Epson CX6400

I have my Epson CX6400 hooked up to a D-link DRP 1260 print server. I can print via the print server, but when I print via the print server using iphoto 08 I get a red hue on some of the pictures. When I print via USB connected to my Macbook (10.4.11) everything prints out perfectly. When I have my Macbook plugged in via USB the Epson CX6400 driver is automatically selected. I have tried to manually select the print driver when the Epson CX6400 is connected to the D-link DRP 1260 print server to no avail. When the Epson CX6400 is connected to the print server all I can select is the
Epson Stylus CX 6400Gimp -Print-v5.0.0-beta2 Can someone help me with this?
I have installed the latest Epson CX6400 print driver.
Thanks

Worked when I updated Airport software and reconfigured Airport Base Stations. Had a flaky connection.

I couldn't print using my Epson CX6400 on airport. I've now followed the tips here and can print directly connected by reinserting my Leopard Install DVD - clicking Options - loading all printer optional drivers. Now my Epson auto selects the Gutenprint V.5 1.3 as my driver. I've successfully printed. Trying to download the new print driver from Epson (30 aas) would not open on my Power PC. I could not find a PowerPC specific driver.
Is this everyone's best option - or do I was I missing something? The Gutenprint dates back to 2003 - so I'm curious.

  • Epson CX6400 driver for Leopard?

How can I get my Epson CX6400 to use an Epson driver in Leopard?
The Printer Features/Presets are not active in Gutenprint.
The CX6400 worked fine in Tiger. I installed Leopard as Archive with Preserve Users. I customized for Epson printers only.
After the install, the CX6400 could not print.
I downloaded and installed current Epson software, but CX6400 did not appear in the driver list.
Apple says Leopard uses Gutenprint V.5.1.3 so I downloaded current Gutenprint software, and reset the printer.
It prints, but no access to presets.

There have been many reports of printing problems after doing an Archive and Install of Leopard. Try resetting the printing system. Open System Prefereces -> Print & Fax. Control-click (right-click) in the white box where the printers are listed. You will see an option to reset the printing system.
After you reset the printing system, you will have to add your printer again. There should be no problems with accessing all the features of the Gutenprint drivers. There is one problem with the Epson Gutenprint drivers in Leopard. You will have to manually select the Resolution you want to print at. Selecting the *Print Quality* (eg Standard, Draft, High) does not work. It will always print in the Economy mode if you do not manually select the Resolution. You can make a Preset for the resolution you want to use most often.
I downloaded and installed current Epson software, but CX6400 did not appear in the driver list.
The Epson support page for Leopard does show a download for drivers for the CX6400. It indicates that it is compatible with PowerPC Macs. You have an Intel Mac, so I think their drivers will not work on your computer.

  • HELP ME PLEASE!! Why doesn't my Epson CX6400 Driver install?

My printer quit printing last week.It still works because I tested it with my husband's laptop.I have downloaded a new driver from the Epson website and it does not install,it asks me for my password.I am the administrator and it says"this software needs administrative rights or higher" or something to that effect, anyway since it does not work with my password, THE only password I have,I tried changing it with the install cd 1 and after I changed both my password and the root administrator password,it still does not install, not even when I try to install the driver with the original CX6400 software cd.HELP!!!!!!I have already paid Apple support $49.99 and they cant seem to help because they say its an Epson issue and Epson support(REALLY NICE,compared to the snots at Apple!) says its an Apple issue......HELP ME,PLEASE!!!!!

    Hi Maclapa!
Do you have more than one account on the Mac?
Are you sure that you are logged in with an Admin account?
    Have you run Repair Permissions?
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP until the only message it reports is:
"We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/cd9660.util.
    New permissions are 33261"
This is a status message and not a cause for concern. You may safely ignore it.
    Or these:
"We are using a special uid for the file or directory ./private/var/at/jobs. New uid is 1"
"We are using a special uid for the file or directory ./private/var/at/spool. New uid is 1"
Again, these are status messages, which appeared after Security Update 2005-001.
There may be others that you can ignore. Complete list at link below.

  • Scanner Epson 3170

Installed Leopard on two machines these days: PB 12" and G5 Dual 1.8, specs below.
My observation and problem: Everything worked fine on the Powerbook, but looking at my G5:
System Profiler does see the scanner, but neither
Digital images: Sees it, but does not recognize it usable
    Silverfast: Does not see it
Most recent drivers of Epson, including Epson Scan: Program starts to boot and then stops without even an error message.
Digital Images does recognize a Brother Scan/Fax unit which is attached, too.
To make sure my problem does not relate to some corrupted files carried over from Tiger, I erased and reformatted another drive I have and installed a "naked", i.e. only Apple software system disk. Again here, the machine would no longer let programs get to the scanner. Epson software with the same symptoms.
Any clues from anyone, would appreciate!

