  • Multiple facts with shared/non shared dimensions

    Hello All,
I have a scenario where we are using multiple facts in OBIEE. Fact1(Inventory Onhand) is joined to all shared dimensions, and Fact2( Forecasting Values) is joined to few shared dimesnions so the joins are like:
    Fact1 with Dim1, Dim2, Dim3, Dim4, Dim5, Dim6..
    Fact2 with Dim1,Dim3, Dim5
I have given the physical joins in the physical layer, later in the logical layer I pulled the fact2 in to to the fact1(multiple LTS) and then set the aggregattion levels for the non conformed dimensions. This was working fine for me but the customer was not happy with this. He doesnt want to have different levels of data in to a single fact.
What are the allternate possible solutions to implement this in the busines layer?
    Any ideas/inputs are highly appreciated.
    - Abhi

    Hi,
I have done the same as explained above. But here the issue is we are getting duplicate data.
For Ex: if i have one common dimmension attribute and two non confirmed dimension attributes with a measure. For non confirmed dimension have different value and for all these values the common dimension attribute is same. Then the common attribute will repeat for all non confirmed dimensions.so, here automatically the Corresponding measures also repeating.
    Common Attr non-Confirm Attr1 non-Cnfirm Attr2 measure
    123 abc xyz 1000
    123 bac yzx 1000
    123 pqr mno 1000
If you observe the above exapmple the confirm dime attr is same for both non confirm dime attrs, so the measure values also repeating here. If i see the data base i have measure data only for ABC record. For Remaining two records it is 0, but here the value 1000 is showing for remaining two records as well.
Please let me know if any one face this issue earlier.

  • ODI metadata integration with EPMA Shared library

    Hello all,
we are in the implementation phase of Hyperion Planning and we have to update metadata using some ETL tool into EPMA.
Is ODI integrates with Oracle and EPMA shared library or not.
if not then we have some other tool to integrates the same.
    Kindly reply.
    Thanks,
    KK

I believe John Goodwin wrote a series of blog-posts to show exactly this integration.
    Here is the first one:

  • Alias in EPMA shared library

    Hi There,
When we add a new member into EPMA shared library using ODI the new item comes into Hyperion with alias/description. However, if I change that description in ERP this does not seem to pass across into Hyperion and it looks like it is a manual task for the administartor to maintain that alias manually.
Could someone let us know the reason and/or resolution for this issue.
    Cheers !!!!

    Hi,
Have a look at below link for the specific details:

  • Antivirus uses epma's Dimension library port

    Hello,
we just installed a new Antivirus and it seems like the port used by that software interferes with EPMA's Dimension and Application Libraries. These 2 time out wiyth 502 Proxy error when av is running. When i disable the av, both dim and app libraries open up.
Is it possible to change the port for both libraries? I went to the inetmgr, but did not find the location to change. Also, looked in the configuration, but did not see the port, i presume it's port 80 (default).
We are on 11.1.2.1, windows 2003 server. many thanks.

Another possibility is that the 502 (bad gateway) error is thrown as a security precaution because OHS is not configured to correctly proxy to the IIS server where epma is installed. You can get these errors if OHS is configured to proxy to SERVERA:80/hyperion-bpma-server and the server resolves to SERVERA.DOMAIN.COM or if you have the IP address instead of the hostname. The proxy setting can usually be found at the bottom of the httpd.conf file.
You can find more on the 502 error here -> http://www.checkupdown.com/status/E502.html

  • EPMA Shared Members not reflecting in Planning application post deployment

    Hi,
I have added a member in 'Entity' dimnesion. The same member is also added in an alternate hiererchy as shared member (Using Insert member option in dimension library). When I refresh the application view, I do see both the original member and shared member in application vieiw. But post deployment, only the base member is reflected in planning application and not the shared member.
I have redeployed the application multiple times now, but i am still not able to see the shared members reflected in Planning application.
Kindly let me know if you have any idea on the same or faced a similar issue?
    Regards
    Meenal

    Hi,
Have you patched up EPMA with patches from Metalink3
    9.3.1.1 Patch includes -
6897835 SHARED MEMBERS IN ENTITY DIMENSION CAN NOT BE DEPLOYED TO ASO/BSO APPS
It is advisable to keep a look out for patch fixes with EPMA
    Hope this helps

