Epson 740i drivers , Epson 740i drivers

My Epson 740i printer has locked up. The color and black cartridge red lights are flashing (indicates low ink level), along with the green power light. I've replaced both cartridges with new ones; same symptoms. In trying to diagnose the problem, I somehow lost my printer drivers as well. I've looked at the Epson site but only found drivers for newer versions of OS X (lion & snow leopard), but none for Tiger (OS 10.4.11), which is what I'm running. I've done the diagnostics suggested in the printer manual with no luck.
I have no idea where a corrupt file might be located in the printing process. If anyone understands where I might look for it, or if you have drivers for an Epson printer and Mac OS 10.4.11, please contact me.
My system:  eMac G4 1.42 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.11 Tiger, Epson Stylus 740i Printer.
Thank you!

OK, I added the Epson SC740 driver from the downloaded archive into Library>Printers>Epson folder and rebooted. Then I went into System Preferences to try and add the printer - no options show up. This is as the default printer BTW, (not on a network). I'm totally at my wits end. I cannot even get the printer to do a self-test, so it must be the printer right? The self test consists of pressing down the paper feed button and then powering up (with all USB cables detached). The manual says the printer should print its type and serial number. This test fails.
I fear that I will buy a new printer, hook it up, and have THE SAME PROBLEMS!! Is this a computer problem or a printer problem?? Obviously not a corrupted driver because we replaced that. But I have read many, many issues between Mac OS 10.4.11 and the Epson 740i. I did try Gimp Print, got pretty far, and then it would not let me add the printer at the very last step.
I'm stumped.

  • Deleted printer driver for (don't laugh) Epson 740i

I was having printer trouble and deleted my printer driver for my printersaurus, Epson Color Stylus 740i. I thought I'd be able to reload it but it seems to be gone from my system. I can't find anything at the Epson site supporting OS X, I am running 10.4.3. Can anyone help me find the printer driver?

If you have the install discs, you can use Pacifist (available from VersionTracker) to reinstall only the driver for the 740. Or you can leave out Pacifist and install all of the Epson drivers again.
    Hope this helps.

  • My Epson XP-710 Series, printer/scanner: I can see the drivers but not the software - where is it?

Just bought the above.  When I read the instructions, it tells me to go to Applications, and click on the software.  All I have in Applications is the driver.  I cannot see what Epson says I should  have, ie, colourful screens to use.  I downloaded the drivers from Apple, as Epson was !!!!!   Any ideas anyone?  Trying to scan an application form to see if I can fill-in as opposed to using my pen.  I can't even find out if I can do this.  Help.

    Hi Bratman91 and Greg
I am now losing my sanity over this darned machine.  I have now done as follows: 'EPSONPrintDriver2.18.dmg' for OS X Mavericks was downloaded from Apple.  I clicked on this in Downloads & then this led to 'EPSONPrinterDrivers.pkg' opening, which led on to installing the Epson Printer Software.  Apparently as per Epson and Apple I should not be having such a hard time.  Yes sure!  I gave up on the disc that came with the printer; Apple does say this though.  I did as described but to be honest printing and scanning does not have the look of WOW.  It all looks grey/brown and drab.  Epson web makes it look so wonderful and easy.  I may not have needed to download the 2 as described; any ideas?  Maybe just one would suffice?
Re: image capture.  I though this was from Epson, but apparently it is from Apple.  I use this icon to access scanning, but it is so laborious.  It takes a while after clicking the Epson icon within it, for scanning to start.  If this is the Apple option, can't I use the Epson option (if there is one).  I can go into Printers and Scanners in my mbp and I see the same.  Is image capture the same as scanning via Printers and Scanners?  So many Qs; sorry.
Any idea how I can print in draft?  This comes in handy sometimes, but when I do see the slider which looks likes I can move said slider, it won't ever slide to draft, no matter what type of paper I chose, eg, photo, plain paper etc.  Any ideas?  The opportunity exists with the slider, but it won't stay on drafts.  Thanks in anticipation of any further advice.  Helen

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee
    Cheers, Gerd

  • How can I install gutenprint drivers for my Epson Stylus Color 440?

