Epson Perfection 660 Driver

Hello, any one know a solution to use Epson Perfection 660 on Mac OSX 10.6?
There is no driver already installed.
And no driver found on Epson's website.
So probably if there is a similar driver that can be used, it will work.
Any solution?

Use TWAIN SANE - http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/
1. Basically, install all the snow leopard binaries from the web site above, except the SDKs.
2. Download the XP driver of Epson Perfection 660, unzip it. You will find a firmware file under DATA called TAIL_061.BIN
3. Point the driver to that firmware by going to System preference -> SANE. Configure the driver called "snapscan". The top of that config file should be like this (note that I put the firmware file in /usr/local/share/sane/snapscan/):-
#------------------------------ General -----------------------------------
# Change to the fully qualified filename of your firmware file, if
# firmware upload is needed by the scanner
firmware /usr/local/share/sane/snapscan/TAIL_061.BIN
# If not automatically found you may manually specify a device name.
# For USB scanners also specify bus=usb, e.g.
# /dev/usb/scanner0 bus=usb
# For SCSI scanners specify the generic device, e.g. /dev/sg0 on Linux.
# /dev/sg0
There you are. It works with my Macbook Pro 13" with OSX 10.6.4

  • I Upgraded to 10.8.5 but  the epson perfection scan 1670  is not supported. Where I can find a driver?

I upgraded to the latest mountain Lion but my Epson perfection 1670 scan is no longer supported. I have also an HP scan but it's not like my beloved Epson! I went to the Epson site but the only thing they sad is that I have to look for an upgrade at the app store. The app store displays that there isn't any upgrade to do. The Epson support says I have to look for the ICA Image Capture Architecture of Apple...
I have no idea what is that ICA, anyway anybody knows where I can find it and download it form make my scan work?
    Hope you can help.

I have the same problem. The latest update broke my Epson Perfection 1670 scanner. Image Capture would say that it is warming up and eventually would give me an error. It happened immediately after the 10.8.5 update, so I know it was the driver.
Here is how I got my scanner to work again:
Go to this folder (shift-command-G from the FInder):
    /Library/Image Capture/Devices/
Look for a file called "EPSON Scanner". The new one is version 5.6.0.  This one DOES NOT work.
I went to another computer that I did not update and looked for the same file. The old version that still works is 5.3.12.
I deleted the new version and copied the old one inside that folder.
Presto. My scanner is working again.

  • I upgraded to Mavericks and can't find a driver to work with my EPSON Perfection 4990 scanner.  The Epson site says to update thru my mac but it there is nothing there.  Any suggestions?

I upgraded to Mavericks and can't get my Epson Perfection 4990 scanner to work.  I had gotten it to work with a driver I downloaded from EPSON with Mountain Lion

    Hi...
Epson is vorking on updating drivers and utilities for this scanner.
    From the epson site :
    "Description:
An OS X 10.9 compatible Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility for this model is not yet available but is coming soon. Please check back for availability."
So, until then you can only use the basic scanning provided by Image Capture.
Alternatively take a look on vuescan.

  • Photoshop CS4 - TWAIN driver for my Epson Perfection 3200 scanner

I have been attempting to find, download and install a version of the TWAIN driver for the Epson Perfection 3200 Photo scanner.  I need a version that will work with the Mac OSX 10.6.7 operatinging system and Adobe Photoshop CS4.  I have already exhausted all efforts to get an appropriate driver from Epson and they suggested I see if Adobe didn't have one that would install into the Import/Export folder of CS4.  Can you help?

the search here is (was?) really bad but google gives you a back door:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=twain+cox+forums.adobe.com&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.m ozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
pay close attention to what Chris Cox writes
    Short answer:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405072.html
forget twain and scanning through Photoshop (keep working in Photoshop while you scan by scanning in the manufacturer's scanning app, or try VUESCAN free scanning software)
note that Ps runs in 64 bit by default and many scanner plugins conflict because they are 32bit and buggy so if your scanner pluging is 32 bit, you need to run Ps in 32 bit if you want to the TWAIN door (again, not recommended, and it's been discussed here many times, probably why your post hit air)

  • Epson Perfection "Supported Twain Driver"

I moved my Epson Perfection 1670 over to my new Apple Mini Server, installed the Epson Software, and get this message when trying to scan:  "Please install the supported Twain driver."  I have looked everywhere on Epson's web site for the "Supported Twain Driver."  Also went through Apple's Software update and it did update the Epson software, but I still get the same message.  Any ideas are appreciated.

    hi Jason,
it seems to be available from epson.com at this link...

