EPS file placed within INDD art shows crop marks when exported to PDF

Hi Friends -
I have a INDD art file I'm working on, within which I placed an EPS image.  Upon exporting the INDD art to PDF, the document has what appear to be crop marks surrounding the EPS image.  This is not where the image should be cut, and these marks are being shown in a functional part of the design.  Here is a screenshot of one corner of the EPS; the other 3 corners have identical marks:
Additional information:
- MS Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
- InDesign CS5.5  Version 7.5.3
- Marks are generated during export process/conversion to PDF; they are not visible in InDesign.
- EPS file does not create these crop marks when placed into another INDD file and exported using the same process as above.
- No other elements of the INDD file have similar marks displayed after export.
Any help with where I might find the setting in INDD to turn this OFF would be greatly appreciated!
D

That was probably the most expeditious reply I've ever received in a forum.
Anyhow, the crop marks are not part of the actual EPS image.  Opening the EPS file in PS or AI reveals no stray crop marks so, unless the marks are somehow part of the EPS settings rather than a visible element of the image, I think it has something to do with INDD and its settings.  To confirm, I did place this EPS in another INDD document and an export procedure utilizing the same steps does not reproduce the crop marks.

  • How to keep crop marks when saving as PDF

In Illustrator CS5, I have some artwork which has 3mm bleeds all around.  The printing shop requires me to provide the artwork with the bleed and also the crop marks showing as well in PDF format.  But whenever I save as PDF, Illustrator doesn't show the crop marks I have made.  I've tried selecting print trim marks in the save as dialog boxes, but this only puts marks right at the edges, after the bleed areas, making the trimming marks incorrectly placed.  I'm pulling my hair out!!  Please can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Joe

That didn't work for me.  In fact, the only way I could get it correctly was to enlarge my artwork to extend over the artboard and then when saving as PDF to tick the printer trim marks boxes.  Not as easy or straightforward as with a crop mark, but it seems to be working now.
Thanks anyway for all your input!

  • Indesign crashes when exporting to pdf with .eps and .ai files placed

    Hi everyone,
I have an Indesign file with 4 placed Illustrator .eps file placed. Whenever I try to export to pdf, it starts to export and then when it reaches a page with a .eps file on it, it hovers for a minute and then Indesign crashes. I decided to save these 4 .eps files as .ai files and replace them. Now when I export to pdf, it gets through the export and a pdf file is created but immediately after, Indesign crashes.
Is this a sign of corrupt .eps or .ai files or a corrupt Indesign file? All I know is that if I remove all the image files, then the ID file is fine, ie. it exports and ID doesn't crash.
Is there a way to test either .eps, .ai or Indesign files for corruption, and if they are corrupt is it possible to repair them?
    Appreciate any help offered.

You haven't said which version of Indesign you are using or other specs, but I would bet that you are using CS2 on an Intel Mac. CS2 runs under Rosetta on an Intel Mac, and I have found that memory problems are often the result of crashes like the ones you have described. My advice is to stay away from EPS files and use AI or PSD, especially if the file is a bitmap or photo. This has eliminated all the crashes that used to occur on my system. As far as the crashes after making PDF files, I don't have a solution other than restarting Indesign after exporting a PDF file or two at a time. The same Rosetta memory problem seems to mess it up for me. Mine would just exit from Indesign with no warning. Hope this helps.

  • Objects missing when exporting to PDF, but show up when printing to PDF

Hi - I'm working with someone, both of us in InDesign CS4, and she has some documents that cause a few random objects to just go missing when exported to PDF (same on my computer). But when printing to PDF, they show up fine. They also show up fine if we recreate each individual object, but that can end up being a lot of work. She prefers to export to PDF because of quality. I'm drawing a blank on this one!
The attached file shows the issue. The green blocks just don't want to show up when exporting.

