Epson cx4200

I have an ibook G4 and am trying to run an epson cx 4200. When purchased it worked but had some missing file from printer download. contacted epson got that resolved but now the laptop doesnt recognize the printer and it wont let me add it at all. The printer setup utility folder is no where to be found. All I can do is run test pages and align the nozzles. when I go to print a pic I have saved ion my hardrive it tells me no printers selected and it wont let me add it either. USB cable is good and all.getting very frutrared now. Want to print stuff. what do I do to hget things working?

There isn't a Printer Setup Utility folder, it is an applicaton in the Utilities folder.
If you can launch Printer Setup Utility, try the Reset Printing System menu item under the Printer Setup Utility menu before you try reinstalling anything. You can use the disks to reinstall, but that's usually the last step. You can use Pacifist to reinstall the printing system, that's probably the easiest solution after resetting the printing system.
Is there output in Console when you try to add a printer?

  • Installing epson cx4200

I purchased a Imac 17" intel core duo in late January with a epson stylus cx4200 all in one. I tried to install the printer & found the software on the cd did not work with the intel. I talked to epson & they said to wait & check in febuary for the new drivers. I have downloaded & installed the drivers 4 times & cannot get them to work. I reset the printer preferences & restart the computer then install the software. In the add printers screen it list the cx4200 but in the 3 boxes in the bottom the printe using box does not show the cx4200. I click more printers but don't see it in the list. I read that others have this printer & it is working. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Here's is what I got from Epson today on the CX4200 printer and scanner driver issue...I have not tried it yet but will walk through it this week. Kindof long but I hope it is useful.

Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.
To clear a mix of driver files and get only the latest Intel Duo Core
driver download installed and working properly, do the following:
    REMOVE FILES
    1. Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
    2. Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
    3. Double click on the PRINTERS folder.
    4. Drag the EPSON folder to the trash can.
    5. Close any open windows.
    6. Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
    7. Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
    8. Double click on the RECEIPTS folder.
    9. Delete any "Epson" receipts.
    10. Close all open windows and restart your computer.
    DOWNLOAD
If you have not done so already, use the following steps to obtain the
download for the new Intel Duo Core driver:
    1. Go to http://support.epson.com
    2. For a multifunction device, select All-in-Ones then Flatbed, then your
    all-in-one model.
    3. Under "Drivers and Downloads" select Macintosh.
    4. Download only the driver marked for the Intel Duo Core system:
Printer Driver v2.5a for PowerPC and v3.0aAs for Intel Core Duo
Macintosh Intel Core Duo with OS X (v10.4.4), Macintosh OS X (v10.2.x -
    10.4.x)
    epson11782.dmg - 11.9MB - posted on 02/23/06
This file contains the Epson Stylus CX4200 Printer Driver v2.5a for PowerPC
computers with OS X (v10.2.x - 10.4.x) and v3.0aAs for Intel Core Duo
computers with OS X (v10.4.x). This driver will auto detect PowerPC and
Intel Core Duo computers and install the appropriate driver.
    Installation instructions:
    1. Double-clicking this file creates an
    "epson11782cx42_printer_driver_ppc25amactel30aas" disk image on your
    desktop.
    2. Open this disk image and double-click the "Installer" icon to begin the
    installation.
    3. Enter password and follow prompts through install.
    4. Quit the installer and restart the Mac once the installation is
    complete.
Please try the following to add the printer once the new downloadable Intel
Duo Core driver has been downloaded and installed properly:
    1. Connect printer.
    2. Open Printer Setup Utility.
    3. Click ADD.
    4. Ensure you are on the Default Browser window.
    5. Highlight printer as it appears under Printer Name.
    6. For "Print Using" select "Epson Stylus CX4200 Series" if this
automatically appears on the list. If this does not appear, select OTHER
(not "Epson" - which links you to GIMP drivers, which we don't recommend or
    support).
    7. A new window opens where you can Browse to the hard drive location of:
HD > Library > Printers > Epson > Inkjet Printers
(This location contains all the Intel Duo Core Epson driver plugins, be
    they resident or downloaded.)
    8. Highlight/Select the plugin for your printer model in the Inkjet
    Printers folder, then click OPEN.
    9. Use the up/down arrows at the end of "Print Using" again to (re)select
the printer's name, which will now appear at the TOP of the "Print Using"
    list.
    10. Click ADD. The new downloaded driver will now be added on the list.
    11. If there are other printers on the list, ensure the Epson is made
    default before testing.
If you have any difficulties using the scanner portion, the following steps
will also help with a cleanout and custom reinstall of the Epson Scan
driver for the new Intel Duo Core:
To get the Epson Scan scanner driver running on the Intel Duo Core mac, a
complete cleanout and reinstall may be required.
    REMOVE EPSON SCANNER FILES
In this case we would recommend using the following steps to get a full
cleanout of all hidden files from earlier Epson Scan version(s) and a fresh
    install:
    UNINSTALL
Note: the files found will vary by OS and driver version. Not all files and
locations will be present. If one cannot be found, just skip to the next
item. If an "Epson Scan" or "Epson Scanner" named file is found in an
adjacent location, you can trash it. Do not remove any other "Epson" files.
    1. Go into HD, APPLICATIONS, UTILITIES and open ACTIVITY MONITOR. Highlight
the EPSON SCANNER MONITOR process and click STOP or QUIT PROCESS to FORCE
QUIT the process. Close ACTIVITY MONITOR.
In HD, APPLICATIONS - move EPSON SCAN and EPSON SCANNER MONITOR to the
    trash.
2a. In HD, LIBRARY, APPLICATION SUPPORT, EPSON - remove EPSON SCAN, if
present. Also check the contents of the Epson folder. Remove only files
inside it that are related to the scanner, for example "Epson USB Scanner"
    or "Epson FW scanner bundle".
2b. Check in HD, LIBRARY, APPLICATION SUPPORT. There may be other Epson
files. Any files to do with the Epson scanner name or Epson Scan you can
    remove from here.
    3. In HD, LIBRARY, APPLICATION SUPPORT, TWAIN*, TWAIN DATA SOURCES - remove
EPSON SCAN, if present, and any files bearing your scanner's name. (*The
Twain folder may not be present on all OS 10.4 Macs.)
4a. In HD, LIBRARY, IMAGE CAPTURE, TWAIN DATA SOURCES - remove any Epson
scanner-named ".ds" files, for example the bearing your scanner's name,
EPSON STYLUS or PERFECTION #### X.ds
4b. In HD, LIBRARY, IMAGE CAPTURE, DEVICES, remove EPSON SCANNER.DS, if
    present
(This is a generic resident scanner driver. Once the Epson scanner software
is working properly it will not be needed, so it can be deleted.)
    5. In HD, USERS, (YOUR USER NAME), LIBRARY, PREFERENCES - remove EPSON
(scanner name ####) PREFS, if present
    6. In HD, USERS, (YOUR USER NAME), LIBRARY, PREFERENCES, EPSON - remove
EPSON SCAN and EPSON SCANNERMONITOR PREFS, if present
Once the above files have been moved to the trash, you do not need to empty
the trash. Simply restart your Mac. You are ready to reinstall.
    DOWNLOAD
If you have not done so already, use the following steps to obtain the
download for the new Intel Duo Core driver:
    1. Go to http://support.epson.com
    2. For a multifunction device, select All-in-Ones, then Flatbed, then your
    all-in-one model.
    3. Under "Drivers and Downloads" select Macintosh.
    4. Download only the driver marked for the Intel Duo Core system:
TWAIN Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v2.77A
Macintosh Intel Core Duo with OS X (v10.4.4)
    epson11777.dmg - 21.6MB - posted on 02/13/06
    Installation instructions:
    1. Double-click this file to create an
    "epson11777twain_driver_and_epson_scan_utility277a" disk image on your
    desktop.
    2. Open the disk image.
    3. Double-click the "EPSON Scan Installer" icon to begin the installation.
    4. Enter password and follow prompts to install the driver. At the "Easy
Install" option, use the up/down arrows and select CUSTOM Install. Check
only your scanner model before clicking Install.
    5. After installation is complete, quit the installer and restart the Mac
    before testing.
To test this driver, do the following:
    1. Launch Epson Scan by going into your HARD DRIVE, APPLICATIONS, and EPSON
    SCAN.
    2. If prompted, select your scanner from the list of models and click OK.
    3. In the FILE SAVE SETTINGS window, you can designate the location, name
and type of file the scans will be saved as.
-LOCATION defaults to HD/USERS/(YOUR USER NAME)/PICTURES. Click CHOOSE if
    you wish to change this.
-PREFIX determines how the scan will be named. Type any name you like. You
can also designate a start number.
-FILE TYPE dicates what format the scans will be saved in. ie. .JPG, .TIFF,
    .PDF, or .PICT)
-For example: if the prefix is "img", the start number is "1", and the
format is "JPG", the name of the file saved in
    PICTURES will be "IMG001.JPG"
    4. Click OK once settings are changed as desired.
    5. The EPSON SCAN window will open and begin scanning in FULL AUTO MODE. In
FULL AUTO MODE the software makes all the decisions for you (as to what is
being scanned, where it is on the flatbed, etc). This is the easiest way to
    scan.
    6. If you want full control over the scanning process click PAUSE and
change FULL AUTO MODE to HOME MODE or PROFESSIONAL MODE. In the latter two
modes you can change your scan settings as desired. Click SCAN after you
have selected your settings. Click CLOSE once the EPSON SCAN is finished
    scanning.
    7. When scanning is complete, your images will be saved in the location
specified on FILE SAVE SETTINGS, with the prefix and in the format you set.

