Epson drivers in conjunction to the 10.4.6 update .... Epson 2200 printer
I have a Epson 2200 printer seems something has happened to Epson drivers in conjunction with the recent 10.4.6 update .. getting "jobs stopped " from Epson borderless driver when I try to print anything ...
Any ideas ?
I know the Epson 2200 drivers on Mac have been buggy for years .
I know the Epson 2200 drivers on Mac have been buggy for years .. it is only recently been able to get Epson 2200 to work properly & consistently is controlling via Lightroom's print module
I know Epson 2200 is primarily a photo printer , & I know does not work as a photo printer on airport .. only as a standard text printer a job it does lack luster ..
I know Epson 2200 has multiple drivers , seven drivers in fact .. borderless , roll paper , roll paper borderless .. etc .....
I am guessing something has happened to Epson drivers in the 10.4.6 update .. printer a Epson 2200 printer (& scanner Epson 2450 scanner are unavailable (getting a "could not complete the import command because there is no scanner installed " for the scanner from CS2 )

ibooks Mac OS X (10.4.6)
You might try resetting the printing system and reinstalling the printer. I know that when I upgraded my system at one point, the borderless printing driver had been folded into the other driver and was available through Page Setup. So you may be trying to use a driver that has been rendered obsolete.

Well, I have this printer too, and I get the following response from the System Prefs Printers and Scanners when I select to add this printer:
"The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."
When you go to the Epson website for this particular printer it says:
"The latest drivers for this product are available only via Apple's Software Update."
And finally, when you go to Software Update it says: "No updates available"
I second OMT8.
Yes, the driver file at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398 allowed me to finally install my printer, but does Apple have _any idea_ how long it takes to download a 1.08GB file over a 1.5mbps DSL connection?
Never mind how much of my pricey new SSD is being consumed by the resulting 1.80GB of driver files all for _one_ printer driver that should maybe occupy 200K?
Or that the primary article on OS X printer drivers (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669) -- which does indicate that the Artisan 830 is supported -- does not mention or link to the driver file that's needed to make it work?
Or what a complete violation of Apple's "it just works" gestalt it is to be confronted with the above Catch-22 and to have to search the web and then go through all of the above to make a new laptop talk to a two-year-old printer?
Yes, my printer now works, and yes, Apple's Support Communities were instrumental in getting to this point. But spending all morning (plus download time) getting a printer driver installed tastes way too much like I paid for Apple and got Microsquish.

After downloading Epson drivers V 2.15 the message "scanner not available" still appears on my Epson RX620. Help?
Hello, Carolyn,
Thank you for your suggestion. Image Capture does not recognize the scanner.
I have tried reset and that did not work either.
Interestingly enough, I have Windows XP partitioned and the scanner functions perfectly. Just would be nice it I did not have to switch to XP every time I need to scan.
Thank you again for responding.

Tip: New Epson drivers available at sg site
New Epson drivers are available at the Singapore site. I tried the driver for my Stylus Pro 3850 and I was able to add the printer to my printer list using Bonjour rather than the specific IP method previously necessary with Leopard. The driver will support all variants of the 3800/3850.
The U.S. site currently only provides public beta drivers for Leopard. I'm not sure if the Singapore and U.S. drivers are the same.
Of note, the U.S. site specifically states that the new beta drivers support Leopard's 16-bit printing.Linda, when I install a new print driver, I go the extra mile. I guess I'm paranoid but here's what I do.
I use the new installer to Uninstall the existing driver.
I use the new installer to Install the driver.
in Print & Fax preferences, I control-click on the Printers list and choose Reset Printing System.
I re-add my printer to the Printers list.
btw, I'm using Leopard on an Intel iMac.
and Bill is right. the drivers on the Singapore site for the R1800 are not new: Date Posted : 2006-04-25. if you're having problems printing under Leopard, you will probably have to wait a while longer.

Can't print with my Epson stylus RX 640 since the latest apple software update for epson. Since then I completely reinstalled the printer following epson's advice. It worked. But today, I am trying to print some photos and nothing happens. Epson suggest resetting and then doing some repair permissions. Done that and still no joy. Can anyone help please.
contact Epson again and ask them about using a generic Gutenprint driver; I read in one of the threads here - but can't find it right now - about a problem with your model printer. Since Epson has not updated its driver to work with SL on this older model, it appears using a generic driver does work. You might also try searching for those threads by typing your model number into the search box.

