Eps image slipping when saving

I'm using Illustrator cs4 on 10.5.8. I created a document 96"x36" for a banner. The banner is basically type - outlined. When I save as an .eps file (also happens when exporting as jpeg) the image slips down about 10". I can save as PDF and it's fine. The file size is quite small FYI. Any ideas or known bugs?

Why are you using EPS? There should be no reason to use EPS for your format. Also, for large jobs like this I usually work to scale, even if Illustrator accommodates an artboard that size I find it slow and awkward to work at 100%. I suspect there is a limitation because of EPS’s embedded preview. It was probably never designed to work with an image that large. Use Illustrator .ai or PDF instead.

RAW Images Alter When Saved After Processing in CS5 Camera RAW?

Hi,
I am currently experiencing a problem in Photoshop CS5, where after processing a CR2 RAW image file in Camera RAW, whether I then decide to open the image straight into CS5, or save as a jpeg or tiff file, the image completely alters from what I was previously seeing in the Camera RAW window?
The saved jpeg/tiff, or image now shown in CS5 is now very tinted, where objects that were perfectly white in the Camera RAW window are now a dirty yellow colour.
I was just wondering if there was any advice any of you could give me as to what the problem might be?
I have made sure that both CS5 and the Camera RAW window are both set to sRGB, but it has had no effect on the problem.

Invalid image error when saving to pdf

I keep getting an invalid image error when saving a MS Publisher file as a pdf. Can anyone help with solving this issue?

You need to provide system and version info and explain how you actualyl produce the PDF. Unless you use the Acrobat PDF printer, I don't see how Adobe software would be involved in any of this, as recent versions of MS Office products can save PDFs natively...

Hallo, and thank you for reading this.
I am a person who saves a lot of images online and renames them in different folders in different names like B - 34 or G - 56. I have been working with firefox 10 for quite some time and it had a pretty handy bug (I guess) where I could save an image and firefox would just save the image in it's original type (JPEG,PNG etc) while "save as type" was empty.
It also always has shown all the image types in the folder where I save the images (except for GIF) and that helpes me quite a lot by saving me the trouble of selecting "all files" every time I save or going to the folder to rename every image.
Now this seems to be lacking in the newest firefox versions and my question is if I can set firefox to always show me all the image file types when saving an image, instead of only showing JPEG's when I try to save a JPEG.

I suspect this is a Windows problem. I am surmising the FilePicker uses the Operating System or Desktop facilities. Does Windows 7 offer any other file categories like ''images'' ?

Images Issue when saving an illustrator file as pdf

Hi,
I have been suffering these couple of days with the pdfs I save from my illustrator CS5 multi page file. It is a brochure that I designed using many images that I adjusted in Photoshop to CMYK & 300 dpi & embedded in ai. I used some drop shadows for some images & have some transparent vectors & gradient fills in the pages.
The pdfs I save open very normally on my pc, but the issues appear for the client. He gets some images missing in some pages (the ones that got the gradient transparency). The pages also tend not to load completely & stay blurred. He also got the “drawing error” message.
I tried to make sure all color modes are the same_ used the US web coated SWOP (default)
He still gets missing images!
The same file I sent to a friend of mine, it opened normally! but informed me that Adobe considers the file with “special features”.
I had to export the pages to jepgs so that he gets to see the design.
I tried to flatten the gradient transparent vectors but also used the downsampling for the images when saving the pdf & used the “Zip” for compression to reduce the size… what did he get??? no images at all in all the pages.
I started seeing pdf nighmares last night :S really.

Image darker when saved than on-screen buffered image

Hi,
Here is my little application. I am trying to simulate an rgb screen look based on image data. ie, the new image is an exaggerated tv look of the original image.
When I try to encode/save a jpeg from my buffered image, the saved image is darker (colours also seem to be different) than what i see in my application frame. I like what I see in the JFrame and would like to have that saved. I am just an artist hack so excuse the cobbled together code. I have also included the original image, the image as it is saved, and an image as a rough approximation of the image in the JFrame.
In the code you will see I have tried different ways to encode the image (commented out)
Any ideas about this issue or how to make this program more sound please let me know.

My 2c.
I`ve had a quick look at your code and the output and I`m assuming that the vertical RGB lines are what you intended.
Jpeg works in blocks, and averages pixel valiues across them.
If introducing those primaries into the graphic and then compressing it makes it darker that`s likely the result of the primary colours being averaged by the compression algorithm.
You should look at resizing the image first, drawing it onto an offscreen buffer, then doing an overlay (alpha channel) with the primary colors instead, IMHO.

How can I avoid image 'distortion' when saving jpegs from Photoshop?

I've created a logo with a transparent background and saved as an eps in Illustrator CS3. To create a jpeg I then opened opened the eps in Photoshop CS3, set the resolution at 300ppi and then saved the image as a jpeg. The image views ok on screen but when it is inserted into a word document and then printed, the background of the image is 'blurry' - it has small red dots through and you can see also the 'edges' of the image. Not sure what I'm doing wrong! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the ideas. Had to have a jpeg at the 'clients' request so I couldn't use the .psd and .png options.
I came across some info stating MS Word doesn't support CMYK jpeg which I did not realise. So to solve the issue, I ended up opening the eps file as a Smart Object in RGB colour mode at the required resolution in Photoshop CS3 and then saving as jpeg. The jpeg then printed perfectly after being inputted into a Word document - no blurriness or resolution issues. I just had to advise the 'client' about the colour issues with RGB vs CMYK and not to use the jpegs for any professional printing.

