EPMA slows everything down

I just wanted to get some feedback from people using EPMA successfully.
We have had EPMA installed in our planning server for some time(although we never used it before).
We are trying to evaluate it currently, and find that everytime we turn on EPMA services, it slows down workspace significantly. LCM is slowed down to the point where we cannot even use it.
As soon as we turn EPMA services off, everything goes back to normal.
Is EPMA really that memory intensive? We are quite sure we have enough memory and RAM to support the services.
Has anybody seen this kind of behavior?
Thanks,
Sujani

There are many factors that could play a part, the host that the vm is running on could be highly utilised causing performance issues, there may not be enough spare ram or the processors are not up to spec. You really need to monitor the server to what is happening.
EPMA should not cause everything to slow down if the system is perming well
Cheers

  • It has slowed everything down without any add ons, how do i fix it?

As soon as i downloaded firefox 4 it slowed everything down, i don`t have any add ons, it doesn`t remember all my security settings like passwords or even my name?
I have to keep writing everything in all the time wherever i go or whatever i do.
I`m paying for broadband but i`m not getting it`s speed, it`s very annoying and frustrating when firefox 4 says it`s faster and safer, not on my laptop it`s not?
It will complete almost everything eventually, but it`s painfully slow?
I`ve only got 10meg speed but it`s taking between 1 and 5 minutes to do anything?
I`m only using my laptop for normal stuff like gmail email, eBay, banking, etc.
I don`t use it for games or facebook or porn or anything like that, just basic stuff?
It`s slow all the time for everything?

  • Am I the only one that thinks iTunes slows everything down?

Maybe my computer is just very slow, but I feel like itunes is terrible in terms of memory usage. Every time I start it, it takes forever to boot and slows everything else down. Even if my computer is slow, this is a fault in the program as others don't have this effect... Anyone have feedback?

There's not much in iTunes that would slow the boot process of your computer, since the support processes (Mobile Device Support and Bonjour are the only ones I can think of that start at boot, though I may be forgetting one or two others) that iTunes uses don't start until late in the boot process. So I doubt that all your performance problems stem from iTunes. But you can try uninstalling iTunes - it shouldn't remove your content, but make sure you have a good backup just in case something goes wrong - and see if matters improve. That way you'll know for sure. Alternatively you can try just stopping, or uninstalling, the background processes and see if that makes any difference.
Another possibility is your system's security software, which might be blocking or delaying the launch of some components.
FWIW, I haven't seen any change in the performance of either my Windows XP nor Windows 7 systems after installation of iTunes.
    Regards.

  • ITunes 7 is slowing everything down

I have read about other problems with iTunes 7 - but all my programs on my mac seems to slow way down when iTunes 7 is open.
    - iTunes radio stalls A LOT (even more than before)
    - firefox is slowed while iTunes 7 is open
    - the whole computer slows down while iTunes 7 is open
Is there anyway to downgrade until these problems are fixed? Or anything I can do?

I get this too. Any ideas on what we are suppose to do? It's really frustrating me!

  • I keep getting this message when I try to type a mail in yahoo- "Alert. Couldn't contact Spell Checker." It slows everything down and I get the beach ball

Alert! Couldn’t contact Spell Checker. I keep getting this message when I try to type a mail in yahoo. I get the beach ball and it slows down everything. This has been happening since yesterday. Please help if anyone else has had similar problems or has ideas to fix this. Thanks.

    Chris,
I am having Spell Check probs too - it underlines, but that's all. I Googled and tried 5 different places for an answer - even 'jumped the pond'....but got no answers.
i started a thread, "Spell Checker on the fritz!!", and got one good and reasonable answer...
only it didn't work. It involved a .plist file, and once you toss one and do a re-start, it's supposed to re-build itself. But, no, SpCk still 'on the fritz'. I'm going to do one more re-start, but otherwise....
May the first one on either thread that gets an answer that works - PLEASE let us all know.
Keep your fingers crossed and hold your mouth right - lol. Nikki B.

