Epson 2200 Color problem solved...I think

I have read the posts on the color problems with 10.6 and the EP 2200. I too had the same issues after installing 10.6 this evening. After much teeth grinding and some choice words I set about solving my printing problem.
The Gutenprint driver has the same problems GIMP had. It isn't really printer specific, as in all the options you once had. I would rather have no driver than have this lame piece of software automatically installed. Gutenprint will make the printer run but that's about all it will do.
The solution is pretty easy:
1. Open System Preferences. Click on Print and Fax
2. Select the 2200 (or any printer giving you fits) and click the to delete the printer. Close prefs.
3. Go to the Epson site and download the 10.4 driver, Epson 11832. Install.
4. Also download the 10.6 updater and install.
5. Open System Prefs>Print and Fax again.
6. Click the and select the printer model, in my case Epson 2200.
7. In the drop down window Select Epson SP 2200 not the Epson Stylus Photo 2200 - Gutenprint v5.2.3! The latter being a Jack of all Trades and Master of none.
8. All the print functions reappear as expected.
Do I believe the reports of Epson dumping on the Mac market? Not a chance. Mac has the majority (well over 50% and growing) of the graphic and creative arts market. Most professional photographers I know use the Mac platform and are very enthusiastic about it. Epson couldn't afford to turn their backs on the Mac platform.
With 10.6 I did loose all my custom icc profiles from PS but not PS Lightroom. I also lost the custom monitor profile. I will re-profile my paper/ink/scanner/monitor and consider it a light hit. I'm sure I don't know why this update was so rough on the drivers. I'm also sure that there will be other pains I have yet to discover.
Is 10.6 crap? Probably not. Will I install 10.7 when it arrives? You bet! At OSX worst it is better than Gate's best!!

This is all good info, but for me at least, the real issue is not whether you can get the driver/printer to function (most people seem to be able to get it working) but when you get it functioning under Snow Leopard are there color issues.
Although the printer may work fine for basic documents etc, it is for color-critical photo work that I need my 2200. Many other posts are reporting that although the driver is functioning, there are fairly severe color issues when trying to create high-quality photographic prints using the standard color-managed workflow. This would be rather crippling for photographers and other artists who rely on their 2200.
Maybe those posting here could comment on whether they have been using their 2200 for photographic purposes and whether or not they have seen color issues. I wonder if some people just aren't noticing a problem because they aren't doing color-managed photographic work.
I haven't installed Snow Leopard yet and I'm trying to determine if this is affecting a very small percentage of people or if everyone is having trouble getting proper color from their 2200 since Snow Leopard. So far I haven't seen a single post specifically stating that they they are using the 2200 for high quality photo printing and have had no color issues under Snow Leopard.

  • CS3 Leopard Epson R1800 driver problems solved (hopefully)

Trying to put this post in searchable terms for others having the same problem finding the answer -- new to mac.
Everybody knows that you need to go to epson.com and download the new mac leopard drivers for most of the printers, including R1800. But the new driver won't install correctly unless you go into Library/Printers/ and move the entire "EPSON" folder into the trash can before double clicking the VISE install icon on the downloaded package. (Maybe there is another way to make it work, but mine wouldn't actually install and start working till I did this.)
If you have the right driver, you will see "EPSON SP R1800 (1)" as your driver in System Preferences/Print&Fax. Also, you will see "Print Settings", "Roll Paper Option", "Expansion" and "Extension Settings" as options in the pulldown menu in the epson print dialog through PS CS3 (after hitting print in the first print dialog box). There is also a "basic" and "Advanced" choice under Print Settings.
If you still have the wrong driver, you won't get any errors, but the new dialog box won't show up. The old driver that doesn't work shows up (I think I remember correctly) as EPSON SPR 1800 in your System Preferences window. No parenthetical. Also, if you have the old bad driver, in the epson print dialog box, you see a different set of options, and no 'basic' and 'advanced' choice under print settings.
I hope that helps some people. I was having a hard time knowing if I had the new driver actually working (even though I thought I installed it). Turns out I didn't! Thanks to random post by John McWilliams and Duane Ellison (who posted screenshot of new dialog in the LR forum), I figured out the thing with the Epson folder. Now let's just hope the prints look good!

    Hi Laura.
Isn't that the most frustrating thing in the world? Anyway, that isn't the right driver. That is the one that ships with Leopard (or something, I don't know - anyway, wrong one).
Try deleting the EPSON folder again, deleting your printer from system prefs/print fax, reinstalling the driver and re-finding your printer. Now that I think about it, I did that, and generally fiddled around in there a bit, before it worked.
I don't know how Macs associate printers with drivers (I'm a PC person and missing my PC!), but once the software in the dmg package was properly installed, the printer automatically picked up the EPSON SP R1800 (1) driver when I told it to go look for printers. I didn't have to choose it from the list of drivers.
    Hope that helps.

  • Emacs color problem - SOLVED

I'm using emacs on the command line and it works well with Xfce's terminal, but in urxvt after changing the background to black and text to white the colors in emacs look really lame.
    Screenshot: http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/7445 … roblem.png
Without changing the settings in xdefaults colors work well, but bright colors on a white background are really annoying. The colors also work well outside emacs. Any ideas about what to do?

