EPrintCenter obscuring my desktop

Hello, I'm actually helping out my elderly neighbor installing his new HP Deskjet 4615 All-In-One, windows 7 x64, everything went ok, but now and then ePrintCenter comes up either by itself or by clicking in the solution center on the ePrint tab, ePrintCenter obscures the whole desktop, hiding the taskbar  making it impossible to resume the desktop, no close or exit found on it.
The only way out is to press Alt+F4 and then it closes and we are back to HP solution center main window. I understand it's a web page with no browsing controls and by clicking the right mouse button and selecting back, is another way to close it, both methods I've found are much too complicated for me neighbor.
Any simpler solution for closing ePrintCenter or avoiding it all together? Maybe disabling or removing it?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
Run HP Update to make sure all relevant are updated and then try accessing the solution center to check.
If the update does not work, then you may follow the steps below as a work around
Right click on the solution center shortcut that is available on the desktop screen and click on properties
Go to shortcut tab->Target -> will show as "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Deskjet 4615 All-In-One series\Bin\HP Deskjet 4615 All-In-One.exe"
you need to add  “-Start UDCDevicePage” at the end of the target location
Example the target path should be as <<<   "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Printer name XXX series\Bin\HP Printer name xxxx series.exe" -Start UDCDevicePage    >>>>
Hope this helps you !

  • Lion OS - Viewing one window/application at a time after using Show Desktop

Please note I am using a MacBook, but it is connected to a monitor and I use an external Apple keyboard, so those are the shortcuts I am using.
In Snow Leopard, when I had a lot of windows open and I wanted to, say, drag a file from the desktop into a specific folder in the Finder, I used to use F11 to show the desktop, then choose the Finder from the dock, and that is the only one that would appear. Then I could could easily drag files from the desktop into a folder, etc.
Now when I try Command+F3 to show the desktop, and choose the Finder, all of the windows I have open repopulate the screen, with the Finder on top - obscuring the desktop.
Is there a way to quickly sweep away extra windows and choose only ONE to view at a time? (e.g., so the only thing you see on the screen is that one window and the desktop?)
    Many thanks in advance!

  • Problem with mac interface

    Hi !
I just installed Dreamweaver CS4 on my new Macbook Pro. I used to use Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows. But, I have a problem with the interface on my macbook : when dreamweaver is running, I can see my desktop : there is no background like in a MDI application (on windows). To illustrate my problem, I took two screenshots :
    on mac :
    and on windows :
So, I would like to know how to have the same interface with Mac OS X than with Windows.
Thanx for your help and sorry for my english but i'm french.

Click the green zoom (+) button in the top-left corner of the window to switch between a larger and smaller window size.
Depending on the active application it either fills the entire screen or zooms to the size of the last largest size of the window that you set yourself by dragging bottom righthand corner to desired size.
Photoshop has various ways to hide the Desktop. Either by using the Application frame (which doesn't neccessarily hide the entire Desktop) or by pressing the key F. Wanted by PC users but usually not by Mac users. (I would personaly never use it as it obscures the Desktop so you cannot easily reach other applications and documents by just clicking them to call them into the front and get active).
DW doesn't have an application frame but it is easy enough to fill the entire screen with the active window, particularly if you open up a few panels and dock them to each other and use Split screen view with code on one size and design on the other, then place various bars at top and bottom. When you have organized it to your liking, save it as a Workspace (Window/Workspace Layout/New Workspace) and you have it handy for future use.
Learn how to use the windows and workspaces in an efficient way and one of these days you might get used to it...

  • New CS5.5 documents always open UNDER floating tools palette!

Long time Indesigner, just upgraded to CS5.5...and so far so good. Except for this one annoyance. IN CS3, which I have been using, a new ocument opens to the immediate right of the floating toolbox in upper left corner of my workspace. But in CS5.5, a new document window goes UNDERNEATH the tools, partially obscuring the rulers and small box in upper left that is used to drag the 0/0 measuring crosshairs to make new measurements. Sure, it is fine each time I open a new doc to (a) resize the window a little smaller so the lower right sizing grabber thingy is visible when I (b) grab the sidebar, pull the doc out a little ways, and then (c) use the lower right sizing grabber thingy to resize the doc window to my workspace so it is now pinned ot the right edge of the floating toobox. BUT SHOULD I REALLY HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY TIME? Is this a new feature of some kind? Opening new docs in CS3 did not require this resizing dance each time, it is just annoying and a step backwards in useability.