  • Printing to Epson CX4200

I just bought an new iMAC G5 with an Epson CX 4200. I plugged it in, the Mac recognized the printer and it prints great B&W. When I print in color however I get red and blue text in a seperate lines, almost mirrored on top of each other. Is it a print command issue or printer tech issue?

I got this same printer with my imac and as far as I remember documentation states that do not hookup the printer without first installing drivers from cd, after that part is done, restart with printer hooked up, than run printer utility and than start using it. I followed the instruction and so far I am impressed with print and specially scan quality considering 99 price tag.

  • Epson CX7400 won't print on Intel iMac OSX (10.4.1)

I got a new printer when I purchased a MacBook with Leopard and setting it up to use on that computer worked just fine with a direct USB connection. When I installed the software on my iMac I cannot get it to work properly, either with Airport or a direct USB connection. I have tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling as well as going to the Epson site to download the latest updates. Whenever I try to Add this printer I do not see this particular model in the Epson Model list. As some on the discussion groups have suggested, I have tried choosing other drivers which use Gimp-Print v. 5.0.0-Beta2 but with no luck. I have gotten as far as getting the printer to run when I click Print, but it wants to keep printing either blank pages (more than the 1 page I have checked) or pages with gibberish on them--there is definitely a communication problem between the computer and the printer. How can I get the correct driver for this particular printer to appear in the printer list? Ideally I'd like to use it through my Airport network with my new MacBook, but even a direct USB connection would be good at this point. I have succeeded in getting a printer (Epson CX4200) to work through Airport on both computers--but of course that driver is on the printer list.

I followed the directions that were given above with no luck. I tried about 3 or 4 times, following the directions to the T. In my frustration, I got up to go grab a beer and when I cam back, the computer had recognized the new driver and now it works perfectly. The moral of this story is that patience is a virtue. All the previous times, I would go to the drop down list to see if the printer had been added to the list. All the while the little progress wheel was spinning away and was looking for the driver and I was to impatient to let it do its job. So if you have had no luck at all, then give it about 5 minutes to search for the driver. BTW, I am on a 700MHz G4 Emac with 512 Mb memory and it works like new.

  • Epson printer needs help

This isn't a computer question, but I know there are smart people out there who might be able to help me. My less than 2 year old Epson CX4200 prints blank pages. Foolishly, I didn't use it very often, and used cheap ink. I've tried the nozzle check and head cleaning programs twice, but get only the very faintest image. Is there something I could clean or do to make it work. It has all new ink cartridges now. I probably damaged it, but I'm hoping there's something to do other than replacing it. Thanks so much!
    Kathy

    Kathy,
Here's some gouge that I've had bookmarked and used for some time. I've used it on 2 Epsons and it really works a treat, if you can find (or mix up) the right stuff.
    http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/articlepages/inkjetcleaning.html
Some added thoughts: (a) Cheap ink probably isn't all that bad as long as you're using the printer regularly; it might be more of a problem as your use decreases (b) the built-in head cleaning routines work fine, but are (again) best if you're using the printer fairly regularly. Once things get too dried out it may take multiple runs to see results. Also keep in mind that they do use up a lot of your ink.

  • This Is Going To Sound Kind Of Stupid ..... Epson Scanner Problems ??