I have a fairly new iMac running OS 10.6.7. Im trying to print to an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 via an in-house wireless internet. I have installed the latest drivers. It was working a couple of months ago. My wife is on the same network using a MacBook Pro and the same OS and is having no problem.
I have been using an Epson 3800 with my I Mac for four years and up untill I upgraded to OSX Lion the only problem I had was colour issues associated with some ICC profiles. After upgrading to Lion and downloading the latest OSX update (10th May) I could not print.
One of the problms was that the print settings continuously defaulted to:
Page Setup: Sheet Feeder
Media Type: Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster
I would change the settings to what I wanted, I saved them selected Print. My printer promptly started changing from Matte ink (what I had set my print setting s for) to Photo Black.
After trying all i could to correct this. I finally gave up and rang the Epson Helpline. After 3 telephone calls over a day and a half during which I was talked through the procedure you described, the problems were still not resolved.
My contact on the Epson Helpline then tried to simulate the problem on his MAC. He discovered that he had the same problem the print settings would not save, albeit on a Epson 3880 driver. He then advised me that the problem was not with thw Epson Drivers it was a MAC/Apple problem.
I then rang the Apple Helpline (at £1.35 a minute) described the problem and was eventually put through to a supervisor. Who asked me to send her a set of screen shots describing the problem, This I have done, I have received an acknowledgement of receipt and have been advised that I should get a response within two working days.
I am waiting hopefully.
I have tried to print both via CS5 and Aperture the problem is the same in both instances. -
My (old) Epson RX510 multifunction printer is included in the list of printers supported by Apple, but on following the procedure advised for downloading the printer drivers for Mountain Lion and/or Lion I get the error message " the printer software is currently unavailable and to contact the printer manufacturer. However on going to the Epson web site I get the message to go to the Apple web site as all printer drivers have been covered in the Mountain Lion software updates.
Can anyone please advise what is going on when the said printer is shown as being included in Apple's list of software included in Mountain Lion and Lion software updates?
Waynegeorge wayne wrote:
I understand that and I have been using the printer successfully on OS X 10.5 on another old iMac.
However I also have an euqally old Canon printer and its drivers were successfully downloaded using the same procedure as recommended for the Epson.
The fact that the Epson RX510 is currently listed on the Apple Support website as being supported is the frustrating issue.
Go to; http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#epson
- then scroll down to the Epson section and eventually you will find the RX510 listed with Version 9.00 shown and "P" & "S" shown for printer and scanner drivers being available.
PS: Sometimes you need to click on the "Software available" link to open the list of printers. It is then a fair way down the Epson list with the RX series.

Why is the scan size of our epson 15Mb for PDF using image capture?
Hi All-
This has been plaguing us since Snow Leopard when we lost the Epson Scanner tool from Epson to Image Capture scanning using our Epson 835 Artisan.
PDF sizes are ridiculous using Image Capture.
For example, 3 pages of text using Image Capture =
15Mb
Using the same printer, same 3 pages and the builtin Epson Scanner (from the printer panel) and a USB stick =
1.2Mb
This has been happening since the SL upgrade (as mentioned) but I had hoped that Epson/Apple could get their act together on the Epson drivers for ML. Seems not to be the case. It is kind of a drag to have a Network available Scanner only to have the built in software be a bum steer. Not only that, but no relief from Epson since their Scanner program (as bad as it was UI wise, but at least you got a mail-able document) has been discontinued...
Any ideas?
jpThis doesn't answer the question but it is a workaround.
How is the quality if you do this:
Open the PDF in Apple Preview
Choose File/Export
In Export, choose PDF format with the Quartz Filter option "Reduce File Size"
If it's ugly, there's a way to adjust the compression settings by using Apple ColorSync Utility to make a modified copy of the Reduce File Size filter with different settings. By playing with this I was able to start with a 7.1MB PDF scan from Image Capture, and export variations based on different Reduce File Size settings:
5.3MB (JPEG Max) - looks great
188KB (JPEG Min) - looks good as the 5.3 MB copy actually
40K (Automatic) - too blurry to be usable
If you were to perfect your own compression filter you could just export each PDF through Preview after scanning it, or presumably you could build some kind of drag-and-drop conversion utility in Automator although I don't know anything about Automator.
It's a workaround because I could not determine a way to apply a Quartz filter from Image Capture itself when saving a PDF. -
Since the download of the OSX Mountain Lion, my Epson beamer is no more working, what should I do?
Plug the device into the computer and make sure it is turned on, then click the apple logo then software update, if some are available from epson install them. If not contact epson at 800-533-3731 for the correct drivers needed for Mountain Lion

Epson C80 software has left the building-what now?
After my epson c80 wouldn't print, the printer utility wouldn't even recognize it. I tried reinstalling the software (1.33) from the original disk, and even reinstalled Tiger. But even though the Epson printer files appear to be in the library, when I try to add it using the Print Utility, nothing shows up--nothing! Here's what happens:
Click on Add to bring up Printer Browser. Nothing in list. Click on More Printers. "Epson USB" shows up at the top of the window, and "Searching for new drivers" with spinning stick circle appears at bottom. But then nothing. All I can do is cancel.
Any suggestions? TIA, Jim from BerkeleyReset Printing System (menu item in Printer Setup) and/or repair permissions and then try again. If no help there, we're probably talking a bad OS X install.

