Epson 740 Utilities

Hello,
I just received a new iBook with Tiger OS and my Epson 740 printer worked right away using the built in Tiger drivers. However, I see no way to access the Utilities for such things as cleaning the print heads. I went to the Epson support web site and see no drivers for OS-X there. I am fairly sure they use to be there as last summer I got the 740 in mint condition at a garage sale. I do not recall but would imagine that is where I got those drivers. I might add that the Utility feature is not available on the G5 using 10.3.9 either with the drivers I downloaded then. Any suggestions or a source to obtain the actual Epson driver that will give this capability would be greatly appreciated.

You must use the Epson-provided driver to use the utilities. The Epson-provided driver is listed as "Epson USB" in Printer Setup. On Tiger, click More Printers to get to the menu to select Epson USB.

  • Epson 740 wont install - not shown in USB drop down

Sorry to start a new thread here and I see this is an on-going problem. I have looked through masses of threads and think I have tried everything. To clarify; my old Epson 740 printer used to work fine, from my PB, until I stupidly wiped my hard disk and had re-instal everything. I have installed the Espon drivers from the OS X 10.4 install disk (optional installs). I get a drop-down for 'Epson USB' but no printers show in the list. I have tried deleting all drivers, both manually and using the Maxfixit PRINTER SETUP REPAIR, as advised here. However, nothing I do will make my printer show up in the drop-down from EPSON USB in the Printer Setup Utility
As said, I have looked here everywhere but it seems most people can see their printer in the drop down. Are there any other suggestions? I would give in and buy a new printer as this one is pretty old but I dont get the impression I'll be any better off. BTW, I have checked on the Epson site for latest drivers but the dont have any there for OS 10.4
    Thank you kindly in advance

Thank you for your help. It works. I can't even say what I did that finally work but I tried a different cable and did fresh uninstal/install too. Anyway, again, thank you very much for your help people : )

  • Epson Printer Drivers and Leopard - Epson 740 or Epson RX700 problems

It seems even after Epson updated their printer drivers Leopard will not all me to print to my Epson Stylus Color 740 AND my Epson RX700, I must choose one over the other.
If I install the printer drivers from Apple they include drivers for the old Epson Stylus Color 740 and it works fine. The problem is it kills my new Epson RX700 printer. It still works, but I cannot print CDs.
If I delete the Epson printer drivers from my Library folder and start over with the updated Epson RX700 drivers I can print to the RX700 including to CDs, but they do not offer an Epson Stylus Color 740 printer driver beyond system 9.
I have tried installing the newer Epson RX700 drivers over top of the Apple installation but the same result happens.
Can anybody help? I need the old drivers from Apple's system 10.5 installation disk so I can print to my old workhorse Epson 740 and my Apple 630 laser writer pro. But I also would like to print to CDs using my new RX700.

I have exactly the same problem...I have submitted a query to Epson...but we all know how good support is from companies like Epson and Apple

  • CS Epson 740 with Tiger

I've read the different options offered for my problem regarding not being able to get a Epson 740 to print in Tiger, and tried the fixes offered. No Luck.
IE. I found the Library/Printers/Epson/740 plug-in, so I know the plug-in is present in Tiger, but the Printer preferences do not allow me to "add" this plug-in. I can name it Epson Stylus 740 and high light it in the name option, but can't add under "more printers" - the option button is grayed out.
I down loaded Pacifist2.0.1, but had no idea what to do with it once it was opened. I downloaded gutenprint 5.0.1.U, but was scared off by the high tech "read me" file. Searched Google, but couldn't come up with any thing that would work.
Does anyone have any more options?
    Thanks Much,

    DDR G4 DP   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Run Printer Setup utility and click the "Add" button.
a "Printer Browser" window should appear with a
    small spinning gear.
Pulled up Printer setup utility>clicked the Add button> window came up called Printer Browser (saw small spinning gear looking for drivers), there was an "add" button and a "More Printers" button. The "add" button was grayed out. Clicked the "More Printers" button. At top of window were 2 pull down menus. 1. Apple Talk / Bluetooth / Windows Printing 2. Local Apple Talk Zone / Apple Talk Network and the following were both grayed out Default Zone and Recent Zones.
In the Printer Browser are listed two printers: Adobe PDF 7 and one I added by typing in, Epson 740 (connection) USB - nothing to do but click "cancel". Remaining window, Print Browser. I click "more printers" and same Printer Browser windows drops down. Dead End.
In Printer/Fax preference, I click on Epson 740 and a small window pops-up reading "Jobs Stopped". I click the "start" icon, and it reads, "No job printing." Basically, I keep going around in circles.
Does X have a preference file which I can delete and start over like in system 9? Have NO idea what the Adobe PDF 7 thing is all about.
    Any other hints?
    Patt
BTW, I took the other hard drive off that offered system 9, though I'd better start from scratch on this non-printing thing. This is a used G4, could there be a stop put on by a previous owner so no printing can take place without a password (or something)?

