Eps files 20 minutes for saving

I've bought a new Windows Workstation in order to use my Adobe Illustrator CC.
All works fine, i've only this sad problem, my eps files that I worked with my old Windows Workstation (WindowsXP) are very very slow in saving, about 20 min, the program is in NO RESPONSE during the operation.
This problem appear only with certain files not all.
These are the spec of my new configuration :
Fujitsu Celsius M740N
Intel Xeon E5-1620 3.5ghz
32gb ram  1600mhz
Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit
Nvidia Quadro K.2200 / Driver version 9.18.13.4752 05/02/2015
Illustrator CC version 18.1.1 64 bit
What can i do to solve, in this way for me the program is useless .

I save as dialog uncheck use art boards option and you get this in photoshop
from this in illustrator

  • Position of eps-files in anchored frame

Hello, I'm sorry but the subject was too large to put it in the subject-field.
    Subject:
position of eps-files (Mac Os 9, Illustrator 9.0, preview tiff black/white)
is not correct after saving eps-files (preview macintosh black/white)
I want to upgrade from Apple Mac 9.0 to PC. All my Framemaker-files (6.0)
must be translated to Framemaker 8.0 (PC-version).
When I open the old Framemaker files, there is only a problem with the
graphics (read: the preview of the graphics in Framemaker 8.0). The result
is: grey boxes in the anchored frames. I thought when I save the old
eps-files (Illustrator 9 for Mac, preview Macintosh Black+white) to
eps-files with TIFF preview, that the problem will be solved. When I open
the framemaker-files on PC, then there are a few graphics correct
(Framemaker displays all the graphics correct on pc). But, there are a lot
of graphics in anchored frames who lost their right coordinates in the
anchored frame (example: the x-position of a graphic is -25 cm en the
y-position of a graphic is 7.9 cm). Result: I cannot see a graphic in the
anchored frame because the coordinates were changed and because their are
outside the frame (their are in the frame, but the graphic is outside the
    border of the anchored frame).
When I use the old eps-files then the position is correct, but there is no
preview available of the graphic in Framemaker 8 (in Framemaker 6.0 for
Mac, there is a preview of the graphic).
Are there people who has this problem too in the past? Who can give me
suggestions to solve this problem or give me other tips to solve this
    problem.

    Hi Jesse
I'm afraid we probably can't help much. I asked our guy and he said:
I thought that issue had more to do with upgrading Adobe Illustrator. When you save an EPS it includes a BoundingBox comment that defines the area of the page that the figure occupies in the artwork:
    %%BoundingBox: LLx LLy URx URy
LLx and LLy are the coordinates of the lower left corner of the figure. URx and URy are the coordinates of the upper right corner of the figure.
When FrameMaker imports an EPS it reads the BoundingBox comment to get the size and position of the figure on the page, and therefore to compute the translation and scaling required in the PostScript output to put the figure where you want it.
The impression I got was that when you updated the EPS figure FrameMaker didn't always refresh the BoundingBox info.
The later version of Illustrator seemed to save files with a different BoundingBox. As a result there was a mis-match between the actual BoundingBox and what FrameMaker recorded.
The solution for us was to simply re-import the figure. I never wrote a script to solve that problem.

  • Issues when opening EPS files

    Hi
I'm encountering a problem when opening a EPS file in Illustrator for editing
when I open the file and ungroup the object the stokes are all messed up and broken.
As an example the light colour in the image below is what one of my lines looks like when imported
if anyone knows how I might be able to stop this from happening when I open the file I would be very gratefull
    thanks

Depending on where the file originated, this could be perfectly normal. Might be expanded strokes that break apart or something similar... anyway, impossible to know without more details or the file itself...

  • Why is my eps file a faded colour in PS compared to my website?

    Hi
I'm new to Photoshop, so please go easy.
I have a company logo on disk in eps format.  It's been used on my website and business cards.  I can open the eps file in Word and it's one shade of green, then I compare it to my site and that another.
When I open the eps file in Photoshop, it's yet another shade but this time really washed out.
Anyone know why?  I'm happy to send the eps file to anyone for them to help check.
All I want is the web coloured version in a bigger jpg format so I can use in Word docs; copying from the website and enlarging results in too blurry a view.
    Thanks
    Arjay..

