Epson 3800 problems

Just installed 10.6.4 a few days ago. Can't get my Epson Pro 3800 to print using Photoshop CS4. I wasn't able to print so I followed the advice here:
http://macperformanceguide.com/SnowLeopard-Printing.html
Here's what's going on: When I go to print through Photoshop CS4 it sends me through the standard print dialog windows and when I hit print the 3800 Print Job Window pops up, the file briefly appears in the queue for a second or two and then disappears from the queue with no print. Also, I've noticed that the final print dialog window which used to allow me to select print quality, paper type, paper speed etc. has changed and now I'm not able to make any of those choices.
Removed printer from Preferences Print/Fax Pane, removed old drivers, installed the latest Epson driver as well as the Epson Driver Updater and still no luck. Restarted the computer and printer, no luck. Uninstalled drivers, reinstalled, restarted everthing, no luck.
Please help- I'm a professional photographer and I use this printer constantly for my work and I'm at a real loss without it!

I was finally able to get it to work. I followed the directions in the link that I provided: http://macperformanceguide.com/SnowLeopard-Printing.html
The most important part was Step 1. I put the ENTIRE "Printers" folder in the trash and then EMPTIED it before going forward. Emptying the trash seemed to make a big difference for some reason before reinstalling the drivers. Once they were reinstalled the full-menu version of the print dialogue windows began to show and I haven't had printing problems since. I noticed that my old custom print profile for the papers that I used on 10.5.x was off so I built new ones with my profile builder and everything is fine now.
Ignore the advice to use the Gutenprint version as I've read in other forums as well as Apple's own advice to NOT use the Gutenprint driver as that was causing a lot of problems for many people.

  • Problem printing with Epson 3800 and Photoshop CS5

I came across a problem trying to print with my Epson 3800 in Photoshop CS5.  I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS 5 (and Lightroom 3).  I tried to print using my Epson 3800 with CS5 but could not adjust Print Settings, Color Mamagement, Paper Configuration, Expand Border because those options are unavailable and there is a line crossing through them. I get a message that says "The bundle 'Print Setting' could not be loaded because it does not contain a version for the current architecture".   It then says to contact the creator listed here for the latest version: PrintSetting version 3.57, Copyright SEIKO EPSON CRP 2001-2006.   I can print through Photoshop CS4 as usual, but CS5 is a problem.  I haven't tried printing though Lightroom 3 yet, and have not typically used Lightroom to print, but I wonder if that will be a problem too?
    Any help will be appreciated.

If you run CS5 or LR as a 32bit application you will have all these option available to you. You can then save these options as presets that can then be applied when you are running the applications in 64bit mode even if you can not access them individually.
Also you might want to check Epson's download site especially the European site to see if there are newer drivers or updates for your printer. The newest drivers for other printers like the 7600/9600 support application running in 64bit mode.

  • CS3, Mac OS 10.5.5, Epson 3800 Printing Problems (v6.11)

Since recently migrating to MacIntel running an obligatory 10.5.5 , I've been encountering problems printing to my Epson 3800 of 2 kinds that had previously not arisen on PPC based Macs using 10.4+: 1) When switching media that requires a change of black ink (photo black to matte or vice versa) there does not seem to be a straightforward way to go about this without encountering glitches (previously this had been handled smoothly by the driver); 2) The driver indicates randomly that my paper feed parameters are incorrect for a given job, when in fact this is not the case, and this makes printing needlessly irksome and inefficient. This is a marvelous printer that I've been using for the past 15 months so I'd appreciate any suggestions that would allow me to remedy these problems.

    Dear Ralph,
Thank you for replying to my post.
It does not seem that I will solve my problem by localisation "rectification". I am in an all International environment. Hmm.
Do you use InDesign CS3 in a totally colour managed environment?
I just got a Colour Profile done for my Intel Mac machine from InDesign and it is 'less than perfect'. Very frustrating.
This colour expert suggests I set up my work flow as follows:
[Well if I was allowed to include snapshots of my screen they would appear here.]
The Printer Profile I am using in the Colour Management dialogue box is the profile provide by the Colour Expert.
How do you set things up please?
I had, in fact still have, an Epson 3000 that the Colour Expert profiled and gave me phenomenal colour accuracy up until OS 10.5.5 when the Epson driver became non-operational. I am so disappointed that I am having so much difficulty with the 3800.
I think there are Adobe v. Mac issues plus driver problems!!!
If you can shed any light on this, I would welcome it.
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS5 & Epson Stylus 3800 problem (Mac)