I had a problem scanning with my all in one Epson CX6400 way back in January 2006. I just recently purchased an Epson V200 Photo scanner and discovered the scanning software would quit when run.
I remembered the problem with the CX6400 and managed to find the solution I used back then (luckily I had saved the solution to a file and found it using Spotlight).
As someone elsewhere suggested, you need to unistall the scanning software. The specifics of what to get rid of though were not specified. What follows is exactly what I did, and it worked. I can't recall when I got this solution from or I would give proper attribution.
To completely uninstall the scanner software please follow the steps
    below.
    UNINSTALL
To ensure that all Epson Scan files have been removed from the
system you would need to check for the following items in the Hard Drive. Pleasenote: Not all files and locations will be present. If you do not find one of the items listed, please continue on with the next step.
    1. In HD (Hard Drive), APPLICATIONS - remove EPSON SCAN and
    EPSON SCANNER MONITOR, if present
NOTE: If you receive an error that EPSON SCANNER MONITOR cannot
be deleted because it is in use, go into HD, APPLICATIONS, UTILITIES and open ACTIVITY MONITOR. Highlight the EPSON SCANNER MONITOR process and click on QUIT PROCESS to quit the process. Close ACTIVITY MONITOR. You can now go back into the APPLICATIONS folder and delete EPSON SCANNER MONITOR.
    2. In HD, LIBRARY, APPLICATION SUPPORT - remove the EPSON SCANNER MODULE folder.
    3. In HD, LIBRARY, IMAGE CAPTURE, TWAIN DATA SOURCES - remove the ".ds"
    file bearing your scanner's name.
    4. In HD, USERS, (YOUR USER NAME), LIBRARY, PREFERENCES - Open
the EPSON folder and then delete the EPSON SCAN folder.
    REINSTALL
Once the removal is complete, restart your computer. After the
restart, follow the steps below to download and install the most current Epson Scan driver:
Please note: You will require Stuffit to install the Epson Scan software.
Stuffit is not installed by default on Tiger. If you are not able to install the software, please visit http://www.stuffit.com/mac/index.html to
    download and install Stuffit.
    1. Go to www.epson.com and select North America and then USA.
    2. Click on DRIVERS AND SUPPORT, select your appropriate product
category and then select your product.
    3. Select on MACINTOSH under DRIVERS AND DOWNLOADS and select
the most current version of the EPSON SCAN. Click on DOWNLOAD NOW,
respond to the question, and ACCEPT the licence agreement. The download will now begin.
    4. Once the download is complete you will see a EPSONXXXX.SEA.HQX
(XXXX indicates the numbers you will see). Doubleclick on this, and it will
begin expanding the file and then place a EPSONXXXX.SEA icon on your
    desktop.
    5. Double click on this and click on CONTINUE and CONTINUE again. An installation will begin, and once it is finished, click on OK.
    6. You will now see a folder on your DESKTOP labeled EPSONXXXX. Open this folder and double click on the EPSON SCAN INSTALLER. Enter your system password when prompted.
    7. Once the EPSON SCAN INSTALLER screen appears, click on the dropdown
arrow beside EASY INSTALL and then select CUSTOM INSTALL.
    8. Select only the scanner that you are installing, and then click on
INSTALL. Once the install is finished, click on QUIT.
NOTE: THE FOLLOWING IS FROM THE ORIGINAL STEPS. I HAD TO USE IMAGE CAPTURE FOR THE SCANNER TO WORK
To use the Epson Scan, please follow the steps below:
    1. Launch Epson Scan by going into your HARD DRIVE, APPLICATIONS,
    and EPSON SCAN.
    2. If prompted, select your scanner from the list of models and click OK.
    3. In the FILE SAVE SETTINGS window, you can designate the location,
name and type of file the scans will be saved as.
-LOCATION defaults to HD/USERS/(YOUR USER NAME)/PICTURES.
Click CHOOSE if you wish to change this.
-PREFIX determines how the scan will be named. Type any name you
like. You can also designate a start number.
-FILE TYPE dictates what format the scans will be saved in. ie. .JPG,
    .TIFF, .PDF, or .PICT)

  • Printing in Classic

    I have a G4/350 w/ OS10.3.9 and an Epson CX6400 printer/Scanner.
I have no problem printing in OS 10 or in OS 9. However when trying to print an OS 9 app in Classic I can only print to a PDF and then print from that.
Also, I cannot Scan in Classic.
The problem seems to be when I go to the chooser and select the CX6400 it does not see the USB Port. Is there anyway to correct this problem?
It's a real pain to have to change OS just to scan orto print something that does not print properly in a PDF.
    Thanks

Did you load the OS9 printing and scanning software?
If you did not, check at Epsons website, they show software for printing and scanning on OS9 and OS10.