MAJOR changes in the user interface between CS3 and CS5/5.5. I'm guessing you are on Mac as Windows users don't have as many options, but there is now something called the Application Frame and with that also comes tabbed windows like in a browser. Using the application frame, with or without tabbed windows, I think, solves this problem, but I'm a Windows user so I'm going on memory from other posts, and many Mac users seem not to like the application frame as it obscures the desktop.

  • Files opening really small

When I open up a psd files they open at 0.13%. Really small. Today they all opened at this size. I'm using
CS4 on a Mac Pro running OS 10.7.5. How do I get files to open at 100%.

Sounds like you've pulled up the bottom of the Application Frame to stop it obscuring the Desktop then subsequently opened files are opened tiny. If so, click the + (green) button at top left of Photoshop to maximize the AF, then if you don't want the AF, disable it in Window menu.

  • Problem with z61m screen

    Hi all,
Hopefully others have had this same problem and can offer guidance.  I haven't had much luck finding answers online, and the Lenovo technical support folks haven't been of much help (for the reason below).
The bottom half or so of the LCD on my z61m no longer works - which is to say, a hazy grayish area appears over that area (across the entire screen, extending about four inches up from the base of the screen) that totally obscures the desktop.  If you move the screen itself back and forth rapidly, or tap the side of the screen near the base (where the screen meets the base), sometimes it will work for a few seconds, but quickly fades again to the gray.  The fact that the laptop otherwise works very well, and that these solutions work for a few seconds at a time, make me think it's some problem with the connection between the video wires and the LCD.
Unfortunately, Lenovo technical support informed me that if I send the laptop in for repair, the repair could range from something insignificant all the way up to $475 (for replacement of the LCD).  Since the laptop is two years old and is basically used as a secondary computer, I don't want to spend that much fixing it, but we were told that once a credit card number is provided and the laptop is sent along in the postage-paid box, Lenovo cannot notify me of the cost of the repair before I decide to go ahead with it.
So, I was hoping someone here either (a) had this same problem and knows it to be a cheap/relatively cheap fix, in which case I'd be more comfortable sending in the laptop, or (b) knows of a way to have Lenovo notify you of the cost of a repair before they proceed.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum!
This has been a fairly common problem with Z series units, and the cure is LCD replacement.
Brand new LCDs change hands for under $200 on eBay. If you are handy and careful enough, replacing the LCD isn't that much of a problem.
Hope this helps and good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

  • Help!  iMac monitor problem

I was online downloading and reading emails when all of a sudden, long pixels the length of my screen and in varying widths in various colors appeared on my screen obscuring the desktop. When I move my mouse, the pointer became scrambled and whereever I move my mouse over to, the image under it gets scrambled with glitchy pixelated graphics. I was downloading emails at the time so I thought perhaps its some kind of virus but I hadn't opened any email attachments. I quickly forced my computer to shutdown, holding down the power button and restarted. Same thing happens, the whole screen has the long bars with various widths, looking glitched. I put in an OS X install disk and restarted from that, and it appears to be ok while starting up from it which lead me to believe its a software/hard disk problem. But after I re-installed OS X and restarted again to read the system software off the hard disk, the pixelation came back. I couldn't get to my desktop using OS X install disk so I had to restart using the original system 9 disk (no screen problems here as well) that came with my iMac for it will allow me to go in back up some of my files from desktop first because it seems like I would have to re-initialize my hard disk and re-install everything. Anyone have any insight on this?

iMac SE DV   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

okie dokie...now i'm really scratchin' my head on this one: since i last posted, i just left the computer alone to rest and just recently i tried to start up the computer using the OS x system that in the computer already . i got to the white apple screen, (no pixelation, just like normal) and the little pin-wheel thingy spins for like 5 - 10 mins then a black blue screen with a white box with pixelation which i'm thinking is the arrow. when I move the mouse it doesn't move. then i did a force shutdown. when i tried again to start up from the system 9 disk that came with the computer, the start up screen with color bar pops up (no pixelation, as normal), then as the color bar is almost filled, then comes a black/blank/dead screen. What do you guys think it is now?
I guess the only thing i can do now because I can't see properly what's on the screen, is take the harddrive out and hook it as an external drive to get the files I need out of it. does anyone know if its possible with these harddrives?

