Epson 3800 Printer & Photoshop CS4

I've had the snow leopard disc since it came out some 6 months ago, but haven't installed it due to so many issue that I've read about.
1) Is anyone using snow leopard successfully with the Epson 3800 Printer? Epson has yet to release (if they ever will remains a mystery for owners of this printer) a full-fledged update for the driver.
2) Is anyone using Photoshop CS4 with snow leopard without issues?
Thanks.

Well Adobe did it again offering a discount to convert to CS5 just before they released a new version of PSE that is PSE9 for mac
Tested it and the colours come out perfectly just like CS5 and they acutally left in the option on the print screen to select "NO COLOUR MANAGEMENT". In CS5 they pulled it out and as PSE9 appears to be made up of CS5 they must have back tracked on this option after the yelling and screaming from the community.
However we now have(another problem) an issue with grey/cyan printing outside the image area being printed see

  • Problem printing with Epson 3800 and Photoshop CS5

I came across a problem trying to print with my Epson 3800 in Photoshop CS5.  I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS 5 (and Lightroom 3).  I tried to print using my Epson 3800 with CS5 but could not adjust Print Settings, Color Mamagement, Paper Configuration, Expand Border because those options are unavailable and there is a line crossing through them. I get a message that says "The bundle 'Print Setting' could not be loaded because it does not contain a version for the current architecture".   It then says to contact the creator listed here for the latest version: PrintSetting version 3.57, Copyright SEIKO EPSON CRP 2001-2006.   I can print through Photoshop CS4 as usual, but CS5 is a problem.  I haven't tried printing though Lightroom 3 yet, and have not typically used Lightroom to print, but I wonder if that will be a problem too?
    Any help will be appreciated.

If you run CS5 or LR as a 32bit application you will have all these option available to you. You can then save these options as presets that can then be applied when you are running the applications in 64bit mode even if you can not access them individually.
Also you might want to check Epson's download site especially the European site to see if there are newer drivers or updates for your printer. The newest drivers for other printers like the 7600/9600 support application running in 64bit mode.

  • Trying to get Photoshop CS4 functional with Mavericks and an Epson 3880 printer. CS4 fails to send a file to the print queue. Have reinstalled the Epson 3880 driver for Mavericks. All looks good but no file is sent.

rying to get Photoshop CS4 functional with Mavericks and an Epson 3880 printer. CS4 fails to send a file to the print queue. Have reinstalled the Epson 3880 driver for Mavericks. All looks good but no file is sent.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

What EXACT version of Photoshop CS4 are you running?  You should be on Photoshop CS4 v 11.0.2.
Also run Apple's software update to see whether it offers you the latest Epson update:
    Printer Driver v9.33
Epson Stylus Pro 3880, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.
MOST IMPORTANTLY:  have Photoshop re-create its own Preferences:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here:

Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • Drivers for Epson 3800 printer

Hi, I am just beginning to learn how to print and would like to set up my Epson 3800, print from Lightroom, using Leopard. From reading all the issues folks have had, my first question is this: Should I even download the drivers that came with the printer, or do I use the new ones available on the Epson site? I gather paper profiles are included on the CD that came with the printer--would those also be on the download from the Epson site? Having never set up a printer to begin with, any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK ... A difference! In ColorSync Utility, I clicked on Devices, expanded Printers->Epson Stylus Pro 3800->Pro38 PLPP. Then, clicked the drop down for "current profile" associated with this paper, and chose Other and navigated to the Pixel Genius Epson Exhibition Paper profile, because this is the profile I want to use with EFP paper from LR. The driver paper selection is PLPP. Now it's associated with the profile I want to use. If I were to ever want to use PLPP paper, I would have to remember to reverse this in ColorSync I presume. NOW ... I went into LR and proceeded as if I would print using the PG profile from LR. When I went into the driver, I clicked on Preview and low and behold .... NO more green cast!! I can assume the output to the printer would be OK. Whether the PG profile is doing its job from LR, I don't know for sure. It looks from Preview the same as if I had specified Pro38 PLPP in LR. Anyone??
EDIT: I've CONFIRMED it! The ColorSync workaround DOES fix the 3rd party profile problem in LR! I specified Pro38 PLPP as the profile in LR, compared it with the PG Preview and there was a difference, proving that the PG profile was being used to render the print output from LR, now without the color cast.
BINGO! Just printed out the previous problem image, and it printed exactly as shown in Print Preview specifying the PG profile in LR for Epson EFP (which says to use PLPP in the driver, but that paper is now associated with the PG profile via the ColorSync Utility). At least there's a workaround fix to the the color shift problem printing from LR!
TIP: As learned from Jeff Schewe in his Camera to Print tutorial, remember to set Print Sharpening to High in LR to achieve printer output sharpening.