  • EPMA Period Dimension - cannot move Base members

I am trying to move Periods out of Quarters and under YearTotal in an already deployed application in EPMA (Planning app).
I want to have YearTotal above Jan-Dec, and Q1-Q4 as Dynamic Calcs with months shared below.
This is all well and good in planning classic where you can just delete the quarters and the months fall under year total.
In EPMA, because this change was not made in advance of deployment, when I make it now I get a validation fail about
"Base Time Periods cannot be moved after an application has been deployed". Fair Enough - if that is the rule then fine but hopefully there is a workaround.
So I moved them back to the original structure, and now I am getting double the number of validation errors - one for moving, and another one for removing !!
Rolled back the EPMA database to resolve the above but my question is has anyone figured a way to move months post deployment ?
    Thanks,
    Dave

I had the same problem and I found a solution.
1/. You have to transform the EPMA application to classic following these instructions:
    - Connect to the planning application, in the top menu click on "Administration > Application > Properties"
    - Add the property "EDIT_DIM_ENABLED", and set the value to "true"
    - Restart Planning Service
    - Connect to the "Application Library", right click on your application and select "Diagnostics"
    - Check the option “Deployed but classic application in product”, click on “run selected test”, then into the “Test Detail” part check the option “delete from EPMA only” and finally click on "apply".
2/. Connect to the Planning application you make your change into the period dimension. ("Administration > Manage > Dimensions")
3/. Finally you transform your Classic to EPMA application following these instructions:
    - Connect to the workspace and use the wizard to convert your classic to epma application ("Navigate > Administer > Transform Classic to EPM Architect")
    - Connect to the "Application Library", right click on your application and select "Diagnostics"
    - Check the option "Deployed but not in product" click on “run selected test”, then into the “Test Detail” part check the option "Retrieve" and finally the option "Syncronize".
    Hope it helps you.

  • Network Shared Variable: Aliasing not working

    Hello!
I am running a cRIO 9075, which is publishing network shared variables.
I can see and modify them within Distributed System Manager.
Unfortunately I am not able to read/write the variables through labview.
What I have done so far:
Tools -> Shared Variable -> Register Computer, using the IP of the cRIO
Adding a Variable to the project. Type = Network-Published, Enable Aliasing, choosing "Browse" to select the variable (all published variables from cRIO are shown there), Access Type = read/write. The PSP-URL is: \\192.168.10.70\WaveformManager\Op
Trying to read the variable results code -1950679034 and the result is always the default value for that data type.
BUT this works: using the VIs Data Communication / Shared Variable / Read/Write Variable  and typing in the same URL the Distributed System Manager is showing is showing (in my case: \\192.168.10.70\WaveformManager\Op)
So, what am I doing wrong? Did I forget something or misunderstand how "Aliasing" works?
    Thanks!

    hi,
in which way to you read your shared variable? If you read it before you write  a value "into" the variable it may couse this waring.
    Have you tried this?

  • Hyperion EPMA Currency Dimension

    Hi,
I was facing issue while loading the hierarchies for Currency Dimension in EPMA through Interface tables.
I'm able to load Gen2 members, but unable to load Gen3 members which is the child of Gen2 members.
Whether there is any limit for currency dimension to be upload only till Gen2 ???
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Thanks for ur reply....
My concern is that, i'm unable to create the Gen3 members , since this is the requirement.
Please try the below Hierarchy, whether it is creating as the Dimension Type is CURRENCY.
    Currency (Gen1)
    All_Currency(Gen2)
    USD(Gen3)
    INR(Gen3)
    Thanks in Advance

  • How to delete EPMA Planning dimension

    Hi,
I have a Planning application deployed through EPMA. I also have some web forms and BRs in the application. I have to delete 2 dimensions from the application. Is there a way to do it through EPMA or through SQL tables? I found a method which talks about deleting references from the planning tables but they are applied to classic planning. Anyone had any experience doing it in EPMA?
    Thanks,
    Nitin

    Hi,
You can copy that EPMA application with different name then delete those 2 dimension from new application and then deploy new application. This will delete your 2 dimensions but i am not sure that copying EPMA application from one to other will keep your web-forms and BR's in new application.
I guess you need to recreate your web-forms and BR's in new application
also the best suggestion is already given by John.

  • 11.1.2 EPMA Essbase Dimension Alias

Dimension Alias contains the name that you want the dimension to have in the deployed app. I have seen this be true for Planning in both 11.1.1.3 and 11.1.2. However in 11.1.2 for an Essbase app, it looks like the name of the dimension in the app is pulling from the Dimension Name rather than Dimension Alias.
Has anyone else seen this? Is this a bug? Are there workarounds?
    Thanks

I have also seen this. I am seeing that the alias also works for HFM deployment but does not appear to control the actual name of the dimension for Essbase deployment. It does, however, set the alias on the top level of the dimension, which is not exactly what i want.
Let me know if you find a work-around to this.
