Epson 3880 problems with Yosemite

I always used Epson 3880 for printing large (Super A3 size) prints and I have not seen a problem until I upgraded to Yosemite.
The printer is still printing OK, except the bottom 2cm are truncated, just white paper appears where there should be a part of the picture.
Since I print the same image as a test chart as before, using the same settings on my Epson 3880, as with Snow Leopard. I first suspected the PhotoShop, so tried using the Preview and other photo editing programs, the page is always truncated about 2cm, no matter what settings I used, Fit ti screen, or 100%, nothing affects the stubborn truncating. I tried downloading the latest Epson drivers, from Epson web site, even used their new Preview program, rebooted number of times, tried loading the paper from the front, from the rear, and the problem is persistent. I wasted half a dozen expensive Super A3 Premium Matte papers, not to mention ink.
Then, I tried booting in Boot-Camp, with Windows 8.1, installed the Epson 3880 drivers there and there was absolutely no problem. The test chart printed exactly how I set it up over a year ago, using borderless printing, with 100% coverage, no truncating!
So, I am suspecting the Yosemite has some issue with Epson 3880 and paper size?
Can anybody help?

Hi guys,
I am happy to report that my "truncating" problem with my Epson 3880 is now resolved.
I spoke today with Epson people and they just advised that I should install the previous drivers for this printer, v.9.33, which was for Maverick, not Yosemite.
I didn't know how to uninstall the current driver (v.9.34) built-in the Yosemite, so I only used the "-" sign under the printers to remove it.
I installed this one, and it works like it should be.
I am not sure if this is Epson or Apple problem, so perhaps Apple should act in embedding it in the Yosemite.
I will copy and paste this comment and send it to Apple support, as suggested by Cunnla (in case they don't ready this forum).
Thank you for all that tried to help.

  • Acrobat 11 Epson GT-S50(ICA) Interface Problems with Yosemite

After updating the ICA scanning software for Yosemite 10.10.2 I was finally able to get Acrobat 11.0.10 to scan using my Epson GT-S50 scanner. However there is a strange problem with the user interface. When I select scan the following appears.
as you can see, all controls except "image correction" are missing from the right side. The only way to get them to reappear is to change "none" to "manual" image correction as shown in the next image.
Now, if I proceed with the interface as shown all sheets are scanned but the session will always be aborted after the last sheet.
I am able to get the process going but only if, after choosing "manual" to get the controls to refresh, I subsequently set "Image Correction" back to "none". This procedure must be repeated every time I use the ICA interface. It works but I can never use the Image Correction features. This last image is what the interface should look like from the get-go.
Again, if "Image Correction" is set to manual the scan is aborted at the end.

    Try un-installing Sophos.

  • Problem with yosemite and parallels

Since I have upgraded to yosemite and parallels 10 my windows 7 has been using a lot of CPU resources.  Windows 7 runs very slow and it been using almost constantly 100% of one of the quads resources.  This just started to happen when I upgraded, because I did not have this problem with Mavericks and Parallels 9 or 10. I have an iMac 2011, 8GB of Ram.  Has anybody had this issue.  Thanks.

Thanks for the response.  I was searching on a parallels forum website and found the following:
As from the symptoms, the issue can lie in NVRAM preferences of your particular Mac.
Please do the following to solve:
open Terminal application on Mac (Applications/Terminal.app)
please type this command (you may copy-paste it to the terminal from this message):
    sudo nvram boot-args="debug=0xd4e"
    Hit Enter.
You will be prompted to enter Mac user password. Please type it and hit Enter.
Note: you won't see what you are typing, just type and hit Enter. If you don't have Mac user password, please create a temporary one.
Then you may restart your Mac and the issue should be solved.
If not - please reply me here and I'll create a ticket for you in Support.
I did the above and it seemed to correct the problem.

