Epson C86 won't print

I was running low on ink (both black and colors) in my C86, so I changed out all 4 cartridges yesterday. Now when I attempt to print, the printer goes through all the motions, but produces nothing but blank pages. I've cleaned the print heads several times, but still get nothing for output but blank paper.
The other posts I find on this subject suggest that if the printer is used infrequently the nozzles can clog and produce the symptoms I am getting. In my case, however, the printer's been used on a daily basis for the last year and a half, and was working fine until yesterday's cartridge replacement. (If cartridge expiration dates matter, the color cart's are good till late '07, the black until 12/06.)
Any ideas???
Thanks in advance, --Brian Abbott

Thanks for the suggestion.
I've since done some research on the web and discovered that many people have experienced the same problem. There's an extended discussion of the issues at www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/31764. For still under warranty printers, Epson generally seems to willing to ship a replacement. For the rest of us, there's a (time consuming) repair we can attempt.
BTW, it is also claimed that Epson has settled a class action lawsuit, and that most anyone who purchased an inkjet from them during the last 6-7 years can receive a $45 credit to the Epson E-store. See epsonsettlement.com
Thanks again, --Brian

  • Epson C86 won't print Black Economy Print Settings for Excel spreadsheet

    Epson C86
    MS Excel 2004 for Mac
    Version 11.5.5
When I try to print an Excel spreadsheet using the Epson C86 advanced printer setting of black economy, the C86 will not print economy, it prints standard black.
All other apps, such as MS Word, Safari, Mail, or Preview, the C86 will print black economy.
This is a matter of trying to save ink by printing in black economy.
    Any suggestions?

I'm having trouble with my Epson C86 also ... We have a Macbook Pro and IMac connected thru ethernet ... Both are now running Snow Leopard ... Sometimes they will print and sometimes not ... Sometimes economy and sometimes not ... We're not techs but we even tried setting up an IP address ... We need help ...
Anyway, I saw something mentioned about an "An updated driver was posted to the Apple Software Update on 12/15"... I'm not a tech ... Could you give me real specific directions on how to find and install that update ... My email is [email protected] ... I'm not even sure how to track this discussion or get back to it ... E-mail me directions please ...

  • Epson CX4800 Won't Print In OSX Mavericks

I just upgraded to Mavericks. Now my Epson CX4800 won't print. I donloaded the Epson Printer Software Update (2.17) through the App Store Updates. I can print test pages through the Epson Printer Utility 4, but when I try and print any document from multiple apllications, my Epson Printer Utility shows that the document is printing (blue & white striped line), but nothing happens. I have tried deleting and adding the printer, but that does not help.

Well I unistalled Gutenprint using their generic uninstaller. I tehn uninstalled the Epson drives, then downloaded the new ones and installed the, Same issue.
I received this from Epson - but it did not work either:
    Power off your product.
Open System Preferences and select Printers & Scanners.
Highlight the Epson printer and click on the "-" sign to delete the printer.
Click Delete Printer to confirm and close Printers & Scanners.
On your hard drive, select Library > Printers. Delete the Epson folder.
On your hard drive, select Library > Printers> PPD > Contents > Resources. Delete Epson Printer Name.gz
On your hard drive, select Library >  Cache and delete the Epson folder.
    Close the hard drive.
Restart your computer and power on the printer.
Go to the Epson support website.
Search for your product or select it from the list.
Select Macintosh under Drivers and Downloads.
Choose the printer or scanner driver for your system and click Download Now.
Once the download has completed, click on the file from your desktop to launch the installer.
Follow the directions to complete the installation.

  • Epson C88 Won't Print with Snow Leopard

C88 won't print using Snow Leopard. Downloaded driver from Epson doesn't help.????