I am experiencing a frustrating problem with Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printer with a Mac.
Trying to print on H-M paper, using the appropriate settings (see below), I find that under "Print Settings" on the printer driver, all the "Fine Art paper" choices are greyed out.
Also, which may or may not be relevant, no matter what presets are selected, the parameters remain the same (i.e., it does not appear to be responding to a change of presets).
I am running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 on an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. I have loaded the latest Epson driver, and reinstalled it after trashing the old /Library/Printers/EPSON folder.
    Settings:
    • Photoshop Manages Colors
    • Document profile:  HFA_Eps3800_MK_PhotoRag
    • Printer Profile: HFA_Eps3800_MK_PhotoRag
    • Intent: Relative Colorimetric
At this point I am baffled. Can anyone please help?

There are supposed to be Mac drivers and also Leopard beta drivers for the 3800.
There are too many Epson customers on Macs for them to not let the photo printers work with Macs.
P.S. I just Googled "Epson 3800 driver" and the first hit was the driver page. There are Mac drivers there, as there should be. *Did you scroll down past the Windows drivers* on that page? The Mac drivers are right there below the Windows drivers, just as they always are on the Epson site.

  • Panoramic print problem epson 3800

I set up a custom page of 40 x 13 inch, put the cell size in for the picture size i require and set everything else.  print preview shows the print as i want it, but when it prints it only does a small portion of the print the wrong way round.  Is there something in lightroom i'm missing or is it to do with the printer (epson 3800) setting.  paper is fed via sheet feeder, which i had done successfully on 2400 previously.

I rencently have a problem using custom paper size with an Epson 3800 and Lightroom. It may not be the same problem. I was not able to determine or understand if it was an LR or an Epson driver (Mac OS 10.5.6) error.
I use Moab Chinle "square" album (12"x13"). When I was printing this paper size, I got almost always half-printed page. I have tried many things but the last setting I modified solved my problem.
By setting the longest side to the height of the paper in the custom page definition, I do not have half-printed page anymore.
    Hope this will help.

  • Large Format printing problems via my Epson 3800

I am trying to print large card 17" x 22" from the rear feed tray on my Epson 3800 both from Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS4 on my Mac Pro OSX running snow Leopard both register the actual size of the document in the preview window (see attached) but will only print out at A4 size. I am wondering if I'm doing something silly as this is the first time I've trying printing at this size.

Please be sure to visit the Page Setup dialog box in the lower-left section of the Print module and set up the "format for" and page size correctly there.
There are some step-by-step suggestions here:

  • Test: Using Crop marks in indesign CS4 with Epson 3800 Mac 10.5.7

    Jun 19, 2009 9:35 PM
Crop marks using indesign CS4 with Epson 3800 Mac 10.5.7
My crop marks and pages are printing larger than my document sizes.  My paper size is 13x19, so I should have crop marks at the exact corners of the page sizes.  But indesign is printing the entire document larger.  So my document which is 11x14.75 is now printing 11.25x15.5.  All my settings are correct. So, is anyone else using an Epson 3800 with CS4 indesign having issues such as the above?  And can I ask (beg) a few of you to do a test print with crop marks and let me know the results?
My workflow has been completely stalled because I can't get my pages to print the right sizes with the crop marks at the right measurements.  I'm printing a photo portfolio on the Lumijet double sided paper and "when" it did work awhile back sometime several months ago, the finals looked great. I've already reinstalled both the Epson 3800 driver and the Indesign CS4 software, but the results are still the same.
    So, here are my settings:
    document size: 11x14.75
    in the print panel:
    Printer: Epson 3800
Setup: Paper size: Super A3/B13x19, scale 100% width & height, page position Centered
Marks & Bleed: Marks: "Crop Marks" checked. offset: 0, weight: .25, Bleed and Slug: Use Document bleed settings, include slug area.  The bleed is 0 for top, bottom, left and right
Color Management: Document profile: Adobe RGB, Options: Indesign handles colors, Printer Profile: (A custom made profile using Xrite for the 3800 with Lumijet paper)
The settings on the Epson 3800
    Epson 3800 Printer
Presets (set for the profile mentioned above)
    No Color management
Sometimes, on a whim, the printer and indesign cooperate together like good little children should. But not often.  And I can not conclude why they are nice to each other sometimes, but given the same detailed data at other times, they fight.
If anyone could run through a similar process using indesign with a photo layout and setting up the printer settings for both the Epson 3800 and in the indesign program and let me know their results, I would value your conclusions very much.  You don't even have to waste paper or ink.  Finally, after wasting so many pages of paper and of ink. I deleted the photos from the page, and printed it blank with only the crop marks for me to measure if it was coming out right or not.
Thank you for any response.  And feel free to call me if you want to vent about Epson 3800's or about Indesign CS4 anytime! I'm up late....  646 256 8853.
    Thaddeus