    Good day all!
I have and old and useful printer -Epson Stylus Color 440- and just bougth a cable for connecting it to USB port. Add a new print on its Print and Scan Preference Panel and it was recognized inmediatly, but I was told there was not any driver to that printer.
Tried to set "Epson Stylus Color Series" on its driver but when I went to print, printer seemed to work but does not eject any ink. It seemed as if I were ran out of ink; its car moved over the places occupied by the photo and sounded as normal printing, but not a drop of ink. I checked on an older windows pc, and ink is full, printed normally. I also looked for its drivers on Epson pages, but it seems there are only available for previos Mac OSs, not for X.
A son told me that in his Snow Leopard MacBook White there's a dirver called "Epson Stylus Color 440 gutenprint" on his Print and Scan Driver Menu; haven't tried to print from his MacBook yet, and as I searched, those are open drivers.
I wonder if I can download and install that "Epson Stylus Color 440 gutenprint" from the web, of if there's a way to copy it from my son's Macbook, when he comes and check.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have downloaded all the Epson Printer Software but I cannot make the final step.

Well, I have this printer too, and I get the following response from the System Prefs Printers and Scanners when I select to add this printer:
"The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."
When you go to the Epson website for this particular printer it says:
"The latest drivers for this product are available only via Apple's Software Update."
And finally, when you go to Software Update it says: "No updates available"
    I second OMT8.
Yes, the driver file at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398 allowed me to finally install my printer, but does Apple have _any idea_ how long it takes to download a 1.08GB file over a 1.5mbps DSL connection?
Never mind how much of my pricey new SSD is being consumed by the resulting 1.80GB of driver files all for _one_ printer driver that should maybe occupy 200K?
Or that the primary article on OS X printer drivers (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669) -- which does indicate that the Artisan 830 is supported -- does not mention or link to the driver file that's needed to make it work?
Or what a complete violation of Apple's "it just works" gestalt it is to be confronted with the above Catch-22 and to have to search the web and then go through all of the above to make a new laptop talk to a two-year-old printer?
Yes, my printer now works, and yes, Apple's Support Communities were instrumental in getting to this point. But spending all morning (plus download time) getting a printer driver installed tastes way too much like I paid for Apple and got Microsquish.

Hi can anyone help me. I have a apple macbook laptop OSX 10.5.8 . When i push print, it shows my printer but says cannot communicate with printer. (epson stylus nx125). Do I need new drivers? Please help .  regards Cindy

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and do not speak for "Apple Inc."
Some basic printer troubleshooting steps before worrying about a printer driver:
    1. Have you tried turning the printer off and back on?
2A. Is the printer attached with a cable?
If yes, have you tried unplugging and re-plugging both ends of the printer cable?
If that does not help, can you test the printer with another cable?
2B. If your printer is not connected to the computer with a cable, have you tried restarting your printer (assuming wireless connection)?
Have you tried restarting your wireless router?
    3. Have you tried restarting your MacBook? (Be sure to save your work first.)
    4. Does the printer have ink? (Doesn't usually generate a 'communications error' though)
    5. Have you updated OS X or the program you're trying to print from recently?

  • Can't remove Gimp drivers to install new Epson driver

I just bought a new Photo printer (Epson Stylus Photo R1800.)
I go to add the printer in the Printer Setup Utility
click Add (The printer appears in the Printer Browser)
I select it; Then it wants me to select the driver from the list in the "Print Using" drop down.
The driver doesn't appear on the list.
I get a ESPON list but only the Gimp list.
ESPON tech support said these 'old' drivers may be conflicting with the new one.
SO, I try to delete old drivers. I delete ESPON folder from Library>Printers. RESTART.
    EPSON - Gimp still there.
SO, I also delete Gimp.pkg from Library>Receipts. RESTART
    EPSON - Gimp still there.
How do I get rid of these Gimp Epson drivers so I have a chance of loading the new drivers?
I have loaded the driver from the Epson CD 5 times and it doesn't show up anywhere.
    Any hints?