Like you, I'm working with an Epson C-88+. Happy with this situation, would not be exactly accurate. I have tried some different approaches, including the ones from John and Kappy. They would work just fine for about 3 days, then fail. I even went back to the Snow Leopard Install DVD/ Optional Installs/ Options.MPKG/ Printer Support and made a choice. I then went to Disk First Aid and everything was fine. Today, I went to print 1 envelope, total dismal failure. I then downloaded the EPSON Printer Drivers 2.1, I proceeded to install the drivers. Did anybody notice, this was an Apple License, not an EPSON License? Therefore, there are no assurances, that these print drivers are in fact, EPSON. Therefore, AppleCare should be required to support these Print Drivers as Apple Licensed Products. But equally so, we as 'dumb endusers' must try to work with AppleCare to solve this issue. To "pete.purvis" John and Kappy, sorry, you guys have proven yourselves to be out of the "dumb endusers group, I just want to say, THANK YOU!

  • Epson r1800 won't print

I have recently changed to imac from pc. My epson r1800 printer was working perfectly but when switched to mac I no longer had access to the full list of printing options, including paper type, so downloaded latest epson drivers. now cannot print at all- printing is "stopped" due to filter error. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • HT4507 I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and my Epson R2880 won't print.  Epson Co. has been no help...Is there a driver for it? nothing shows up in Apple's Software Update. Thanks, Jeff

My Epson R2880 will not print after upgrading to mountain lion. Epson Co. will not help and I can't find an Apple software update.  Any thoughts?  Thanks, Jeff

  • Epson CX4800 won't print everything from Internet

I've had an Epson Stylus CX4800 working for me long before I got my iMac. Although it could possibly benefit from a mechanical tune-up, something is happening that seems more like a potential software issue to me.
Whenever I print a fairly large document off the Internet, I get only three pages worth of material. The first page may have a screen header, the third page is blank (or mostly so), and only the second page has any of the material I tried to print. Nothing but the second page of material will print accordingly, so I lose most of what I have on the screen. This happens only when I print off the Internet, whether from my Hotmail account or any other site. Documents in any offline application, such as Word or Adobe Reader, print as usual.
I don't see how this could be a mechanical issue. I feel it's in the drivers Apple issued last, since there's been little or nothing new from Epson for this model lately (except for an Image Capture scanner update). I haven't seen this behavior before in versions of 10.6 prior to now, so it might also have to do with the current version of the OS. I'd like an opinion or two as to what I should do to correct this.

Syd: Thanks for the info. I'm aware of the differences between browsers and web sites when it comes to printing. But I'm also aware that there may be a problem with the current driver. I printed a message from my Hotmail account yesterday from my parents' computer; they use an HP printer, and the entire message came out on one sheet of paper. I was using the same browser there as I do at my own place (the latest version of Firefox), with the same version of the OS (10.6.4), and the results were vastly different. That alone supports my supposition about the drivers on my computer.
I am considering reinstalling the last version of the driver produced directly by Epson. That might alleviate the problem, but I'm still not certain. I need further input before proceeding.

  • Epson 740 won't print, 1280 prints fine

    I'm running a 15" 1.25 ghz G4 powerbook, OS 10.4.3:
I've reinstalled the drivers, rebooted, I've deleted the printer from the list and added it back in, I've tried the gimp print driver, I repaired disk permissions (there were a lot in need of help)...but nothing helps. I can send a file to print but jobs simply stop. I can use the printer utility to clean heads and check heads on the 740, I can also print to an Epson 1280. I've also printed successfully to the 740 from an iMac G5 and even dragged its Epson driver over to the G4.
I think the issue is in the G4 but I'm not sure where. Any pointers?
(this happened the same time as apple mail completely crashed warranting a com.apple.mail.plist removal and as my menu bar reorganizing itself).

    thanks DKR.
the 740 downloads at Epson i was able to find when I checked prior to starting this thread were for OS 10.2 and under. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. I made the assumption that Epson simply started bundling anything newer in subsequent iterations of OSX which led me to re-install drivers only from the OSX DVD I have....and that didn't work.
I'm at a loss on this...

