Epson Printer Drivers

I'm looking for the newest drivers from Epson for a Stylus Photo 2200, The gutenprint version of the drivers doesn't work well with Adobe Lightroom, after contacting Epson they stated that the drivers are on the 10.5 DVD, and if it's using the gutenprint drivers still, to contact apple.
Short version: I need the non gutenprint drivers (.ppd?) for an Epson 2200.

The Gutenprint drivers are a package. You can download the latest version at VersionTracker or MacUpdate. However, I wouldn't expect much of a change. Epson's own drivers would be found at their web site.

  • Epson Printer Drivers and Leopard - Epson 740 or Epson RX700 problems

It seems even after Epson updated their printer drivers Leopard will not all me to print to my Epson Stylus Color 740 AND my Epson RX700, I must choose one over the other.
If I install the printer drivers from Apple they include drivers for the old Epson Stylus Color 740 and it works fine. The problem is it kills my new Epson RX700 printer. It still works, but I cannot print CDs.
If I delete the Epson printer drivers from my Library folder and start over with the updated Epson RX700 drivers I can print to the RX700 including to CDs, but they do not offer an Epson Stylus Color 740 printer driver beyond system 9.
I have tried installing the newer Epson RX700 drivers over top of the Apple installation but the same result happens.
Can anybody help? I need the old drivers from Apple's system 10.5 installation disk so I can print to my old workhorse Epson 740 and my Apple 630 laser writer pro. But I also would like to print to CDs using my new RX700.

I have exactly the same problem...I have submitted a query to Epson...but we all know how good support is from companies like Epson and Apple

  • Epson Stylus TX210 stopped working after Epson Printer Drivers 2.1 update.

Hi! I recently bought an Epson Stylus TX210 All-In-One printer. I installed the drivers and software bundled in the included CD and I used it without any problems for 2 days, until the I was prompted to download Epson Printer Drivers 2.1. After the installation, I noticed that whenever I wanted to print anything, the "Print" blue glowing button in the print dialogue won't do anything and no matter how many times I pressed it, it didn't continue the printing process. I've tried everything to solve the issue, but so far anything has worked properly.
    Thing I've done:
-Trashed the EPSON folder in HD\Library\Printers
    -Repaired permissions.
    -Reset printing system.
    -Reinstall the CD drivers.
-Redownload the Epson Printer Drivers 2.1.
    -Delete bundled software.
I've tried every possible combination of the steps above, and so far here's the state of my printed:
-I can print a Test Page directly using Option and Supplies opftion under the Printer and Fax settings.
    -Scanner works.
-The "Print" button is no longer stuck, but every attempt to print fails. The printing status reads: "Error: /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpll failed"
-I'm printing by connecting the printer directly through the USB port.
Is there anything I can do? I would gladly appreciate any help!
    Thanks in advance!

I would like to inform everyone that I've successfully solved my problem and now my printer works again!
The actual solution this this problem is a combination of various tips on this thread, but finally I found the exact steps and files needed.
1-If you installed drivers from the CD included in the printer, first uninstall them by opening each individual installer on the /Commons/ folder on the CD. After the installer prompts you for the password, select the "uninstall" option on the drop-down menu on the top left section of the window. Make sure you run the uninstall option -if possible- on all installers included on the CD.
2-Trash the HD\Library\Printers\EPSON folder and empty the Trash Can. There's going to be a couple of files being in use and you won't be able to delete them -yet-.
    3-Reboot and disconnect your printer.
4-Empty the Trash Can again. The remaining files should be gone by now.
5-Go to System Preferences/Printer and Fax, right-click on the printer list and reset the printing system.
6-Go to http://www.epson.com.ph/epson/drivers/driver_download.htm?dc=1&mode=3&m=false&ca tid=4&pid=1473 and download the Epson Stylus TX210 Driver for Mac OS X. -Note: I tried multiple versions of the TX210 drivers found online and this particular version was the only one that worked. It's interesting that the this for both the SX210 and TX210, and the installers that only contained the TX210 drivers didn't work-. If for some reason the page changes, the name of the file you're looking for is SX210Series652EMP2.dmg
    7-Run the installer.
8-Connect your printer and go to System Preferences/Printer and Fax. The printer should be recognized and ready to print.
Thanks everybody for all the support!

  • I updated the epson printer drivers like it asked, only to find out that my epson 1400 is not compatible on 10.8, the original driver worked fine, but now it prints terrible, how do I re-install back to original?

I updated the epson printer drivers like it asked, only to find out that my epson 1400 is not compatible on 10.8, the original driver worked fine, but now it prints terrible, how do I re-install back to original?

