EPS File and FCP/Motion

Ladies/Gentlemen, I have my Logo in a EPS Format and I am trying to keep the Transperancy. I tried exporting out of Photoshop and Illustrater as a Tiff file with no success. I also tried Jpeg , but ofcourse I get a white background. Can anyone let me know how to prep or convert an EPS file to work in FCP and Motion.

When saving a TIFF out of Photoshop, the second save dialog box offers the options for transparency, however this is based on that your logo is on a transparent background, not a white background.

    Hello, Can anyone tell me how to prep a EPS file for use in Motion and FCP. Ive tried with no success expoting from Photoshop and Illutrater. (Tiff and Jpeg)

    I just played around a bit, and had actually really good results just importing files as .ai Illustrator files, not even EPS.
    Otherwise the PDF as mentioned by Specialcase works as well.
    An alternative I also thought of: you could import the eps into Photoshop and save out a large PNG file with transparency.
    PNGs usually work great for what I need, but they of course do not have the flexibility of PDFs or AI files.

  • EPS files and Printing

    Hi Folks:
    Is display PostScript still part of OSX? If so, should I be able to print an EPS graphic on my HP printer without and PS software add ons, etc., i.e. the printer installed right out of the box, using the standard HP install sw, etc.?
    I guess I'm confused about Quartz and Display PS, and how they work together, and how they effect non-postscript printing.
    Thanks much!

    Hi
    May I join in this discussion? I too am looking for a clear answer to this.
    I shall write what I truly understood.
    Quartz is the engine behind what you see on the screen and, I believe too, the many wonders to the printers output. Quartz incorporated an engine that understand Postscript and its cousin, PDF. It therefore can read /write PDF, and possibly print .eps files to non-Postscript printers too..
    Usually, to print a Postscript file (.eps or type 1 fonts) one need a Postscript or Postscript emulation printer to print. Otherwise they may need to install a Postscript like Ghostscript to translate it. But with OS X, it seems to overcome it.
    I had tried printing some .eps files converted from .AI to .eps via Adobe Illustrator. However, what I observed is interesting. I tried importing .eps file into various programs and print. Some programs print much cleaner, better, finer shades. I print to the HP LaserJet 2300.
    On further research, it seems that those newer programs that takes advantage of OS X technologies, it prints well.
    I did all these because I am looking for a printer that is well supported on my OS X platform. To buy a Postscript printer will add another few hundred dollars (Singapore).
    I have yet to understand how reliable it would be for me to print .ps, .eps files to non-Postscript printers from OS X. What kind of laser printers are support? Do I need a printer with its own printer language? OR will a GDI printer be good enough? Since I am printing to B/W or grayscale (no color), is it compatible enough?

  • Version 5 on Mac won't save .eps files and won't add them to the applications list

    I am trying to download .eps files on a Mac Firefox version 5 and i get an error message. i want to get Firefox to add that type to the application list but it won't do it. Messed up pref or ?

  • Newbie bought .eps files and is now busted!

    I downloaded .eps files with a lot of little pictures for my elearning projects for kids with reading problems, from a stock site, because I was told to just put them in Illustrator and be I'd be able to cut them apart and give each an alpha background, easy peasy.
    But being an idiot, I can't even figure out a way to begin. I definitely suspect it isn't nearly that easy! If possible at all...
    Is there any hope for using these files? I tried to put one on my site to show you, but Wordpress won't take it. I'll include a screenshot here.
    Thanks for ANY advice. Like I said, idiot newbie! New to CC and clueless. I have so many tutorials to take it will be years before I can figure out this stuff!

    I haven't been able to "select" a picture yet.
    What happens when you try?
    I suspect your .eps graphics are encased in a clipping mask. If, when you attempt to select one of the graphics, it puts one big selection box around everything, leave it selected and choose Object > Clipping Mask > Release.
    I'd like to use each as a transparent background pic (png is fine) for Captivate 8 elearning.
    Having no first-hand experience with Captivate, I tried to find definitive information about the import file types supported, and although it's not entirely clear, it doesn't look like native Illustrator content is recognized. From one list of supported file types I found, I'd say the best format for you to export from Illustrator for import to Captivate is .swf. (Flash asset).