I jgot frustrated when I could no longer use my Epson Perfection 1200 Scanner after upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.3.1 ... I tried everything, copying files from Time Machine Backups, to downloading all lkinds of silly software from Epson's Website. I did as they instructed, and it failed miserably. I downloaded the Printer Update from Apples website, the instructions showed my model's drivers were included. When I went loolking after the Installl, if they were installed, I sure would like to know where. I was seriously thinking I was going to have to cave in and just fork out more money for more harware throwing out what used to be a perfectly good piece of computer equipment for my needs.
I finally went thru the tons and tons of computer software install discs I have for all of the equipment I've bought over the years, making a complete disaster area all along one side of my home office. I came across the CD Installer for my Epson CX4200 All In One Printer/Fax/Scanner.
It was for version OSX 10.2 & 10.3 ..... I figured I had nothing to lose so I installed it. With this
Installation comes an application called PhotoImpression which I checked off toi Install as well.
Well, to my wonderous delight, It worked! If I open up PhotoImpressions when I want to scan, It has a feature that allows you to choose where you want to :"Grab" your photo, document or whatever from, giving me the option to either choose the CX4200 Scanner, Or the Perfection 1200 Scanner.
Oh Joy Oh Joy .... If you have any old Installation Disks hanging around, you just might wan't to give it a try.
    Steve

    Hmm, well that's a non-sequitar.
You are aware that PhotoImpressions is obsolete? It is not a universal binary and requires using Rosetta to run. Maybe you should consider finding a suitable replacement for it. I'm not even sure how old the product is, and i doubt Epson still bundles it with its scanners.
As I suggested before you might consider using VueScan as a replacement for the scanning application. There are plenty of good image editors that are freeware - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
    You're not running 10.3 anymore.

  • Light Color Text When Using My Epson

For some reason, when I print on my Epson CX4200 the text is very light. This is especially problematic when printing pages documents. The text is ligh grey and hard to read. How do I print black text?
NOTE: Other than text, the printng seems to be fine.

I don't want to put words in the mouth of others but I believe (hope) spacesuiter was suggesting that you use the Black setting only for the trouble shooting purpose of determining whether that would cause the printer to render pure black. You should otherwise only have to select that setting if you have a color doc that you *do not* want to print in color.

  • Unable to Print - OS Problem?

Epson CX4200, connected via USB, has all of a sudden simply refused to print. This occurred absent any other system mods or actions or indications at all. All jobs are stopped immediately and cannot be re-started. Jobs can be added to and deleted from the queue, and can be re-started but then immediately stop. Dock symbol shows expected red !, which is also mirrored in the Print Dialogue when present. On attempts to print the printer has no reaction whatsoever and the job is stopped very quickly.
    Troubleshooting so far:
    a. Tried from different apps and different User accounts — same results.
    b. Logged out, logged out to Restart, powered down the printer and back on, removed and reinserted USB cables, tried most permutations and combinations of the above — same results.
    c. Several iterations of removing & reinstalling the printer using Printer Setup Utility — same.
    d. All other, e.g., non-printing functions of the Epson (copy, scan, self test, etc.) continue to work just fine.
Ran Printer Setup Repair and printer/system passed all checks done with the exception on one file found to be missing. Partial text of their error message is as follows:
.. Starting permission verification and repair... The file /private/etc/cups/ppds.dat is missing. This file is deleted when using the Reset Printing System option. .. Recreating symbolic links... .. Done. ... Verification complete. ... 2456 files examined. No problems were found.
1 missing files/directories found during the verification process. They may be responsible for certain printing problems. Printer Setup Repair cannot replace these items. Please refer to the log file for a list of the missing files/directories. You may need to reinstall OS X to resolve your printing issues. Certain files and directories are deleted when using the Reset Printing System option. These files and directories, if required, will be recreated during normal printing.
I have no idea what that ppds.dat file is or does, but it does seem that they were telling the truth when saying that they couldn't create a new one. I certainly tried every option in that program that seemed like it might do, including total resets and reinstalls of everything, and the situation is unchanged.
The $64K Q appears to be — Am I really left with an OS reinstall? And, if so, what would be the best way to go about that?
Realize that this is sort of a broad question to end with, but would really appreaciate any inputs of assistance.