Do you have a TM backup or a clone? If so, erase the drive and restore with TM or clone back.
If not you'll have to reformat and re-install the OS that shipped with your Mac. If it shipped with Lion or ML you can do the restore from your Recovery Volume
EDIT: I assume you are saying that you just installed 10.8?

  • After upgrading to snow leopard my Epson printer drivers did not load and i get an error 'rasteroescpll failed'. I have tried reloading the driver to no effect. Can anyone help?

I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and at the end of the upgrade the printer drivers failed to load. I have since updated them myself (Epson BX305) but still get an eror message 'rasteroescpll failed'. can anyone help?
I have an Imac previously running 5.8.0 and now running 6.3.0.
    thank you
    Hugh

The current driver version is 8.67.
    Delete you printer.
    Delete the folder /Library/Prnters/EPSON
    Delete the folder /Library/Caches/Epson
Unplug your printer from your computer for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.  You should be prompted to download the new drivers.
If all that fails, you can get the new drivers from Apple at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398

  • More on Photoshop CS4 and Epson print drivers

I just got my Epson Stylus Pro 7900 with the SpectroProofer option. One thing the SpectroProofer enables is bypassing everything to talk to the printer directly. I made up a sample target (based on Bill Atkinson's RGB 5x12 Hues Target) and printed/measured this with the SpectroProofer. I then took the output printed by the SpectroProofer and measured this manually with MeasureTool and my Eye-One Pro (Rev B ). The average/worst correlation was 1.00/2.02 Delta E 2000, good enough for me given two different instruments and the SpectroProofer patches are a tad narrow for the Eye-One.
I then printed the same target with Photoshop CS3 and No Color Management and this compares well with the SpectroProofer output (0.69/1.90). So I have confidence that CS3 is passing the data directly.
I then printed the target again with Photoshop CS4 and No Color Management, same driver settings and get a CS3/CS4 difference of 3.22/10.25. I repeated the CS4 readings and get 3.21/10.29.
The odd man out here is CS4. The differences between the CS3 and CS4 printouts (remember both with No Color Management) are clearly visible. GIven that the Epson 7900 drivers are brand spanking new, I'm not expecting architectural changes in the short term so I plan to stick with CS3 for profiling/printing.

You may want to explore the solution given and explained by Eric Chan:

Essentially, with the newer Leopard APIs, the recommended approach is for a printer driver to register its printer profiles to the system (i.e., Leopard). That is, the driver needs to provide a default profile to Leopard so that Leopard can provide the appropriate color matching. The default profile provided usually is a function of the color mode (e.g., RGB color or black-and-white), media type, resolution, etc.
CS4 was updated to use the newer printing APIs (a requirement moving forward) and hence relies on the driver providing the correct default profile.
If the driver doesn't do this, then Leopard will provide its own default profile, which is obviously not the correct printing profile and will have the side effect of making prints appear too dark and possibly with a strong color cast.
(BTW, this is exactly what was going on with some Canon iPF printers recently with many users blaming Adobe for introducing printing bugs in CS4, when the real issue was the driver not correctly providing the default profile to Leopard. The issue was resolved a couple of days ago when Canon released an updated driver.)
The problem appears to be Leopard indeed, ironically because CS4 was
optimized for Leopard, while early versions are not.
The solution/workaround has worked for several users already, and it's certainly easy to implement.

  • Epson Printer Drivers (R200)

I am really stymied by this. I normally have my Epson R200 connected to my Windows 2003 server and I print to it from my iMac via Windows sharing. The result is the drivers from the iMac are the GIMP drivers not the native R200 drivers. This results in a abridged set of print options for the R200, in particular the ability to print directly onto a DVD or CD is not working correctly with Disk Print. Now if I attach the printer directly to the Mac the Mac then immediately identifies the printer, adds it and then and uses the correct native (Leopard) drivers (it is identified as an Epson R200) and all works perfectly including Disk Print (menus have more selections than GIMP print). This tells me the printer drivers for the R200 are resident on the iMac. here is the part that is driving me mad. I then reconnect it back to the Windows server and add it back as a Windows printer and when selecting the drivers for the Epson I go hunting in /Library/Printers/PPDs/Content/Resources and see all the Epson drivers except the R200. I have used the find command to look for them. To no avail. Looked in the Epson folder in PPDs. No luck. They are there somewhere but, beats me where they are. If I could locate them I bet all would work fine. Anybody know where the heck they might be lurking.
    TIA
    Guy

Did you ever resolve this? I have roughly the same problem with an R300. It finds the driver just fine when I connect via usb. But when I connect over the network, the closest I can find is some generic "Epson Photo Stylus Series" driver, in both old and new flavors. Neither of which work. Epson claims the R300 driver is built in to Leopard, which as we both know it is when we connect via usb, but darned if I can find it when connecting via samba.
Anyway, I've just been beating myself over the head over this the last few days, pouring over the support forums to see if anyone had worked this out yet... let me know!