  • Image Capture, upon opening, always reads "No camera or scanner selected" (and the scanner doesn't scan.  Why?).

"Image Capture" application, upon opening, always reads "No camera or scanner selected."  Scanner does not scan (HP C4680, All-in-one type).  Mine is a Mac OS X (Snow Leopard 10.6.7).  All connections seem fine.  What's wrong?  Am decidedly NOT a "techie" and this is first computer ever owned by enquirer. Thank you.

    Some additional thoughts.
Does the Preferences have the option to open the Scanner window ticked ?
Does the Scanner appear in the Browse Menu when you Browse for Devices ?
My Epson CX6400 which is of some age now does not show Scanner Ablities in th System Profiler for OS X 10.5.8
The Printer part uses the OS X installed Cups + Gutenprint driver.
I have also installed the Epson stuff that came on the CD which I am sure installed a Twain Driver for the scanner part.
It seems this is what the Browse info tells me is being used.
In Hard Drive/Library/Image Capture/Devices the Epson Scanner.app has been added.
In the same Image Capture folder a Twain Data Source folder is also present and the Scanner .ds file is in there.

  • Losing my patience with install of iPhoto

I have tried all of the suggestions in the discussion in regards to getting iPhoto to print. Nothing works. I have reinstalled this program for the 4th time and am still not able to print. I can click the button but nothing happens. Running a G4 mirrored door mac 1.25 dual. Printing to an Epson CX6400 printer with gimp print installed. Does anyone have any suggestions before I just fling the disc out the window?

    Handybear:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you run the latest security update released by Apple? If so did the printing issue begin after that? It seems that the security update messed with printing and there's a fix for it. If that's the case see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6860519&#6860519.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Possible solution for Windows printing - Incorrect permissions

We have an Epson CX6400 all-in-one printer attached via USB to a Mac.
The printer works fine after having to reinstall most of the print subsystem and drivers when upgrading from OS X 10.3 to 10.4.
We also have some Windows XP and Linux computers.
I'm using Bonjour for Windows XP to print, and prior to 10.3.9, it was working correctly. After subsequent upgrades, printing from OS X would work fine, but not from Windows.
Bonjour configures IPP printing using a generic Postcript driver that in term Mac OS X processes locally using the actual printer driver.
When printing from Windows, the printer queue would stop and I would have to manually delete the print job and restart the queue, before I could print anything.
Trying to figure it out, I checked /var/log/cups/error.log, and I'd invariably see the following when trying to print from Windows XP:
    I [31/Jan/2006:22:49:56 -0500] Started filter /usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstopdffilter (PID 15403) for job 119.
    I [31/Jan/2006:22:49:56 -0500] Started filter /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr (PID 15404) for job 119.
    E [31/Jan/2006:22:49:56 -0500] PID 15403 stopped with status 1!
when running /usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstopdffilter manually from the console with what I thought would be the proper command (from the terminal, as root), it didn't die on me, and would rather show me debug information about the fonts being used on the intended document.
    Solution:
(Note: I don't work for Apple and this can potentially create security issues, but it works as intended otherwise).
Using the console, go to /usr/libexec/cups/filter, as follows ($ is the prompt, type AFTER the prompt):
    $ cd /usr/libexec/cups/filter
    $ sudo chmod +s pstopdffilter
Sudo will ask for your password to temporarily gain root access.
This executable (pstopdffilter) is owned by root, so the command "chmod +s" makes the process running this command to run as root instead of whatever user process invokes it.
It shouldn't have to be run as root. Possibly the file/directory where it needs to write to has incorrect permissions.
Again, running these processes as root is not a good idea, and a malformed PS file might make it crash and possibly exploit something else. It's unlikely that this will happen, but just be warned.

  • Image Capture Doesn't Always Scan

I have an Epson 810 printer/scanner.  I use Image Capture on my MacBook to scan documents from it.  It's weird but most of the time it scans just fine but once in a blue moon, it will recognize the scanner in "Devices" but it will not scan the document.  If I wait a couple of days, it will be alright magically.  What could possible be causing this?  Here is what I get when it's not working:

My main printer is Epson Color Stylus 800. It wouldn't print color so I tried using an Epson CX6400 and loaded its software on my hard drive. I couldn't use either printer so I removed all CX6400 folder/files, reloaded my Stylus 800 software off the original CD and continue to get this message, "Can't find the SC800 printer driver. • Can't Scan since Tiger!

