Eporting final cut file

When I export a final cut file to a mov file, I make it self contained. However, recently, when I export a fC file I get a video file and an audio file. How do I correct this problem. BTW I check the box to make the mov file self contained.

Media Manager. It's available from FCP's File menu bar item. MM will consolidate your entire project and associated media into a single folder to a locvation of your choosing.
I find it to be pretty much self explanatory but it is covered in detail in the manual -just in case.

What is going on? this is very frustrating as sometimes need to move around my working projects to other computers.

What is the best way of compressing a large 3 hour final cut file. I shot the play and it is in final cut and I rndered it so now I have a 22gb file that I need to put on a dvd . Any suggestions

Presuming your menus aren't complicated(include audio or video) the total size for the MPG-2 and AC3 files should probably be under 8GB for a dual layer disk. The inspector will tell you the estimated size. 2-pass varible bit rate would be recommended.
Trying to fit 3 hours on a DVD-5 will only bring very noticable quality hits. Compressor will let you change the average bit rate so that you can fit 174 minutes but trade-off isn't worth it in my opinion.
Be aware that dual-layer -R and +R media may not play well for everyone everywhere.
I presume you are not making 1000 or more copies? If you were replication could solve this.
One other alternative would be to break-up the show into two parts and spread it across two DVD-5s.

  • Using Compressor 4, How do you create a droplet to transcode from final cut files to mp4, mp3 and m4v formatting?

Using Compressor 4, How do you create a droplet to transcode from final cut files to mp4, mp3 and m4v formatting?

Take a look at this section; it's pretty clear.
Compressor offers settings for each of the output formats you want. (For example, the m4v sttings for Apple Devices.)
    Good luck.

  • Final Cut File Signature?

Hello all... I am trying to recover my Final Cut files using EasyRecovery and it asks for file signatures (signature hexadecimal format 8 bytes) I wish to recover. Does anyone know what the FCP file signature is?
An immediate response would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi e45blue~
You are very correct. My situation is a little complex so I will try to explain further here.
I got a LaCie 500GB external HD that I have been using with my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.4.11). I saved most of my work there and it was a nice device to use.
Yesterday, I needed to transfer something off a PC urgently so I tried to connect it to my HD. Normally, PC could not recognize it as it was under FAT16. As usual, it couldn't detect the drive. I opened "Disk Management" in Windows and saw my drive. I thought perhaps it was not working because it was not named, so I chose "Add Volume" on it and named it "R:". When I did that, the system asked me if I wanted to format my drive. I chose "No." It still couldn't read afterward so I gave up and replug it to my Mac.
This time, an error window popped up and said it could not read my HD. Only three options were given: Initialize, Ignore, and Eject. From "Disk Utility," I noticed that my HD was no longer under the name I gave it long time ago. Instead, it was under a factory name as "SAMSUNG xxxxxxxx." The scariest part was that when I clicked the "Partition" tab, it showed my drive as one big piece of untitled partition of 479GB! (I have used up to 180GB of space before this whole thing happened) Horrified, I plugged it back to the PC I was using and un-name the "R:". Ever since that, the drive was unreadable on either machine.
I tried to recover the disk on Mac with my Disk Warrior. When I did that, it said the drive was not readable because it was not under the Mac system but under the MS-DOS system instead!
That's also why I am trying to recover it with Easy Recovery now...... but no success yet.
I have lots of my photography and video work inside this drive so it is very important for me to get all data back (including the FCP).
Do you think all my data is lost in this case, or do you have any suggestions for me? Would initializing the disk erasing all the data???
    Thank you.

  • How do I move my default final cut file location from the hard disk to an external thunderbolt drive?

I have FCPX and just bought a MUCH faster TB external drive and don't want to work off the internal hard drive anymore due to speed and space.  When I first open FC it shows my external (Lacie) drive but then goes away and only shows the internal Mac drive.  I cannot figure out why it would find the Final Cut Projects and Events files on the external hard drive and then make them go away.  Please help if you know the answer.  Thanks.

I've experienced that behavior if the external drive has a file named something like AVCHD, DCIM, movies or similar at the root level of the drive.

Transitioning from an older G5 Pro to a new iMac. My Final Cut Express files are on a 2T WD external HD. When I try to load a project to the iMac I get a "General Error 41" and the files do not load. Took the WD the Apple Store and tried it on one of their iMacs...it works fine. The problem seems to be in my new iMac, other WD's with different files load OK. Any ideas?