Distiller missing text and image links when saving to pdf

Not sure if anyone has experienced this issue before. Basically I create artwork 1up in indesign CS3 and print as a postscript file "print ready settings" then create a pdf through distiller 8.1.2. After this I then imposition the 1up PDF back into indesign (using the pdf as a link and then step and repeat it) then I print the new imposed artwork as postscript file again and distill it as a PDF ready for offset printing.
Most time this process works like a dream, but every now and then distiller doesn't want to process the file correctly and images and sometimes text have dropped off the final imposed PDF file. It doesnt notify me of any problems when distilling. As you can imagine working in the print industry this is VERY SCARY
As i am using a common 1up pdf link the imposition should be correct, (all the pdf linked images should be the same anyway) Is it a memory issue, or a bug in distiller perhaps.
Im running a Mac with OSX 10.4.11 with 2Gig of RAM.
If you would like to see a sample of the issue let me know.

Working in a pre-press environment we obviously prefer to print from pdf files (as opposed to using supplied native art). As a result I am always receiving pdf files from external clients who have saved their artwork from indesign to pdf format, so Im not sure what the real difference is between me imposing a supplied indesign/pdf files in indesign vs me imposing my own indesign/pdf files in indesign. (aprt from perhaps going through distiller twice)
i can see what your saying though and for years i have been using the cut and paste and step and repeat method but recently changed my workflow for a few reasons
- I noticed that by printing a 1up pdf and relinking the file back into my indesign imposition the final imposed pdf was lower in size
- if a client made a change to the artwork after imposing (which always happens) all i had to do was make the change, resave the pdf 1up link again and update the link and it did it for me and saved me from step and repeating all over again,
- whenever the job was printed again in the future i could use the same procedure, resave as 1up pdf again and update the link.
- plus i knew that if i was using the one link all my step and repeats would be exactly the same each time (and i didn't have to worry that a graphic that hadn't been selected/grouped correctly and would drop off when step and repeating)
.....and for sure it probably is a slightly longer way to impose a job for print but it saves me half the time on the next print run, and i can use my imposition file as a template for similar jobs also.
I have found the workflow i use works fine, apart from these rare hiccups which i can get around by resaving the pdf again anyway, but what Im really worried about is the times this error presents itself and doesn't notify me that a problem has occurred.

Images distorting when saving as pdf

I am having a problem when exportng a file as a pdf. A jpg image that I am using distorts. This is a high res file and I have tried exporting with both the 'high quality print' and 'press quality' presets.
I have tried printing directly from illustrator and the image looks great, when I print from the pdf the image looks disorted.
I have attached an image to show what I mean, the image on the left is from the pdf.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

To fix the bump here, I would open the image in photoshop, and add a little more canvas to the right side. If you have more time, I would recreate this as a vector object, as this does not look too good in Illustrator.

LabWindows/CVI and IMAQ - Invalid Image Type when saving bitmap

I create and image, grab it, then display it, but when I go to save it using imaqWriteBMPFile, I get an error that maps to Invalid Image Type, so I use imaqCast to cast it to an IMAQ_IMAGE_U8 type (which is what the orignal image was created as), then it works, except that my image has changed, that looks like the contrast or something has changed. Any suggestions?

What kind of camera & IMAQ board are you using? I have seen similar problems when a 12 bit camera is used. The image is acquired as a 16 bit image, and if you just convert it to an 8 bit image, it ends up looking like the one you attached. To correctly convert to 8 bits, you need to shift the appropriate number of bits during the conversion. For a 12 bit camera, that would be 4 bits.

PSE 6 Images change when saved

...within PSE 6 all the dimensions are as I would like them to be, and everything looks correct...when I save as anything ( .pdf .jpg .png ) the image does not hold its values exactly and the image looks stretched vertically or squished horizontally...
...i have printed the file to confirm the fact that something is being changed and causing the image to loose its aspect ratio when i save as something outside of a .psd file...

...i didn't say that there were any photoshop fourms on the Apple site...i've looked myself, but i did make use of the search option to look for possible questions and solutions to the problem that i'm running into...once again...thanks for your help

Word for mac 2011 - jpeg images vanish when saved as pdf

The subject box pretty much explains the problem! I've tried ticking the 'drawing objects' box in preferences, and unchecking the 'image placeholders', but I still get pdfs with just a blank space where my word .docx has an image. help!

Since Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products, and Word is made by Microsoft you should really consider posting your question on MS's own forums for their Mac software

FM9: terrible image quality when saving a .fm page as .htm page...

I have several framemaker pages I want to save as html pages.
The problem I have concerns the quality of images...
The images I import have a good quality but once I save the page as .htm, Framemaker automatically resizes it and duplicates the image under another name..
Framemaker may not be the best tool to produce html pages but I also need to produce a PDF version of these pages...:-/
I have tried to import .png files, .jpeg files but everytime the result is as bad as before in the .html version..
So far the only solution I have found is to use Dreamweaver to resize the images by hand but it may become a tedious work since I have a lot of images....
Do you have an idea how to obtain a good image quality result in .html?
Do you think I am not using the appropriate tool to do this?

Anna,
FM's html export is quite simplistic and lacks many controls.
If you need to get good html from FM, then consider using Omni Systems mif2go (see: http://www.omsys.com/dcl/mif2gopg.htm ). It can be set to use the original import files so no unintended conversions take place. Once you've configured the settings to your liking, it's a simple click and convert for production use. The evaluation version is fully functional and doesn't time out - it just does some random word shuffling so the output wouldn't be usable as a reliable reference.

Image size when saving?

I need to save my images at 300dpi. Any ideas? The tablet and phone automatically saves as 72dpi. Regards Jon.

Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news; PS Touch deals with 72 DPI only. Sorry.
(As an aside, I could see why due to the hardware constraints of tablets and smartphones at this time. They're catching up but they're still nowhere near desktop-power capability.)