Shows you how much the Epson Tech Support people know...........
There is no conflict. You ADD using a different method - After clicking ADD, don't immediately accept the printer when it appears in the browser - instead, click More Printers, then select Epson USB or Epson Firewire, then select Format for: All. Now you are using the Epson driver instead of the Gimp-Print one. Deleting the Gimp-Print drivers won't change this procedure.

  • I have a fairly new 27" iMac running Mac OS10.6.7,  I'm trying to print to an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 via an in-house wireless network.  I have installed the latest Epson drivers.

I have a fairly new iMac running OS 10.6.7.  Im trying to print to an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 via an in-house wireless internet.  I have installed the latest drivers.  It was working a couple of months ago.  My wife is on the same network using a MacBook Pro and the same OS and is having no problem.

I have been using an Epson 3800 with my I Mac for four years and up untill I upgraded to OSX Lion the only problem I had was colour issues associated with some ICC profiles. After upgrading to Lion and downloading the latest OSX update (10th May) I could not print.
One of the problms was that the print settings continuously defaulted to:
    Page Setup: Sheet Feeder
Media Type: Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster
I would change the settings to what I wanted, I saved them selected Print. My printer promptly started changing from Matte ink (what I had set my print setting s for) to Photo Black.
After trying all i could to correct this. I finally gave up and rang the Epson Helpline. After 3 telephone calls over a day and a half during which I was talked through the procedure you described, the problems were still not resolved.
My contact on the Epson Helpline then tried to simulate the problem on his MAC. He discovered that he had the same problem the print settings would not save, albeit on a Epson 3880 driver. He then advised me that the problem was not with thw Epson Drivers it was a MAC/Apple problem.
I then rang the Apple Helpline (at £1.35 a minute) described the problem and was eventually put through to a supervisor. Who asked me to send her a set of screen shots describing the problem, This I have done, I have received an acknowledgement of receipt and have been advised that I should get a response within two working days.
    I am waiting hopefully.
I have tried to print both via CS5 and Aperture the problem is the same in both instances.

  • After upgrading to snow leopard my Epson printer drivers did not load and i get an error 'rasteroescpll failed'. I have tried reloading the driver to no effect. Can anyone help?

I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and at the end of the upgrade the printer drivers failed to load. I have since updated them myself (Epson BX305) but still get an eror message 'rasteroescpll failed'. can anyone help?
I have an Imac previously running 5.8.0 and now running 6.3.0.
    thank you
    Hugh

The current driver version is 8.67.
    Delete you printer.
    Delete the folder /Library/Prnters/EPSON
    Delete the folder /Library/Caches/Epson
Unplug your printer from your computer for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.  You should be prompted to download the new drivers.
If all that fails, you can get the new drivers from Apple at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398

Try using the pre installed Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Connect the scanner to your Mac whether Wi-Fi or USB.
    Launch Image Capture.
Click the very small black box bottom left side of the Image Capture window.
You'll see this pop up menu:   Connecting this (device) opens:
You can select a default app to scan (Image Capture) and select a folder from the Imort To pop up menu on the right to save scanned files to.

  • Leopard 10.5.1, Lightroom 1.3.1, Epson R1800 w/612a drivers

Okay - I have been beating my head against the wall for a while now and with the newly release drivers from Epson I HAD renewed hope that things would start printing correctly.
So, with above listed configuration I still am not getting correct prints using Premium Luster Paper and the Epson custom printer profiles.
If someone knows the magic touch to make it work I would love to hear the secret! So far I am keeping my Macbook running Tiger so that I can print - but it is really a pain and frustrating...
    Duane...

I have the "new" driver (that was just posted last week) installed and the prints that come out of Lightroom are still significantly darker than the results with Photoshop CS3. I have tried changing color profiles, paper profiles, etc. Hours of experimentation.
I understand the difference between the two programs and the different printer setups within each program, but I don't know what the "fix" is so that I can get good results. All I want to know is what driver will give good results for both programs and/or which color settings and profiles should be used.
I don't understand the technology issues anyways....I just want to hit "print" and get my results...like it used to be with 10.4.
OR...is it an issue with the R1800 printer?
Anybody else having any luck with this issue?