  • Skype Slows Everything Down

Hi there. I've been having trouble with Skype, and I hope some of you can help. Recently, within the past 2 days or so, Skype slows down my entire computer. It doesn't allow new games to run, and shoots the ping up to around 5000 of games that are already running. My browser will not open new tabs, and I cannot refresh existing tabs. This only happens when Skype is running. I use Skype almost religiously as a way to communicate with friends, and this new problem is frustrating. This has never happened to me before. I tried uninstalling Skype, and then reinstalling it. I've tried countless PC optimizers and they all say that there is nothing wrong. On top of that, whenever I have just Skype open, the messages I send to people take around 5 minutes to send. I've been researching the problem ever since it happened and I can't find any solution.
    Please help!

    Hi,
What OS (Winkey, winver), and Skype version (Help>About Skype) are you running?
Please run the DirectX Diagnostics Tool (DxDiag.exe). Once complete, click Save All information to save this to a text file. Zip the file and post it here.
    Try resetting Skype settings:
    1) Exit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to terminate Skype.exe.
    2) Open explorer, search for %appdata%. 3) Find the Skype Folder.
    4) Rename this folder to something like Skype_Old
    5) Now search for %temp%\skype.
    6) Delete the folder entitled 'DbTemp'
    7) Restart your computer, then launch Skype
You can still get back your conversation history. This data is located in the folder you renamed earlier.

  • How do you stop Mountain Lion slowing everything down

I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion - which I so regret doing now.
I have a 24 inch iMac core duo 2.6ghz with 8 GB RAM (mid 2009) and a mid 2010 Mac Mini core duo 2.4ghz with 4GB RAM - so both with maximum RAM installable. Both Hard drives are under half full.
I use the Office 2011 for Mac software as well as the normal iLife suite. I occasionally use parallels to run some Windows software, but I always swith parallels off when not using it. And I occasionally have logmein running when I am going to be away for a few days, but switch it off when I am back. That's it - nothing too weird.
Since upgrading both to Mountain Lion I now experience a hige slowness in using anything. Web pages take ages to load. A Word dociment can take 30 second to open. It takes over 90 seconds to start up iMovie etc.
I saw posts on this formum suggesting that I
    a) Repair disk permissions
    b) delete the caches in ~/Library  and in /Library
    c) reboot
I have done all these things. Immediately afterwards my system speeded up to a more acceptable level. But 2 days later and it is back to an unacceptable slow speed
Surely I dont have to keep doing the three things above every day?
is there a way of going back to Snow Leopard? That will be much cheaper than having to buy a new iMac (which are way too expensive and the 21inch screen would be a downsize from what I have now and the bigger screen is even further beyond my budget
Or can anyone help me get Mountain Lion working quickly - all the time?
    Many thanks