  • Epson Printer Drivers v2.15 for OS X

In the past few days Apple released this OSX printer driver upgrade. Since installing it this morning, on each occasion it has caused the printing to crash.
I have since redownloaded and reinstalled the upgrade from Apple's own web page (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) but the results are the same.
I have reset the print and fax preferences (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11143?viewlocale=en_US) but any attempt at printing still crashes.
The printer is (a not particularly old) Epson TX800FW. Up until the upgrade this morning the printer and iMac played happily together. What concerns me a little, is that when I bury down into the document which accompanied the upgrade npotification from Apple, an Epson TX800FW is nowhere to be found in the "compatible printer" list. There's:
    EPSON Stylus Office TX525FW
    9.04
    P
    S
    F
    EPSON Stylus Office TX600FW
    9.00
    P
    S
    EPSON Stylus Office TX610FW
    9.00
    P
    S
    F
    EPSON Stylus Office TX620FWD
    9.04
    P
    S
    F
But no TX800FW. Now that in itself isn't terribly unusual, because often, e.g. the inclusion of any TX__ FW model will generically cover them all. Surely Apple haven't intentionally wiped a current printer off the face of the Mac OS earth?
Any suggestions (other than buying a new printer) as to what a solution might be?

Thanks Pahu - your tip sent me off to search in the right direction. It turned out that for some inexplicable reason, the computer name in the SHARING pref had been erased and all that existed was a blank field. Editing the field and reinserting the computername solved the problem.
It's a pity there isn't an obvious Apple support document addressing this issue - I searched pretty thoroughly before posting this morning.
Your information re Epson supplying the drivers to Apple is, as far as I know anyway, absolutely correct. But have you ever tried to get Epson to admit to that? Certainly Epson's support desk that services Australia and NZ won't. They doggedly insist that Epson drivers for Apple's OS are nothing to do with them these days. Twice today they've taken that line with me.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Epson print drivers - should there be difference results with OSX and XP

Since switching to a Mac a couple of years ago, the photo print output from my venerable Epson Stylus Photo RX700 seems to have become poor, with a slight greenish hue to the photos and a lack of colour crispness. I swapped the printer back to my even more venerable Dell XP laptop and the photo print quality is definitely better than with the Mac. I have installed all the printer updates as they occur in the App Store after selecting "Software Update". Even though the printer driver is obtained via "Software Update", I understand that it originates from Epson, or does it? BTW, for my model of Epson, the only way to install the print driver is via this route. Should the two drivers (OSX and Windows) result in a different quality of output? The rather large number of posts in this forum regarding Epson drivers does suggest an inherent issue but I am reluctant to buy a new printer as I have a stock of cartridges for my Epson model and they cost a small fortune.

I haven't observed the large number of posts?
I have three Epsons of that era, and the drivers seem to work OK for me.
I suggest, for troubleshooting, you install the alternate drivers "Gutenprint" and re-add the printer. You might find you like it, too, because of all the color control it gives you.

  • New Epson printer drivers for OS X 10.6.1

Apple posted new drivers for SL 10.6.1, has anyone tried them yet to see if they help with SP2200 printing issues?
    Download link here

    True.
Here's the process I went through to check out results from the Gutenprint driver on my system (SR Macbook 10.6.1).
    1) LR 2.4, Epson driver: I made a print with the old Epson driver, color managed by printer (you'll see why later), settings appropriate for Premium Glossy paper (what I printed on). RESULT - the icky green, contrasty image others have reported
    2) Updated LR to 2.5, Epson driver, everything else the same. RESULT: slightly warmer image but still icky green/contrasty
    3) Updated driver to Apple supplied Gutenprint linked to in my OP. Configured driver settings to appropriate to Premium Glossy paper. RESULT: very acceptable result, with further tweaking I could get it dead on.
Note that the settings in the printer's dialog box with Gutenprint are quite different than the Epson driver. There is NO ability to turn off color management there. Click the Layout pull-down menu and choose "Printer Features" to make settings appropriate to your paper and then save them as a preset.