  • Driver for Epson Perfection 3170 Photo

I have an Epson Perfection 3170 Photo scanner.  It is a fine scanner that has served me well for many years through many different operating systems, Windows as well as Mac OS X.
The scanner software is no longer supported by Epson for OS X Lion.  The only way I can now san is by using the drivers that are built into the OS.  I can access the scanner either through System Preferences/Print & Scan, or use Image Capture.
Unfortunately, all the scans are of an extremely poor quality.  I can no longer scan fibrant colors or stong blacks, the entire scan is now murky and all colors as well as the blacks and greys are faded.
Does anybody have the same experience?  Is there a solution to this?
    Thanks in advance.

After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, I have the same problem now with my Perfection 3170. I have installed all of the available updates and new ICA scan update. Even tho' it installed a new Epson scan, it would not acknowledge my scanner. From an output point of view, VueScan is not much better but I object to having to pay for something that was free and working when I bought the scanner. However, there is a manual work around in Image Capture that will get you closer to the original scanned source. After the source has been overview scanned, alter the scan parameters. I change "IMAGE CORRECTION" from None to Manual. This brings up 4 individual measurements. All 4 markers or indicators should be in the centre position. Using the indicators like a ruler, make these changes: Brightness - 1.5 to the left of centre (-1.5), Tint: .5 left of centre (-.5), Temperature leave as is, and Saturation: .5 to the right of centre (+.5). Then Scan. The resultant scan is pretty close to OK. In photoshop, I reduce the Cyan and Magent by 10% and the Yellow by 5% and I find that my white is now white according to the info box (0C, 0M, 0Y, 0K). Until Epson can supply a lion compatible driver for this printer I will be using this workaround. Hope this helps you get decent scans again.

  • ICA Scanner Driver gives poor quality scans Epson Perfection 1660 Photo

The controls on the ICA Scanner Driver for the Epson Perfection 1660 Photo scanner are very crude, and it's difficult if not impossible to get the quality I used to get with the previous Epson Scan driver.  Where there used to be Levels, Curves, and Zoom controls, now there are only crude Brightness and Contrast sliders.  Is there any way I can get more control over levels and curves, and zoom in on an image to fine tune the cropping, like I used to do with Epson Scan?  Or will I have to  buy a current model scanner?  The Epson Scan program for the Perfection 1660 scanner is no longer compatible with Mac OS X 10.7.

I bought Vuescan 12 years ago, got the professional version. I have used it on Mac's and a PC or two. I have been through a dozen or more scanners over the years, upgraded OS's a hefty number of times as well.  And it still works like a champ.
Best $40 I ever spent.  (what it cost back then for Pro...)
You can go to his site, and try Vuescan for free before you buy.  Not a big software company, just a guy who loves scanners, and his son.  And he's been offering the software a long, long time, and updates the product constantly.

  • Epson Perfection 1250 stopped working after 2.65A driver upgrade

i have the above scanner. it was working with a driver i downloaded from Epson a couple of years ago. I went to the epson site and saw a newer driver was there, this is 2.65a epson scan and TWAIN driver. i downloaded it and installed it and now the scan application quits after 5 seconds. no msg nothing. i have 10.2.8 which the doc says is supported by this driver. i repaired disk permissions still no luck. the apple profiler sees the scanner on the usb port, and it makes a noise when the system is booted (i guess to show it's there) so since there are no error msgs i don't have a clue what's wrong. anybody had this problem. i'm going to try to find the old driver again, but right now no scanner :(( why do i try to be up to date, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

this was resolved by epson. apparently their driver upgrade did not automatically remove the previous version and you have to manually do that (they walked me throughte files that needed to be deleted). once i did that the new driver installed and worked fine.

  • Epson Perfection 1660 Scanner Win7 64bit driver

Anyone get this scanner or similar to work with Win 7 64bit? Seen some fake Trojan Horse software out there, and got the supposedly 32 bit win 7 download Epson recomends, but no luck. This was a fast scanner

I have the Epson Perfection 3200 and when I went to Window 7 64 Bit it was either buying the Silverlight 64bit  (Upgrades are available free for 32 Bit) or getting Vuescan and bought Vuescan from hamrick.com It looks as if there site is down at the moment though.
    Oh and Vuescan works great.