After I installed Leopard I went looking for drivers for my Epson 2200 printer and Epson 4870 Photo scanner. I couldn't find them on the Epson site and a Google search turned up forums topics that suggested Epson would not support these units under Leopard. Then I came across an almost hidden link that took me to a new Epson page that pointed me to drivers for both. I haven't tried them yet, but here is the link-
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportLeopard.jspAlthough this thread is already marked solved (thank you! ), I would like to add another note, for it does imply Epson's and other software installers:
My scanner software failed again after the post of success. I then decided to run a complete new clean install, without taking over old settings, but rather installing all software anew. Since the first try again brought along some faults, I redid the procedure once more, but this time disonnecting all external periphreals and the second internal hard drive, also took out a pci card. Since then things work flawlessly!
BUT: Apple seems to have changed its permission schemes on some folder like the library folder on system level. I found (after comparing with my laptop) that some installers which would render insuccessful, did not install files there, which they would on the other machine on the older system. Manually either copying the files form the other machine and/or changing access priveleges accordingly solved this problem. Not only for the scanner, but other programs alike.
If you can, as a general recommendation for this thread and other programs: compare installed files of installers you have problems with on leopard with the installed files on another machine. This may give clues on what was going wrong and possibly a solution to fix these.

Epson drivers : how to revert back ?
Prior updating to Apple Epson drivers through Software Update, I used the proprietary Epson for a PX800, which gave me the option to *print draft*, with a cursor regulating the print, using less ink.
Not so with Apple Drivers : this option has disappeared.
I tried to revert to Epson driver : apparently impossible.
How do you do this ?Bruce De Benedictis wrote:
To find what driver you are using, open Print & Fax, and click on Options & Supplies... You will get a box that gives the information, and if you click on Drivers, you might even be able to change the one that you are using.
That I know : problem is the driver displayed has the PX800 FW Epson icon which is exactly unchanged from the original non-Apple. Instead, when I choose it in Gutenprint, it's the a generic icon.
So my problem is these precious options have apparently been suppressed from the Epson driver itself. I have last version available.
Besides, I've reset the Printing system and re-added all three printers.
It's again loading the drivers from the Apple update, not the original ones.
I'd like to ditch this bundle of Apple drivers. Can I do it without reverting to previous state of my system through Time Machine ? I hope, because I don't have time for that.
As an aside, original drivers have each its icon, making it much more intuitive to identify each machine.
Now the Z3100 is the only one to retain its icon, the Samsung and the Epson have the same generic icon. This is a detail, but still annoying when working fast.

OS 10.4.1.1, CS 3
Where/how do I de-install the drivers. I de-installed the package receipts in the Library, but that didn't help.
TIABD,
Here's what the CrashLog returned; if you can tell me what I need to do to open the Print to CD app, that would be great!!

[Mac] Caution on Updating Epson drivers via Software Update- 3800
I ran the Apple supplied updater for Epson drivers, and my 3800 dialog slipped backwards; this on my G5 desktop. The cure was easy enough: ran the Uninstaller that exists in the Beta 3800 driver, and reinstalled.
One of the more disturbing "features" is that the Summary will tell you you're printing in either 360 x360 'DPI', or 720 x 720 'DPI', even when you're printing at high levels, say 1440 or 2800 DPI.
Even if it's trying to tell you it's receiving data at 360 PPI, it's usually not the case. Kinda makes me feel uncomfortable using this "update".You should be able to get any updates from Apple via the Support/Downloads on the main Apple.com page. Any peripheral drivers that Apple has not updated would need to be downloaded from the manufacturer's web site.

I am not able to load any Epson print drivers from the Epson website onto my iBook. I reloaded the software using the combi choice, reparired permissions, and restarted numerous times. Still no go.
I have no problems loading the same drivers on a G4 Power Mac with the same version of software. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
Thanks,
LouI now have Epson drivers. I was doing something really stupid. I did not have the printer connected to the computer when I tried to add the print drivers. Duh.