  • Problem with color Epson 2200 on Tiger, Photoshop 7

I'm running Photoshop 7 on an iMac G4, 768 mb RAM, with an Epson 2200 printer. I've been using the same color management system with good results for 3 years. I hooked up an Epson R200 to print CD covers, and it caused my 2200 driver to crash. I reinstalled the driver, and now all my ICC profiles are messed up.
I've reinstalled the driver from the original disk, the updated driver from Epson, and the new ICC profiles from Epson. I'm getting a serious magenta cast on all of these, including ICC profiles I tried downloading from Ilford. I've contacted Epson, but all they told me was how to install the drivers, which I already knew. I responded back to them with a detailed description of the problem, but they never responded. I also took another Mac with Tiger and still have the same problem. I suspect that even though I've got color management turned off, the new Epson drivers are ignoring it and color processing anyway.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Magenta cast sounds like double color management.

  • Epson R1800-color match issues solved

I had reported issues with the printer no longer matching the monitor colors
many of you said to get a hardware device and calibrate monitor
instead I downloaded a newer driver for the printer
    still had issues
    SO:
I changed from printer manages colors to PS managed workflow and decided to use color profiles from ILFORD (smooth glossy)
    document space sRGB-IEC61966-2.1
    printer profile- ISGP9.....etc
relative colormetric (recommended by Epson document)
    black point compensation ticked
    then in Epson interface:
turn off printer mgmt (check ICM box>> then check off)
if you use preview before print, the image will look hideous in the interface, but prints fine
    looks pretty good
    prints match monitor colors
so I am thinking it is the Espon color profiles that are whack

  • Awful Color on Epson 2200 after Snow Leopard Upgrade

I'm an experience photographer and printer who has done extensive printing on the Epson 2200 under previous versions of the OS using CS4. As a beta tester for Snow Leopard I had used it extensively on another machine before the release, so I did not hesitate to upgrade my photography production computer as soon as it was available this past weekend.
The problem I now have is that print colors are all wrong - very greenish (bluish?), which is typically a symptom that nothing is managing the printing out of PS. (Reddish/purplish prints are often a symptom that color is being managed by both PS and the printer's own software.) I have changed nothing else in my workflow or printing process besides doing the upgrade - I have a solid workflow process that works consistently and accurately, or should I say it DID work so until the upgrade.
I have installed the updated 2200 drivers from the Epson web site. I have removed and re-added the printer in the preferences panel. Still no joy.
Help? Advice? Anything to try that I haven't thought of yet?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

Thanks for offering a possible solution - but it doesn't work if one prints in the recommended way out of PS CS4 and lower. The normal and correct way to print is (as the person following your post mentioned) to select "Photoshop Manages Colors" by selecting this option in the first print dialog box, click the "Print" button at the bottom left to bring up the next "Print" dialog window, use the "Color Management" tab and select "No Color Adjustment."
The awful print is just as it was before the process you described, I'm afraid.
Are you perhaps choosing "No Color Management" in the first print window and then "Color Controls" from the "Color Management" dialog in the second window? This turns color control over to the printer, which is not the best or most accurate way to print. With this option I do, as I mentioned earlier, get a print that is "less awful" than the horribly bad dark green/blue and unusable version when I print the correct way - but the colors are not right. The effect may be subtle if you are not very critical about printer output, but I'm comparing a print made a few days before the upgrade to the best I can get using this second-best method and the print is noticeably bluer and darker - not consistent with the print output I need.
The Gutenberg option sounds interesting, but I have yet to hear of anyone getting a simple and consistent method of precisely duplicating the results using the normal "Photoshop manages colors" approach. And with high quality printing, consistent and predictable results are absolutely critical.
One person reported online that he had contacted Epson, whose representative told him to "get a new printer - do you expect us to support a printer that is six years old!?" Very bad attitude and awfully poor customer support if true. If I ask Epson today how long their new printers will last, do you think they'll tell me "no more than six years after the printer was first introduced?" And don't forget that most of the prints were not purchased on the day of introduction "six years ago," but were purchased perhaps several years after that. If this continues to play out this way, one would be very wise to reconsider purchasing any Epson printer but the very newest model right after introduction - and it might be a better idea to compare support with other manufacturers of excellent photo printers. HP photo printers are every bit as good as Epson and Canon has been doing an increasingly fine job recently.
It also doesn't help that the Epson site is completely silent on the subject of this and many other printers relative to Snow Leopard. I would not like it, but if they really don't intend to support the 2200 and other printers, where is the list of those that they no longer support? (Apple issues such a list from time to time.)

  • I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

Have you checked the ink cartridges and made sure the nozzles are clear? Are you able to print from outside of iPhoto with the correct color?
Try the following: make temporary copy of the library and do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

Yes, the iPhone 5S is a global phone. However, Sprint will only unlock phones for use on GSM networks outside of the U.S. In the U.S., that phone can only be used on Sprint's network.

  • Color of prints to epson 2200 suddenly shifted.

I am running 10.4.11 and print to an Epson 2200 printer. I am pretty good on profiles and color management.
All of a sudden I am experiencing a color shift on some of my tried and true images. The images are darker and have a green shift and no vibrancy. I have cleaned heads, etc. and checked and rechecked the color management settings. Its like overnight something has changed. I have read posts elsewhere that Snow Leopard can exhibit this change but I am at a loss to explain what has happened. I have done a software update sometime in the last month.

I'm struggling with the same issue with my Epson CX5000 on 10.5.8. Photos are printing darker than they used to, especially in the blue/black colors. Flesh tones look good and sharpness is unchanged. Several black and white prints now have a sepia tint to them as well. Getting same results whether I print from iPhoto or Printshop Elements. Still scouring the net for a solution but I've eaten 3/4 of a cartridge set just trying to resolve this... not cheap at $60 a set.

  • What do you think of this book: "Programming and Problem Solving with Java"

    Hello Everyone:
This may be a strange post but I am wondering if anyone has read this book and what do you think of it?
    Book Information
Title: Programming and Problem Solving with Java
Authors: Neell Dale, Chip Weens, Mark Headington
    Publisher: Jones & Bartlett
    Thanks for any comments

No believe me the book is bad! The only reason I asked is I am in a university class that uses those two books for there course. The author messed up on HelloWorld.java with 4 errors at compile time! How can anyone be that stupid since they are the ones who are supposed to be teaching me the fundamentals of Java. Anyhow I just wanted other people's thoughts about the books.
    Thanks again for your input.

  • Printing with Epson 2200 and Lightroom v1.3.1

Ever since installing Leopard and Lightroom v1.3.1 in my PowerMac G5, my Epson 2200 printer produces prints with a very significant magenta cast. Does anyone know of this problem or, better yet, does anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Thank you in advance.

I loaded file 11832 from epson us site. This driver v3.0aAs is for v10.4.4 - 10.4.x intel based macs. Even though it's not for leopard? I did this as nothing else work prior for LR. I also downloaded easyprint v3.1bA. I set it to managed by printer then hit print, at this point I set color sync on the pull down tab along with checking the rest of that printer menu such as paper type i.e. glossy profile and the mode to advanced print quality 1440 with the high speed box unchecked. The rendering intent is perceptual & print res at 360 dpi. The print output is at acceptable than most of what I had prior which was lack luster. I did base my start point for LR from the LR book by Scott Kelby. I think the output can be tweaked a bit which is my next endeavor. This did work so I hope that this help's.

  • I can't get good prints from my Epson Stylus Color 1160 now I have OS10.4.4

My previous Mac was a PowerMac 8600/250 with OS9.1. Since I have had the new iMac G5 the prints I get from my Epson Stylus Color 1160 (which was working OK with OS9.1) have a poor colour match with the on-screen image and are too dark. The printer interface offers far less options than were available with OS9.1. I have downloaded the latest driver from Epson. I even found an alternative driver on the internet called GutenPrint 5.0.0bz2. When I tried to install that I was told that a newer version was already installed. I have tried all variations on the driver settings but none of the results are anywhere approaching satisfactory. I have spoken to Epson but they were not able to solve the problem. I mainly work in Photoshop CS2 so I spoke to Adobe about the problem but it still wasn't resolved. Does anyone have any suggestions of what else I can try?

When you were printing in OS 9, did you print in CMYK or RGB profiles?
If your printing directly in Photoshop, try, I think its "RGB 1956" profile. Good luck and let me know if this helps.

  • Why does my Epson 2200/ Print: Media Type list only 4 of the media types?

For some reason my Epson 2200 when I'm trying to print a photo in Photoshop, and other programs, shows under Print/Presets/Print Settings/Media Type: Plain Paper, Enhanced Matte Paper, Velvet Fine Art Paper and Water Color-Radiant White.
What isn't shown is the rest of the paper media types of: Premium Glossy, Premium Luster, Premium Semi Gloss, Canvas-Luster and a whole host of variations in those types of media. In essence what isn't showing are most of the print profiles from Epson for the different types of paper.
I done everything that I can think of to correct the problem and nothing seems to work. Now it has progressed to the point I'm have the same problem with my Epson Stylus Photo R200.
Both Printers are on USB connections. I've tried deleting the printers from the Printer Setup Utility; running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions; trashing Epson Printer Utility; trashing the preferences from the Home folder; trashing the Epson folder from the HD/Library/Printers folder; and then reinstalling all of those trashed items and deleted items and running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions.

    QuickSilver G4/Dual 800/1.5gig.memory   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    QuickSilver G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I figured it out myself and answered my own question. If you have matte black ink installed when you are trying to print on glossy, the paper type is limited to only that media which black matte ink is specified. You have to switch out the matte ink for photo black ink. Delete the printer from the Printer Setup Utility and reinstall the printer. Whereas with the Photo Black Ink you can print on all types of media.
Nothing like driving yourself crazy over a minor point that puts a cog in the wheels of progress. :O)