    Hi
Can it be so that You try to boot a G5 (Power) Mac from one external hard disk - then try to boot an INTEL Mac from same external Mac.
WILL NOT WORK - It's not just the Mac OS Extended formation that plays a part here - they have to be formatted differently to be bootable on each system.
I don't think there is any solution to this AT ALL.
When You format a hard disk.
    • Select Partitions
    • Under the graphic representation to the left there is an Alternative button
Here You select if it's supposed to be Bootable on a Power CPU or INTEL-CPU
    No other possibilities.

  • Final Cut File Migration/Offline Reconnections Question

    Howdy!
I have a 2 hour film with over a thousand associated files I'm editing. Because he's concerned about some erratic behavior the drive has been exhibiting lately, the director wants me to move all the files to a new terabyte drive.
Here's my question: First, is there an easier way than manually looking for every single file and then copying it over? Is there something within Final Cut that will allow me to tell it, "Copy all necessary files to 'x'?"
Second: I copied a large portion of the files over to a new drive already in one attempt, and thereafter tried to open the original Final Cut project file again. When I opened it, the files were, of course, offline. When I went to reconnect them, it wouldn't let me tell it to just search the new drive for those files. When I click on "search" it just gives me the "I'm not gonna do that" sound. So is it impossible to have it autosearch the new drive for the offline media? Or will I have to manually reconnect everything now that it's been moved?

  • Best way for exporting a final cut file

Hi, I'm exporting a final cut project so i can use it in dvd studio pro 4. But it's over two hours. does anybody know the best way to compress it?

    Your post isn't clear.
Are you exporting it through compressor to mpeg2/m2v or are you exporting a self contained movie to be encoded in Compressor?
    There's a different.
If self contained, use the current settings default.
In any case, clarify what you are doing.

  • Compressing final cut file to burn

Could someone please help me? This is my first time on this forum so hopefully I am posting correctly.
I have a FCP project that I am trying to burn for a friend to be copied onto those little business card DVDs. The disk only holds 5min/50mb. I have compressed the file down to about 30mb but every time I burn it in iDVD it triples in size therefore surpassing the 50mb maximum.
Any advice would be so greatly appreciated.

It is just under 5 minutes in length and was 1.4GB.
Do you mean that you exported a QT file with "Current Settings" that was 1.04 Gb?
I compressed using QuickTime Coversion (I have not learned how to use Compressor yet.) I tried a million different combinations to get it to the size I needed and ended up with a 320 X 240, H.264 with 150 fps which resulted in a 30MB file.
There is no need to do this. iDVD will compress it to the proper format for DVD, which is mpeg2. By doing it this way you are compressing it to a format that will not work on a DVD (unless you are just trying to create a Data only DVD) and then iDVD is then trying to create an mpeg2 file to go on a DVD. That's why you are getting crazy file sizes.
Now you said that you want this on a Business Card sized DVD. I do not know if the file that you get out of iDVD will fit. iDVD doesn't give you much control of the final file output. It defaults to giving you the best quality that will fit on a 4.7 GB DVD. I don't use iDVD much so you may want to look for a setting that will allow you to set your output to the smaller DVD.
Best thing for you to do is to dig into the manuals and learn how to get footage into FCP and how to use Compressor to get it out. You are really going about things backwards here by going from iMovie to fcp to idvd.
Finally, if you have gotten just a plain old QT file out of FCP (FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE - Current Settings, Make movie Self-Contained) then just drop that file into iDVD and let it do the work.
    Good Luck,
    K

  • External Drves Not accepting Final Cut Files?

After attempting to save my files in my ext. HD (usb 300 gig) it will not open the file and states file unable to open. when I look in the info tab it shows nothing.
If I change the storage default to the internal drive, it saves it and it can be retrieved just fine. Any idea why it wont save to ext HD? it works ok with the iMovie files just fine?
    Thanks
    Tim

I did designate it as a scrtch drive, but I m thinkin the ext HD should be FW, Thanks for such a quick response.
Something I just tried and worked well, --- I copied from my int HD to the ext HD (FC files) and it worked, but too many stepps, i'm going to get a FW hd , any advice?
    Thanks

  • Final cut x - proxy- file locations

ok so i have been looking at the help on this and there isn't much that I can understand.
There also doesn't seem to be a way to determine where your cache or scratch is unlike the old final cuts.
So here is my issue. I am not really sure where my files go and how they work in regards to workflow.
I have an external drive that I have for my editing. I have somehow been able to put the current files on the external drive when I import them directly from my camera because when I load up final cut without the external drive, the files are not available.
now my current tree structure for final cut x as far as I can tell is this.
Under my local hard drive, in my movies folder final cut x has created folders.
    "Final Cut Events"
    "Final Cut Projects"
    what are these folders for?
because on my external drive, which is where I am trying to keep all my final cut files the structure is like this
    "Final Cut Events"
Now, i guess I am having a little trouble understanding how final cut x distributes videos. and the reason I ask this is because I am just learning about and working with proxy files, so much easier.
So when I import now I will be importing to proxy files, will final cut x import the orig file and place it on my local drive, and then make copies of it for my external drive?
if anyone can point me to a good read of faq or something that really explains this to me that would be fantastic
    Thanks
    bret