Curt Y has the root of your problem correctly. To accomplish what you want without opening the color management can of worms, try this:
Open the EPS file in Photoshop. In the Rasterize EPS Format dialog, set the size and resolution you want, then set the Mode to RGB Color. This won't change the way the colors look, but if the EPS is a CMYK file, (and I suspect it is, which would explain why it looks unsaturated on your screen), it will save a step.
Now, open the JPEG version of the logo that's on the web site, (save it from the site if you don't already have a local copy).
With both images open, target the EPS and choose Image > Adjustments > Replace Color.
In a straightforward way, the Replace Color dialog will allow you to sample colors in the EPS and replace them with their more saturated couterparts from the JPEG. If you need instructions, see here.
Save As... (don't overwrite the EPS).

  • PS CS5 not saving preview for EPS files

I'm running a trial version of CS5 Design Premium on a brand new Core i5 iMac with 8GB RAM and running SL 10.6.3. So far, I haven't noticed any major glitches, except for the following:
When I save an image as EPS, I usually choose the standard Mac 8 bit preview. This way, when bringing it into Quark, I can see the image. On my previous iMac, in CS3 and Leopard 10.5.8, this worked fine when importing into Quark 7.5.
Now, however, when importing into Quark 8.1.6, the EPS does NOT show a preview. It even indicates that no preview is included in the "Import Picture" window before bringing it in, even though I can see the "preview" in the little preview window. All I get in Quark is a gray box with the filename written inside. This is a bit bizarre!
Then I thought, maybe it's a Quark issue. I tried importing the same EPS file into my old iMac using Quark 7.5 and it does the same thing - no preview.
What's even more strange is that I took an old EPS which HAS a viewable preview, and resaved it (after a resize), and changed no other settings. The preview no longer shows up in Quark. Boom! Gone! Brand new files behave the same way.
Another thing I tried: I saved it using a TIFF preview. That seemed to work, although the preview looked very low-quality. That might work in a pinch, but it doesn't solve the problem of why my EPS files are not saving previews even though they are supposed to be included with the basic Mac Preview options.
Resaving the EPS as TIF also works fine, but again, doesn't solve the problem.
Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Why do you keep bringing up PICT previews? We have made it clear that we aren't using the standard Macintosh preview. The problem persists when using the Macintosh (JPEG) preview.
Or are you implying that the JPEG preview is actually a PICT preview?
And TIFF and JPEG previews have always differed in how the appear on screen. If they didn't there wouldn't really be any reason for having both, would there? And since they look different in Illustrator and InDesign, can you wander down the hall and ask the guys working on those Adobe products why their code is displaying your code differently than you want it to?
I have no problem with PICT being dead. I'm sure no one else on the forum does either. Your software is the one using it. What I am asking is that you help us with a REAL solution rather than debating it with us. We all have plenty of experience in what we do. I've been using Photoshop since version 1, and I'm sure many of the others weighing in here have too. We know what has worked in your product in the past, and we know what we need it to continue to do for us now and in the future. If Adobe is going to give us forums to spotlight issues, then Adobe should also listen and act. Eight months of debating the existence of PICT files is a waste of everyone's time. Please just fix the code so that when I choose a JPEG preview I get a JPEG preview that shows up in Illustrator, InDesign, or whatever. If a normal JPEG shows up, then a JPEG preview attached to an EPS file should as well. It's not rocket science. And it's not a PICT. It's a JPEG.
I appreciate your assistance in helping all of us with this frustrating and production draining issue. If I sound a bit frazzled it is because it is 7:30 PM and I should be at home with my family, but my jacked up previews caused me to use one of the suggested workarounds, which turned a job that should have taken 20 minutes into a 3 hour adventure. Now let's multiply that out over the last 8 months... And multiply that by everyone affected. I'm sure that adds up to a lot more lost time than what would be required to fix the bug and issue an update.