    Peter -
The links are just the PDFs of the black and white portions and don't really matter too much since they show up fine when exporting or printing to PDF. Our main concern is the green blocks, which are indeed the green areas of the plan you pointed out. They are actually separate objects created directly within InDesign that can be moved and adjusted.
I just updated to 6.0.4 and that didn't help. I wonder if this may be a variant of the bugs I was reading about with master pages and certain things not showing up when creating PDFs or printing (even though none of these things are on the master page)?
    Thanks

  • When exporting to PDF, the pictures are not the same size I "placed" them

I am "placing" pics that are 653 x 983 pixels, 300 DPI, using CS4.  However, my issue is when exporting to PDF, the PDF doesn't look like the same size I "placed" the pic until I blow it up to about 350%.  I do not have a printer set up to my computer so I can't do the print/pdf option.  Am I doing something wrong here?  I can't figure it out.  Your help is appreciated.  Thanks!

Well, right when I open the PDF, it's just way too small, imagine it being the size of a business card.  I have to keep zooming in until it gets to the size I originally intended it to be.  When I create a new document am I suppose to make it the same size as the picture?

  • CS3 EPS files placed in Quark don't print????

    Hello -
Been fighting some issues on CS3 over the last few months. It seems that I have a problem with placing EPS files from CS3 into Quark and successfully getting a printout. My Specs:
    Mac 10.5.6, G4, 1GB RAM, Illustrator CS3 (13.0.2), Quark 7.5, HP Color Laserjet 4500.
Now, if I go to print a document with "Tiled" output from Quark, I can only have 1 CS3 EPS placed in the file, anything over 1 results in a Tile for the first page, but no second "Tile" when I should get two.
If I step and repeat a picture box with the same EPS 2 or more times, and it fits on one page, I get no output (the job spins up on the printer then quietly dies).
Now before you jump on Quark, I will say that AI CS2 files do NOT exhibit this behavior, it ONLY seems to apply to AI CS3 files.
If I use PDF over EPS, there is no problem. But I have years of legacy document that I do NOT want to have to create PDF's of my EPS files.
Anyone got some insight on this? Thanks!

    >But I have years of legacy document
If these art not CS 3 files then you are ok correct?
The only problem you say is with CS3 is that correct?
Save them back to CS2 as a copy, or upgrade to cS 4 perhaps but I do not know if that would fix the problem. The other thing I can think of that might be an issue is that at one time Quark needed to have Illustrator CS 3 EPS file saved with a tiff preview. Perhaps the type of preview is the cause of this problem.
Try changing the preview in the EPS Options.
Those are my thoughts on this I hope something in it will be helpful.

  • Cannot export file as .jpg if it has crop marks

Ok, so I'm trying to export a file to .jpg in Adobe Illustrator CS2 and it works until I put in Crop Marks.  Once they are in, when it tries to save it, I get a message, "The file cannot be written due to an error".  Does anyone have any ideas?  I've tried multiple locations and there is plenty of room where I am trying to save it to.

    Meankty,
In CS2 you should be using Crop Area, not Crop Marks.
What happens if you set the Artboard corresponding to the Crop Marks and then try exporting?

  • Art is mysteriously disappearing or moving to undesirable location when exporting to PDF

I'm on ID CS5 on an iMac, OS 10.6.4
I'm working on a book cover series. I started it last fall in ID CS3, front front covers and spines (for marketing files). Now, with the InDesign multiple page size feature, I thought this would be the perfect project to try it for the first time. I started a new document with a Master page for the back cover, another for the front cover, and 3 versions of spines with slightly different widths. Each spread consists of 3 pages.
    2 weird things are happening.
One. When I export a PDF (either press res or a low res) the logo on the back cover disappears from the PDF on pages 1 and 2, but is present on pages 3, 4, 5. (The PDF pages represent the spreads for a 5-volume set). It is on the master page and has not been altered or released on any of the pages, yet views differently.
After trying different things, I did finally get it to appear, but it appears half cut off on the bottom of the front cover on pages 1 and 2. Not at all the place I need it to be.
    So strange.
The second thing is that I was making some minute adjustments to the placement of a box on front cover master, and all of a sudden, it shows up centered on the whole spread  on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th layout spreads. I mean it is far off from the small move I made on the master.
The art is so jumpy you'd think it was on speed.
    Help? Advice?
    TIA,
    Anne

Well, I fixed it. Not sure what did the trick, but since it has to go to the printer in the a.m., I'm just happy it works now.
I recreated the graphic (logo) in Illustrator and imported it as EPS. Previously I just copied and pasted between documents because the logo is just outlines/shapes. Then I placed it on the back cover master and exported as highest version of PDF. And everything is where it's supposed to be.
But that other wacko jumpy behavior persists.