  • Mac Pro and FCP/Motion Crashing

    Hi,
    My new Mac Pro is fast BUT crashes a lot. It crashed during a render and also in complicated motion projects. I am wondering if I should upgrade my RAM or add another graphics card to fix this -- I cannot do both at this time. My old computer never crashed (G4). I finally went to one monitor and that help a bit but I still had crashes. I have 2 GB of RAM and RadeonX1900 graphic card.
    It works just fine on all other programs.

    What format are you editing?
    4x3 NSTC
    How many drives in the machine and how much free space on each one?
    One internal drive 108 GB left. One external G-raid 12 GB left.
    Where is the media stored?
    Scratch disks on on the G-raid hard drive and render files etc are on internal drive, still photos and motion files on main drive.
    Is the RAM from Apple and is it all the same size (i.e. all 512mb modules)?
    All the RAM came from Apple and Apple installed it. It is all 512 MB
    Any 3rd party filters applied?
    Yes, a few of the clips have Nattress filters. I have the 24P turned off. This takes a long time to render on the old machine too.
    Does it crash on a particular project or using a particular effect?
    Motion crashes the most with projects that have many layers and using the particle generator. This motion project my old G4 could never handle.
    Does it crash at the same place on a timeline or randomly? Randomly.
    Have you deleted your FCP preferences using FCP Attic or Rescue?
    I can do this but does not solve my motion crashes.
    so on and so forth ...
    again, it did seem to help when I went to one monitor. I am using 2 View Sonic 19 inch monitors.
    I am still under my 30 Apple help and I am worried if others have the same set-up and no crashes.

  • Can you put Pinnacle Studio Files and FCP files on an IDVD project?

    Just wondering...we have some old footage that I would like to put into an iDVD project...has anyone ever done this before? I was going to try tonight.....
    Thanks!
    Aubry

    Hi Aubry
    FCP - just export out as a full quality QuickTime .mov file. Import into iDVD.
    Pinnacle - don't know - iDVD just uses QT.mov files.

  • Image Processor Pro and Picture Processor load eps files without rasterizing them

    Hi. My name is Lucas. Im from Argentina, now living in Brazil. I have the problem that is in the title. Im new doing this stuff but reading a lot i discovered that both scripts open eps files and because they dont get reasterized, then saved files looks preety bad.
    I know that there are some parameters to open eps, ex:
    var epsOpenOptions = new EPSOpenOptions();
       epsOpenOptions.antiAlias = true;
       epsOpenOptions.mode = OpenDocumentMode.RGB;
       epsOpenOptions.resolution = 72;
       epsOpenOptions.constrainProportions = true;
    I have to say that looking for a solution a found a script and modified to suit partially my needs. I said partially because i need the script to look folders and save output files with same structure. Here is the script that manage one folder at a time:
    #target photoshop
    // Asks user for input folder
    var inputFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Select a folder to process");
    // Asks user for output folder
    var OutputFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Select a folder to save your Tiffs");
    if ( inputFolder != null && OutputFolder  != null ) {
       // Makes list of all files located in that folder
       var fileList = inputFolder.getFiles( "*.eps" );
       // Create a EPS option object [height & width are doc size]
       var epsOpenOptions = new EPSOpenOptions();
       epsOpenOptions.antiAlias = true;
       epsOpenOptions.mode = OpenDocumentMode.RGB;
       epsOpenOptions.resolution = 72;
       epsOpenOptions.constrainProportions = true;
       // Open each file in turn
       for (var i = 0; i < fileList.length; i++) {
          // open the file
          app.open( fileList[i], epsOpenOptions );
          var baseName = activeDocument.name.slice( 0,-4 );
          // put your code to 'save as' the file here
          var saveFile = new File ( OutputFolder + "/" + baseName + ".jpg" );
       SaveForWeb(saveFile,60); // set quality to suit
    function SaveForWeb(saveFile,jpegQuality) {
      var sfwOptions = new ExportOptionsSaveForWeb();
      sfwOptions.format = SaveDocumentType.JPEG;
      sfwOptions.includeProfile = false;
      sfwOptions.interlaced = 0;
      sfwOptions.optimized = true;
      sfwOptions.quality = jpegQuality;
    activeDocument.exportDocument(saveFile, ExportType.SAVEFORWEB, sfwOptions);
    activeDocument.close( SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES );
    So, if you know some way modify image processor pro or picture processor i will be very pleased.
    Because i will only use the script to manage eps files and save them as jpg (save for web) i dont need an special button to activate that option. Keep it simple. Thanx!!