I have an Epson CX6400 multifunction printer that worked great until now. I can't scan with Epson scan or Image capture. I tried advice in this forum, namely uninstalling and reinstalling- to no avail. I downloaded a demo version of VueScan which works wonderfully well, but I hate to spend $50 to be able to scan again, if there's another way. Any help would really be appreciated!! thanks!

Have you checked the Epson site for an updated driver? Is the problem with scanning only, or printing as well? Assuming you have EpsonScan software, can you launch it directly? You might also email Epson & see what they suggest.
In the meantime, if you have Word, try going to Insert>Picture>From Scanner or Camera to see if the unit is recognized.

  • No Printer Set Up Utility

I just changed from an iMac with OS X 10.2 to an eMac with 10.4.1. I am having problems with my Epson CX6400. It will scan and copy but will not print. I have downloaded a new driver and the installation instructions say to open Printer Set Up Utility, but when I click on it, there is just a blink and it does not open. I have done all of the things that Epson said to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Consensus seems to be that failure to load a nib file indicates the associated application is corrupted. You can use Pacifist to reinstall Printer Setup Utility from your Tiger OS X Install disc. Before doing so, check for possible hard drive problems that would explain a corrupted application by using the OS X Install disc to boot the Mac and run Repair Disk as described in Using Disk Utility and fsck. If Repair Disk reports making any repairs, repeat it until it reports no problems found, since it's possible for one disk problem to mask another.

  • [VIA] MSI MS-6738, Win2k & USB

Just a word on getting a usb memory key working on an MSI Km2m mobo.
    Under Win98se:
    - usb mice work fine
    - Palm usb doesn't work unless one reinstals the palm software each time one wants to communicate
    - a PNY Attaché 2 USB 2.0 memory key has never worked, even with updates to drivers and os.
Linux Knoppix and Xandros on the other hand have no problems with usb.
The good news is that Windows 2k SP4 also handles all of these, automatically, without installing any more than the Hyperion drivers.
(In similar vein, 2k's power management works where 98se's sometimes crashes.)
    Good day everyone

    -Generic 256MB USB1.1 Flash Drive
-Several USB meeses (generic, Logitech, Microsoft)
-Several USB keyboards (generic, KeyTronic, Microsoft)
The only problems I've had were a couple generic bus-powered USB2.0 hubs I purchased on the cheap.  My DLINK 4-port USB2.0 hub with its own power supply works flawlessly, though I rarely use it (its been in my desk drawer for about three months).  Also, my USB floppy drive sometimes goes on the blink if I plug it in when my Epson CX6400 is connected, it gets installed as generic removable storage volume instead of a floppy.  Unplugging the CX6400 and restarting, then plugging it back in always seems to solve it.
I've used most (but not all) of those on Win98SE, though more extensively on XP.

  • Unable to Print to Epson printers using LPD on PPC, works on Intel

After updating to Leopard, I am unable to print to my network printer Epson 870 and CX6400 from my G5 Imac. Everything worked fine with Mac OS 10.4.x. It works from my MacBook running Leopard. I am unable to select (even using browse) the appropriate Gutenprint V.5.1.3 driver. It fails to output to print server. From my MacBook all my network printer works - Samsung ML-1710, Epson 870 and CX6400. From the PPC Imac, only the Samsung works.
If I share the printer from the MacBook, the iMac sees the printers and automatically selects the appropriate Gutenprint driver. I am using IPD. I also tried Window. I can not select the Gutenprint drivers. For the 870, I tried selecting Epson Stylus Color and Photo series 1.3 and Epson CX6000 series driver.
I've reloaded the drivers from Apple and also tried Epson's drivers. I haven't tried loading the standard (non-Apple) gutenprint drivers.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Al

I have the answer. It took quite a while but I know why the 3880 won't print from Photoshop 4 with Maverick. It is due to the Epson .icc page description files. The way to solve the problem is to make your own .icc. OK, so you don't know how to do it. This is what I did so now I get the quality prints I expect from an expensive printer.
You need to go to www.datacolor.com/spyderprint and purchase the Spyderprint hardware and software. It comes as a package for $300 to $350 depending on if you get a sale. The software will print on the 3880 test sheets of color blocks. With the hardware reader you then read the colors on the test sheets printed. What this does is match the monitor image with the printer, ink and paper you used. It makes an .icc page description file for you to select instead of the Epson .icc file. When you print again select the new .icc file and also choose "Printer Manages Colors" instead of "Photoshop Manages Colors" I know this is usual but it works. When you are done you will be smiling too with your beautiful results.
One other thing. If you want, it is optional, also purchase the Spider 4 Pro for $150. It calibrates your monitor and helps make excellent prints.
I understand it is more money and you already probably have a good computer, expensive camera to go with the 3880 so spend the extra money so it all works together.
    I hope this helps.