  • Re: CS5 not saving preview for EPS files

Has this problem been fixed yet? I just read the original forum that started 18 months ago. Is it that big a problem to put back what workred in CS4 to CS5, I'm getting fed up of re-saving thousends of CS5 EPS files in CS4 to get over this problem.

Why did you post this in the forum for Acrobat Forms?

  • Weird CS4 error when saving eps files on a Mac: "...specified files already exist in the target location"

    Hi There,
All 3 workstations in our studio are experiencing weird file behavior when re-saving eps files from Illustrator.
Basically Illustrator creates a new file in addition to the original and adds a "-01.eps" onto the file name. If you re-save your original, Illustrator brings up a dialogue box that states:
Some of the specified files already exist in the target location. The files marked below will be replaced:
    filename.eps
    filename-01.eps
We've been deleting the "-01.eps" files each time but it's becoming tedious. The behaviour occurs when re-saving an eps file to a server or the desktop.
All machines are new Quad-core MacPros running:
    - Leopard 10.5.8
    - Illustrator CS4 14.0.0
We've checked for Illustrator updates from within Illustrator but we seem to be running the latest version.
Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?
Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

    Thanks for the reply.
The error occurs when we save the document but if we choose save as, "Use Artboards" seems to be unchecked so not sure if this issue is related or not. Will re-save the document using save as then see if the issue persists.
Why do we still use eps?
Basically because we've found it to be much more compatible. Our entire logo library is in eps format (18 years worth) partly because it was previously the only format to use and partly because it allows account managers to send logos to clients, printers, TV stations etc and not involve the studio (saving out an eps version).
Although "Create PDF compatible file" is a good idea, we've encountered costly issues with colours and images - especially if the recipient is using old CS software, non-Adobe software or is using some kind of hardware RIP. We now just go with what we know works.
But I do find saving eps versions of everything to be a bit painful. In fact, I've always found Illustrator in general to be a bit painful when compared with Photoshop or AfterEffects. Illustrator seems like it's been developed by a different company some times!
Cheers, and thanks for the help.

  • Previews not automatically saving in EPS files

    Hi
Just got Illustrator CS5 yesterday and immediately noticed that when saving a new EPS file it doesn't automatically include a preview, you have to choose it. In all past versions i have used this defaulted to 8-bit tiff with transparency.
This would be fine if you did it once and it remembered this for next time but it doesn't. So every time I save an EPS file i have to make this choice. I know it isn't much but if I forget to do it I have to go back and resave the file which is annoying.
Is there a way of making this choice permanent?
    thanks
    David

    Hi, thanks for replying.
You aren't the first person to say this, AI files use the whole artboard as the image size so its like replacing one issue with another.
Its a completely random problem, it happens when creating a whole new EPS file and when saving out a new version of an existing EPS that already has the 8 bit tiff preview attached. Whats worse is, it doesn't always happen, I can't say that the next time I save a file so I can't replicate the problem myself.
its definitely NOT a problem with my system either, the same thing happens with my 2 colleagues macs in here.
As much as I'd like to I don't want to switch to indesign, I've tried a few times and it just doesn't sit right with me, it lets you get away with things that in 15 years I would never do because it would cause issues at the print stage, it makes me uncomfortable when I get files in from other agencies and they're just a mess with all random formats just forced into a document, its lazy.
Anyway, back to topic Adobe's TS reply is frankly laughable and unacceptable, I was hoping I'd get some support form them considering how much we pay for the software in the first place.
    thanks again

  • Cannot place eps file "no filter found for requested operation"

I have two compuers running CS3. One computer can place .eps files into an InDesign document with no problem. The other computer tries to place an .eps file into InDesign and they get "no filter found for requested operation." It is able to place .jpegs, pdfs but not .eps. In the meantime, I opened the .eps in Illustrator and saved it as a .tiff and then placed it into the InDesign document successfully but this is NOT a good solution as I have hundreds of .eps files I need to work with.
How can I get this resolved?