  • Epson 740 SSC utitlity program

I know I'm really snatching at straws, but here goes.
My research tells me, when the lights on the Epson 740 are all flashing, it's time to buy a new printer. However, if one is a PC user, there is a free download at <http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html> which, along with detailed instructions at <http://www.hm2k.com/posts/parts-inside-your-printer-are-at-the-end-of-their-se rvice-life>, one can physically fix the Epson. Though this "how to" link is talking about a Epson Stylus C46 UX printer, I'm thinking it's a basic fix for all Epsons.
*My question is, does anyone know if there is a SSC Utility program for Macs?*
It torked me off a bit when a person, on the Fix Your Own Printer forum, ask about a SSC Utility program for a Mac and was told, "No one makes anything for the mac. It's a pc world..."
Perhaps there's an answer to my question on this forum.
    Patt

One reason you are getting confused is because this printer was designed with a serial interface (used on pre-USB Macs) and a USB interface (used with current era Macs). The articles you have read regarding communications errors and Appletalk all refer to usage of this Mac via a serial connection and the older driver versions designed to support use of this printer via a serial interface. You should not be seeing these error messages at all if (a) this printer is cabled directly to your Mac mini with a computer-to-printer USB cable and (b) you are using the driver for this printer built into MacOS 10.4.
Epson.com doesn't list any OS X drivers for this printer, since the OS X drivers for the 740 have always been built into OS X and were not available for download from Epson's web site.
Both the "official" Epson driver for this printer as well as a Gimp-Print driver for this printer were built into MacOS 10.4, and should have been installed on your Mac mini. There should be no need to attempt to re-install these drivers.

  • Epson 740 question

I have used an Epson 740 for years, but recently the nozzles clog constantly and require many cleanings to print. I have used generic inks for a long time, but have never had this problem. My questions:
Is it time for a new printer, or is this a problem with the inks I am buying?
If the former, what color inkjet printer would you recommend?
If the latter, what ink would you recommend?
    Thanks.
    Chris

cfs, I have a 760, still in service. there are two things that may lead to this. Long periods of no or little use and certain generic refils (most are v good, some can cause problems with Epsons) You try a set of genuine Epsons (I know the expense!), to see if they can clear the system. Having said all of that, new printers really are cheap, the Epson C84 / 86 series is v good and not a lot to buy.
    hope this helps

  • Epson 740 won't print, 1280 prints fine

    I'm running a 15" 1.25 ghz G4 powerbook, OS 10.4.3:
I've reinstalled the drivers, rebooted, I've deleted the printer from the list and added it back in, I've tried the gimp print driver, I repaired disk permissions (there were a lot in need of help)...but nothing helps. I can send a file to print but jobs simply stop. I can use the printer utility to clean heads and check heads on the 740, I can also print to an Epson 1280. I've also printed successfully to the 740 from an iMac G5 and even dragged its Epson driver over to the G4.
I think the issue is in the G4 but I'm not sure where. Any pointers?
(this happened the same time as apple mail completely crashed warranting a com.apple.mail.plist removal and as my menu bar reorganizing itself).

    thanks DKR.
the 740 downloads at Epson i was able to find when I checked prior to starting this thread were for OS 10.2 and under. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. I made the assumption that Epson simply started bundling anything newer in subsequent iterations of OSX which led me to re-install drivers only from the OSX DVD I have....and that didn't work.
I'm at a loss on this...

  • Epson 740 Inkjet won't print from Epson Driver!

    Hi All,
I've just recently upgraded to Tiger, from Jaguar, and all was well...until today! My colour printer is an Epson Stylus 740 and it was printing perfectly yesterday but now the all jobs are "Stopped"!
If I click on "Start Jobs" the progress bar appears then, after a couple of seconds, vanishes and I'm back to "Jobs Stopped" with the file still in the print queue. That's it! No other indication of a fault or problem.
I have now configured the printer via Gimp Print (V5.0.0) and it works fine. So the printer is ok but I'd like to use the Epson driver as I'm used to it and know how to get the results I want.
If this was OS 9 I'd suspect a corrupted file in the spool folder but, even though I've used OS X for years, I don't even know if there still is a spool folder! I certainly can't find one.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    John

There are tons of posts on similar problems in this forum. Do a search for stopped jobs and you'll see. There are a lot of suggested fixes, it sounds like some work for some people and not for others. Also, although it sounds like it's usually Epson printers, it's not always. And it's all different models. I have an Epson Stylus CX6600. I haven't had a chance to try all the fixes yet, but one that did work for a couple months for me was this:
Before printing, go into your application's "Page setup" option and make sure that the "Format for" says your printer and not "Any printer." I'm not sure why this works but it's even on the Epson tech support website in their troubleshooter. You will have to do this for every application and it quit working for me after I updated to 10.4.5, but maybe it could be a temporary fix for you as well.
Please post if you come up with a more permanent solution!