  • Epson 3800 printer profiles not showing up in Photoshop 3 and 5

When I try to print to my Epson PRO 3800, asking Photoshop to handle colors, this printer profiles are not available. I have this printer for years and have always used PS CS3 to print (and handle colors). Now I have PS CS5 but continue to use 3 for printing to the 3800, because the Epson profiles disppeared from CS5. Now they have disappeared from CS3 too. Any advices?
    Thanks1

it might be helpful to include what os you are using (unless i missed it)

  • Simple workaround for Epson 3800 printing too dark

I've read the threads over the last year on this topic with interest. I have a 3800, run CS3 on a Mac Pro, OS 10.4.11, do regular monitor calibration have, custom profiles and am an experienced Photoshop & Mac user. My colour prints are way too dark, independent of the paper used, but since B & W prints are perfect I assume I can rule out monitor brightness as the problem. After tearing my hair out & getting as much expert help as I could in NZ & reading all I could find online, I've come to the conclusion that for some unknown reason, some 3800s just have this problem. My workaround is to duplicate the flattened image, setting blend mode to screen at between 15 & 25%, depending on the image. With experience I can now quickly gauge the % required – if I'm not sure, I run some test strips. Sure, it's not a particularly "scientific" solution, but it's quick, easy & it works. If others out there are still struggling, I hope this helps.

Just sorted my problem using the suggestion on this site>
    http://www.photographyri.com/index.php/2008/11/11/photoshop-cs4-vs-cs2-print-engine-proble
I reset my printer as the Default Printer and now the prints are exactly(!) what I'm seeing on the monitor.
Wonder what the reset does apart from cure a bug?

  • Why does my Epson 3800 printer not print to scale?

I have designed a cover for a brochure in Illustrator CS4 that I intend to print at home. This cover has a mixture of colour graphics and mono text. The mono text prints more clearly on my HP LaserJet 2200 than my Epson 3800 inkjet printer so I intend to run my covers through the laser printer first for the mono text and then through the inkjet printer for all the colour items.
I did this for last year's brochure cover without any apparent problems but my latest design is highlighting the fact that the laser printer is placing items on the page more accurately than my inkjet paper - which results in some misalignment. My Epson 3800 appears to be slightly expanding my Illustrator page layout even though I have selected the 'Do Not Scale' option in the Illustrator Print dialogue box. A measurement between two items in my Illustrator design is 278 mm. The same dimension on the printed page is 284 mm, i.e. 6 mm wider, which is a non-trivial error.
Can anyone provide an explanation and/or solution for this behaviour?
    David

    Hi Harron,
Thanks for a rapid and accurate answer. The borderless option was indeed the culprit.
Your reply was also very useful in alerting me to the existence of the 'Retain Size' option under Expansion. I'd never seen that before, despite owning my Epson 3800 for over two years! Of course, I could have read the manual ....
The human brain is a puzzling thing. I don't think I'm stupid but I'd always ruled out the use of full bleed items in any of my amateur graphic design work as I didn't fancy printing everything on A3 just to cut it down to A4 (I use folded A4 to create an A5 brochure). I totally forgot my inkjet printer's capability to make borderless photographic prints. It's as if my brain was divided into a graphic arts compartment and a photographic compartment.
Quite by accident, your comments have made both halves of my brain talk to one another and now my cover design benefits from the use of full bleed. I can't thank you enough!

  • CS3, Mac OS 10.5.5, Epson 3800 Printing Problems (v6.11)

Since recently migrating to MacIntel running an obligatory 10.5.5 , I've been encountering problems printing to my Epson 3800 of 2 kinds that had previously not arisen on PPC based Macs using 10.4+: 1) When switching media that requires a change of black ink (photo black to matte or vice versa) there does not seem to be a straightforward way to go about this without encountering glitches (previously this had been handled smoothly by the driver); 2) The driver indicates randomly that my paper feed parameters are incorrect for a given job, when in fact this is not the case, and this makes printing needlessly irksome and inefficient. This is a marvelous printer that I've been using for the past 15 months so I'd appreciate any suggestions that would allow me to remedy these problems.