I have the same early 2009 24" iMac as you do and I just completed reverting back to Snow Leopard from Mountain Lion.
The process was time consuming and took about 3 days to do. I also reverted an early 2011 MacBook Pro which also took 3 days.
Basically the first thing is to completely backup your machine as it now is under Mountain Lion. You may also want to drag and drop all of your user folders and shared folders onto the backup HD. Make a copy of all of your passwords, software licenses and the Mountain Lion keychain onto the backup HD.
iLife '11 and iWork '09 run under Snow Leopard and so those are not an issue. They can just be reinstalled after Snow Leopard is running.
The four parts of the reversion that entail some work are; 1: converting your Mountain Lion Mail boxes to Snow Leopard, 2: converting your Mountain Lion iPhoto Library back to Snow Leopard, 3: converting your Contacts (Address Book) to Snow Leopard and 4: converting Calendar (iCal) to Snow Leopard.
Converting Mountain Lion Mail to Snow Leopard
              1. From your user Library, copy the Mail folder to your backup HD
              2. Double-click the Mail folder and the V2 folder will open
              3. Double-click the V2 folder and your will have a list of your email addresses and a folder called Mailboxes
              4. These folders contain your mail box files (mbox) from which you can recover all of you email and import it back into Snow Leopard. In each email account, you will need to open a number of folder to get to the actual mbox file. The Mailboxes folder contains your On My Mac mailboxes (you may or may not have any of these).
Converting Mountain Lion iPhoto Library to Snow Leopard:
1: Control-click (Right Click) the Mountain Lion iPhoto Library file
2: Look for a folder named Masters
              3. The Masters folder contains all of your original, unmodified photos
              4. Copy the Masters folder to your backup HD as you will use it to import your photos into the Snow Leopard iPhoto Library
Converting Mountain Lion Contacts to Snow Leopard
              1. From Mountain Lion, export all of your contacts as vCards and save these on your backup HD
              2. These vCards will be imported into the Snow Leopard Address Book
Converting Mountain Lion Calendar to Snow Leopard
              1. From Mountain Lion, export all of your calendars as iCal files and save these on your backup HD
              2. These iCal files will be imported into the Snow Leopard iCal (Calendar)
Be sure to do all of this preparatory work first and that the backup files are usable.
Using the Snow Leopard installation DVD, restart your machine while pressing the C key to start from the DVD. Use Snow Leopard's Disk Utility to erase the hard drive completely overwriting it with zeros. (Be sure to select the hard drive itself and not just the Macintosh HD partition as you want to completely erase the HD). This will take about an hour and a half.
Next, Install Snow Leopard and then apply ALL software updates. You will need to repeat Software Update until Software Update displays the software is all up to date message. Next install iLife, iWork and all other Apple software and again, apply ALL software updates. The point is to get the standard Apple software running and configured before installing any other applications.
The iTunes library is the same for Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion so just restore your iTunes library from the backup and it will work.
At this point you can restore your Mail, iTunes, iPhoto Library, Contacts and iCal. When all of the Apple components are running correctly, install all other software and restore your user data.
I've been a programmer and in the IT industry for over 30 years and if there is one piece of advice I can give you it is this: take your time doing all of this and be sure that each component is working correctly before moving on to the next. It's tedious and time consuming but it can be done.
For me, the deal breaker with Mountain Lion is the way that saving files is implemented. This is a type of version control and version control has always been problematic just as syncing is. You never know what syncing really means and what is changed until it's too late.
Also, there was a lot of useful functionality removed in Mountain Lion and a number of things added that have no place in an operating system.

  • Can Firefox NOT run ads? It slows everything down on my old laptop. This feature used to be an option.

When opening a we page, several active ads start execution, and the response to mouse clicks and arrow movements is severely attenuated. Firefox of old had an option to not run scripts, I think more than once, and this would give my old slower CP a break and allow useful controls again. Possible to re-implement?? I hope??

  • I pressed RESUME instead of NEW SESSION how do I get that option back to stop what seems to be my Firefox on a continuous loop and then slowing everything down. I have Mac OS X with Windows?

Firefox keeps opening a forum tab and lots of other tabs show up at the top of the screen and little curly things going round and round (sorry to sound so technical !)

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Keep getting a dialog box that say that a script on this page is either missing or non-responsive, and this slows everything down.

This only happens when online using Firefox. And seems to happen more often when transferring a document or picture to my Document file. By the way, I am using Windows XP. I have tried a fix called Script Stop, but the problem persists.
Aside from going back to Explorer, is there anything I can do?

  • Creative Cloud app starts ugrading software automatically without being asked. Slows everything down. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

Is there a way to stop this automatic upgrade of programs in CC without giving consent. It really brings things to a standstill if you are in the middle of a projects.

I'm usually at a connection so it's only once I'm on the road that I see it happen this way so I'll have to mess with it all when I'm not at one again.  I guess I need to be online to create in admin acct, probably, not really sure what you mean by that, but I'll look into it.  I'm not using any special software that I know of that should conflict with it.  This is with both my machines one a 2008 macpro and the other a 2011 macbookpro, just running regular OS as far as I know.  I'll have to actively test it soon again.  Do you mean an admin acct of my adobe id sign in or something just within Premiere?

  • All kinds of problems with scripts running and slowing things down. It always has to do with "chrome". I sick of it and am going back to IE if I can't get this resolved this weekend.

What do you want to know.....it's been going on for months and I can't seem to get it resolved. It's definitely a conflict with FF and why you can't resolve it, I have no idea. I've searched the net and these error messages are everywhere. Don't you think it's time you address this.
At this point I really don't care if I use FF any more. It's slowing everything down on my machine and if you don't have the experience to correct it, then back to IE I'll go.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    *https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