  • Epson Printing Problem with CS3

My Epson Stylus Pro 9600 has a problem with CS3 printing. When printing large images (i.e. 36x60) a portion of the image would be missing at the bottom (blank) The 10.01 update addressed this issue but it seems not completely. The problem was attributed to using a "Custom" print resolution however I still have this problem and after much testing I have narrowed it down to the "Finest Detail" check box under the custom, advanced tab. Checking this "Finest Detail" check box reproduces the problem.
I'm not sure where the problem lies whether it be Photoshops new stripped down print code or Epsons drivers. For the mean time I will keep this feature de-selected. Hope this helps other frustrated Epson Owners.
Vista 32, dual quad xeon 2.33
Photoshop CS 3.3 Extended (Masters Collection)
Epson Stylus Pro 9600, Drivers ver 5.52, current printer bios

Adobe blamed Epson drivers for not anticipating CS3's changes. Like they're clairvoyant or something. Their reason was that it was too hard to take into account every printer on the market when writing the new (unasked for) CS3 printing module. A feeble excuse when it comes to Epson pro machinery, though - it is the industry standard, after all.
Solution? - use CS2 for printing, authored back when Adobe wrote its software to be compatible with existing equipment and drivers, not expecting the world to fall into line with whatever it decided it would do. CS2 works flawlessly with my 7800, CS3 remains a basket case for the same reasons you mention, though checking/unchecking the fine detail box makes no difference. CS3 is erratic - sometimes it works as directed, but then out of nowhere it will suddenly decide to attenuate a pano print.
We'll see if they get it right with CS4's "improved" printing, but don't hold your breath.

  • Photoshop suddenly does not print to Epson 3880 - PROBLEM: Cannot print from Photoshop  After restart error message appears:  - "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopen

    PROBLEM: Cannot print from Photoshop
    After restart error message appears:
    — “There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents.”
    • All print commands are greyed out and unavailable — even to call up the printer commands cannot be done.
The printer printed fine until about 2 weeks ago when this error message appeared.  Printing continues from Pages, I-photo, preview etc. —  only Photoshop fails.
The printer has been turned on and off, as have open documents been closed and open etc..   Preferences reset.  Repeatedly I have read through blogs and forums and attempted to contact Adobe — all without results
Epson support struggled to find reason and several solutions were tried and they assume this is an Adobe problem.
    Running Mac Powerbook X 10.10.2 / Photoshop CS6 13.0.6.x64
Attempting unsuccessfully to print to Epson 3880
What Adobe support will be of help.

  • Problems with Yosemite and Microsoft Exchange?

Hi, everyone, I upgraded all of my computers I work on to Yosemite (home and work); my iPhone and iPad both run IOS 8.1.  I have 2 Gmail accounts that I use regularly; my job (university) is using Microsoft Exchange for the mail server.  I use MacMail; don't really like Outlook for mail things.
I have periodically had some problems with pulling my job e-mail up on MacMail; since I converted to Yosemite, it has gone on steroids.  I can see all of my Gmail just fine (contrary to some others who have reported problems); anything that is Exchange-based mail on my job's e-mail account will show the sender and the subject—the message itself is blank, sometimes for minutes sometimes forever.  I have quit and restarted Mail, quit and restarted the computer to varying success, but it is still highly unpredictable other than not showing the message for a very long time.
When I use the web-based version of Outlook, it instantly shows everything.  An A-B comparison of Outlook and Mail sometimes even has some messages not having even been downloaded into Mail, even though I have clicked on Get Mail.
And—in the iPhone and iPad, everything is fine 100% of the time.  Works wonderfully.
    Any ideas?

Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Does anyone have NO problems with Yosemite?

Are the problems rare or are they affecting everyone?

The customer ratings in the Apps Store tell their own story....
You don't give 4 or 5 stars when you're experiencing serious problems. Personally my iMac9.1 works flawless with Yosemite. But there are some people with serious problems. If you want to play it save, wait for OS X 10.1. It won't be long before this first update will be available. Apple usually releases a first update within a few weeks and the real disruptive bugs will be addressed by then.
(but if you do update: Backup your harddrive first)

  • Epson Driver Problem with Mavericks?

After hooking up a new Epson-XP610 printer with my Mac Mini, Printers and Scanners in Mavericks System Prefs shows two printers -- one labeled as an Epson-610 Series with Driver version 1.0 and the other labeled Epson_XP_610_Series_2 with Driver version 9.14. The first one appears to be a wi-fi version since it has a trimmed down "lite printer utility" that directs me to a Bonjour page on Epson's web site, which tells me there is no software or firmware update for that printer. The second one has a more elaborate printer utility and appears to be the one that's hardwired to my computer. Epson's Software Updater tells me the Series 2 printer should be using Driver version 9.17 and the Mavericks page on Epson's web site also tells me I should be using Driver  version 9.17 for the printer while relying on Apple's software updater  for the scanner driver used by Image Capture. But when I download the 9.17 driver and click "install" the driver version shown in the printer utility still shows up as 9.14.  Why is Mavericks refusing to load the updated printer driver and forcing me to use the old 9.14 version?