    Dear Ralph,
Thank you for replying to my post.
It does not seem that I will solve my problem by localisation "rectification". I am in an all International environment. Hmm.
Do you use InDesign CS3 in a totally colour managed environment?
I just got a Colour Profile done for my Intel Mac machine from InDesign and it is 'less than perfect'. Very frustrating.
This colour expert suggests I set up my work flow as follows:
[Well if I was allowed to include snapshots of my screen they would appear here.]
The Printer Profile I am using in the Colour Management dialogue box is the profile provide by the Colour Expert.
How do you set things up please?
I had, in fact still have, an Epson 3000 that the Colour Expert profiled and gave me phenomenal colour accuracy up until OS 10.5.5 when the Epson driver became non-operational. I am so disappointed that I am having so much difficulty with the 3800.
I think there are Adobe v. Mac issues plus driver problems!!!
If you can shed any light on this, I would welcome it.
    Thanks.

  • I am using epson 3800 printer

I am unable to print anything larger then a 5x7 print regardless of the setting that I use in lightroom 4 can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong, or how to print a image that is 11x14. ??????

I also have an Epson 3800 and have no problem printing on any size paper I can fit in it.  It is hard to tell where the problem is based on your minimal description but, you may have the 5x7 paper size selected in print section of LR or your printer driver may have that paper size selected.  To check the printer driver settings, click on "Page Setup" in the print module and drill down into the printer properites.  What is your paper source set to?

  • [WIN XP] Epson 3800 Print Previews

    Hi,
After spending quite some time with Lightroom I developed kind of a love/hate relationship which more and more swings over to the love side. Right now I love LR because my prints come out of my 3800 like a charm!
One behaviour that I can't explain though:
If I am printing out of Photoshop, the Epson printer preview roughly matches the print. I am leaving the CM to PS, and I am using a hardware (Gretag) calibrated and profiled monitor. I am also using specific paper profiles. Results are perfect. Same good results for b/w with the Epson extended b/w mode.
In LR the printer preview shows totally unusable colors (magenta, too light etc.). The print itself: Perfect! Same behaviour of the preview with different paper profiles, CM to LR, CM to printer. BUT: The print preview in the Epson extended b/w mode was ok, as was the print itself.
Printing without preview delivers the same good results.
Does somebody have a clue why there are these differences between PS and LR?
The print preview isn't all that important to me. But without this possibility I really, really would like to see softproofing in LR.
    Regards, Wolfgang

Thanks Dave for the reply. I do monitor the forums quite closely and have read all the links you suggest. The request for some more discussion was after already conducting tests about specific areas outlined in my post. Again, thanks for the reply. Any other replies would be nice too. LOL.

  • The Epson 3800 printing dark problem Windows XP and 7

CS-4 on a dual boot machine that used to have an Epson 2200 (it died) connected that didn't have the problem with some of the same files.
Like many, I am having the "prints too dark problem. Does the European driver v. 6.61 September 3, 2009 (US driver is 6.50) solve the problem?
The copy the layer and set blending option to screen helps a bit.
Drop down to 8-bit color and lighten via Variations helps a bit.
Would transfering the files to another computer and printing through CS original or the version before that help?
I am following, step by step the manual, setting. Proof colors set to the paper, Driver shows proper paper. Driver color management turned off with Photoshop manageing the color, etc.
    Any other suggestions?
Thank you and have a happy Thanksgiving.
    Bill

    Cured.
    Uninstalled "latest and greatest" driver.
Reinstalled the older one on the included CD.
As I use Prophoto color space, now make sure that the gamma=1 in the driver settings.
    Problem cured.

  • Lightroom 1.4.1 printing problem -Mac pro OS X 10.5.1 & Epson 3800 printer

    Updated to 1.4.1 from 1.4.
Printing is back to the ugly magenta - not as bad as with 1.3.1, but printing was perfect with 1.4
I printed the same file from Lightroom, from Aperture & from Adobe photoshop CS3.
Printing from Aperture & from Adobe photoshop CS3 are good. Soft-proofing from Aperture is near perfect. With Photoshop CS3 the soft-proofing thru View is good, but the review before printing is totally off, as it has been for eons. Soft-proofing in Lightroom 1.4.1 is equivalent to soft-proofing in Aperture (looks the same on the monitor) - but it doesn't print that way. Prints are way too magenta, as they were with 1.3.1
Seems like Adobe just can't get it right. Fix one thing only to mess something else up.
How do I go back to Lightroom 1.4?

    Mary Ann,
I'm having the same problem. It appears that changing the print option to "let LR manage colors" doesn't save and hence the color shift.

  • Why can't CC recognize my Epson 3800 printer?

I have downloaded the current printer driver for OS Maverick but CC still won't recognize the printer.

Have you checked with Epson to see whether they have a Mavericks-compatible driver or an update of their printer driver for your model?

  • LR 5 or Epson 3800 printing issue

Not sure if this belongs in this forum or one for the printer, but starting here.  Have been printing my images to this printer from LR (to include LR5) for quite some time, and as recently as last week able to print successfully 8X10s using 8X10 templates I had built in LR.  Yesterday, tried to print 17X25, and the print came out only with 8X10 printed on.  Then went back to the 8X10 that I had successfully printed only a few days before, and the 8X10 print had only 4X6 printed on it.  Nothing had changed with my LR print templates, so am greatly confused by this printer behavior.
The only thing that prints correctly are 4X6 prints.  They print as normal, fully sized 4X6.
Not sure what to do at this point.  Intuitively, think it must be something with the printer, as the templates in LR have not changed.  When I initially tried to print the 17X25 sheet paper using the auto feed, had lots of problems with the printer accepting the paper.  Had to turn off the paper check option on the printer.
But i subsequently turned that back on, as i recall seeing an error on the printer when trying to print 8X10 with the paper check option off.
Would appreciate comments/recommendations.  Thinking --- should I reinstall the printer driver on my Mac, or is there a way to redo the epson settings to "factory" ... sort of reinitialize.  Kind of grasping at straws.
    Thanks.

I can think of a couple things, though I don’t have an Epson printer so these are more shots in the dark regarding generic printing, not specific to your printer.  First, what is it that is occurring when you say the printing “fails”.  Does nothing print, or does it print differently than you expect or what does “fail” mean?  Maybe someone with an Epson printer will recognize the symptoms and chime in.
You’ve described how when you specify one size of paper the size of the photo comes out smaller.  There is one thing that LR doesn’t do properly in my opinion:  at least with the HP laser printers I print to, there is no way to change the paper size in LR without the printer driver already showing that paper size as the current paper, and there’s no way to change the paper size in the printer driver without actually printing something—there is only Ok (to print) and Cancel (to forget the change), so if I have been printing to letter-sized paper, and want to print something on legal-sized paper, then LR will have the letter-sized paper settings for margins and such, then I click Printer… and set my printer paper-size to Legal, which is fine, but I cannot get back out of the printer-driver to set Legal for LR’s margins, so instead I have to click Print to print a legal-sized photos using LR’s letter-relative margins, and only then will LR know I am printing to Legal-sized paper, and let me change the margins to be relative to that new size.
About the only way to get around having to waste a sheet of paper and ink every time you switch paper is once you’ve printed something correctly, save a preset for that paper size and printer settings.   I’ve had to add two user templates one for legal-sized and one for letter-sized paper for my HP printer driver so I don’t have to waste paper switching back and forth.
Now if you are already using saved presets, perhaps those presets are for a different version of the printer driver that has slightly different settings and this inconsistency is causing things to print wrong for you.  My suggestion would be to delete your preferences file, first, and see if that clears things up, and if not, then recreate your presets for the paper sizes you are using.  You might also try installing the printer with a different name and using that newer name with LR in case the old one has some inconsistent settings remembered by LR, somewhere.
To delete the preferences file you would want to shut down LR, and then find and delete the preferences file as shown in the following document, where the LR5 preferences file remains the same location as the LR4 preferences file:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-4.html
Otherwise you might try running Lightroom as administrator/root or not running it as administrator/root depending on what you’re not doing, now, and try making a difference user profile and seeing if it works differently, then.