  • Scans saving to wrong place! Epson Perfection, V300 and 4990, Canon MP250 scanners and Windows 7

I have a network of 4 computers using Epson Perfection and Canon scanners with a Digitization interface that writes data to MS Access. Ever since we were forced to upgrade to Win7, when we try to scan,
the scanner tries to save files to the wrong drive even though the .ini settings for the program specify a certain path (a shared drive on our main computer) and I've also set the scanners to save to the same path on the shared computer. I work at a university
and the tech guys here are stumped. We've been running the scanners on XP service pack 2 and 3 compatibility and that seems to fix some issues but definitely not others. Our scanning time is much longer now, as if there's a queue we're waiting for and if someone
else is writing to the drive, the second in the queue gets kicked out to their local computer Doc or Desktop folder. Before Win 7 upgrades, we never had this problem. Some computers are brand new, others are a bit older. Any suggestions there??
Eventually we will migrate to an SQL format but until we finish the first phase of our project we're stuck withAccess and this scanning problem.

    Hi,
According to your description, the issue happened after Windows 7 upgrade, so I would suggest you check the driver for the scanner for Windows 7, it's usually better to look for the right verison of drivers in the manufacture website. Meanwhile, update the
scan software or reinstall the software, check the result.

  • HT3669 My Epson Perfection 1200 scanner functions as a flatbed scanner but when I try to scan transparencies the control panels change in  Image Capture but the scanner bar will not complete the overview scan  & cannot travel beyond the first 2/3 centimet

Epson Perfection 1200 scanner continues to function as a flatbed scanner but when I try to scan transparencies/film negs the control panels change in  Image Capture but the scanner bar will not complete the overview scan  & cannot travel beyond the first 2/3 centimeters. All the communications seem to recognise the scanner and the mode for the intended scan but the necessary overview scan is not completed, nothing comes up on the Image Capture scan window. If I unplug the film adaptor I can get a document scan. When I plug in the adaptor again the Image Capture details change which allows me to select the type of scan required but when the scanner attempts an overview scan it is unable to complete it.
I have had the scanner from new (12 Years) and have previously scanned slides and film with the adaptor but maybe this was before I upgraded my computer (imac 27").
Do I have to buy a new scanner?  It seems so close to working correctly.
I have downloaded the Epson recommended driver (5.4) and have Epson Perfection 1200 6.6 Universal showing in the Applications List.
Any thoughts or observations would be much appreciated before I go out and spend money an new hardware.
    Thanks

I have same issue - have you solved this yet?

  • OS 10.4.4 + Photoshop Elements 2.0 + Epson Perfection 3200 Photo Scanner

i have an epson perfection 3200 photo scanner which had worked fine importing into photoshop elements 2.0 when i had an imac g3, but i cannot get it to work on my new machine, a powerbook g4 using 10.4.4. epson said it should work (i downloaded the most recent driver) but adobe said that 10.4.4 does not support photoshop elements 2.0 or 3.0. i downloaded 3.0 (they have a month trial) and it acknowledged my scanner for a second but then repeated the error message.
    any thoughts?
    thanks.
    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Further to Barbara's suggestions, have you tried uninstalling your scanner and then disconnecting it physically from your PB. Then reinstall the scanner software and any updated drivers with the scanner still disconnected. Then reconnect the USB to the scanner and see whether you have better success. Epson scanners can be fussy (shy?) about being recognised, and I used these steps when I "lost" my Epson 3170 when moving to 10.3.x.
Barbara is absolutely right about PS Elements 2 and 10.4.4 - I'm also using it regularly with no problems. Since you got it to work with your previous computer and OS, you can also get it to work with your new PB and 10.4.4 - it just may need a little coaxing...

  • Epson perfection 2450 photo and Mountain Lion

Is there anyone who has been able to use their Epson Perfection 2450 photo with Mountain Lion.  When I bought my new Apple computer, it had Mountain Lion.  I have not been able to use my scanner since then.  Is there a way to get the software necessary to use it?

I researched and so far I only have been able to access the Perfection 2450 thru Image Capture in Apps. I had to go to apple software update in my menu bar and get the latest driver. It works fine in IC. It reconizes the 2450. What I was looking for is the program i was using in my macbook 10.6 os. I don't think at this point apple wants you to use an outside program. Image Capture lists periferels and that is the way to access them. I gave up looking further.