I have Palm Desktop 4.2.2.  In month view of date book, there are blanks between entries.  Sometimes entries are obscured/out of view but would be viewable if I could move them into empty space for that day.  Any way to move entries into blank lines/spaces?  I have tried entering times/no times, repeat/no repeat.  Doesn't seem to make a difference.  Wasted space that could be used for viewable entries.  Help would be appreciated.  Thank You

  • Applications/documents not opening from Finder/Desktop

iMac 17" 800. I returned home after 3 months away to find the iMac in a mess (it is used by my wife and daughter). I repaired preferences and then found the disk to be not repairable with Disk Utilities. I started as a Target Drive and repaired from my MBP using Mac Pilot. Disk Utility showed repair to be good.
The problem is that I can start applications from the Dock and from the Finder using the "Action" box>Open. I cannot open an application by clicking on it nor a document in the Finder. Folders on the Desktop are equally not responsive.
I have done an Archive and Install to Tiger 10.4 and updated back to 10.4.11. The fault was the same throughout. I have deleted User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist-com.apple.finder.plist-com.app le.LaunchServices.plist. All to no avail and the fault remains.
The only other outstanding fault is that the Return key on the keyboard appears to be out of action, although I now get an audio acknowledgement of it being pressed, if nothing else. I am, as all the above has so far failed, wondering if there is some obscure connection?
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

PS Can a keyboard still be flushed out under the tap?

To those of you who might have the same problem!
Just after making this post, I decided to try logging out and logging back in, something I had not done, as far as I can remember, since the computer came out of the box some years ago. I have no idea what happens when you do this with regard to software, but lo and behold, everything is working again. How this happened after an archive and install plus all the upgrades failed to achieve anything I have no clue.
Now to stick the keyboard under the tap - you never know!?

  • Update data folder in Palm Desktop 6.2.2

I've got an installation of Palm Desktop where my data files are kept in a non-standard location on a different hard drive. This helps keep the important address and datebook stuff separate from my primary file system. Sometimes Palm Desktop loses track of what I'm trying to do and appears to wipe all the data out. Upon closer inspection, I found that it had created a new database on:
    C:\Palm OS Desltop\
naughty naughty , because it should be in My Documents (on a different hard drive, the J:drive) which should be:
    J:\my docs\Palm OS Desktop
You can tell your Palm Desktop to go to the correct place by:
    1. shut down Palm Desktop
    2. shut down the HotSync Manager (right click on the task bar icon and hit 'Exit')
    3. run regedit (start> run> type in "regedit", hit enter
    4. navigate inside regedit to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\Core
    5. modify the "Path" from "\Palm OS Desktop" to "J:\my docs\Palm OS Desktop", with out the quotes
    6. restart HotSync Manager, run Palm desktop, and you should be good to go.
A little note: the program regedit is not for the feint of heart. You are modifying some pretty obscure, but important, data that the software on your computer uses for behind the scenes stuff. Be very careful when making changes to Registry using regedit. If you screw this up, you could find yourself in a tricky situation.

Hello. I know I'm responding to an old post, but I want to refer to the procedure outlined here.
Before sending my laptop in for repair I removed my Palm Desktop data folder for security reasons. It was in a non-standard place (D:\Palm\Palm Desktop). Now, with my laptop back, I can't get the Desktop or Hotsync to recognize this path. I tried the regedit you suggested, but my path is still not recognized. Desktop creates C:\Users\Bob\Documents\Palm OS Desktop instead.
This is maddening because I know I did this successfully when I bought the machine 3 years ago.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Creating LOVs with "Desktop Integration Manager" in EBS 12.1.x

After some struggling getting the "Desktop Integration Manager" to work (due to some obscure hard-coded security checks) I was able to create an Upload Integrator. The next step is now to add some LOVs on the upload spreadsheet.
I managed to create a Gender Popup LOV using a table (e.g. FND_LOOKUP_VALUES). Here is how to do that:
Desktop Integration Manager => Manage Components
Navigate to your attribute (your interface column) and click Update. Enter the following:
    Val Type      = Table
    Id          = LOOKUP_CODE
    Meaning     = MEANING
    Desc          = DESCRIPTION
    Val. Entity     = FND_LOOKUP_VALUES
    Where clause     = lookup_type = 'IGW_SUBJECT_TYPE' and enabled_flag = 'Y' and meaning <> 'Unknown or not reported' and sysdate between start_date_active and nvl(end_date_active, hr_general.end_of_time)
    Lov Type      = Pop List
Type your custom Header in the ‘Prompt above’ field if required.
So far so good. However, I am not able to create a simple date picker or a Java validation. Somehow you need to create (or choose) a ‘Component’ with the ‘Manage Components’ function. But exactly how do you set the Component & Attribute up to make this work? For the date picker I chose:
    Validation Type = Java
Component Name = Date Picker for From Date
    LOV Type = Blank
I get a Popup Date Picker in my sheet now, however when I select a date is does not return it to the spreadsheet.
Can someone provide some screenshots how to create a date picker and/or a Java validation using seeded or custom Components?
I have read the documentation in the Desktop Integration Framework Developer's Guide Release 12.1 (December 2009) but that didn’t get me much further as there are no examples at all.
    Thx
    Jeroen