  • FIX for EPSON Print CD V2.02 - EPSON Stylus Photo R200 - MAC OS 10.5.9

I thought I'd post this ridiculously long info sheet on what finally got my R200 to work with EPSON Print CD and 10.5.8 just in case it might help someone else BEFORE they spend days searching for a solution.
Check the printer driver information in System Preferences, Print & Fax. If it says anything other than EPSON SP R200 Series, you’ve likely located the problem. My system showed the Gutenprint v5.1.3 and /or CUPS/+GIMP... I originally replaced the Gutenprint driver file with the CUPS... file thinking this would solve the Gutenprint driver problem. But, as I continued to look into what was going on, I think I found out that both driver files are actually considered Gutenprint driver files.
    1. Select the hard drive where the operating system is located.
    2. Select Library/Printers.
    3. Select the Epson folder and delete it and then Empty Trash to make sure it’s gone.
    4. Select Library/Preferences.
    5. Select the Epson folder and delete any files that are there.
(Steps 4 & 5 might not be necessary, but I’m listing everything that I did.)
    6. In System Preferences, select Printers and Fax. Control click in listing area and select Reset Printers.
    7. Load the Leopard Installation CD and select Optional Installation.
    8. Select Printers and select Epson. This will reload the printer drivers for all the EPSON printers that are included on the install CD.
    9. Go back to the System Preferences, Printers and Fax window. Click on the + sign to add a printer.
    10. There will likely be a listing with Printer Name as EPSON Stylus Photo R200, Kind as USB.
    11. Click on an arrow in the Print Using: box and select EPSON SP R200 Series. The printer icon changed dramatically at this point, with a rainbow of colors on the document shown coming out of the printer.
Note: **Working within the Print & Fax app seems to be key to getting the settings corrected.** Someone else pointed out that they also found this necessary. However, I couldn’t get the proper “Print Using:” option to appear until I cleaned out the Library/Printers/Epson folder, “Reset Printers”, and reloaded the EPSON printer drivers from the Leopard installation CD.
I had previously done the “Reset Printers” and reloaded the printer files, but as was advised against in the post I mentioned, I selected the “More Printers” option. That’s where I found the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 listed with the CUPS+Gimp ... and the Gutenprint driver listing options. Selecting what appeared to be the Gutenprint alternate printer driver didn’t help at all. I’m not sure if the EPSON SP R200 driver file was missing from the original listing of printer drivers or if I just missed it. I certainly would have looked for it if I had known it was the one that’s needed.
    12. Open the EPSON Print CD V2.02 app. Although I had already installed the Easy Print update, I got a message saying that the application needed the update to work. So, I reinstalled the Easy Print update.
    13. After reinstalling the Easy Print update, I reselected Update Printer Information. Much to my amazement, I got a message and a progress indicator showing the Printer Information was being updated to reflect the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 printer.
    14. When the Update Printer Information process had completed, I clicked on Print and suddenly found that I was able to choose Select Printer and pick the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 and CD/DVD wondrously appeared in the Media Type.
After this point, all the other instructions that are provided from EPSON seemed to work just fine.
Hopefully, there’s enough information in here somewhere that people with other operating systems and printers might at least be able to get a clue . . .

I dug around on the Epson site and found this which seemed to address the exact problem so they obviously know about it. Unfortunately even these rather drastic steps failed to solve the issue for me.

  • Where do I download the Epson Printer Utility?

I recently purchased a 24" iMac. Previous to that I had a PowerPC PowerBook. I used Migration Mgr. to port all of my files from my external HD back to my new iMac. Somehow, in all of that, my Epson Printer Utility vanished. It is not to be found anywhere on the external HD. I have no idea.
Yesterday, I downloaded the new Intel Epson printer drivers form Apple. My Epson R2400 now prints as it should. However, my colors are off which tells me that my ink levels are low. But without the printer utility, I have no idea cartridges need replacing.
I have searched without any success for Epson's Printer Utility. If anyone knows of a source for this I would be very grateful for the link.
    Thanks,
    Phillip Anthony

    John,
After reading your post I didn't know whether to scream or cry. I think you just solved this mystery. Not in a good way mind you, but at least I now understand these issues a lot better.
To back up a bit: I did find a link for Epson drivers for my printer a few days back which I downloaded. And it is indeed the Gutenprint driver. This then explains how and why I spent all of today ******* in the wind trying to figure out why I could not -
    1. Get my existing Epson Printer Utility to launch to check my low ink cartridge levels and;
    2. Get my Epson Printer Utility 4 to launch.
All of these issues were due to the fact that I was using the Gutenprint Epson driver. Just great. Guess I will have to use my old PowerBook to print out my business cards. I am sure there will be other obstacles ahead with this issue. IMO, all of this is beyond stupid. There must be some other way to check my ink levels.
Anyway, because of your post, I now understand how all of this came about. Thank you for your very informative post.