  • Epson 1400 won't print after Yosemite upgrade

I installed Yosemite and when I tried to print it says "printer not connected".  Even though the App store update showed it updated
I tried a variety of things and finally deleted all the Epson folders and unadded the printer.
Unfortunately nothing worked and now it wont even show the printer to add.
I am at a loss.  I really need to get stuff printed (brochure 11x17 stuff) and I can't get this too work.
I would appreciate any help with this.

Regarding you question.  The printer showed as usual on the Mac as ready to go but failed.  But then saw that no matter what I did it was showing as 'off line'. For me this isn't too unusual as I find that print jobs in a queue can be fouled when the only solution is to uninstall the printer and reinstall it or I have had to uncouple cables and unplug everything to start again that does the trick.  It can also be problematic when allowing the printer to 'sleep' and try to print and everything can go awry.  But this time I knew it was the Yosemite upgrade so spent several hours researching on the Internet to no avail.  Also it was the weekend so not able to ring when I would have telephoned epson who I know are very helpful.  I had already accepted some updates from Apple that day but later  saw yet another that was exactly what I needed - for epson running Yosemite.  I accepted it and within a few minutes the printer was  working perfectly.  But my first thought was could it be possible Apple has problems with epson only? - hardly likely.  Or does Apple know that I have an epson? - possibly but not likely to operate that way. So if you have an epson (or another name) you'd best check if there are updates waiting action and if not it could be on the way.  I tend towards impatience so wanted it fixed at once and would have contacted Apple but that's not as easy as one would think.
I hope the above is helpful but if you have more questions don't hesitate to put them to me.  I am far from expert and not had the Mac for long but do enjoy it and overcoming problems with the very helpful knowledgeable people of the community so much appreciated.
    Tony

  • Epson r2400 won't print - no driver in Software Update

Since I installed Mavericks the only driver that shows up when I add the printer is a third party "Gutenprint" driver that just doesn't work for squat. When I click software update there is no driver that shows up for Epson, even though Epson's website gives no direction on getting a driver except that you are supposed to do "Software Update" from the Apple menu. WHY are you using these junky third-party drivers? Has Epson not updated their driver for 10.9.2?

Says here your printer is currently supported:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#epson
You can download the latest here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398
Then after installing, try adding the printer again. If it doesn't find the driver, Reset the Printing System, then try again:

  • Epson CX7400 won't print on Intel iMac OSX (10.4.1)

I got a new printer when I purchased a MacBook with Leopard and setting it up to use on that computer worked just fine with a direct USB connection. When I installed the software on my iMac I cannot get it to work properly, either with Airport or a direct USB connection. I have tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling as well as going to the Epson site to download the latest updates. Whenever I try to Add this printer I do not see this particular model in the Epson Model list. As some on the discussion groups have suggested, I have tried choosing other drivers which use Gimp-Print v. 5.0.0-Beta2 but with no luck. I have gotten as far as getting the printer to run when I click Print, but it wants to keep printing either blank pages (more than the 1 page I have checked) or pages with gibberish on them--there is definitely a communication problem between the computer and the printer. How can I get the correct driver for this particular printer to appear in the printer list? Ideally I'd like to use it through my Airport network with my new MacBook, but even a direct USB connection would be good at this point. I have succeeded in getting a printer (Epson CX4200) to work through Airport on both computers--but of course that driver is on the printer list.

I followed the directions that were given above with no luck. I tried about 3 or 4 times, following the directions to the T. In my frustration, I got up to go grab a beer and when I cam back, the computer had recognized the new driver and now it works perfectly. The moral of this story is that patience is a virtue. All the previous times, I would go to the drop down list to see if the printer had been added to the list. All the while the little progress wheel was spinning away and was looking for the driver and I was to impatient to let it do its job. So if you have had no luck at all, then give it about 5 minutes to search for the driver. BTW, I am on a 700MHz G4 Emac with 512 Mb memory and it works like new.