I specified the paper size as strictly 13x19, no boarderless, no retain size.  Same problem.   I also did as you suggested below.  The pdf document does remain true to the document.  As a pdf doc. I changed the color mgmt to Adobe rgb 1998.  It looks okay, but not as lively as I get when printing correctly with my color mgmt working and in sync.
Your final question about simply using photoshop.  Well... I might go back to it and give up on Indesign if this is the case that it won't simply crop my documents to the sizes that I input them to be cropped as.  But, I am using Indesign so that I can create a page layout that I can't do in Photoshop.  My folio is about 25 or more pages with double page spreads.  I am printing on a two-sided Lumijet paper and my folio was custom designed to be cut out at 11x14.75.  If and when it is printed correctly, I am printing on both sides of the paper and trimming it to exact size.
It sounds as if you have exhausted the potential problems and don't have a clear explanation for why the doc isn't printing correctly in Indesign either with the color mgmt. or the document sizes.  I'll try one more print using a different color profile similar enough to get at minimum, an okay print. If it doesn't print at least okay, then it isn't most likely my profile..... Okay done.  Crazy.  The color is inaccurate, but for some reason or another, the document size printed correctly. It measured exactly 11x14.75.  What I have done during this period of time is:
First) I did as you suggested and turned the Print to Adobe PDF 9 and created a print there. I measured it and it did measure correctly.  I didn't love the color, but... at least it is measuring correctly.
Second) I turned the Printer back to Epson 3800 (I'm beginning to think that this simple gesture was what caused the printer to print correctly)  I didn't change any settings, but I did make sure that they were set correctly as before. The paper size was set to 13x19.  When I make sure this setting is right in the "printer" dialogue for the Epson 3800, and then switch back to ID, the printer dialogue in Id changes to "Define by Printer."  But I changed nothing, other than the profile to an older one that I used before. The color is still inaccurate, but at least for two prints just now back to back, the measurements were correct.   What to do? Lol.
Thanks again for all of your time spent trying to resolve this issue.
    Sincerely,
    Thaddeus

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.3 Will Not Print on Epson 3800

I know it says printing problems solved, but today I wanted to print some tax forms and the dialog got as far as showing the file loading into the printer after accepting the Preview. Then it stopped. So at least for the Epson 3800 on Win 7, it won't work. However, it did print on an Epson Workforce printer on XP SP3. Both computers have the latest update.
One difference: with the 3800, I get asked if I want to save it and I have to say yes. The save is another file this time the extension is .prn which nobody can read. Or print.
I have the latest driver on the 3800, and it works in CS6 fine and also Open Office.

    Followup:
I checked out another form  and got the following notification:
After clicking OK, I also cannot print. In fact, I can find no Acrobat file that will print. It sure looks like it's the printing capabilities that are no longer enabled!

  • Color printing shift in Epson 3800 & InDesign CS5

    Somebody please help!
I wrote about this once before and have been looking for a thread to help me figure out why I am having so much trouble printing from my Epson 3800, since I upgraded to CS5. The issue is specific to InDesign and Acrobat. I have the identical settings from CS4, but when I print, the colors look faded. I have tried exporting the files to PDF (for high quality print) and then printing from Acrobat and I get the same result.
the two things that are different are the Mac OSX (Snow Leopard, used to be Leopard) and CS5. All other setting are exactly the same.
If I open the pdf in photoshop, this isn't a problem, so what has happened?
I would be so grateful to hear from anybody experiencing this problem.
    Thanks so much!
    sharon

In and of itself, synching settings in bridge won't have an effect on output, and won't affect existing docs unless your policy settings are to convert to the working space or you do it manually (neither of which are necessarily a good idea in all situations). Nor do we have any indication that this is a profile mismatch problem.
Without a lot more information about working profiles, whether they're already synchronized, driver settings, whether transparency is involved, and the patch levels of both ID and OS X I hesitiate to speculate on where the problem might be. There have been a lot of problems with printing from CS5 on OS X 10.6, but most seem to be worked around by exporting to PDF, which seems not to be the case here, so a lot more information would be beneficial.