Final Cut puts your videos where you tell it to :-)
When you import media, you select the event to import it into. That will deternine where the files go.
Each event resides in a specific drive, but you can have different events in different drives.
Everything related to an event is store in a folder named after that event. Event folders live inside a folder named "Final Cut Events". The location of this is in your Movies folder, if inside the internal drive; and it is at the root of any external drive.
All proxy, optimized media, render files will be stored inside the respective event folder.
For example, you can choose to import into an existing event, or create a new one, like in the picture below.

  • How to save Final Cut Pro project to an ftp server to then open on a different computer

Hello, I work for a graphic design firm that also does video production for businesses. We are using Final Cut Pro X in our office which has an FTP server connected to all office computers.
What we want is to be able to have on employee start a project in Final Cut Pro X, save it to the server; then have another employee open up the same project and continue working from a different computer.
Right now, we have a lot of our Final Cut files saved to the server, and the files will show up in the server on the other employee's machine. BUT, we scroll in the server to the file for the Final Cut Pro project on the other computer, and the file is grayed out, unable to be opened on the new computer.
I've tried right clicking and choosing "open with Final Cut" and Final Cut does then open, but right before it opens the project within Final Cut, a message comes up saying "The document could not be opened. Open documents from within Final Cut Pro," which of course, I see no way to do that from within Final Cut Pro.
I've also called Apple Care, they reminded me that we can't have one project open on two computers at the same time, and that's fine. We are willing to close the project on computer one to then open on computer two.
If you have an answer let me know. We don't want to have to load onto an external hard drive to then load onto the other machine, especially since we have a server ready to go.
    Thanks for your help.

You can share projects via the ftp server, but you need to:
    1) Have all the media in identical events on each editor's machine;
    2) Set up the project  and share the entire folder for that project first;
    3) Afterwards, you can share just the project file itself
You CANNOT work directly on projects and events stored in the ftp server.
See Steve Martin explain how to do all this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu-ga7fxKh8

  • Final Cut Studio 2 trouble

ok, i have final cut studio 2...
for some reason my Mac OSX software got messed up so i had to reinstall Mac OSX...
then i had to go through the process of fixing everything back to normal...
Such as reinstalling applications and such.
My Final Cut Studio 2 programs weren't working, so i decided to delete all the final cut files instead of uninstalling ( Dumb Idea )...
and for some reason after deleting all the apps... i check my hard drive, and i only got rid of 5GB or so...
and that didnt make sense to me b/c FCS 2 is a 50 GB program...
so does anyone know where i can find the rest of the files? or how i can get rid of them ...
please i need help here i would like to install FCS 2 again... but dont want to be stuck with 10GB left in my hard drive...
    Thank, Please Help me

you didn't get all of the support files for DVD Studio Pro (8.53GB), Soundtrack Pro (22.68GB), LiveType (10.93GB), and Motion (7.79GB). By default these are located in /Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Studio and Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro. If you delete them you will only be uninstalling media, no apps. And these are the things that make it take so long to install. When you re-installed the OS, did you wipe the HD first and then install, or did you archive and install. Make sure you do a full wipe of the HD using disk utility while booting from the install DVD and then install the OS and then updates, and then apps, and then updates again. Stay away from OS 10.5.5 and QT 7.5.5. I recommend OS10.5.4, QT 7.5, and FCP 6.0.4. So far I have not had any issues with this combo.

  • Final Cut Express 4 and Final Cut Pro 7

I have been working at school on Final Cut Pro 7
I just bought Final Cut Express 4 thinking it would be a cheaper way for me work at my home computer. However, when I open my Final Cut files (created in Pro 7) I get a message that says their format is too new for Final Cut Express 4.
Is there a solution to my problem? Is it really not possible to go back and forth between Final Cut Pro 7 and Final Cut Express 4?
Is there some creative way of making this work? Help!

Unfortunately not. You can start the project in FCE. Open it FCP, but once it's saved in FCP, it will no longer open in FCE. (It's not supposed to anyway, though it does rarely in some cases where very little is done in FCP.)