My theory with the printer problems that people have with Mavericks is that the printer manufacturer applications and "utilities" are not very good. I think that the printer manufacturers still think of the Mac market as being of less value than the PC market, and as such, the software engineers that design their Mac software are not Rhodes scholars. Not the best and brightest. Kind of like Al Qaeda: they do not assign the smartest guys to be the suicide bombers.
    Try this:
Go to Applications > System Preferences > Printers and Scanners
Control-click on one of your printers and select "Reset printing system..."
This will delete all your print drivers.
Do a factory reset on your printer. You will have to refer to your printer's manual for how.
This is very important: uninstall all other printer manufacturer software, applications, and "utilities".
If you connect to your printer via WiFi, you will have to reconnect it to your network and enter your network password.
Go back to Printers and Scanners and let it download a print driver from Apple.
If this does not work then you may also have to reset your wifi network (if you print via WiFi) by powering everything down (modem, router, computer, printer) and then powering each item up. Power them up in that order (modem, router, computer, printer), and let each power up fully before going on to the next.
The same idea also works with misbehaving scanners: remove the printer manufacturer scanner apps and use Image Capture instead; let Image Capture download the scanner driver from Apple.

  • 'Waking up' problems with Yosemite.

    Hello folks.
I have a MacBook Pro which is just under a year old running Yosemite.
I'm having an annoying little problem with waking it up...usually after it left overnight wit the lid shut and the power left plugged in.
When i open the lid in the mornings, the screen is that translucent grey with the progress bar counting up at the bottom (like after a totally run-down battery scenario), which sometimes takss 20 seconds to complete, only then to go to the password entry screen only to be unresponsive for up to another 20 or 30 seconds.
Is anyone else having this issue? I don't remember this happening when i bought the machine running Mavericks.
i have to add, that it never seems to go thru this if the power cord is disconnected.
If anyone has had the issue and fixed it, please let us know
    All the best....
    Rx

    Hi Brett.
    Thanks for the link.
My thoughts, after visiting the link you posted, is that it's doing it due to the second instance described - regarding the European Energy Standards regulation.
It's strange tho that Apple would have to implement the safe-sleep function to a laptop of which was already asleep due to the lid being shut...mind-boggling!
I did power-management reset on my machine also, just in case, as It automatically shut down on me earlier whist showing 80% battery remaining, so perhaps there was an extra gremlin at play? I doubt it tho.
Either way...it's not a life-ruiner....just boring to have to keep waiting for my MPB to come to life.
    Cheers again....

  • Sleep wake problems with Yosemite update

I faced a multitude of issues with Yosemite 10.10. Following the 10.10.1 update, some of those were solved, but some still remained, namely those related to the Mail app, where mail server has to be selected manually. However, a new problem has arisen with the update: after going on sleep mode, the system does not wake, and needs to be rebooted. This happens every time, and makes me wonder about Apple's reliability, as it is starting to feel microsoft Vista like. Polishing the looks of the system is fine, bu doing so at the expense of performance, reliability and overall user experience is unacceptable. Looks as if a further update can not come soon enough.

  • Logic pro 9 problems with yosemite

I use a PreSonus Audio Box 22VSL audio interface to run my Logic 9 Pro studio and ever since I upgraded to Yosemite, it hasn't worked properly.  What's the problem?

Assuming you are running the v1.3 version of the PreSonus Drivers/firmware etc... (and if not, try them out to see if they help even though they are only certified for 10.9.4)
    http://www.presonus.com/support/downloads/AudioBox-22VSL
Then the problem is.. you didn't check to see if your 22VSL was compatible with Yosemite before you upgraded your OS X.....
Latest OS X & Logic Pro Compatibility Information
    Solution?
Roll back to your previous configuration using the backups that you made before upgrading... (You did make backups yes?)
    or...
Wait until PreSonus release updated drivers/firmware for their devices.... which may be a while yet based on their previous performance in doing so.

  • Several problems with Yosemite update on my iMac/27"/mid-2011, but first Preview won't work...

When I try to open a jpeg with Preview, I get an error message stating that I need to reopen Preview.  This doesn't help.  When I try to open Preview Preferences, nothing happens.  I have had multiple issues with Yosemite since upgrading just a few days ago.  This is just one of them.

    Quit Preview.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Remove the following.
    Containers/com.apple.Preview
    Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Saved Application State/com.apple.Preview.savedState