  • CS2 vs CS3 printing to Epson 3800

In trying to diagnose a Photoshop/11880 printing problem, I made some test prints to an Epson 3800 from the same test file. Andrew Rodney's "printer test" image includes very smooth color gradations R > M > B > C > G > Y > R. This image was printed from PS CS2, PS CS3 and Lightroom to the Epson 3800 on Epson Premium Semigloss Photo paper using Epson's Pro38PSPP profile. The CS2 and Lightroom prints were identical. The transitions in the color gradations were very smooth. The CS3 print was very close in overall color balance, but the transitions in the gradations were not as smooth, or gradual, especially between magenta and blue, and between green and yellow. Shouldn't prints of the same file from CS2 and CS3, using the same profile, look identical? The on-screen soft proofs in CS2 and CS3 look identical, but the prints do not.

Epson profiles are located in driver package (as installed).

Yes, all settings were the same. I got official word from Epson today there are problems with CS3. Epson, Apple and Adobe tech people are meeting in a few weeks to find a solution. In the meantime, all printing from my Macs to the 3800 and 11880 will be from CS2 and Lightroom. Thanks for your input.

Photoshop CS4 Std., Win-XP Home SP3, calibrated monitor, ACR calibrated to the camera.
Epson 3800 Standard + cover on order.
While I wait for the replacement for my olde Epson 2200 to arrive, I have been spending a LOT of time trying to hunt down hints on what to do to get the most out of the 3800.
There are web pages after web pages on how to... Which one, or two, do you recommend as the best to print out as a reference?
Other than never EVER powering it down with the power strip, are there any other do NOTs with this printer? (That excludes things like taking it into the shower, dropping food or drink into it, seeing how high it will bounce, trying to print on bathroom tissue, etc. )
If this question belongs in the lounge, please forgive me.
    Thank you,

Well Adobe did it again offering a discount to convert to CS5 just before they released a new version of PSE that is PSE9 for mac
Tested it and the colours come out perfectly just like CS5 and they acutally left in the option on the print screen to select "NO COLOUR MANAGEMENT". In CS5 they pulled it out and as PSE9 appears to be made up of CS5 they must have back tracked on this option after the yelling and screaming from the community.
However we now have(another problem) an issue with grey/cyan printing outside the image area being printed see

I have never been able to print through the print module ever since upgrading to LR3. I have an Epson 3800 on a MacPro running 10.5.8.
I have absolutely no problems printing through Photoshop CS5. Beautiful results! NOTHING from Lightroom: Very frustrated! Any help, suggestions
    greatly appreciated!  - Craig

What happens when you try to print, any error messages?
Have you tried printing in Draft Mode (check the box in the Print Job panel)?
What settings are you using to print with?
Both my Macs print to my 3800 perfectly, I am on 10.6.5 though - have you considered upgrading?

I've had the snow leopard disc since it came out some 6 months ago, but haven't installed it due to so many issue that I've read about.
    1) Is anyone using snow leopard successfully with the Epson 3800 Printer? Epson has yet to release (if they ever will remains a mystery for owners of this printer) a full-fledged update for the driver.
    2) Is anyone using Photoshop CS4 with snow leopard without issues?

  • Print output not as wide as it should be (CS5 on Epson 3800)