  • Epson 2200 utilities have disappeared and paper does not cut correctly

Hi,Since I have upgraded to 10.6 my epson 2200 printer has not worked correctly .
The custom paper sizes are not recognized by the cutter and the entire roll exits the machine instead of cutting properly. I have been careful to select the cut after each print option and have double checked all of my size and print settings. I cannot find a utility anymore to clean the cutter head or to calibrate the paper. I had to use my powerbook g4 to get a utility to adjust the cutting settings. I need to have this printer work with all of its functions using snow leopard.
Epson has an old driver on its web site that says it is still compatible with OS 10.6.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

At least the print head cleaning can be done manually. Press and hold the middle silver button (ink drop logo) for at least 3 seconds and the machine will go through a cleaning cycle

  • HT3669 Hi! I just bought an old printer, an Epson stylus color 740 and my computer doesn't detect a driver to install it.

I tried with download.com and the drivers seem corrupted. And this model is listed on the apple website. Where can I find a reliable place to download this? I have a macbook pro.
    Thanks a lot everybody!!

Well. Peter Bannon is correct in that you can download the Epson drivers (although they're 1.05 GB in size). My previous suggestion was meant to just get the small portion of that 1.05 GB file that you need.
The "try later" usually means that Apple's update servers are temporarily down, and that often gets corrected within a few minutes.
    Restarting can never hurt.
Unfortunately, I think that you do need a specific driver for the Epson 740. I don't think you can use a "generic USB driver" (as you _can_ for many network printers).

  • Want to delete extra Epson drivers. What do I keep?

Hello, I have a printersaurus (as someone called it here) the Epson Stylus Color 740. I have looked at the Epson folder which has over 1.4 GB of driver information! This is a crazy amount of disk space wasted for one printer.
My question. I want to have this to be a lean installation and will only be printing with my Epson 740. Which files can I get away with copying, or rather which ones (other than obviously "SC740.plugin") do I have to keep to keep being able to print and used the utilities and help for this printer?
    Much appreciated.
    Thanks, Andrew.

The easiest thing to do, compared to deleting files one at a time and seeing if you can still print, is to copy the entire Epson folder to another location and then download the 740 from http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportLeopard.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes
and install that. Then, when you're sure you can print, you can delete the original Epson folder.
    Hope this helps.

  • After upgrading to mavericks my epson scanner v 600 does not work

After upgrading to Mavericks my scanner V600 epson does not work, I keep getting a message to re-install the software, but even then is does not work

I'm having the same issue. The scanning software doesn't launch, the scanner appears in system preferences after a few unplugs and plugins, and software update doesn't give me the recommended ICA update.
Also the Epson scan utilities aren't updated either and will be "released soon" according to here:

They recommend to use image capture (which is a joke) in the mean time or you could buy vuescan but thats not much better for some things.

  • Epson Stylus Photo 820 print workaround for OS 10.3.9?

    Howdy!
I have an Epson Stylus Photo 820 that I'm using under OS 10.3.9- that I can't seem to (directly) print to out of in most applications. It works fine in Safari and Entourage and Quark; but out of Photoshop, Illustrator; InDesign, Word, etc., there's no print option. I have to click Preview first and then am able to print. It doesn't work at all with Adobe Acrobat Pro 7 and one or two other apps. The driver I have installed is version 1.1.0 (I didn't see any updated drivers on the Epson page). The Print Manager sees it in the queue. It's checked and set as the default printer. Yet, I still have the headache.
Anyone else having similar problems? Is there a workaround?
Also- I kind of miss my printing options of my (long gone and MUCH better quality) Epson 740 under OS 9 where I could set the print quality level of the print out. Is there a similar option for the 820 under OS 10.3.9?
Thanks in advance for any help!

This is really frustrating that Epson will take your money and not support their product. No wonder they have a huge class action suit against them.

  • Problem with Print Settings- Epson Stylus CX4200

    Hi there,
I am having issues with my print settings. Firstly, when I run out of ink on a cartridges it just says "out of ink" and does not show the ink levels of the different colors. Therefore I need to replace all the colors as I do not know which one is low.
I also do not have the option for different print qualities (draft, best, etc..) to help save ink.
Both of these functions worked on my old computer, but do not show up here. I tried to re-install the printer driver from the Epson website, but it hasn't changed anything.
    Thanks for your help!

Did you try the Epson Utility that is installed with the driver? It should be accessible from the printer proxy, and it can also be launched from the /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/Utilities folder.