Try deleting preferences as outlined here. You might have to go so far as to reinstall InDesign, but I hope not.
Also, AI is a much better format for placing Illustrator files than TIF or even EPS.

  • Why are equally layouted embedded texts in an eps-file saved differently?

    Hi everyone!
I have a problem with the LaTex package "PSfrag" which is supposed to filter out any specific embedded text of an eps-file in order to re-layout it. Obviously the programm only recognises text-tags in the output eps-file that are formatted like:
    (text-tag1)sh
whereas the other text-tags are followed by further strange information like
    (text-tag2)
    [3.74512 3.74463 0 ]xsh
I've created the eps-files via Adobe Illustrator and I've set all texts the same way only to find that Illustrator has saved some texts in the first and others in the latter way. I would be most happy to know  why that is so and how I could accomplish the )sh-ending throughout the whole eps-file for every text event so that "PSfrag" can work out well. I'd appreciate it if anyone can give help...

I guess it's the old gag of "appearance over structure" which also makes AI's SVG files so unworkable at times... What might be causing those differences is impossible to say without seeing the files, but it would appear you have a custom line height in your non-working example, causing it to be required to be written differently. I'm sure Gernot Hoffman can answer this more specifically...

And then I have to save it manually. Does anyone know why this happens? (It is just a plain photoshop file, a watermark is added, then save as jpeg - the jpeg is saved to a different folder than the original photoshop file.)  It happens for about 10 of 30/40  files approximately . Thank you, Kathryn

  • How do I import an EPS file for a Barcode?

I made a book but want to add a Barcode. The barciode company made one for me in EPS file format. Can I just drag that in? It seems to automatically into a PDF file when I do that, which seems strange??
    Thanks

    .eps is a dead format.
There are 3 useful vector formats now.
.ai (with .pdf preview) for complex vectors with blends.
    .pdf for flat color vector
.svg for the web (unfortunately Apple has lousy support for this).

  • Weird Thumbnail Dimensions for EPS Files in Bridge CS4

Using Preferences> Thumbnails, I have set Bridge CS4 to show "Dimensions" as one of the metadata items. It works correctly for PSD, NEF, and TIF files, but not EPS files. For example, a PSD file may show dimensions of 1006 x 583 pixels. But he same image converted to EPS format shows the dimensions as 207 x 120. Why is this not also showing as 1006 x 583? Is Bridge reading dimensions of the embedded preview image? And, if so, why is it not reading the dimensions of the main image, instead?
    Mike

they remain connected as long as you do your renaming inside of Bridge

  • What are my options for opening EPS files in Elements 13? What is the best way to convert these to another type of vector file?

I "upgraded" from Photoshop Elements... uh... mad old... to Elements 13 when my work computer got "upgraded" to Win8. Now I can't open EPS files which is how I receive collateral from our ad agency. What other vector files will work, and how can I convert EPS to these? Please be gentle if this is a stupid question - I know enough to be dangerous, but I'm not an expert at design by any means. I'm just frustrated because this isn't quite the "dead" file type that Adobe thinks it is. What was the point of upgrading if I'm pretty much left in the lurch?

What's important to understand is that Elements is a 'pixel' editor, not a 'vector' editor. As such, it has very limited 'vector' capacity (fonts, shapes...) What you are missing from older versions is the ability to convert vector items to standard pixel image file. To be able to open and work on eps files, you'd need Adobe Illustrator, which seems overkill for your purpose.
    So, your options are:
    - to request your ad agency to supply pdf format images instead of eps ones. My guess is that eps is beeing largely superseded by pdf, but I am not sure...
    - Use external tools to convert from eps to jpeg; a Google search would return free softwares like Irfanview or web based conversion.
    - You might want to keep (or reinstall) older Elements versions just for that purpose.

    I found a plugin for this: http://www.eternalstorms.at/staff/index.html
It worked for one day, but today I can no longer preview .eps files. Any ideas?

I had a QuickLook folder with the plugin, in two separate folders, the sysytem Library, and the home directory Library.
I removed the QuickLook folder from my home directory, 'HD/users/username/Library/QuickLook', and restarted.