I'm having problems printing (to an Epson 3800) on 17x25 paper (the image is 16x24 @ 240dpi).  The image is not printing the full width of that it should.  The odd thing is that it fills a different width every time I try to print it.  I have tried multiple images and the same thing happens, so I do NOT think it is something specific to the image.
I suspect it is a problem with my printer.  But after spending almost 45 minutes on the phone with Epson, they claim is must be a problem with PS (I'm using CS5 [12.0.4]  on Windows Vista 64-bit, SP 2 machine).  Epson support had me save the image as a JPG and print it from Windows native print util (and not PS), borderless on 17x25 paper and the printer was able to print the full width of the paper...they thus concluded it was not a problem with the printer...but I'm not so sure, I think it could still be a problem with their printer driver (and not a problem with the print head physically not being able to move that wide).
I've printed hundreds of prints this size with this version of CS5 on this exact same machine and printer and never had a problem bef
The "native" dimensions of the image are 2336 x 3504.  I have resized it to 3864 x 5796 (which is 16.1 x 24.15 inches @ 240dpi).  The first time I printed it (where this problem occurred), it printed about 12 inches wide; the 2nd time about 11 inches, the 3rd time about 13 inches.  Note: the image is NOT being scaled, it is printing at full size but it just being cut off.
    The weird thing is that if I size it to any of the other 4 sizes I regularly print at everything is fine (5 x 7.5 on 5.67 x 8.33 paper; 8 x 12 on 8.5 x 12.5 paper, 10 x 15 on 11 x 17 paper and 12 x 18 on 13 x 19 paper).
My first suspicion was that their was a physical problem that was preventing the print head from moving that wide.  But the experiment the Epson tech had me do shows that the print head is not "blocked".  Thus, I can only think that there is either: a) CS5 is someone putting an incorrect "bounding box" in bit stream it is sending to the printer or b) there is a problem with the Epson print driver in that it is interpreting the "bounding box" of the image incorrectly (but only when sized at 3864 x 5796).what m
Does anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this or how I could fix it?  I have a customer waiting for prints (that they've already paid for!).  Let me know if there is any further information I need to supply in order to further diagnose.
p.s. I tried Adobe's Chat support and got nowhere and the hold time for phone support is over 2 hours...so I thought I'd try here

, Well, I finally got thru to phone support.  They told me they couldn't help me because I hadn't updated to CS6.  If I wanted them to help me I would have to pay them :-(  I asked to speak to a supervisor because has never been the their policy before (I got phone support on CS3 as recently as 6 months ago without being asked to pay for it).  After yelling at the supervisor, he agreed to transfer me back to the 1st-level support person and instructed him to try some simple diagnosis and if that didn't solve my problem then I would have to pay for more support.
The 1st-level support told me to:
    1) quit PS
    2) remove the Adobe Photoshop X64 CS5 Prefs.psp file from C:\Users\[my username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings (path may be different depending on your version of windows)
    3) restart PS
    4) open/resize and print my image
low and behold, that solved my problem!  I'm happy!  And I didn't have to pay for it!
I still don't know exactly what the problem was, but somehow a corrupted preferences file was at fault.
Now, all I have to do is get my preferences set back to they way I had them before the "factory reset".

  • Can't get correct Print Dialog options when installing Epson 3800

    Hi,
I am certainly not an expert at Mac OS. I have exhausted all my options on getting the Epson 3800 driver installed correctly. I am very thankful for any help since I have been working on this issue for 4 days.
I connected my Epson 3800 to my PowerPC via USB. The proper driver shows up on the "About this Mac" window under printers. I added the printer through the "Print & Fax" option. I select to use the 3800 printer option for the Selected Printer for the Print Dialog. However, when I use print in any application (Text Edit, Photoshop CS3) I only have the following options available in the pulldown below the Presets box:
    Copies & Pages
    Layout
    Scheduler
    Paper Handling
    Color Sync
    Cover Page
    Summary
I have no PDF button available on the panel. I should have about 3-4 more items on the list (e.g. Print Settings). Also the driver being used doesn't show up on Print Dialog.
I can get different settings with my cheap HP Officejet 4300 All-in-one printer.
I've reinstalled the OS a couple times. I've reinstalled the driver many times. Sometimes there is a Epson USB option available from the More Printers button in Add Printers and sometimes not. I've also tried installing with Ethernet and got the same result - shorter Print Dialog options.
I have printed to the printer without using any advanced options. However, this greatly limits the capabilities. The printer appears to be talking to the computer - I can get ink levels displayed on the screen.
I've been walked through the setup process by Epson technical support twice but they were stumped. Looking for any suggestions or areas to investigate. I'm really baffled and I've spent hours on it.

The PPD File version is listed as 1.0
I tried the safe boot option. You weren't kidding about taking a while. I thought my Mac was trying to take off with all the fan noise. :o) However, it still didn't work - no PDF button.
I did the printer utility reset but that didn't seem to work either.
I tried the shareware you recommened. However I got the same result. Perhaps I should restart? This is the output from it:
