Epson printer issues on Windows machines through Mac Mini Leopard

Trying to print on an Epson CX7800 printer attached via USB to new Mac Mini. Works PERFECTLY when printing natively on the Mac....BUT, after using Bonjour to access on any Windows machine, it installs a "generic PS" driver. It then takes FOREVER to print. Turns out the driver installed on each Windows machine is an HP LASERJET driver. And each time I try to install an actual Epson driver on the Windows machines, NO PRINTING occurs. Anyone know what the deal is? Why is Bonjour loading an HP LASERJET driver for an Epson inkjet? And even though it will print, it is TOO SLOW, making it practically unusable. Thanks....

The problem of the machines connecting seems to have solved itself today - with one small tweak to the setup.
I inserted an underscore (_) instead of spaces into the Mac Server name, and although the Windows 7 machines still can't see the server they can now connect using SMB.
I can't believe something so small kept me so flummoxed for so long....

  • File and Printer sharing on Windows 7 Through Group Policy

    Hi,
I was wondering how to enable File and Printer sharing on Windows 7 Through Group Policy. I have enabled the policy called: Allow inbound file and printer sharing exception.
But when I go to advanced sharing settings, it's still turned off.
Windows Server 2003 AD Domain, and I'm using the Group Policy Manager from my Windows 7 machine to edit the policy.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, there is no Group Policy setting for enabling and disabling File and Printer sharing. To do this, you may need to write a script and you can go to our Scripting Forum for help.
In addition, I would like to share the following with you:
Enable or Disable File Sharing for a User or Group by Using Group Policy
Network and Sharing Center Group Policy Settings
    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Trying to install Windows 7 on Mac Mini Mid2011

Am trying to install Windows 7 on Mac Mini (Mid 2011) OS X Mountian Lion (10.8.2) - 2.3GHz/i5/4GB/500GB with external optical drive attached. Using Windows 7 Ultimate (on USB Flash Drive) and Windows Support Software (on separate USB Flash Drive), as the external optical drive is not recognized when Boot Camp restarts to begin installation process. Here are some issues I am having:
    Going through BCA, when selecting the new partition to install on (Disk 0 Partition 4 BOOTCAMP), the warning of "cannot be installed...", so I select  Drive Options (advanced)/Format. Drive is reformatted to the NTSF, but loses the BOOTCAMP name. (Reformats to UNTITLED);
Installation of Windows 7 proceeds, until after its third restart and the color bar with the light burst at its center appears at the bottom of the screen with messages stating "Preparing....". The computer then reboots and starts this endless boot loop.
As it never gets to the part where the Windows Support Software is engaged, can I have both the Windows 7 Ultimate installation and the WSS on the same USB?
I have been researching this issue, but with no difinitive solutions (other than snarky "You obviously didn't read the prior post for this issue..." & "Don't people READ previous posts?" responses.), other than one rude reply saying this was a known issues and there is a fix/driver for it, but no reference as to where this fix resides.
Please if anyone has a solution, I would be very grateful for serious and considerate answers. If you feel the need to be rude/snarky/downright unhelpful, don't reply. This is a community help page, not your venting page.
Thank you in advance for all serious replies.

Right now I have 6 different systems installed. Windows XP, 7, and 8 plus Linux Mint, Commodore, and OS X Snow Leopard (for old times sake), all running on Mountain Lion.
I recommend reading the user manual as it greatly helps getting through the steps, however an intuitive person should pick it up fairly easily.
Thanks to BobTheFisherman for the link.
There are other ways to get Windows on a Mac but I'm a big fan of open-source software.
Give it a try. You might like it or it may not be your cup of tea.

It is standard Mountain Lion error due to the networking ability which is comparable to wet string. (actually that was lion.. it dried out some with Mountain Lion.. higher in the hills perhaps!!)

But many people are suffering the same issue..
And the above is even a little out of date.. you might need to do a reset to the TC.

  • How to install windows on 2011 mac mini

how do I install windows 7 onto mac mini? I have read people say to copy windows onto a flashdrive.  Then install from that.  Question is do I use my iMac to copy windows install DVD to flashdrive, then plug flashdrive into my mac mini and finish install with bootcamp?

If you want, instead of using a USB drive with the Windows installer (and as you have Windows in a DVD and not in a ISO file), I recommend you to buy an external optical drive to use it to install Windows on the Mac mini. Any external optical drive will work.

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much free RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Epson RX600 printing issue:  USB -  Time Machine

Here is the setup: Epson RX600 connected to USB port on Time Machine, time machine to cable modem. Network also contains an Airport Express to extend network throughout house. All devices have the latest firmware and latest drivers from Apple. All Macs can access the internet, use time machine functions and can print. All is ok in Mac land.
Included in the house are several Windows machines. The WINXP machines have the latest Epson drivers loaded, and had the printers added through Bonjour. All WINXP Machines have internet access and can print properly.
Now the rub: A Windows Vista machine is having problems printing correctly. The print out will start properly but fail near the end of the print by not printing correctly the last few lines. The printer will then try to re-print the error part and a large stream of paper coming out of the printer with garbage being printed. I believe this started recently with an update from Microsoft, one of those automated updates... If I plug the printer directly into the Vista machine, the printing is fine all the way through, no issues. Plug the printer back into the TM, and back to a bad print.
Could this be an incompatibility between Bonjour and a Vista Patch??? I've searched and did not find any related questions. I've tried re-loading the printer under Vista several times, but no joy...
Anyone else having this issue or any advice?
    Thanks,
    Marc

So here is what happened. I bought a new powered hub, a new external drive and a new keyboard. Installed them and sat back very smug assuming that my problems were solved. Later the same day, exactly the same issue occurred again. Doh! Time Machine drive quit unexpectedly with an error message saying it had been ejected incorrectly and at the same time, the keyboard stopped functioning! Doh!
So an hour and a half with an Apple Senior Tech Support guy at £35 for a single incident support call (all my Macs have had Apple Care Extended Support contracts but of course the Mac Pro is just 7 months out of this!) and it seems like we may have solved it - although I still need to watch for a reoccurrence. So here is what I did.
When trouble shooting the issue myself I, of course, reset the SMC by unplugging everything including the power cord and then plugging everything back in. However, we did this again but this time the Tech guy told me to hold in the power button for 5 seconds after everything - including the power cord - was disconnected. Apparently this ensures that all the electricity is dumped from the boards inside the Mac and ensures that the SMC will have been fully reset.
I won't bore you with how I know that this made a difference but trust me it did.
Lesson learned. Hope it helps someone else.

  • Can't find printer shared on Windows machine

I don't know how to connect my MacBook Pro to a printer shared by a Windows machine on my network. I have the Windows path to the printer but I don't know how to get Leopard to see the printer. (I tried the Windows tab in the Print and Fax control panel.) Can someone please tell me what is going on?

Okay, some things you need to confirm for me.
What is the workgroup name of the computer sharing the printer?
What is the ip address and subnet mask of the computer sharing the printer?
What is your Mac's ip address and subnet mask?
If your Mac and the PC have the same subnet (usually the first three numbers of the ip address) and the workgroup name is the same, then you should be able to see the share. If not, there is a manual method of connecting to a Windows share.
What you need to do is customise the add printer browser. After selecting to add a printer, control-click next to the More Printers icon to see a menu. Choose Customize Toolbar. Move the Advanced icon to the toolbar. Now click the Advanced icon to see a new menu. Change the top menu to Windows Printing. In the field after smb://, you can enter the computer name or ip address of the sharing computer, followed by a / then the printer share name. For example,
    smb://192.168.40.12/Canon
    Note that sometimes you have to also use account information in the queue name, especially when the guest account is disabled. In these cases, the queue name would be entered as follows;
    smb://username:password@computer_name/printer_sharename
Once you enter the queue name you can then select the printer model. For some models of printers, you cannot use the driver supplied by the vendor. So you have to look at using CUPS based drivers such as those provided by Gutenprint.

  • Epson printing issue

This is probably totally unrelated to my new I-mac, but I had to post this question because it is very strange. I just purchased a new dual core intel I-mac and loaded the epson driver for my 14 month old Epson R800. After printing about 4 photo's from I-photo the printer stopped and indicated that it had lost communication with the computer. I turned the printer off and re-booted my I-mac and things seemed to back to normal. But after only 4 of 5 more photo's the same error message appeared. The only problem is that after shutting down my printer for a second time it will not start back up. I have changed power outlets, removed all cables from the I-mac, but all to no avail. Can this new I-mac kill an Epson R800? The printer has given excellent service for 14 months with my old G4.
Anyone with any suggestions please help. Epson via e-mail says I need to take it to a repair center that is 200 miles from where I live. The only place I'm going to take this printer is the trash can if I can't get it running again.
Also I would love to hear what printers any of you might recommend for a replacement.
    Thanks, Bill B.

    Bill,
After digging around a bit more on google after my previous post - I believe our problem may be this - when the internal "waste ink" sponge is full the printer fails to power up and actually gives windows users a "waste sponge is full, see a authorized service center" warning dialog. Note from my previous post my shut-down happened after changing 3 inks one by one which causes an automatic headcleaning routine which generates "waste ink".
Additionally after a certain amount of prints the r800 fails to print and gives windows users the following dialog, "the lifecycle of certain parts in your printer has been exceeded, see an authorized service center"(I paraphrased from memory).
I know this sounds ****-eyed but it is true.
I'll let you know what I find out from my local "authorized service center"

  • Epson printing issues

I'm not sure exactly where this problem lies... OS, Epson or Adobe... but all works properly with Lightroom 3 and 4.  Works with Photoshop CS4 but not CS5, 5.1 and now CS6 beta.
The issue is saved printer settings with any of several late model Epson printers running the latest driver under Mac OS 10.7.3
When a saved setting is created, all settings are saved except for the chosen roll paper option.  Since cut options depend on the specific roll option chosen that setting is not reliable either.  In the apps listed above that don't work, the roll option always reverts to its default (Roll Paper (borderless auto expand) no matter what other option may have been included in the saved settings.  Manually selecting the proper setting right before actually printing works, but the saved settings are not stored.  Options have to be manually selected with EACH print job.  The apps above listed as working recall ALL of the saved settings properly.  I've seen this behavior on several Mac systems with an Epson 7890. 9890. 4900 and 9900 running Epson's latest drivers (8.66 and newer)
I'm posting this in hopes that since Lightroom works just fine... there's something that can be done in Photoshop to achieve the same result.
    Thanks!

Hi Eva and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Unfortuntely, the ink level pane in System Preferences/Printers no longer exists for Epson printer software. Hopefully Epson will update their drivers soon.
I have an Epson CX3200 All In One.. same issue here.
InkLevel might be of help to you.