  • Crop mark on image when exporting to PDF

When I export my INDD file to PDF, crop marks appear on one of the images (an EPS file) in the converted document. The crop marks do not appear in the INDD file, nor are they part of the original EPS file. Any idea what's happening and how to get rid of it?

Screen shots would help here, but the first thing I would try is replace the EPS file with a native file format, either .al for vector or .psd for raster, or PDF for mixed content.

  • Bug: Can't view photos in a slide when Exporting to PDF viewing files on XP

    Hi,
I'm completely new to the discussion forum.
So hope this hasn't been covered, but the bug is there none the less.
When Exporting a Keynote 09 slide or slides that use some of the
new Layout themes(Kyoto style etc), nothing shows up when the
PDF is opened on Windows XP machines.
I have tried it on several machines at work and at schools,
and cant get photos or text to show up.
This never happened in 08, as i often have to use PDF to do presentations
at schools that dont have powerpoint no their pcs. PDF exporting
is really important in my daily work with keynote.
I really hope there is a fix or that Apple can release a fix
for this bug, as I would love to use the new layout themes
    in presenting.
Strangely older themes have no problem opening and show all text and
photos as they should when exported using keynote 09 to pdf...
so i assume its an issue with the newer themes only ;(
    wierd.. (cries)
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me here. Apple!!! I luv you
but this issue is annoying the heck out of me.
    D

Wow, thank you so much for quick replies!
Ok ill try and explain more.
    1) I used to the Export feature (now I used SHARE > Export > choose PDF > save to desktop... view it.. its all good)
    2) I then save the file onto a flash drive and put in a XP OS run PC
    3) The slide background only shows up.. i.e. no content just the template itself
    4) This only happens to the newer templates.
    5) This happens when dragging a picture into the preset template picture boxes,
the picture just doesnt show up on the pc
    6) havent checked file sizes, because i could do this process on keynote 08.. so i assumed its a BUG and not the fault of mine
    7) Most importantly, i can do the same process and it works with the keynote 08
backgrounds and themes within 09.. but i cant get my PDFs on an XP to show when using the newer themes... just shows blank themes.. even for Kyoto theme, the tea pot picture isnt there.. its just the background
i am thinking of taking my mac into a mac store,
but im almost certain this is a bug.
to view the PDF on both my macbook and on XP i just double click
whats on the desktop and it usually shows.. but since buying 09,
as i said before, i can only get this to work for slides that use
    the old 2008 keynote templates ;( ;(
i have not tried exporting using the print feature.. i will give that a shot today. but its so wierd that it shows up for some templates and not for others.
thanks again for your kind help. i really appreciate the time and effort
you are all putting in in helping.

  • Crop Marks/Preparing to Print - PDF

    Hello,
I have created a 250 page book in indesign.  When I select "Package for Print", printers marks are not set.  If I try just printing the book, I see where I can opt to print with printers marks, but they don't save on the file.  When I go back to Package for print, they're not showing.
How can I create a PDF of the entire book that I can upload to a printing website (going to use Mimeo.com) WITH crop marks shown on that file?  Mimeo only accepts PDF files.
I have CS5 on a Mac.  Please be specific as to what instructions you give, as I'm new to this.  Thanks!
    Please help!!   THanks!

    Hi Bob,
Yes, its a book... well actually a planner...
I have CS5 (on a Mac).  Can you give me specific instructions as to
where I'd find that?  Any of the ways that I go to export a PDF, I
don't see those options available.  Thanks!

  • Building linkable navigation within an indesign document when exporting to pdf

I'm working in InDesign CS3 and wondering if there is a way to create a linkable navigation in the program when exporting it to pdf. Also, how, if its possible, do I build an html file out of an InDesign document or exported from ID as a pdf?

ID CS3 has an export to crossmedia xml for DreamWeaver option, but you need to edit the result in a html editor like DreamWeaver to clean it up and get a better result. You will never be able to get a page in html that looks exactly the same as in ID though unless you provide a pdf-page for download. You also do not have control of how a pdf on the web is shown for the user in his/her browser as that setting for that is done by the user, not by the page. Some show it on the page, others have pdfs for download (like me).