  • Epson Printing with Tiger 10.4.11

Thought I'd enlist the help of the "heavy hitters" of this forum...
You may know of this problem, but I just became aware of it. Upon reactivating my trusty Epson Stylus Color 1160 printer this week (and a long while since upgrading from Panther), I discovered that the Epson printer drivers no longer work, nor does the Epson Print Utility (which is supposed to be used for alignment, head cleaning and nozzle test).
It means that, because I'm running a PowerPC machine, I can no longer print my valuable archives of large scale high resolution Southwest photos... which I have optimized for certain ICC Color Profiles in ColorSync.
Epson tells me they're no longer supporting the software for the 1160 and they refuse to help, other than to refer me to use the GIMP Print drivers that shipped with OS X 10.4.11.
No offense to Apple or SourceForge (who make these drivers), but this solution is laughable. First of all, I can't find any ColorSync facility built into the GIMP interface in Tiger; and, secondly, the print image size in the GIMP drivers seems to be seriously bolloxed (as my 13" x 19" test printout printed at 8-1/2" x 11" EXCEPT for a 3/8" band in the middle that was actually 13" x 19").
Yes, I have downloaded, but not yet installed the most recent GIMP drivers ("GutenPrint") from sourceforge, but have to admit I don't have the confidence to apply them...
Please let me know any thoughts and recommendations... Thanks!

BDAqua, thanks for your kind and generous response.
1.) "Since it's a Dual Boot, can you use the OS9 drivers?"
Beats me... I print from Photoshop 7. I can't remember if the program runs under OS 9; nor do I know if running Photoshop under Tiger would let me select an OS 9 printer driver, in lieu of a Tiger driver.
2.) "Does this old OSX driver work?"
It's the same one I had installed under Panther (and the one Epson is still offering), but it doesn't show up at print time.
    3.) "Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4... "
Not sure if this is the ticket -- I surmise the installation of Tiger installs the GIMP drivers, in precedence to the Epson (1.2Ba) driver -- or at least somehow the Tiger print routine won't invoke the old Epson Driver (which I never uninstalled).
4.) " ...I wouldn't be surprised that you could use a later Epson Driver and/or habd edit the PPD to the correct dimensions."
Wow. I assume such editing would exceed my skills (and I'm not familiar with the term "habd"). Are there instructions, somewhere?
5.) "If it uses 4 inks perhaps the Epson WorkForce 1100 Wide-format Printer driver would work?"
A creative thought. I've never looked into the structure of PPDs (or drivers), and have been assuming that either a.) the literal printer name would govern invocation of the code, or b.) Epson might have told me if another set of drivers and utilities might work, or c.) if they abandoned updating their 1160 software for Tiger and PowerPC, they well might have thrown the rest of their printers overboard, as well. I'll try to look into this...
Why can't life be simple, the way it used to be... *:=)
After a series of e-mail love letters back and forth between myself and the company, today I asked Customer Relations for the address of the CEO in Japan, so I could ship my boat anchor back to him, personally.
    Appreciate your help.

  • Snow Leopard Updated Epson Printer Driver for Epson R800 - poor colour !

I just installed through software update the latest epson printer drivers and, then, deleted the Epson R800 from my printer list and added it back in (with the new printer driver). I did find a slightly different printer dialog box and found the setting of "presets" worked now (it did not previously).
However, when I printed out of Adobe Lightroom 2.6, using a custom paper profile and no colour management, that the print was faded, the colours were washed out. The result was unacceptable. After a few attempts, I looked in the Library folder, printers, epson and found two folders labeled, "inkjet printer" and "inkjet printer2". I determined that "inkjetprinter2" was the new folder and deleted it and deleted/added in my Epson r800 (using "inkjetprinter" folder. The resulting print was perfect.
So, my conclusion is that the new driver is not functioning as it should and I would warn users to be prepared for problems. Am I missing something here? Could I have done the updating of the printer driver and printer differently?

You may need to recalibrate you monitor color settings.
One of the things that changed from 10.5 to 10.6 was gamma; if you are using calibration from 10.5 or earlier, the gamma change will throw off print colors.
Personally, on my last 2 epson printers (R300, RX685), I've configured to let the printer color manage, and used the Vivid setting.
Have not had any off colors, etc.