No, this isn't app-specific; it does the same thing and shows the same symptoms in all apps.
The CUPS log (appended) shows the error occuring, or at least I assume that's what the E displays are indicating. I've no clue as to what an 85 code might be, and don't know how to use the 'debug' setting that they keep recommending.
Does this make any sense to anyone else? I just pulled a few of the last tries off of the end of the log display —

  • Having trouble printing from remote computer

I have an Epson CX4200 connected directly to an iMac G5 running OS 10.5. I access the internet wireless through a router. When I was running 10.4 on the iMac G5, I was able to print via printer sharing from my iMac running 10.3.9 without a hitch. After installing the new OS onto the G5, I choose "print" from the file menu on the older iMac, select the Epson CX4200 from the shared printer drop down menu (it's the only one in the house) and click "print". It looks like the data is spooling to the printer and the printer icon appears in the dock. Then nothing. I go to the iMac G5 and open the printer window. NOthing has been sent. I can't understand why these two operating systems cannot communicate with each other. I am not able to install 10.4 onto the older iMac. When I insert the disc, it just pops it back out. Don't know why that is but I thought if I installed the 10.4 onto the older iMac, that would solve the printer sharing issues. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try?

Okay, so I tried your suggestion and no luck! I also tried every other scenario that the computers allow and nothing. When I went to add a printer, the rendezvous popped up and my printer that is connected to the iMac G5 showed up. If I just choose that and don't select a printer model, just generic, nothing happens when I try to send the job. A printer dialogue box shows something for a split second then returns to "no job printing". However when I choose the printer in rendezvous and then Epson down below, my printer doesn't appear in the list of models. So I chose one that was close and I ended up seeing something happeneing in the printer dialogue box. It says it's connecting to the ip address of my iMac at port 631, but it just spools endlessly and never sends the job.
Do you have any other suggestions or does anyone? There has got to be a way. I can't imagine that Apple would deny people access to a shared printer on their own home network just because the two computers were using different versions of OS X.

  • PDFs created from Save As PDF when Printing?

I a m working in QuarkXPress 6.5, creating a business card using PMS colors and CMYK tifs. When I "Save As a PDF…" from the Print dialog box, I think everything is okay. Then I send it to a printing company and they double-check the image and say it is a RGB, not CMYK, And also, the fonts print as outlines, causing the characters to spread. They are using a PC & Adobe Acrobat to check the files. I need help — fast!!
Mac Intel Duo Core Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   printers are Epson CX4200 & HP 5000

    Hi JackieDesigns2,
I always tell people to make the PDF with the end result in mind. If you're wanting to "print" the PDF, then make the PDF CMYK and not RGB. This goes for sending the resulting PDF to another printer or whatever.
Here's a link to help you with the settings:
    http://www.aapg.org/advertise/AAPGPDFSettings.pdf
The PDF X-1a specification forces all fonts to embedd, CMYK color space, no ICC profiles, no transparency and some other little goodies made for printing everyone can go by.
I will say that while many applications have their own why to "make" a PDF, the best, most consistant method is to make a postscript file and distill the postscript file.
Keep in mind that programs that write postscript, write (or speak) postscript with different dialect's so-to-speak. Some interpeters can understand the common dialect where it cannot understand others. This is why some app's are more problematic than others in making good postscript.
Quark writes fairly clean postscript (or used to), distilling your files from Quark should work well.

  • Applework will not open, printer error

When I try to open Appleworks, I get the following error. "AppleWorks could not be launched because of a shared library error "<Appleworks><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_PrintCores>"" This error just happened without making any adjustments to the computer. Prior to this error, the application (Safari, Appleworks, etc.) would unexpectedly quit when you tried to print. That problem also remains. I have an EPSON CX4200 that I bought with the computer.
    Any suggestions would be great.

    2. Trash the AppleWorks folder in your Home -> Library -> Preferences folder along with the com.apple.plist file. (Don't trash the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bar.)
I suspect you have reached the system's preferences folder rather than your own. OS X maintains a set of preferences for its own use, and a set for each User account.
In the Finder (and with AppleWorks NOT running), open a new finder window (command-N), then:
•Click the Home icon with your name beside it.
•Click the Library folder in the list that apears in the next column.
•Click the Preferences folder that appears in the next column.
•Drag the AppleWorks folder in the next column to the Trash.*

    3. Use the first aid utility to repair permissions on your hard drive (it's recommended that you run this more than once.
The 'first aid utility' is called Disk Utility. You'll find it in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, but it's probably easier to click the blue Spotlight icon at the right end of the menu bar, then type in "disk utility" (without the quotes). Double click the icon (it will show as the Top Hit) to run the utility, then click the First Aid button in the window that opens, then Repair Permission in the next window. As noted in the User Tips post, it's recommended that Repair Permissions be run more than once (until it reports that Permissions are OK or that no permissions were repaired).