Hi, with 'hard coded security check' I meant that some parts of the "Desktop Integration Manager" only work if you have responsibility "Application Developer" attached to your User.
You can change a 'seeded' integrator with:
    update BNE_INTEGRATORS_B
    set
    created_by = <your user id>
    ,last_updated_by = <your user id>
    ,display_flag = 'Y'
    ,source = 'C'
    where integrator_code = <your code>

  • II never use tabs at a desktop. Tabs in desktop Firefox are obstructive. Can they be eliminated, ever.

II never use tabs at a desktop. Tabs in desktop Firefox are obstructive. Can they be eliminated? ever?
There seems to be a jackboot coercion to eliminate a multi-window view in Firefox to the point where, in the current iteration, there is a permanent single space wasting tab in the header.
Like many I have many programs open, spreadsheets, text and graphic editors, sometimes 2 or more browsers.
ALL are easy to find on the task bar until they are obscured by tabs.
I followed the gravitational pull toward tabs for mobile use.
    There they can be justified.
They are counterproductive in desktop usage.
Even the developers tab-killers have been eliminated.
Do we all have to accept tabs like GMOs and fluoride?
Is there a hope for a full desktop view in Firefox?

    @Tony98
You will observe that this is a question for developers.
I am familiar with far more alternatives than you could suggest.
This question is for Firefox developers please.
For you less experienced home users with just one PC I will explain again.
There is a client base that prefers windows to tabs for business reasons, regardless of OS, and purely for ergonomics.
With several programs open, spreadsheets, graphic displays, sometimes 2 or more browsers, ALL are easy to find on the task bar until they are obscured by a browser with tabs open in one stack.
I see tabs as a current fad, useful for small screens on low res phones.
Tabs in apps on mobile devices is just fine.
There we use a finger or stylus.
On desktops, we use a mouse.
Current smartphones and tablets, have comparable resolution and utility to desktops.
They just lack power. That will change.
    Firefox is the preeminent browser.
It is a mainstay of Linux and Linux appliances.
To push it toward "tabs only" as if just for phones is a mistake.
When MS Windows 8 is used in business it is used always in desktop mode, and with a mouse, not panes.
That's why business rejected it when released.
When the mouse disappears, tabs may become useful on desktops.
For now the mouse is here to stay, and so should the windowed browser.
As much as I dislike Internet Explorer, it has a simple "no tabs" option.
    So should Firefox.

  • System Pref "Desktop" doesnt work

    Hey guys,
In my desktop prefs where i change my desktop wallpaper, everytime i add a new folder to select pictures from, they always add as "aperture projects" and it loads my aperture library. How can i reset this and use an actual folder???

    LMBvideo wrote:
Ok, I did that but i was only able to find 2 of them.
    com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist
    com.apple.desktop.plist
I moved those like you said, did a restart, but am still having the same problem. Could aperture be to blame?? I saw an aperture preference file but didnt do anything with it. What else could i try?? thanks a ton too.
It could be the aperture pref file. Dragging it to the desktop simply forces the system to create a new, default one, so the worst thing is you have to reset your preferences again.
That might be the one, or it could be some other obscure .plist.
It might even be the plist for Finder itself.
If you want, you can experiment and drag them, one at a time to the desktop and reboot.
As noted, no guarantee, but I am sure it's one of these .plists.
Maybe someone here knows which one or has a good idea of which ones.
After rebooting, if the problem is fixed or not, if everything else is normal, you can safely trash the .plist files on your desktop.

  • Full screen video obscure Motion windows

Part way through creating a composition I find the video window filling the screen and no access to browser inspector etc. I can go to the edge of frame to get me back to desktop which allows me to see these other windows but soon as I touch them the full screen obscures everything. I can move them around by holding the command button but I need another limb then to do my work. I have restarted but it has made no difference.
I have likely hit some key combination but am am lost to continue my project.