    You can tweak ImageProcessorPro.jsx by make the following edit.
    Search for code that looks like this:
    ImageProcessor.prototype.openDocument = function(file) {
      var self = this;
      var settings = self.settings;
      var mode = DialogModes.NO;
      var ext = file.strf("%e").toLowerCase();
      var isRaw = ImageProcessor.CAMERA_RAW_FILES.contains(ext);
      if (isRaw) {
    and insert this code right after it:
      if (ext == "eps") {
        var epsOpenOptions = new EPSOpenOptions();
        epsOpenOptions.antiAlias = true;
        epsOpenOptions.mode = OpenDocumentMode.RGB;
        epsOpenOptions.resolution = 72;
        epsOpenOptions.constrainProportions = true;
        try {
          var doc = app.open(file, epsOpenOptions);
        } catch (e) {
          Error.runtimeError(9002, ZStrings.UnableToOpenErr);
        return doc;
    I haven't tested this at all but it looks good from here.

  • Open and Resize EPS File

    Hy Memebrs
    i'm new in this forum and i have a question about the EPS file.
    I search via google how to open EPS in Photo.. Elements 12, becuase I got allways a Error Message. I found a really good Tutorial, about this problem and  did it step by step:
    open as... choose picture(eps)... chose OPEN AS -TIFF...
    Now I can edit the picture.
    I resize the picture to more than 10000px. After this work the picture looked like ... unsharp.... I saw the pixel and I thounght that was the side-effect of the resize.
    I was by a friend, who has the photoshop cs6 software(Stundent...) yesterday. I took the same eps file and opened it in his version. The result is unthinkable...
    The picture looked very great. I didn't see andy pixel. It looked sharp. Whats the reason for this difference?
    I could resize the picture like a skyscraper and it looks alway very great.
    What did i wrong?
    Sorry for my english
    Thank for Help

    You didn't do anything wrong.
    The workaround you used only opens the very low resolution tiff preview of the eps file and it's at most 8 bits or less than 3 bits/channel.
    (a normal eps file is 24 bits or 8 bits/channel)
    Photoshop cs6 opens the real eps file and that's why it looks so much better.
    Adobe removed the ability for photoshop elements 11 and 12 to open eps files.
    Older versions of photoshop elements will open eps files.

  • I just purchased Photoshop Elements 13 and now find it doesn't open .eps files.

    What adobe product does open .eps files and can I "return" Elements 13?

  • Did Illustrator change how EPS files are dealt with between CS2 and CS3?

    Here's an odd question for you. I have an EPS file that opens fine when I use Illustrator CS2. However, when I try to open the same file in Illustrator CS3, 4, and 5, the colors come in wrong. I don't mean color slightly off wrong, The colors are changed to something completely unrelated and scrambled. To make things more confusing, everytime the view changes, the color and  patterns change as well. This makes me think that it is something with  how Illustrator is interpreting the EPS file. If I try to open the file  in Photoshop or Distiller, the file comes out looking normal. Any  suggestions? Thanks for your input!
    ~Mike

    I do Graphics/Production work for an archaeological firm. Before I started working here, they decided that of the different export options from our GIS department, EPS was the format that gave us the least problems and the highest quality. This was decided when we were using Illustrator 10. Now we're making the shift from CS2 and 3 to CS5 (getting our department on the same version), we are running into this problem with the EPS files and I am trying to find a solution to make all of our lives easier. One of the other options that we are kicking around is ditching the EPS file format all together and shifting to using a high quality PDF instead. Could this cause any loss of quality?