  • Can't print now with Leopard w/iMac but can with MacBook&PowerBook

This is my 3rd upgrade (iMac) to Leopard. First two were on MacBook & PowerBook and printing on Epson C88 via AEBS works both remote and via USB.. Now iMac does not print to C88 attached to AEBS nor to Epson CX4200 attached by USB to iMac. Tried downloading new drivers from Epson. Even down loaded Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta2 forEpson Inkjet Printers. But not successful in getting printing from iMac. For C88 keep getting "Printer is currently off-line" and no printing. For CX4200 sometimes get printing and sometimes get blank page. Tried to delete printers in Preferences-Print&Fax. After hi lighting each printer got drop down asking if I wanted to delete printer but when OK clicked on printer does not get delete but stays listed in Printers panel. Any suggestions of how to solve this problem. would be welcome.

    No problem!
I would recommend repairing the disk permissions on your computer by following this Apple document here. Once this is complete, make sure your Apple updates are complete by following this Apple document here.
Now, I would reset the printing system on your computer. Please follow this Apple document here. If your USB connection isn't responding correctly, then follow this Apple document on USB: Troubleshooting Error Messages. I will be looking forward to hearing from you again!

  • How do I intergrate my AE w/ my Belkin wireless router?

My problem is I want to use my AE to make my printer wireless, but I don't want to have 2 network names. I have a Belking wireless router that gives me a stronger signal in my house, so i'd like to just stay on that network and use the AE to make my printer wireless. As it is, if i want to print I need to switch my network name to my AE in order to print and the signal strength is weak. So, I'd like to make it work so that I can remain on my Belkin network and just print from there. I hope this is clear.
My printer is an Epson CX4200 (all-in-one printer). Will connecting to an AE allow me to scan wirelessly? If not, if i connect it directly to my iMac, is there away to also make it wireless for my powerbook so i can just print??
    Powerbook 15 Titanium 1 ghz, iMac G5 20" 2.1 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

The method of connection has more options on certain Belkin models, which do you have?
You can set up the AX as a client to any wireless router to get a compatible printer to work on the AX usb port. You can also get the printer to work if the AZ is connected to an existing router using ethernet, and the AZ DHCP server is disabled.
You will not be able to do anything but print from an AOI device.

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295 will answer most questions about moving to a 2006 or later Macs.
All newer Macs have built-in 802.11n WiFi starting in 2007.
Office 2008 is not the latest, Office 2011 is newer.   http://www.neooffice.org/ and http://www.openoffice.org are free alternatives if upgrading to Office 2011 is found to be needed for certain things and you can't afford the upgrade right away.  Several mobile phone options are available for Macs depending on which operating system you get.  Check with your carrier.
If you buy new, all new Macs carry 10.8.3 or 10.8.4 minimum, as 10.8.4 was just released, where 10.8.3 was released back in March.  iPads are not Macs, and come with some version of iOS 6.
Compatible software is listed on Roaring Apps when it comes MacBook Air, and Mac Mini. iPads use a different operating system, and have a different App store.  Mac Mini has no stand alone power.  MacBook Air and iPad have built-in batteries that can operate stand alone or plugged into the wall.  The batteries are not easy for end users to remove under warranty.  MacBook Air can take any screen that can adapt to DVI, HDMI, or Displayport, and so can Mac Mini.  VGA displays are too low in resolution.   While there are adapters for iPads, they aren't able to support as high a resolution for external display.

  • Scanner/printer Recommendations

Any recommendations for a decent scanner / printer (all-in-one unit)?
I'm looking to replace one in my home office. Will hardwire it to the Time Capsule. Needs to work with Adobe CS3.
Fax capabilities would be a big plus, (I have a small office, one less machine would be great.)
For fun, let's keep price out of the equation - the sky's the limit.

    Hi Beach-Comber
If I was to replace my 4 year old Epson CX4200 that's printed thousands of great photos, it would definitely be with another Epson all-in-one product.