  • SMB and EPS Files (all files have .eps extensions)

    HI All,
    We've turned off Appleshare on our Microsoft SBS Server and have all our mac clients connecting via SMB - previews of folders within apps is now much much faster and we can now have longer file names.
    However, all of our eps images are screwed. They all have file extensions but Illustrator cannot import them or re-link them. If we open them in Photoshop and re-save them, then Illustrator can link to them.
    But we have thousands of eps images and using a batch process action is painful as Photoshop can't determine the difference between a vector eps and a photoshop eps before it opens them (as far as we can tell) - so we have to manually choose which eps files to open.
    It would be easier and safer if we could just fix whatever is wrong with the server - does anyone have any suggestions?
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers

    "It would be easier and safer if we could just fix whatever is wrong with the server - does anyone have any suggestions?"
    Um, turn Appleshare back on.
    No, seriously, though, it's this Microsoft "Services For Macintosh" (aka Appleshare) feature that allows your Macs to connect to the server and "see" the files on it properly. Let's take an .eps file as an example. On the Mac, the single file contains a resource fork-based preview icon, the data fork holding the EPS data, a file type of 'EPSF' (EPS file), and a creator code of 'ART5' (Adobe Illustrator). Ordinarily, a PC-formatted disk only has room for, and understands, the data fork information and the filename; the rest would be lost if it wasn't dealt with in some way. The way Microsoft's "Services For Macintosh" deals with it then, is that, when a Mac writes a file to the server over the network, what would be a single Mac file, is split up into 4 separate NTFS "streams". One stream is the main one, which contains the data fork information and filename. The other three hold the small amount of special "Mac" information.
    Now, if you have the server up and running as SMB, and the Mac connects to the server as SMB, you will only see one of the parts/streams of the original file. The special Mac information that's saved in the other 3 streams isn't combined with the primary stream to make the file "appear" properly, like it does when you have Microsoft "Services For Macintosh" running and connect the Macs to the server over AFP.
    I can gather that performance with the Microsoft "Services For Macintosh" is relatively poor compared to that of SMB. If you'd like to switch over to SMB, you can carefully follow the following procedure to make the switch over.
    Let's say your sever has 40 GB of files on it. At the moment, if you connect your Mac to the server over SMB, the files appear improperly. So, instead, find a Mac with a lot of free space on the local hard drive, and connect to the server over AFP (and have the server running AppleShare/Services For Macintosh), so that the files "appear" properly. From the Mac, copy all of the 40 GB worth of files over to the Mac's local hard drive. Then disconnect the Mac from the server. Adjust the server so that it is no longer running AppleShare/Services For Macintosh, and from the same Mac, connect to the server over SMB. Again, if you look at the original files on the server, they will appear improper; this is normal. From the Mac, create a new folder on the server, separate from the original folder holding the original 40 GB worth of files. Name it something like "Server Files (SMB)". Then, from the Mac, copy the 40 GB worth of files that you saved to the local hard drive into that "Server Files (SMB)" folder on the server. After you've finished copying them and you look at them from this Mac, you'll notice that these files should appear "correctly".
    Now, if you continue to have the AppleShare/Services For Macintosh shut off, and you connect other Macs to the server (via SMB), they should be able to see the files in the "Server Files (SMB)" folder correctly. Basically, you would no longer use the original 40 GB of files, and instead, use the ones inside the "Server Files (SMB)" folder, which will appear properly to the connected Macs.
    Hope this helps....

  • How to create a eps file from illustrator?

    I am new to illustrator and new to creating logos for print, I usually only do it for the web.  I am creating a logo for my team so that it can be printed onto a jacket.  I created an all white logo because the jacket is black.  I was asked to send an eps file.  I created the logo in illustrator and saved it as an eps file and as a pdf file thinking the printer could use the pdf for viewing.  When I open the pdf file, the only thing that's there is a soccer ball, my text and a few other things are missing.  When I open the saved eps file, the same thing, I have to go to select all to see all my other stuff in the eps file.  How do I save my file as eps and know that it's attaching everything I have within the illustrator file and how can I view the logo as a pdf?  Any help you can give would be greatly appeciated, thanks so much!

    How did you similate the black color?
    Since Illustrator does not have a background, you must create one with the rectangle tool, drag out a rectangle the size of the document and then move it to the back. That rectangle can then be filled with black.
    Also look in your layers panel and see what you have for objects. You can select them there and move them up or down to bring them forward or backward on the document. It can also make it easier to select when the object is below others.
